Metropolitan regions/areas are NUTS 3 regions or a combination of NUTS 3 regions which represent all agglomerations of at least 250,000 inhabitants (Eurostat, 2021). Oradea Metropolitan Area (NUTS3ID ...RO111) was established in 9th of May 2005 and has a total number of 251.570 inhabitants. The purpose of the association is to stimulate and support the growth and prosperity of the area, focused on the continuous increase of the quality of life. Besides the economic boost, OMA emerged from the need for space and leisure expressed by the core urbanites and although the periurban area is teeming with valuable cultural resources, the latter being the focus of the current study, they are little known by many of the Oradea residents. In this purpose the cultural attractions of the rural OMA were inventoried, analysed and stored in an online open-access database so that tourists can enjoy them and entrepreneurs in tourism can use them as focal points for further tourist infrastructure development. The analysis highlighted the OMA periurban area with the highest cultural attractions’ potential based on the National Methodology regarding the evaluation of the tourist potential in the basic administrative-territorial units.

The current study is meant to be a contribution to the promotion and development of an important geographical area for the municipality of Oradea, namely the rural proximity area that is part of the ...Oradea Metropolitan Area (OMA). The magnitude of the tourism phenomenon, as a sustainable resource could contribute to a functional reconsideration of this space that can bring about an overall territorial development, based on economic competitiveness, sustainable development, social cohesion or the development of new technologies. In this sense, it is not possible to conceive the development of an area from a tourist viewpoint without the existence of a suitable infrastructure (tourist, technical, transport), because it can influence, depending on the endowment degree and updated technology, the volume and structure of the tourist traffic. Thus, the main infrastructure components were identified, quantified and analyzed, each TAU being granted a certain score according to the evaluation methodology, based on which a certain hierarchy and highlighting of the main dysfunctions could be achieved. In conclusion, it was found that the existing tourist and technical infrastructure is satisfactory, but disproportionately distributed, a situation somewhat accountable due of the existence of the two spas, Băile Felix and Băile 1 Mai.

Starting from one of the main objectives of constitution of Oradea Metropolitan Area (O.M.A.) namely to ensure the continuous increase of live quality, the aim of the study is the highlight and ...analysis of high value natural resources, natural reserves and Natura 2000 sites and also to ensure the quality of environmental factors for the touristic use. The importance of protection and conservation of some natural elements also results from the fact that the surface of natural reserves within O.M.A. increases from 6.25% of overall surface of natural reserves of Bihor county, prior the integration in the E.U., to 24.3% after the European integration, after the implementation of Natura 2000 ecological network. One can identify nine Natura 2000 sites within O.M.A., which includes two SPA and seven SCI sites. The analysis of the environmental factors (air, surface and underground waters) shows that the physical and chemical parameters are within the legal range without threatening the communities and the natural resources with touristic potential.

