The present study was designed to (a) examine 5- to 8-year-old children's ability to discriminate between antisocial and prosocial teases and (b) determine whether their age and experiences within ...the home are associated with their ability to recognize these two types of teases. Results revealed that the 5- to 8-year-old children were able to discriminate between antisocial and prosocial teases. Although the children's parents or legal guardians indicated that the children had more frequent experience with prosocial than antisocial teases in the home, (a) the children were better able to correctly identify the intent of antisocial teasers than prosocial teasers and (b) the parents or legal guardians (correctly) indicated that their child would be better able to recognize an antisocial tease than a prosocial tease. Despite the finding that the children's comprehension of antisocial teasing tended to exceed their comprehension of prosocial teasing, the findings indicate that being relatively young (i.e., 5-6 years old vs. 7-8 years old) and having relatively frequent experience with antisocial teasing in the home may be associated with some children's difficulty in recognizing the intent behind antisocial teases.

ABSTRACT We investigated the formation of the Mg ii h-k doublet in a weakly magnetized atmosphere (20-100 G) using a newly developed numerical code for polarized radiative transfer in a ...plane-parallel geometry, which implements a recent formulation of partially coherent scattering by polarized multi-term atoms in arbitrary magnetic-field regimes. Our results confirm the importance of partial redistribution effects in the formation of the Mg ii h and k lines, as pointed out by previous work in the non-magnetic case. We show that the presence of a magnetic field can produce measurable modifications of the broadband linear polarization even for relatively small field strengths (∼10 G), while the circular polarization remains well represented by the classical magnetograph formula. Both these results open an important new window for the weak-field diagnostics of the upper solar atmosphere.
Destructive earthquakes are rare in France yet pose a sizable seismic hazard, especially when critical infrastructures are concerned. Only a few destructive events have occurred within the ...instrumental period, the most important being the 11 June 1909, Lambesc (Provence) earthquake. With a magnitude estimated at 6.2 Rothé, 1942, the event was recorded by 30 observatories and produced intensity IX effects in the epicentral area, ∼30 km north of Marseille. We collected 30 seismograms, leveling data, and earthquake intensities to assess the magnitude and possibly the focal mechanism of this event. Following this multidisciplinary approach, we propose a source model where all relevant parameters are constrained by at least two of the input data sets. Our reappraisal of the seismological data yielded Mw 5.7–6.1 (6.0 preferred) and Ms 6.0, consistent with the magnitude from intensity data (Me 5.8) and with constraints derived from modeling of coseismic elevation changes. Hence we found the Lambesc earthquake to have been somewhat smaller than previously reported. Our data sets also constrain the geometry and kinematics of faulting, suggesting that the earthquake was generated by reverse‐right lateral slip on a WNW‐striking, steeply north‐dipping fault beneath the western part of the Trévaresse fold. This result suggests that the fold, located in front of the Lubéron thrust, plays a significant role in the region's recent tectonic evolution. The sense of slip obtained for the 1909 rupture also agrees with the regional stress field obtained from earthquake focal mechanisms and microtectonic data as well as recent GPS data.
The Aria cryogenic distillation plant, located in Sardinia, Italy, is a key component of the DarkSide-20k experimental program for WIMP dark matter searches at the INFN Laboratori Nazionali del Gran ...Sasso, Italy. Aria is designed to purify the argon, extracted from underground wells in Colorado, USA, and used as the DarkSide-20k target material, to detector-grade quality. In this paper, we report the first measurement of argon isotopic separation by distillation with the 26 m tall Aria prototype. We discuss the measurement of the operating parameters of the column and the observation of the simultaneous separation of the three stable argon isotopes:

