Background: Oligohydramnios is a condition of abnormally low amniotic fluid volume which is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes. The objectives of the study were to find out the prevalence of ...oligohydramnios, to observe maternal complications associated with oligohydramnios, to detect neonatal morbidities and mortalities in oligohydramnios. Methods: A cross sectional, descriptive study was carried out in the in-patient department of obstetrics and gynaecology at Dhaka national medical college hospital between March 2016 and February 2017. Results: In this study 64 women had oligohydramnios among 1240 pregnant mothers admitted for delivery in obstetrics and gynaecology department and prevalence was 5.2%. Sixty six percent occurrence of oligohydramnios was due to premature rupture of membranes. The mean maternal age was 24.82 + or - 3.71 years. Maternal infections like, Respiratory tract infection (15%), vaginitis (20%), UTI (31%), hyperpyrexia (7%) and maternal systemic illness like, hypertension and diabetes mellitus were also noticed in 7% and 5% of the population. Majority (71%) of the mothers delivered by caesarian section and of them 31.82% was due to foetal distress. Unfavorable neonatal outcome was noticed as low birth weight (LBW) (28%), respiratory depression (32%), perinatal death (14%) and NICU admission (29%). Conclusions: No significant association was found between maternal systemicillness and oligohydramnios. Whereas maternal infection was found as a significantfactor leading to PROM related oligohydramnios. Occurrence of caesarian sections and unfavourable neonatal outcomes were found high in oligohydramnios. Keywords: Oligohydramnios, Maternal complications, Neonatal outcome
Primary malignant melanoma of the vagina is a rare entity which constitutes less than 3% of vaginal cancer and only 0.3-0.8% of all melanomas in women. It has a high risk of local recurrence and ...distant metastasis. Once a recurrence is noted, survival is extremely poor. This article reports a case of primary vaginal melanoma with longer survival. As long-time survival of stage II vaginal melanoma is a rare phenomenon, this case is a unique one in Bangladesh; emphasizing on both importance of routine gynaecological examination for any suspicious pigmented lesions in the vagina as well as the necessity of further research on validating treatment protocols.

Background: Cervical cancer is the second leading malignancy and cause of death in Bangladeshi women. Health professional’s misconceptions about the disease and lack of knowledge may worsen the ...situation. Nurses form a large proportion of the health care provider workforce. Among them who had opportunity to work in cancer hospital should know better about cervical cancer than other hospitals in the country. This survey was undertaken with an intention to address this important health issue by determining the awareness of cervical cancer among nurses at a tertiary cancer centre of Bangladesh.
Objective: To provide the baseline information about the knowledge of cervical cancer and explore attitude and practice of cervical cancer screening among staff nurses.
Methods: A pretested structured self-administered questionnaire based cross sectional survey was done on 154 staff nurses working in National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH), Dhaka, containing mostly recognition and some recall type questions about knowledge of cervical cancer, its risk factors, screening techniques, attitude towards cervical cancer screening and its practices.
Results: 100% respondents heard the name of cervical cancer but 35.7% did not know about any of its risk factors and only 3.2% aware about more than 3 risk factors. Twenty seven percent not aware about any symptom, only 51.9% identified the foul smelling excessive vaginal discharge and irregular abnormal vaginal bleeding as the symptom and 16.8% know that post coital bleeding may be the symptom. Only 42.2% know VIA as a screening test, 39.6% know actual screening interval, 23.37% know who should be screened, 42.2% aware about HPV vaccine, 35.7% can do VIA, 42.2% said that they referred patient for screening but only 16.2% of themselves have ever been screened.
Conclusion: The majority of nursing staff in NICRH had inadequate knowledge about cervical cancer screening and their attitude and practice towards cervical cancer screening could not be termed positive. There is an urgent need for orientation course for working nurses and integration of cervical cancer prevention issues in the existing curriculum of nurses in Bangladesh.

The dental fear and anxiety (DFA) is a common phenomenon around the world. From children to the adults, most of the people become frightened when they face any dental discomfort and they need to ...visit a dentist and go through a treatment procedure in a dental set up. This narrative review tends to identify the causes behind DFA, its consequences and management of DFA from different studies which were conducted previously. This study is a narrative review of DFA. This study is mainly based on the secondary data from different articles and journals which were available online. After the proper screening from 154 titles, the final review included 68 articles. Based on different studies, it is found that DFA in quiet common in the people of all ages. The studies had found that dental fear and anxiety most often results from a traumatic past dental experience. Friendly dental office environment is an effective way in reducing dental fear and anxiety. Psychotherapeutic management is also important is managing DFA like behavior-management techniques, relaxation techniques, distraction, guided imagery, hypnotherapy, acupuncture, systematic desensitization or exposure therapy, positive reinforcement, cognitive restructuring and pharmacological management. The techniques for managing DFA can be the effective solution for reducing stress and make the treatment process more comfortable.
The aim of this audit was to assess the trend of the gynecological cancers for the year of 2022. This is an observational study on retrospectively collected data of gynecological cancer patients at ...National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH), Dhaka. All cases of cancer seen at the gynecology outpatient department and cases admitted in the gynecological oncology ward at NICRH, between the months of January to December 2022 were audited. The results shown that about 5.8% of all the new cases were young women aged below 25 years. The majority of gynecological cancers were among women aged between 35 and 64 years (73.17%) and only 2.6% patients were aged above 75 years. Cervical cancer (59%) was the leading gynecological cancer among all female cancers attended at NICRH. In ovarian malignancy, most of the patients(61%) had stage lll disease and no patient in stage IV diseases. Due to improper evaluation of abnormal uterine bleeding, majority of the endometrial carcinoma patients (64%) presented with histopathology reports after hysterectomy. This study might help to get a in depth understanding of the trend of major gynecological cancers.
