We have performed H and K sub(s) band observations of the planetary system around HR 8799 using the new AO system at the Large Binocular Telescope and the PISCES Camera. The excellent instrument ...performance (Strehl ratios up to 80% in H band) enabled the detection of the innermost planet, HR 8799e, at H band for the first time. The H and K sub(s) magnitudes of HR 8799e are similar to those of planets c and d, with planet e being slightly brighter. Therefore, HR 8799e is likely slightly more massive than c and d. We also explored possible orbital configurations and their orbital stability. We confirm that the orbits of planets b, c and e are consistent with being circular and coplanar; planet d should have either an orbital eccentricity of about 0.1 or be non-coplanar with respect to b and c. Planet e can not be in circular and coplanar orbit in a 4:2:1 mean motion resonances with c and d, while coplanar and circular orbits are allowed for a 5:2 resonance. The analysis of dynamical stability shows that the system is highly unstable or chaotic when planetary masses of about 5 M sub(J) for b and 7 M sub(J) for the other planets are adopted. Significant regions of dynamical stability for timescales of tens of Myr are found when adopting planetary masses of about 3.5, 5, 5, and 5 M sub(J) for HR 8799b, c, d, and e respectively. These masses are below the current estimates based on the stellar age (30 Myr) and theoretical models of substellar objects.

A study of dried spices and herbs from retail and production premises to determine the microbiological status of such products was undertaken in the UK during 2004. According to EC Recommendation ...2004/24/EC and European Spice Association specifications, 96% of 2833 retail samples and 92% of 132 production batches were of satisfactory/acceptable quality.
Salmonella spp. were detected in 1.5% and 1.1% of dried spices and herbs sampled at production and retail, respectively. Overall, 3.0% of herbs and spices contained high counts of

The potential public health risk of using spices and herbs as an addition to ready-to-eat foods that potentially undergo no further processing is therefore highlighted in this study. Prevention of microbial contamination in dried herbs and spices lies in the application of good hygiene practices during growing, harvesting and processing from farm to fork, and effective decontamination. In addition, the importance of correct food handling practices and usage of herbs and spices by end users cannot be overemphasised.

In the last decade, there have clearly been important changes in the surgical approach of gastric cancer treatment due to an increased interest in the minimally invasive surgical approach (MIS). The ...higher cost of robotic surgery procedures remains an important issue of debate. The objective of the study is to compare the main operative and clinical outcomes and to assess the incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) of the two techniques. This is a prospective cost-effectiveness and clinical study when comparing the robotic gastrectomy (RG) technique with open gastrectomy (OG) in gastric cancer. Outcome parameters included surgical and post-operative costs, quality-adjusted life years (QALY) and incremental cost per QALY gained or the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER). The incremental utility was 0.038 QALYs and the estimated ICER for patients was dominated by robotic approach. The probability that the robotic approach was cost effective was 94.04% and 94.20%, respectively, at a WTP threshold of 20,000€ and 30,000€ per QALY gained. RG for gastric cancer represents a cost-effective procedure compared with the standard OG.

Salmonella spp. and/or containing

3 cfu/g. When criteria in the PHLS Microbiological Guidelines for some ready-to-eat foods (2000) were used, 117 (3.9%) of herb samples were of unsatisfactory quality due to the presence of salmonella and/or
E. coli at ≥

2 cfu/g. Eighteen (0.5%) samples of six different herb types were contaminated with
Salmonella spp.: identified as serotypes Senftenberg (8), Agona (2), Anatum (1), Durban (1), Javiana (1), Mgulani (1), Montevideo (1), Unnamed (I 16:g, t: z42) (1), Virchow (1) and mixed Newport & Virchow (1). In each case the retailer and the UK Food Standards Agency were immediately informed and remedial action taken. Samples contaminated with
S. Senftenberg were specifically associated with basil grown in Israel. Thirty-two human cases of
S. Senftenberg infection were subsequently identified throughout England and Wales and a further 19 in Scotland, Denmark, The Netherlands and the USA. The strain of
S. Senftenberg identified from the basil and that from cases had an indistinguishable molecular profile, suggesting a likely connection between consumption of basil and human infection. The presence of
Salmonella spp. is unacceptable in ready-to-foods such as fresh herbs. This study highlights the necessity of applying good agricultural and hygiene practices pre-, during and post-harvest, at processing, retail and use. These practices help to prevent cross-contamination and/or bacterial growth occurring in these products. Best practice is to store and display such products at, or below, 8 °C as this inhibits bacterial growth.