Con el objetivo de evaluar el efecto de diferentes fuentes de suplementación proteínica en la ganancia de peso de animales que consumían una dieta mixta a base de hollejo de cítrico, se desarrolló en ...la Empresa Citrícola "Victoria de Girón" un estudio con machos de la raza Cebú comercial. En el período enero-abril se suministró forraje y hollejo de cítrico fresco a voluntad; los suplementos fueron: 0,5 kg/animal/día de heno; 0,05 kg de sales minerales; 0,04 de urea y 3 kg/animal/día de afrecho de trigo. En el período mayo-julio se ofrecieron los mismos alimentos, pero con variaciones en el suplemento proteínico: 1,5 kg de afrecho de trigo y levadura Saccharomyces. En el primer período, por la alta suplementación con afrecho de trigo y el bajo porcentaje de proteína del forraje (3,7%), su consumo fue menor con respecto al segundo período (6,5 vs 19,8 kg/animal/día). Durante mayo-julio, la inclusión de la levadura Saccharomyces permitió disminuir la cantidad de afrecho de trigo, lograr un mejor empleo de los alimentos voluminosos, no hacer uso de la urea y obtener las mayores ganancias (0,525 vs 0,6 kg/animal/día). La conversión alimentaria mostró valores de13,8 y 14,0. En esta investigación se comprobó la importancia de las fuentes de proteína para lograr mayores ganancias de peso en los ciclos de ceba
In order to evaluate the effect of different sources of protein supplementation on the weight gain of animals that ate a mixed diet based on citrus pulp, a study was conducted at the "Victoria de Girón" Citrus Fruit Firm with bulls from the commercial Zebu breed. In the January-April period, forage and fresh citrus pulp were supplied ad libitum; the supplements were: 0,5 kg/animal/day of hay; 0,05 kg of mineral salts; 0,04 kg of urea and 3 kg/animal/day of wheat bran. In the May-July period the same feedstuffs were fed, but with variations in the protein supplement: 1,5 kg of wheat bran and Saccharomyces yeast. In the first period, due to the high supplementation with wheat bran and the low percentage of protein (3,7%) in the forage, its intake was lower as compared to the second period (6,5 vs 19,8 kg/animal/day). During May-July, the inclusion of the Saccharomyces yeast allowed to decrease the quantity of wheat bran, achieve a better utilization of roughages, avoid the use of urea and obtain the highest gains (0,525 vs 0,6 kg/animal/day). The feed conversion showed values of 13,8 and 14,0. In this study the importance of protein sources to achieve higher weight gains in the fattening cycles was proven.

We derive the relative moment rate function for the main shocks in the Fall 1997 Central Italy seismic sequence (Mw=5.7; 6.0; 5.6) by applying an empirical Green function method. By using three ...conveniently placed broad‐band MedNet stations we obtain clear source time functions indicating directivity effects for all of the three earthquakes, with southeastward rupture propagation for the two southernmost events and an opposite direction for the other and largest one. Taking a simple source model, forward modeling is utilized for determining fault parameters such as length, rupture propagation velocity and direction and slip distribution.

The direct search for dark matter in the form of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMP) is performed by detecting nuclear recoils produced in a target material from the WIMP elastic scattering. ...The experimental identification of the direction of the WIMP-induced nuclear recoils is a crucial asset in this field, as it enables unmistakable modulation signatures for dark matter. The Recoil Directionality (ReD) experiment was designed to probe for such directional sensitivity in argon dual-phase time projection chambers (TPC), that are widely considered for current and future direct dark matter searches. The TPC of ReD was irradiated with neutrons at the INFN Laboratori Nazionali del Sud. Data were taken with nuclear recoils of known directions and kinetic energy of 72 keV, which is within the range of interest for WIMP-induced signals in argon. The direction-dependent liquid argon charge recombination model by Cataudella et al. was adopted and a likelihood statistical analysis was performed, which gave no indications of significant dependence of the detector response to the recoil direction. The activation of materials due to exposure to cosmic rays may become an important background source for experiments investigating rare event phenomena. DarkSide-20k, currently under construction at ...the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso, is a direct detection experiment for galactic dark matter particles, using a two-phase liquid-argon Time Projection Chamber (TPC) filled with 49.7 tonnes (active mass) of Underground Argon (UAr) depleted in 39Ar. Despite the outstanding capability of discriminating γ/β background in argon TPCs, this background must be considered because of induced dead time or accidental coincidences mimicking dark-matter signals and it is relevant for low-threshold electron-counting measurements. Here, the cosmogenic activity of relevant long-lived radioisotopes induced in the experiment has been estimated to set requirements and procedures during preparation of the experiment and to check that it is not dominant over primordial radioactivity; particular attention has been paid to the activation of the 120 t of UAr used in DarkSide-20k. Expected exposures above ground and production rates, either measured or calculated, have been considered in detail. From the simulated counting rates in the detector due to cosmogenic isotopes, it is concluded that activation in copper and stainless steel is not problematic. The activity of 39Ar induced during extraction, purification and transport on surface is evaluated to be 2.8% of the activity measured in UAr by DarkSide-50 experiment, which used the same underground source, and thus considered acceptable. Other isotopes in the UAr such as 37Ar and 3H are shown not to be relevant due to short half-life and assumed purification methods.
