The generation of hole array architectures with, for example, square or triangular patterns (see Figure) is achieved by controlling the spatial definition of the indentation sites for hole ...development in anodic porous alumina. The technique has potential for the fabrication of two‐dimensional photonic crystals, or carbon nanotubes with triangular or square cross section.

Background & Aims: Although epidemiological studies have indicated that
Helicobacter pylori infection plays a crucial role in gastric carcinogenesis in humans, there is no direct proof that
H. pylori ...is actually associated with gastric carcinogenesis. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the relationship between
H. pylori infection and gastric carcinogenesis using an animal model of long-term
H. pylori infection.
Methods: Mongolian gerbils were orally inoculated with
H. pylori, and the sequential morphological changes in the stomach were examined for up to 62 weeks.
Results:
H. pylori was constantly detected in all infected animals throughout the study. At the 26th week, severe active chronic gastritis, ulcers, and intestinal metaplasia could be observed in infected animals. By the end of the study, adenocarcinoma had developed in the pyloric region of 37% of the infected animals. All tumors consisted of well-differentiated intestinal-type epithelium, and their development seemed to be closely related to intestinal metaplasia.
Conclusions: We have successfully demonstrated that long-term infection with
H. pylori induces adenocarcinoma in Mongolian gerbils. The observations are thus highly suggestive of the involvement of
H. pylori infection in gastric carcinogenesis in humans.

Belle II is a new-generation B-factory experiment, dedicated to exploring new physics beyond the standard model of elementary particles in the flavor sector. Belle II started data-taking in April ...2018, using a synchronous data acquisition (DAQ) system based on pipelined trigger flow control. The Belle II DAQ system is designed to handle a 30-kHz trigger rate with approximately 1% of dead time, under the assumption of a raw event size of 1 MB. The DAQ system is reliable, and the overall data-taking efficiency reached 84.2% during the run period of January 2020-June 2020. The current readout system cannot be operated in the terms of ten years from the viewpoint of DAQ maintainability; meanwhile, the readout system is obstructing high-speed data transmission. A solution involving a peripheral component interconnect (PCI)-express-based readout module with high data throughput of up to 100 Gb/s was adopted to upgrade the Belle II DAQ system. We particularly focused on the design of firmware and software based on this new generation of readout board, called PCIe40, with an Altera Arria 10 field-programmable gate array chip. The 48-Gb transceiver (GBT) serial links, PCI-express hard IP-based direct memory access (DMA) architecture, interface of timing and trigger distribution system, and slow control system were designed to integrate with the current Belle II DAQ system. This article describes the performances accomplished during the data readout and slow control tests conducted using a test bench and a demonstration performed using on-site front-end electronics, specifically involving Belle II TOP and KLM subdetectors.
Abstract The pepper-pot emittance monitor is a device that can measure the phase space distribution of the beam rapidly. We have introduced one at the ion source test stand of Gunma University. We ...confirmed that the phase space distribution can be measured accurately comparing to the existing wire-slit type emittance monitor.
Background
Higher baseline uric acid (UA) was significantly associated with higher atrial fibrillation (AF) incidence in Japanese women. However, no prospective study is evident in the association ...between UA and incident AF in Japanese urban residents.
Methods
A total of 6863 participants (aged 30‐79 years; 47% men) without prior AF were followed for 13.9 years on average in the Suita Study. According to the UA categories, cox proportional hazards regression models were used to estimating the Hazard Ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for incident AF.
Results
During 95178 person‐years of follow‐up, we observed 311 cases of incident AF (204 cases in men and 107 cases in women). Compared to the subjects with UA of 4.0‐4.9 mg/dL, multivariable‐adjusted HR (95% CIs) of incident AF was 1.50 (1.01‐2.25) (P = .047) for the subjects with UA ≥7.0 mg/dL.
Conclusion
High UA was associated with an increased risk for incident AF in the Japanese population.

The Japanese Catheter Ablation (J‐AB) registry, started in August 2017, is a voluntary, nationwide, multicenter, prospective, observational registry, performed by the Japanese Heart Rhythm Society ...(JHRS) in collaboration with the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center using a Research Electronic Data Capture system. The purpose of this registry is to collect the details of target arrhythmias, the ablation procedures, including the type of target arrhythmias, outcomes, and acute complications in real‐world settings. During the year 2020, we have collected a total of 84 591 procedures (mean age of 65.8 years and 66.6% male) from 466 participant hospitals. Detailed data were shown in Figures and Tables.

Carboxymethylated chitin, gellan gum, and curdlan gels were soaked in a simulated body fluid (SBF) having ion concentrations nearly equal to those of human blood plasma. Some of the gels had been ...soaked in a saturated Ca(OH)
2 solution, while others had not. The carboxymethylated chitin and gellan gum gels have carboxyl groups, while the curdlan gel has hydroxyl groups. None of the gels formed apatite on their surfaces in the SBF when they had not been subjected to the Ca(OH)
2 treatment, whereas the carboxymethylated chitin and gellan gum gels formed apatite on their surfaces when they had been subjected to the Ca(OH)
2 treatment. The curdlan gel did not form an apatite deposit even after the Ca(OH)
2 treatment. Apatite formation on the carboxymethylated chitin and gellan gum gels was attributed to the catalytic effect of their carboxyl groups for apatite nucleation, and acceleration of apatite nucleation from released Ca
2+ ions. This result provides a guiding principle for obtaining apatite-organic polymer fiber composites. This composite is expected to have an analogous structure to that of natural bone.

Along with the incremental cases of cardiac implantable electronic devices implantation or upgrade, the lead‐related complications are also in rise year after year. The most common and serious ...lead‐related complication is infection that needs a transvenous lead extraction (TLE) as the first‐line therapy. TLE is also performed for abandoned leads in case of lead failure or device upgrade, and for lead‐related trouble such as pain, vessel stenosis or occlusion, too many leads, tricuspid valve regurgitation, and difficulty of radiation therapy. This registration has been performed by the Japanese Heart Rhythm Society and started in July 2018. The first reported data of the Japanese Lead Extraction (J‐LEX) from July 2018 to December 2019 were underestimated since the number of patients and hospitals increased gradually because of the approval process of each hospital’s IRB. The TLE procedure was attempted to 1253 leads among 661 patients. Complete removal was achieved in 96.7% of the target leads and the clinical success was obtained in 98.9% of the patients. Perioperative complications were observed in 4.1% of the patients. The annual J‐LEX report reflects a real‐world TLE medicine in Japan and demonstrates that the clinical outcome is similar to former reports from high‐volume centers in North America and European countries.
