Soft polymers such as the investigated polyurethane, characterized by low Young's moduli and prone to high shear deflection, are frequently applied in pneumatic cylinders. Their performance and ...lifetime without external lubrication are highly determined by the friction between seal and shaft and the wear rate. FEM simulation has established itself as a tool in seal design processes but requires input values for friction and wear depending on material, load, and velocity. This paper presents a tribological test configuration for long stroke, reciprocating movement, allowing the generation of data which meet the requirements of input parameters for FEM simulations without the geometrical influences of specific seal profiles. A numerical parameter study, performed with an FEM model, revealed the most eligible sample geometry as a flat, disc-shaped sample of the polymer glued on a stiff sample holder. At the same time, the study illustrates that the sensitivity of the contact pressure distribution to Poisson's ratio and CoF can be minimized by the developed and verified setup. It ensures robust, reliable, and repeatable experimental results with uniform contact pressures and constant contact areas to be used in databases and FEM simulations of seals, enabling upscaling from generically shaped samples to complex seal profiles.

For a tribological experiment involving a steel shaft sliding in a self-lubricating bronze bearing, a semi-supervised machine learning method for the classification of the state of operation is ...proposed. During the translatory oscillating motion, the system may undergo different states of operation from normal to critical, showing self-recovering behaviour. A Random Forest classifier was trained on individual cycles from the lateral force data from four distinct experimental runs in order to distinguish between four states of operation. The labelling of the individual cycles proved to be crucial for a high prediction accuracy of the trained RF classifier. The proposed semi-supervised approach allows choosing within a range between automatically generated labels and full manual labelling by an expert user. The algorithm was at the current state used for ex post classification of the state of operation. Considering the results from the ex post analysis and providing a sufficiently sized training dataset, online classification of the state of operation of a system will be possible. This will allow taking active countermeasures to stabilise the system or to terminate the experiment before major damage occurs.

Die Senkung von Entwicklungszeiten und Kosten sind wesentliche Treiber für die produzierende Industrie. Gerade die Entwicklung neuer Werkstoffe zeigt dahingehend ein großes Potential, ...dass die derzeit eingesetzten Standardentwicklungsprozesse extrem zeit- und kostenaufwendig sind.
In diesem Beitrag wird eine Lab-2-Field Methode vorgestellt, welche durch Verknüpfung von ausgesuchten Labortests mit einer numerischen Systemsimulation die Möglichkeiten der virtuellen Produkt- und Werkstoffentwicklung aufzeigt. Die Anwendbarkeit dieser Methode wird anhand eines Anwendungsfalles aus der Landwirtschaft (Kreiseleggenzinken) dargestellt mit dem Ziel, neue Verschleißschutzschichten zur Lebensdauererhöhung von Bodenbearbeitungsgeräten zu entwickeln.
Basierend auf dem Standard Verschleißtest mittels Reibrad (ASTM G65-04) werden Verschleißparameter für neue Werkstofftypen ermittelt. Mittels Finite Elemente Simulation wird dieser Test virtuell nachgerechnet und daraus Parameter für die Systemsimulation des gesamten Zinkens ermittelt. In dieser Systemsimulation wird die Feldanwendung unter Berücksichtigung der realen Belastungsdaten (Bodenbeschaffenheit, Fahrprofil, Pressungen, und mehr) abgebildet und in einem iterativen Prozess das zeitlich aufgelöste Verschleißbild ermittelt.
Die Validierung des Verschleißbildes mit realen Feldtests zeigt eine qualitativ gute Übereinstimmung. Ein Optimierungspotential der dargestellten Lab-2-Field Methode ist in der Wahl der Parameter für das Bodenmodell anzugeben.
Mit der präsentierten Methode wurde ein effizientes und kostensparendes Werkzeug zur Entwicklung neuer Verschleißschutzlösungen erarbeitet. Dabei können sowohl neue Werkstoffe als auch das Design von Komponenten hinsichtlich ihres realen Anwendungsgebietes entwickelt und optimiert werden.

So far, the VMM was ...investigated with fixed rotor parameters only. In this paper, the parameters of the current model are provided by a parameter tracking technique. For this advanced rotor fault detection method, measurement results are presented for steady-state and varying load torque operations.

This paper investigates the impact of inertia on the fault signatures of squirrel cage induction machines. Rotor faults give rise to harmonic sideband currents and double slip frequency shaft ...torque oscillations, however. The total drive inertia thus influences the speed ripple which, again, influences the balance of the magnitudes of the lower and upper sideband current. Considering certain assumptions, the impact of the speed ripple on the current harmonics with respect to the stator and rotor fixed reference frame is investigated analytically. This paper deals with a rotor temperature estimation scheme for fan-cooled mains-fed squirrel-cage induction motors. The proposed technique combines a rotor resistance estimation method with a ...thermal equivalent circuit. Usually, rotor resistance estimation works quite well under rated load conditions. By contrast, if the motor is slightly loaded, rotor resistance estimation becomes inaccurate due to the small slip. Therefore, rotor temperature estimation under low-load conditions may be estimated by a thermal equivalent model. In order to determine the rotor resistance and, thus, rotor temperature accurately, several machine parameters have to be obtained in advance. Load tests provide the leakage reactance and the iron losses of the induct machine. The stator resistance has to be measured separately. The parameters of the thermal equivalent model are a thermal resistance and a thermal capacitance. These parameters are derived from a heating test, where the reference temperature is provided from the parameter model in the time domain. This lumped thermal parameter model is based on the assumption that the total rotor temperature increase is caused by the total sum of the losses in the induction machine. Measuring results of a 1.5-kW and an 18.5-kW four-pole low-voltage motor and a 210-kW four-pole high-voltage motor are presented and compared.
Um den Entwicklungsprozess von neuen Komponenten zu beschleunigen, ist die Vorrausage der Eigenschaften der eingesetzten Werkstoffe im Betrieb der Komponenten von enormer Bedeutung. Um neue ...Werkstoffe hinsichtlich Ihrer Performance (in einer Komponente) bewerten zu können, ist deshalb die Entwicklung neuer innovativer Methoden notwendig. Diese Methoden können auch unter dem Begriff „lab-to-field“ oder „materials“ – up-scaling zusammengefasst werden. D. h. Werkstoffe werden im Labor charakterisiert, und deren Eigenschaften mittels z.B. Simulation auf die Komponentenperformance hochskaliert (up-scaling). i-TRIBOMAT ist ein EU gefördertes Projekt (H2020, GA Nr. 814494) mit dem Ziel ein Open Innovation Test Bed für tribologische Werkstoffcharakterisierung aufzubauen und ent-sprechende Services von der tribologischen Charakterisierung neuer Werkstoffe bis hin zu Simulationsmodellen zur Vorrausage der Performance von Komponenten der Industrie anzubieten. Durch die Bündelung von Knowhow und Infrastruktur zu Charakterisierung sowie den Aufbau einer digitalen Plattform, wird i-TRIBOMAT das weltgrößte Open Innovation Test Bed für tribologische Werkstoffcharakterisierung.
