The chemokine receptor CCR7 mediates lymphoid dissemination of many cancers, including lymphomas and epithelial carcinomas, thus representing an attractive therapeutic target. Previous results have ...highlighted the potential of the anti-CCR7 monoclonal antibodies to inhibit migration in transwell assays. The present study aimed to evaluate the in vivo therapeutic efficacy of an anti-CCR7 antibody in a xenografted human mantle cell lymphoma model.
NOD/SCID mice were either subcutaneously or intravenously inoculated with Granta-519 cells, a human cell line derived from a leukemic mantle cell lymphoma. The anti-CCR7 mAb treatment (3 × 200 μg) was started on day 2 or 7 to target lymphoma cells in either a peri-implantation or a post-implantation stage, respectively.
The anti-CCR7 therapy significantly delayed the tumor appearance and also reduced the volumes of tumors in the subcutaneous model. Moreover, an increased number of apoptotic tumor cells was detected in mice treated with the anti-CCR7 mAb compared to the untreated animals. In addition, significantly reduced number of Granta-519 cells migrated from subcutaneous tumors to distant lymphoid organs, such as bone marrow and spleen in the anti-CCR7 treated mice. In the intravenous models, the anti-CCR7 mAb drastically increased survival of the mice. Accordingly, dissemination and infiltration of tumor cells in lymphoid and non-lymphoid organs, including lungs and central nervous system, was almost abrogated.
The anti-CCR7 mAb exerts a potent anti-tumor activity and might represent an interesting therapeutic alternative to conventional therapies.

The global shortage of medical and personal protective equipment (PPE) in specialized centers during ...the outbreak demonstrated the need for efficient methods to disinfect and recycle them in times of emergency. We have previously described that high ozone concentrations destroyed viral RNA in an inactivated SARS-CoV-2 strain within a few minutes. However, the efficient ozone dosages for active SARS-CoV-2 are still unknown. The present study aimed to evaluate the systematic effects of ozone exposure on face masks from hospitalized patients infected with SARS-CoV-2. Face masks from COVID-19 patients were collected and treated with a clinical ozone generator at high ozone concentrations in small volumes for short periods. The study focused on SARS-CoV-2 gene detection (assessed by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR)) and on the virus inactivation by in vitro studies. We assessed the effects of different high ozone concentrations and exposure times on decontamination efficiency. We showed that high ozone concentrations (10,000, 2,000, and 4,000 ppm) and short exposure times (10, 10, and 2 minutes, respectively), inactivated both the original strain and the B.1.1.7 strain of SARS-CoV-2 from 24 contaminated face masks from COVID-19 patients. The validation results showed that the best condition for SARS-CoV-2 inactivation was a treatment of 4,000 ppm of ozone for 2 minutes. Further studies are in progress to advance the potential applications of these findings.

The purpose of this study is to determine the differences between the size parameter findings, comparing the results of a muffle during a 12-h sand-drying process with those of a microwave, because ...the effectiveness of sand drying with a microwave has not previously been studied. To achieve the best outcomes and assess any inaccuracies, a technique was established. Several power levels and durations were used in the tests. Furthermore, as the median particle size (D50) affects the porosity of sand, samples from three beaches in the south of Spain with varying sand sizes were used in this study. When drying for at least 5 min, the error findings for D50 are less than 3.5%, which is perfectly acceptable for beach nourishment purposes. Regarding power, 462 watts was the optimal power; a lower power, approximately 300 watts, did not completely dry the material, even after nearly 15 min. Furthermore, errors in the sorting (σ) parameter were negligible. It is essential to implement the following recommendations in microwave drying methods: the use of a light and wide container for the sand, interruptions during drying, and a minimum duration of 5 min.
The current use of photogrammetric systems with RPAS (remotely piloted aircraft systems) for the acquisition of topographic data in every type of coastal area has the benefit of a low risk for the ...personnel involved, good precision, increased productivity, and lower costs. However, their accuracy has not yet been researched in areas with steep terrain. In this paper, we study dune areas with slopes between 20 and 30%. The objective of this work is to examine the influence of the inclination of both the flight and the camera and to compare the results with those obtained using constant-height flights. With the data collected during three field campaigns, a total of 18 cases were studied. Among the results obtained, in the case of the horizontal flights, a vertical error of 0.048 m was detected for a 0° inclination of the camera versus an error of 0.086 m for a 10° inclination, thus an increase in the camera inclination decreased the accuracy by 44%. Moreover, the flight inclination did not lead to a significant reduction in the error. Therefore, as a main conclusion, the planning of horizontal flights as well as the non-tilt of the camera are recommended.
