The usefulness of pharmacokinetic parameters for glioma grading has been reported based on the perfusion data from parts of entire-tumor volumes. However, the perfusion values may not reflect the ...entire-tumor characteristics. Our aim was to investigate the feasibility of glioma grading by using histogram analyses of pharmacokinetic parameters including the volume transfer constant, extravascular extracellular space volume per unit volume of tissue, and blood plasma volume per unit volume of tissue from T1-weighted dynamic contrast-enhanced perfusion MR imaging.
Twenty-eight patients (14 men, 14 women; mean age, 49.75 years; age range, 25-72 years) with histopathologically confirmed gliomas (World Health Organization grade II, n = 7; grade III, n = 8; grade IV, n = 13) were examined before surgery or biopsy with conventional MR imaging and T1-weighted dynamic contrast-enhanced perfusion MR imaging at 3T. Volume transfer constant, extravascular extracellular space volume per unit volume of tissue, and blood plasma volume per unit volume of tissue were calculated from the entire-tumor volume. Histogram analyses from these parameters were correlated with glioma grades. The parameters with the best percentile from cumulative histograms were identified by analysis of the area under the curve of the receiver operating characteristic analysis and were compared by using multivariable stepwise logistic regression analysis for distinguishing high- from low-grade gliomas.
All parametric values increased with increasing glioma grade. There were significant differences among the 3 grades in all parameters (P < .01). For the differentiation of high- and low-grade gliomas, the highest area under the curve values were found at the 98th percentile of the volume transfer constant (area under the curve, 0.912; cutoff value, 0.277), the 90th percentile of extravascular extracellular space volume per unit volume of tissue (area under the curve, 0.939; cutoff value, 19.70), and the 84th percentile of blood plasma volume per unit volume of tissue (area under the curve, 0.769; cutoff value, 11.71). The 98th percentile volume transfer constant value was the only variable that could be used to independently differentiate high- and low-grade gliomas in multivariable stepwise logistic regression analysis.
Histogram analysis of pharmacokinetic parameters from whole-tumor volume data can be a useful method for glioma grading. The 98th percentile value of the volume transfer constant was the most significant measure.
•Deep learning networks are applied to stock market analysis and prediction.•A comprehensive analysis with different data representation methods is offered.•Five-minute intraday data from the Korean ...KOSPI stock market is used.•The network applied to residuals of autoregressive model improves prediction.•Covariance estimation for market structure analysis is improved with the network.
We offer a systematic analysis of the use of deep learning networks for stock market analysis and prediction. Its ability to extract features from a large set of raw data without relying on prior knowledge of predictors makes deep learning potentially attractive for stock market prediction at high frequencies. Deep learning algorithms vary considerably in the choice of network structure, activation function, and other model parameters, and their performance is known to depend heavily on the method of data representation. Our study attempts to provides a comprehensive and objective assessment of both the advantages and drawbacks of deep learning algorithms for stock market analysis and prediction. Using high-frequency intraday stock returns as input data, we examine the effects of three unsupervised feature extraction methods—principal component analysis, autoencoder, and the restricted Boltzmann machine—on the network’s overall ability to predict future market behavior. Empirical results suggest that deep neural networks can extract additional information from the residuals of the autoregressive model and improve prediction performance; the same cannot be said when the autoregressive model is applied to the residuals of the network. Covariance estimation is also noticeably improved when the predictive network is applied to covariance-based market structure analysis. Our study offers practical insights and potentially useful directions for further investigation into how deep learning networks can be effectively used for stock market analysis and prediction.

Aims
. The relationship between the intrinsic properties of a large meteoroid, that is, mass, density, chemical composition, and flight velocity, and its spectrum are identified.
Methods
. Assuming ...thermochemical equilibrium and inviscid flow and using a quasi-one-dimensional approach, the flow-field and radiative transfer problems are solved from the ablating wall of a meteoroid to the observer on the ground.
Results
. The study discovers that the precursor region immediately ahead of the shock layer absorbs nitrogen and oxygen lines, and thereby modifies the spectrum received by the ground observer. The study leads to a computer code with which the observed spectra and light-curves for Benesov and Sumava meteoroids are numerically and approximately reproduced with the help of a meteoroid fragmentation theory. Luminous efficiency value is obtained as a byproduct.