. The patient was diagnosed with Septal Type Asymmetric HCM. Heart Failure (HF) grade III / IV, according to the New York Heart Association (NYHA), was initially treated with 40mg of Propranolol Hydrochloride twice a day, and presented with excessive fatigue, and angina. The echocardiogram showed a final diastolic volume (FDV) of 130 ml, a final systolic volume (FSV) of 44 ml, a left ventricular mass (LVM) of 236 g, interventricular septum thickness of 14 mm, left ventricular posterior wall (LVPW) thickness of 9 mm, left atrium diameter 46 mm, left ventricular end diastolic diameter of 52mm, septum/left ventricular wall ratio of 1.55 mm, and ejection fraction (EF) of 66% (Teicholz). It was obtained as a result of decreased FDV 130 vs. 102ml, decreased FSV 44 vs. 32 ml, decreased LVM 236 vs. 201 g, increased EF 66 vs. 69%, 26% improvement in QL, and 50% reduction in the dosage of Propranolol Hydrochloride. These results suggest that a personalized SCR program is an adjuvant treatment capable of promoting RMR and improving QL and functionality in a patient with HCM.
Using the adaptive optics system of the Large Binocular Telescope, we have obtained near-infrared camera PISCES images of the inner shell of the nebula around the luminous blue variable star P Cygni ...in the Fe ii emission line at 1.6435 μm. We have combined the images in order to cover a field of view of about 20 arcsec around P Cygni, thus providing the high-resolution (0.08 arcsec) two-dimensional spatial distribution of the inner shell of the P Cygni nebula in Fe ii. We have identified several nebular emission regions that are characterized by a signal-to-noise ratio > 3. A comparison of our results with those available in the literature shows full consistency with the findings of Smith & Hartigan, which are based on radial velocity measurements, and relatively good agreement with the extension of emission nebula in N ii λ6584 found by Barlow et al. We have clearly also detected extended emission inside the radial distance R = 7.8 arcsec and outside R = 9.7 arcsec, which are the nebular boundaries proposed by Smith & Hartigan. New complementary spectroscopic observations are planned in order to measure radial velocities and to derive the three-dimensional distribution of the P Cygni nebula.
The new 8.4 m LBT adaptive secondary AO system, with its novel pyramid wavefront sensor, was used to produce very high Strehl (> ~75% at 2.16 mu m) near-infrared narrowband (Br gamma : 2.16 mu m and ...FeII: 1.64 mu m) images of 47 young (~1 Myr) Orion Trapezium theta super(1) Ori cluster members. The inner ~41 x 53" of the cluster was imaged at spatial resolutions of ~0".050 (at 1.64 mu m). A combination of high spatial resolution and high S/N yielded relative binary positions to ~0.5 mas accuracies. Including previous speckle data, we analyze a 15 year baseline of high-resolution observations of this cluster. We are now sensitive to relative proper motions of just ~0.3 mas yr super(-1) (0.6 km s super(-1) at 450 pc); this is a ~7 x improvement in orbital velocity accuracy compared to previous efforts. We now detect clear orbital motions in the theta super(1) Ori B sub(2)B sub(3) system of 4.9 + or - 0.3 km s super(-1) and 7.2 + or - 0.8 km s super(-1) in the theta super(1) Ori A sub(1)A sub(2) system (with correlations of P.A. versus time at >99% confidence). All five members of the theta super(1) Ori B system appear likely a gravitationally bound "mini-cluster." The very lowest mass member of the theta super(1) Ori B system (B sub(4); mass ~0.2 M sub(middot in circle)) has, for the first time, a clearly detected motion (at 4.3 + or - 2.0 km s super(-1); correlation = 99.7%) w.r.t. B sub(1). However, B sub(4) is most likely in a long-term unstable (non-hierarchical) orbit and may "soon" be ejected from this "mini-cluster." This "ejection" process could play a major role in the formation of low-mass stars and brown dwarfs.
We utilize the new Magellan adaptive optics system (MagAO) to image the binary proplyd LV 1 in the Orion Trapezium at H alpha . This is among the first AO results in visible wavelengths. The H alpha ...image clearly shows the ionization fronts, the interproplyd shell, and the cometary tails. Our astrometric measurements find no significant relative motion between components over ~18 yr, implying that LV 1 is a low-mass system. We also analyze Large Binocular Telescope AO observations, and find a point source which may be the embedded protostar's photosphere in the continuum. Converting the H magnitudes to mass, we show that the LV 1 binary may consist of one very-low-mass star with a likely brown dwarf secondary, or even plausibly a double brown dwarf. Finally, the magnetopause of the minor proplyd is estimated to have a radius of 110 AU, consistent with the location of the bow shock seen in H alpha .

Escherichia coli were detected from 0.1% and 0.8% of 2886 edible nut kernels, respectively.
S. Senftenberg and
S. Tennessee were detected from two pre-packed samples of Brazil nuts (0.4%) and
S. Anatum from a pre-packed mixed nuts sample (0.9%; mix: almonds, Brazils, cashews, peanuts, walnuts) indicating a risk to health. The levels of
Salmonella ranged from <0.01 to 0.23/g.
E. coli at unsatisfactory levels (150/g) was present in another pre-packed Brazils nuts sample (0.2%).
E. coli was additionally found at lower levels (range: 3.6–43/g) in Brazils (1.9%), macadamia (1.5%), pistachios (1.1%), walnuts (0.7%), peanuts (0.7%), hazels (0.5%), cashews (0.4%), and almonds (0.3%). Levels of
E. coli did not correlate with the presence of
Salmonella. The batches contaminated with
Salmonella were recalled and Food Standards Agency food alerts were issued to advise against the consumption of the affected products. The presence of
Salmonella is unacceptable in ready-to-eat foods and follows that the need for applying good agricultural and hygiene practices and effective decontamination procedures during the production of edible kernels cannot be overemphasized.

All 120 strains of Salmonella enterica serovar Hadar isolated during 2007–2010 in Greece were characterized by phenotypic and molecular methods. High rates of resistance to nalidixic acid (92%) and ...low levels of ciprofloxacin resistance (88%) were observed. Pulsenet-pulsed field gel electrophoresis profile SHADXB.0001 was predominant in Greece (58%) as in Europe but PT1, a rare phage type in Europe, was frequent in Greece (56%). The SHADXB.0001 and PT1 clone (38%) were found in humans, animals and food of animal origin with R-type ApSpTNxpCp being predominant (25%). The data indicate that this clone (possibly endemic) was circulating through the food chain in Greece during the study period.