Abstract
Context
There are no data on mortality of acromegaly diagnosed in older individuals.
Objective
This work aimed to compare clinical characteristics, growth hormone–related comorbidities, ...therapeutic approaches, and mortality rate of patients diagnosed before or after 2010 and to assess overall mortality rate compared with the general Spanish population.
Methods
A retrospective evaluation was conducted among Spanish tertiary care centers of 118 patients diagnosed with acromegaly at age 65 or older. Kaplan-Meier curves were constructed to trace survival, and Cox proportional hazard models were used to assess the risk factors associated with mortality. We also compared mortality with that of the Spanish population by using age- and sex-adjusted standardized mortality ratios (SMRs).
Results
No differences were found in first-line treatment or biochemical control, between both periods except for faster biochemical control after 2010. Twenty-nine (24.6%) patients died, without differences between groups, and had a median of follow-up 8.6 years (103, 72.3 months). Overall SMR was 1.02 (95% CI, 0.57-1.54), (0.60; 95% CI, 0.35-1.06) for men and (1.80; 95% CI, 1.07-2.94) for women. The most common cause of death was cardiovascular disease (CVD).
Conclusion
The mortality in patients with acromegaly diagnosed in older individuals was no different between both periods, and there was no overall SMR difference compared with the general Spanish population. However, the SMR was higher in women. As CVD is the leading cause of mortality, it seems advisable to initiate an intense CVD protective treatment as soon as acromegaly is diagnosed, particularly in women, in addition to tight acromegaly control to prevent excess mortality.
The size and great dynamism of coastal systems require faster and more automated mapping methods like the use of a remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). This ...method allows for shorter intervals between surveys. The main problem for surveying using low-altitude digital photogrammetry in beach areas is their visual homogeneity. Obviously, the fewer the homologous points defined by the program, the lower the accuracy. Moreover, some factors influence the error performed in photogrammetric techniques, such as flight height, flight time, percentage of frame overlap (side and forward), and the number of ground control points (GCPs). A total of 72 different cases were conducted varying these factors, and the results were analyzed. Among the conclusions, it should be highlighted that the error for noon flights is almost double that for the early morning flights. Secondly, there is no appreciable difference regarding the side overlap. But, on the other side, RMSE increased to three times (from 0.05 to 0.15 m) when forward overlap decreased from 85% to 70%. Moreover, relative accuracy is 0.05% of the flying height which means a significant increase in error (66%) between flights performed at 60 and 100 m height). Furthermore, the median of the error for noon flights (0.12 m) is almost double that for the early morning flights (0.07 m) because of the higher percentage of grids with data for early flights. Therefore, beach levelings must never be performed at noon when carried out by RPAS. Eventually, a new parameter has been considered: the relationship between the number of GCPs and the surface to be monitored. A minimum value of 7 GCP/Ha should be taken into account when designing a beach leveling campaign using RPAS.

This was a retrospective, multicenter, national study of CP patients diagnosed over the age of 65 years and surgically treated.
From a total of 384 adult CP patients, we selected 53 (13.8%) patients (27 women 50.9%, mean age 72.3 ± 5.1 years range 65-83 years) diagnosed after the age of 65 years. The most common clinical symptoms were visual field defects (71.2%) followed by headache (45.3%). The maximum tumor diameter was 2.9 ± 1.1 cm. In most patients, the tumor was suprasellar (96.2%) and mixed (solid-cystic) (58.5%). The surgical approach most commonly used was transcranial surgery (52.8%), and more than half of the patients (54.7%) underwent subtotal resection (STR). Adamantinomatous CP and papillary CP were present in 51 and 45.1%, respectively, with mixed forms in the remaining. Surgery was accompanied by an improvement in visual field defects and in headaches; however, pituitary hormonal hypofunction increased, mainly at the expense of an increase in the prevalence of diabetes insipidus (DI) (from 3.9 to 69.2%). Near-total resection (NTR) was associated with a higher prevalence of DI compared with subtotal resection (87.5 vs. 53.6%, p = 0.008). Patients were followed for 46.7 ± 40.8 months. The mortality rate was 39.6% with a median survival time of 88 (95% CI: 57-118) months. DI at last visit was associated with a lower survival.