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a newly developed formulation of phentermine diffuse-controlled release (DCR) in patients with obesity. Methods: This was a randomized, double-blind, ...placebo-controlled trial of 12 weeks of treatment with phentermine DCR 30 mg (n = 37) or placebo (n = 37), administered once daily in patients with obesity with controlled diabetes, hypertension or dyslipidaemia. The efficacy was evaluated by changes in body weight and waist circumference from baseline at 12 weeks and also changes in metabolic parameters, including lipid profiles and blood pressure. Results: The participants in the phentermine DCR group showed significant reductions in body weight (-8.1 ± 3.9 vs. -1.7 ± 2.9 kg, p < 0.001) and waist circumference (7.2 ± 0.5 vs. 2.1 ± 0.6 cm, p < 0.001) compared with those in the placebo group. Weight reductions of 5% or greater from the baseline (95.8 vs. 20.8%, p < 0.001) and 10% or more (62.5 vs. 4.7%, p < 0.001) were achieved in the DCR phentermine group and placebo group, respectively. Total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels were significantly improved in the phentermine DCR group. However, there were no significant differences in systolic and diastolic blood pressure between the groups. Dry mouth and insomnia were the most common adverse events, but these were mild to moderate and transient. Conclusions: Short-term phentermine DCR treatment resulted in significant reduction in weight and improvement of metabolic parameters, including waist circumference and some lipid profiles, without clinically severe adverse events. Further study is needed to show long-term efficacy and safety of phentermine DCR in Korean patients with obesity.

Aims
For the effective production of 146S particles, which determines foot‐and‐mouth disease (FMD) vaccine efficacy, we aimed to identify the optimal medium that is easy‐to‐use, productive and ...economically affordable for the large‐scale production of FMD vaccine.
Methods and Results
Nine combinations of cell growth media and replacement media were tested for virus propagation. Apart from the replacement strategy, we tested a simple addition strategy involving the addition of 30% v/v of fresh medium to the total spent medium using the Cellvento BHK‐200 (Vento). Unlike other tested media that produced poor yields of 146S particles when the spent media were not eliminated, Vento exhibited high productivity with the 30% addition strategy.
Conclusions
Considering its lower price and media consumption compared to those of other media that require media replacement, the 30% addition strategy of Vento is highly effective. Furthermore, owing to its simple application strategy, it makes the scale‐up process easy and helps in saving the time and labour involved in spent media removal.
Significance and Impact of the Study
Through the first comparative assessment of commercial media for the 146S particle recovery, this study suggests the best practical medium for the industrial‐scale production of FMD vaccines.

Abstract Objectives The pathogenesis of late preterm birth remains elusive for the mechanisms of disease responsible. Placental examination can often provide important clues for the pathogenesis of ...pregnancy complications. This study was conducted to determine placental pathologic findings according to the gestational age and the clinical circumstances of preterm birth. Study design Placental pathologic findings and obstetrical and neonatal outcomes were reviewed in a consecutive preterm birth cohort from a single tertiary center ( N = 1206). Placentas of term births ( N = 300) were used as normal controls. Results Acute chorioamnionitis (22.7% vs. 16.7%), maternal vascular underperfusion (6.4% vs. 0.5%), and chronic chorioamnionitis (20.8% vs. 10.5%) were significantly more frequent in preterm births than in term births ( P < 0.05, for each). Among preterm births, chronic chorioamnionitis was the most common pathology of late preterm birth (gestational age <37 and ≥34 weeks), while acute chorioamnionitis was the most common lesion of extremely preterm birth (gestational age <28 weeks). While the frequency of acute chorioamnionitis decreased with advancing gestation, that of chronic chorioamnionitis increased ( P < 0.001, for each). The upward trend of the frequency of chronic chorioamnionitis was related to advancing gestation in both spontaneous and indicated preterm births ( P < 0.001, for each). Conclusions Chronic chorioamnionitis is a common pathology of late preterm birth. It is suggested that chronic chorioamnionitis, a feature of maternal anti-fetal rejection, is an important etiology of preterm birth, especially of late preterm birth.