In many regions of Europe (among others in Hungary) agricultural production has been affected by droughts over the past decades. Global Water Partnership (GWP) Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) wanted ...to supported European countries in developing of an early warning system, which consists of monitoring, prediction and combine national drought policies. In order to use risk assessment – in which prevention of drought is emphasized - available water content calculation of watershed should be prepared for drought impacted areas. The aim of our study was to create a high-resolution, trans - border database, which takes into account the most important water regime properties of soils and it can be uniformly used in other countries of Tisza River Basin. Based on traditional soil maps, a soil database was created, where soil water content - in 2m layer depth of soil - can be estimated for different horizons and for different soil types. First of all, digital soil maps of different countries were adjusted to WRB (World Reference Base for Soil Resources), and calculation mapping was worked out for the total area of the Tisza River Basin. After allocations of the soil layers, physical limit values of soils were estimated by using pedo-transfer functions. Water storage capacity and available water content were determined by the depth of the impermeable layer. Finally, spatial queries were carried out in the Tisza River Basin and in units of administration. These data were integrated into a geographic information system, in which the data clearly showed that the impact of drought was more severe in extreme water management soils. In case of large-scale long-term droughts, local differences decreased the reliability of the calculations to a lesser degree. However, with further methodological development, the effect of these local differences can be reduced.
The joint German - Hungarian - Polish - Romanian Project EUBILD-UNAKLIM 2016-1-DE02-KA204-003254 in the ERASMUS + Scheme KA2 (Strategic Partnerships) designs an international adult-learning ...furthering education course. It took place in the participating countries Germany, Hungary, Poland and Romania. Environmental and cross-sector topics were addressed. A “green” job search and a questionnaire among employers, financing and educational institutions and NGOs was performed across the partner countries in 2017. The objectives were to find differences in employers’ opinions on staff skills and the training topics provided by the furthering education organizations. In case differences were found, the course could close these gaps and will be adapted to the employers’ needs, bringing more course participants into employment. Statistical evaluation compared countries, institution types, employers and furthering educationand financing institutions. The results were visualized in pie charts, histograms, and - where applicable - trend lines. Preliminary results show clear ranking of the new “green” job categories with differences in countries and institutions. The questionnaire results show differences in topic selection between employers and furthering education bodies. The results form the base for the course curriculum design closing the gaps between employers’ expectations for “green” job topics and existing training curricula.
Metropolitan areas provide many opportunities to spend quality outdoor leisure time as well as to discover many cultural attractions. Sprawl occurs in Romania quite rapidly, encouraged by the ...construction of ring roads around many cities and their expansion into metropolitan areas. The current paper aims to identify metropolitan tourism models based on which tourist flows can be sustainably reoriented within rural Oradea Metropolitan Area (OMA) given their the tourist potential level (i.e., very low, low, average, high). The tourist potential was scaled based on the Methodology for the Analysis of a Territory’s Tourist Potential, which stands as a law published in the Official Monitor of the 14th of June 2016. The study indicates that most tourist activity develops in the OMA southern part in Sânmartin commune, thus unsustainably capturing all tourist flows of the rural OMA. Natural and man-made tourist attractions’ territorial concentrations were emphasized in the communes from the south and northern OMA, but there are major territorial dysfunctions in terms of technical endowment and tourist infrastructure supply. The three emerged models refer to the medical–recreational and eco–residential wellness network, discovery eco-holiday, and co-visit and marginal community.
Over the past 15 years, the periurban area in the proximity of Oradea has been accredited as a place of great attraction for the urbanites eager to move to the countryside, taking advantage of the ...natural resources, numerically generous and possessing an ecological quality. On such a background, these urbanites or tourists have come into contact and continue to discover these natural resources from the point of view of their new qualities, namely people motivated to do thematic tourism. This study seeks to know in detail the potential of the 11 communes and their related villages in the Oradea Metropolitan Area (OMA) and what they provide for weekend-type activities or forms of tourism based on discovery and leisure. The researched area has various natural resources, but diversity is configured according to the environment and morpho-hydrography specific for the hilly, plain and hilly-plain contact area relief. The inventory of local resources (8 categories) prone to nature-based tourism is dominated by protected areas, rivers and lakes for fishing, deciduous forests and associated hay fields as well as the hilly relief in the eastern part of the area. The expression of the attractiveness of local nature for leisure tourism is given by the attractiveness index, which at the OMA level is 87.47 points, with an encouraging maximum of 11.67 points (out of a maximum of 25 points). The detail of the distribution and the natural resources attraction weight can be found in the four thematic maps.

The current study aims to make an analysis of the human and environmental capital of Oradea Hills, notably the locations where the household independent cellars are found. For the human capital more ...indicators were analyzed such as the active and inactive population as well as a focused analysis of the population age category of Episcopia Bihor neighborhood where these household independent cellars prevail. For the environmental capital the land tenure of Oradea Hills was considered and analyzed through the perspective of forests, hayfields and pastures, arable land, built-up area, lithology and slope exposure. Thus more theme maps resulted (i.e. geological map, slope exposure map) from this study carried out through the ArcGis program meant to further help the interested investors to capitalize these storage cellars.