CP diagnosed in the elderly shows a similar distribution by sex and histologic forms than that diagnosed at younger ages. At presentation, visual field alterations and headaches are the main clinical symptoms which improve substantially with surgery. However, surgery, mainly NTR, is accompanied by worsening of pituitary function, especially DI, which seems to be a predictor of mortality in this population.
Context
Some reports suggest that acromegaly in elderly patients has a more benign clinical behavior and could have a better response to first-generation long-acting somatostatin receptor ligands ...(SRL). However, there is no specific therapeutic protocol for this special subgroup of patients.
Objective
This study aimed at identifying predictors of response to SRL in elderly patients.
Design
Multicentric retrospective nationwide study of patients diagnosed with acromegaly at or over the age of 65 years.
Results
One-hundred and eighteen patients (34 men, 84 women, mean age at diagnosis 71.7 ± 5.4 years old) were included. Basal insulin-like growth factor type 1 (IGF-1) above the upper limit of normal (ULN) and growth hormone (GH) levels (mean ± SD) were 2.7 ± 1.4 and 11.0 ± 11.9 ng/ml, respectively. The mean maximal tumor diameter was 12.3 ± 6.4 mm, and up to 68.6% were macroadenoma. Seventy-two out of 118 patients (61.0%) underwent surgery as primary treatment. One-third of patients required first-line medical treatment due to a rejection of surgical treatment or non-suitability because of high surgical risk. After first-line surgery, 45/72 (63.9%) were in disease remission, and 16/34 (46.7%) of those treated with SRL had controlled disease. Patients with basal GH at diagnosis ≤6 ng/ml had lower IGF-1 levels and had smaller tumors, and more patients in this group reached control with SRL (72.7% vs. 33.3%; p < 0.04) OR: 21.3, IC: 95% (2.4–91.1), while male patients had a worse response OR: 0.09, IC 95% (0.01–0.75). The predictive model curve obtained for SRL response showed an AUC of 0.82 CI (0.71–0.94).
Conclusions
The most frequent phenotype in newly diagnosed acromegaly in the elderly includes small adenomas and moderately high IGF-1 levels. GH at diagnosis ≤6 ng/ml and female gender, but not age

In general, weather forecasting has been significantly developed at a large scale and, joined with statistical techniques, is used to predict at a local scale. However, there is no way to propagate ...winds between two nearby locations; this is a spatial transference, for example, for the waves. After studying coastal dunar systems affected by winds, we have proposed a way for the spatial propagation of wind for scales under 10 km. The proposed transference is based on local data, and it is developed in an easy and accurate way by different regression methods and the wind profile theory. The aim of this article is to establish a methodology for achieving a wind transfer function for local applications. For this purpose, we analyzed and compared data from a field experiment and from a nearby weather station. A combination of the wind profile and statistical downscaling technique formed the basis of this research, which leads to transfer equations for wind speeds and directions. To clarify the procedure, the proposed methodology was applied to the Valdevaqueros Coastal Dune in order to develop a transfer function using time series data from a nearby meteorological station located in Tarifa.
AbstractWe expound on a hydrographic and geophysical survey in the south of the Archipelago of San Andres, Providencia, and Santa Catalina (ASAPSC) in the Colombian Caribbean Sea. In 2017 and 2018, ...high-resolution data were acquired from the Caribbean Center for Oceanographic and Hydrographic Research (CIOH). The hydrographic data were processed and filtered per International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) standards and the geomagnetic data were processed, corrected, and filtered to improve the interpretation. We could then characterise the submarine relief, analyse the geomagnetic anomalies in the area, and identify different relief forms of volcanic origin. Regarding geomagnetic work, a spectral analysis of the anomalies revealed highly magnetic bodies in deep water and residual magnetic anomalies strongly related to the seabed morphology. Magnetic highs associated with the basement highs and volcanic cones were detected. Complementary spectral analysis showed that the shallowest magnetic sources were in the first 500 m, whereas the deepest magnetic sources were between the depths of 4 and 5 km. The geomagnetic data were also validated using Euler deconvolution analysis, which confirmed these magnetic anomalies. Thus, a direct relationship between the magnetic anomalies and bathymetry of the seafloor was confirmed, reinforcing the theory of the volcanic origin of these islands.