There are declines with age in speed of processing, working memory, inhibitory function, and long-term memory, as well as decreases in brain structure size and white matter integrity. In the face of ...these decreases, functional imaging studies have demonstrated, somewhat surprisingly, reliable increases in prefrontal activation. To account for these joint phenomena, we propose the scaffolding theory of aging and cognition (STAC). STAC provides an integrative view of the aging mind, suggesting that pervasive increased frontal activation with age is a marker of an adaptive brain that engages in compensatory scaffolding in response to the challenges posed by declining neural structures and function. Scaffolding is a normal process present across the lifespan that involves use and development of complementary, alternative neural circuits to achieve a particular cognitive goal. Scaffolding is protective of cognitive function in the aging brain, and available evidence suggests that the ability to use this mechanism is strengthened by cognitive engagement, exercise, and low levels of default network engagement.
Foamed and solid polypropylene/carbon fiber (PP–CF) composites containing various CF contents (0–10vol.%) were injection-molded. Foamed composites were achieved using dissolved pressurized nitrogen ...gas. The effects of foaming on the fibers inter-connectivity and orientation, electrical percolation threshold, through-plane electrical conductivity, longitudinal and transversal in-plane conductivities, dielectric permittivity, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) were investigated. Cell growth increased the fibers inter-connectivity by biaxial stretching of the matrix and also changed the fiber orientation. The introduction of foaming reduced the density of the injection-molded samples by 25%, lowered the volume fraction of the percolation threshold from 8.5 to 7vol.% CF, enhanced the through-plane conductivity up to a maximum of six orders of magnitude, increased the dielectric permittivity and resulted in the increase of the specific EMI SE up to 65%. Moreover, the uniformity of in-plane and through-plane conductivities as well as EMI SE along the injection-molded samples was greatly improved by foaming. The relationships between the microstructure and electrical properties were also established. The results reveal that lightweight conductive products with lower fiber content and enhanced electrical and EMI shielding properties can be fabricated with the aid of injection foam molding for applications in electronics, aerospace and automotive industries.

Summary
Incidence of hip fracture increased in Korean populations over age 50 between 2008 and 2012, and the number of fractures was predicted to increase by 1.4 times by 2025. This is important ...information for public health planning.
Introduction
The purposes of this study were to evaluate the trends in the incidence and mortality of hip fracture between 2008 and 2012 and predict the number of hip fractures in Korea through 2025 using nationwide claims data.
Methods
The data managed by the National Health Insurance Service were used to identify the hip fractures in patients aged >50 years between 2008 and 2012. Projections of hip fractures were conducted using the Poisson distribution from 2016 to 2025 in Korea.
Results
The incidence of hip fractures (per 100,000) increased by 14.1 % over the 5 years of the study, by 15.8 % in women and 10.9 % in men; the older age group showed a steep rise and shift in the incidence from 2008 to 2012. The cumulative mortality rates at 1 year after hip fractures were 17.2 % (3575/20,849) in 2008 and 16.0 % (4547/28,426) in 2012. Overall standardized mortality ratios (SMRs) for hip fracture were higher in men (11.93) than in women (11.22) and were higher than those in the general population in all age groups. In 2016, the total number of hip fractures was estimated to increase an overall of 1.4 times by 2025.
Conclusions
The incidence of hip fracture continues to increase, and the related mortality is still high, although it has decreased over time. The socioeconomic burden of hip fracture is expected to increase in Korea along with the increased estimated number of fractures. Nationwide strategies should include attempts to reduce the future socioeconomic burdens of hip fractures.
