COSINE is a dark matter search experiment based on an array of low background NaI(Tl) crystals located at the Yangyang underground laboratory. The assembly of COSINE-100 was completed in the summer ...of 2016 and the detector is currently collecting physics quality data aimed at reproducing the DAMA/LIBRA experiment that reported an annual modulation signal. Stable operation has been achieved and will continue for at least 2 years. Here, we describe the design of COSINE-100, including the shielding arrangement, the configuration of the NaI(Tl) crystal detection elements, the veto systems, and the associated operational systems, and we show the current performance of the experiment.

Background
Frailty has been studied extensively in trauma, but there is minimal research detailing its impact on traumatic brain injury (TBI). We hypothesized that the 11-item modified frailty index ...(mFI-11) would predict complications and discharge outcomes in patients with TBI.
Methods
A retrospective review of our trauma quality improvement program (TQIP) registry was conducted for all patients with TBI. The mFI-11 score was calculated for each patient. Multivariable logistic regression was used to assess the relationship between mFI-11 and cardiovascular, infectious, pulmonary, renal, thromboembolic, and unplanned complications (ie, unplanned intensive care unit ICU admission, intubation, or return to the operating room).
Results
There were 2352 patients with TBI of whom 61.6% (n = 1450) were not frail, 19.3% (n = 454) were mildly frail, and 19.1% (n = 448) were moderately to severely frail. Higher frailty scores were associated with increasing age (P < .0001) and decreasing injury severity score ISS (P = 0.001). Higher frailty scores also correlated with increasing rates of a skilled nursing facility/long-term acute care hospital/rehabilitation discharge (P = .0002). On multivariable logistic regression adjusting for age, Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score, ISS, mechanism, and sex, moderate to severe frailty increased the odds of acute kidney injury (odds ratio OR 2.06, 95% CI 1.07-3.99, P = .03) and any unplanned event (OR 1.6, 95% CI 1.1-2.3, P = .01).
Conclusion
Frailty measured by the mFI-11 is associated with greater rates of discharge to unfavorable locations and increased odds of acute kidney injury and unplanned events among patients with TBI. These findings suggest that frail patients with TBIs require greater vigilance to avoid such unanticipated outcomes.

Analyzing peaks from decays supported only by short-lived isotopes presented a unique challenge due to their limited statistics and overlapping energies, which was overcome by long-term data collection and a time-dependent analysis. A key achievement is the direct measurement of the 0.87 keV light yield, resulting from the cascade following electron capture decay of

Na
from internal contamination. This measurement, previously accessible only indirectly, deepens our understanding of NaI(Tl) scintillator behavior in the region of interest for dark matter searches. This study holds substantial implications for background modeling and the interpretation of dark matter signals in NaI(Tl) experiments.

Organic remains from excavated sites include a wide range of materials, from distinct organisms ('ecofacts') to biomolecules. Biomolecules provide a variety of new research avenues, while ecofacts ...with longer histories of study are now being re-harnessed in unexpected ways. These resources are unlocking research potential, transcending what was previously imagined possible. However, this 'organics revolution' comes with a salutary corollary: our approaches to recovering and curating organics, and making accessible research data, are not developing as quickly as we need. In this paper, we review retention guidelines for institutions in Britain and Ireland, setting this against the backdrop of a 'curation crisis' that is affecting museums throughout Europe, and beyond. We suggest key themes, including the state of existing documentation and considerations of intrinsic and allied research potential, that should be used to open a discussion about the development of more comprehensive and standardised approaches to archiving in the future. Engaging in this conversation is the only way that we can hope to ensure the long-term retention and preservation of organics, while safeguarding associated research data. These changes are needed to ensure future global research collaborations across the academic, curatorial and professional archaeological sectors.

The structure of the repeating unit of the O-antigen polysaccharide from Shigella flexneri provisional serotype 88-893 has been determined. 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy as well as 2D NMR experiments ...were employed to elucidate the structure. The carbohydrate part of the hexasaccharide repeating unit is identical to the previously elucidated structure of the O-polysaccharide from S. flexneri prov. serotype Y394. The O-antigen of S. flexneri prov. serotype 88-893 carries 0.7mol O-acetyl group per repeating unit located at O-2 of the 3-substituted rhamnosyl residue, as identified by H2BC and BS-CT-HMBC NMR experiments. The O-antigen polysaccharide is composed of hexasaccharide repeating units with the following structure: →2)-α-l-Rhap-(1→2)-α-l-Rhap-(1→3)-α-l-Rhap2Ac-(1→3)α-d-Glcp-(1→2)-α-d-Glcp-(1→4)-β-d-GlcpNAc-(1→. Serological studies showed that type antigens for the two provisional serotypes are identical; in addition 88-893 expresses S. flexneri group factor 6 antigen. We propose that provisional serotypes Y394 and 88-893 be designated as two new serotypes 7a and 7b, respectively, in the S. flexneri typing scheme.
