The article explores how the lifecycle of mining companies impacts staff turnover and the workforce, with a particular focus on the potential role of age management. Content analysis of several ...companies' internal and publicly available documents provided the necessary data, in particular with regard to the micro-environment of the company, some of which are under threat of bankruptcy. The findings suggest that the potential failure of such companies has a significant effect on staff turnover, requiring the implementation of an effective age management strategy to resolve the resulting problems. At the same time, and in parallel to the aforementioned, the current conflict in Ukraine is having a significant impact on the mining industry and state energy policies. Many (open-cast) mines were reopened or given a stay of execution, with all the implications this has. The article is limited by the fact that it lacks sufficient data on enough mining companies that are facing bankruptcy and have restructured on the basis of effective age management.
WNTs are lipid-modified proteins that control multiple functions in development and disease via short- and long-range signaling. However, it is unclear how these hydrophobic molecules spread over ...long distances in the mammalian brain. Here we show that WNT5A is produced by the choroid plexus (ChP) of the developing hindbrain, but not the telencephalon, in both mouse and human. Since the ChP produces and secretes the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), we examine the presence of WNT5A in the CSF and find that it is associated with lipoprotein particles rather than exosomes. Moreover, since the CSF flows along the apical surface of hindbrain progenitors not expressing Wnt5a, we examined whether deletion of Wnt5a in the ChP controls their function and find that cerebellar morphogenesis is impaired. Our study thus identifies the CSF as a route and lipoprotein particles as a vehicle for long-range transport of biologically active WNT in the central nervous system.
The presence of Leishmania RNA virus 1 (LRV1) enables Leishmania protozoan parasites to cause more severe disease than the virus-free strains. The structure of LRV1 virus-like particles has been ...determined previously, however, the structure of the LRV1 virion has not been characterized. Here we used cryo-electron microscopy and single-particle reconstruction to determine the structures of the LRV1 virion and empty particle isolated from Leishmania guyanensis to resolutions of 4.0 Å and 3.6 Å, respectively. The capsid of LRV1 is built from sixty dimers of capsid proteins organized with icosahedral symmetry. RNA genomes of totiviruses are replicated inside the virions by RNA polymerases expressed as C-terminal extensions of a sub-population of capsid proteins. Most of the virions probably contain one or two copies of the RNA polymerase, however, the location of the polymerase domains in LRV1 capsid could not be identified, indicating that it varies among particles.
Importance.
Every year over 200 000 people contract leishmaniasis and more than five hundred people die of the disease. The mucocutaneous form of leishmaniasis produces lesions that can destroy the mucous membranes of the nose, mouth, and throat. Leishmania parasites carrying Leishmania RNA virus 1 (LRV1) are predisposed to cause aggravated symptoms in the mucocutaneous form of leishmaniasis. Here, we present the structure of the LRV1 virion determined using cryo-electron microscopy.

Objects
Health Behaviours in School-aged Children (HBSC) is an international survey programme aiming to investigate adolescents’ health behaviours, subjective perception of health status, wellbeing, ...and the related contextual information. Our scoping review aimed to synthesise the evidence from HBSC about the relationship between family environmental contributors and adolescents’ health-related outcomes.
Methods
We searched previous studies from six electronic databases. Two researchers identified the qualified publications independently by abstract and full-text screening with the assistance of an NLP-based AI instrument, ASReview. Publications were included if they were based on HBSC data and investigated the effects of family environment on adolescents’ health outcomes. Researches addressed family-related factors as mediators or moderators were also included.
Results
A total of 241 articles were included. Family environmental contributors could be mapped into six categories: (1) Demographic backgrounds (

= 177); (2) General family’s psycho-socio functions (

= 44); (3) Parenting behaviours (
N
= 100); (4) Parental health behaviours (
N
= 7); (5) Family activities (
N
= 24); and (6) Siblings (
N
= 7). Except for 75 papers that assessed family variables as moderators (
N
= 70) and mediators (
N
= 7), the others suggested family environment was an independent variable. Only five studies employed the data-driven approach.
Conclusion
Our results suggest most research studies focussed on the influences of family demographic backgrounds on adolescents’ health. The researches related to parental health behaviours and siblings are most inadequate. Besides, we recommend further research studies to focus on the mediator/moderator roles of the family, for exploring the deep mechanism of the family’s impacts. Also, it would be valuable to consider data-driven analysis more in the future, as HBSC has mass variables and data.
Water pollution and freshwater scarcity are growing problems not only in Europe but all over the world. Water reuse contributes significantly to water sustainability and brings many environmental, ...economic, and social benefits. The European Union (EU) has recently been addressing water-related problems with great commitment. Unfortunately, the total production of wastewater in the European Union is unknown. The situation in the EU is not satisfactory, as only 2.5% of treated wastewater is reused. The first contribution of this study is the estimation of the total amount of wastewater produced annually in the EU. It is estimated that half of this amount comes from industry, namely over 25,500 million m3. Therefore, this study aims to review and analyze the current state of the industrial wastewater (IWW) issue in the EU and to put it in the context of current EU legislation, targets, and water reuse policy. Moreover, since water reuse technologies are energy intensive, the focus is given to the techno-economic impact of IWW reuse. The energy consumption and investment costs in relation to the amount of water treated have been determined for filtration only, minimum liquid discharge (MLD), and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) systems. Reclaiming 80% of IWW would increase industrial energy consumption by only 4.1%, and investment costs would amount to only 1.5% of the EU GDP. Further, the assessment was focused on the paper & pulp industry, which is among the largest wastewater producers. Implementing efficient water reuse technology in this industry could mean up to 3,449 Mm3/year of reclaimed water.

While these null mutants have a decreased mitochondrial membrane potential, they have adapted by increasing their dependence on the electrogenic contributions of the ADP/ATP carrier to maintain the mitochondrial membrane potential above the minimum threshold required for T. brucei viability in vitro. However, this inefficient compensatory mechanism results in avirulent mutants in mice. Finally, the depletion of the codon-independent release factor TbPth4 in the TbMrf1 knockouts further exacerbates the characterized mitchondrial phenotypes.

This study compares the effects of nonthermal plasma treatment on quinine water solutions for two configurations—the corona‐like discharge and the gliding arc discharge (GAD). Different electrolytes ...were added to the quinine solutions to modify the initial pH and enhance electrical conductivity for plasma discharge ignition directly in the liquid. A slightly higher quinine decomposition rate of 2.9 μg W−1 after 5 min of the treatment was achieved by GAD. From measured spectra, it was found that the absorption maximum at 332 nm was split into two separated peaks in the acidic and basic solution. The study of the time stability of quinine solutions has revealed quinine instability and that postpreparation time has influenced the plasma treatment effect.
Two discharge reactors generating plasma directly inside (the corona‐like discharge CLD) and above the treated liquid (the gliding arc discharge GAD) are used for the treatment of quinine solutions. The decomposition of quinine is determined by UV‐VIS and fluorescence spectrometry. The influence of added electrolytes and solution pH is studied as well as the stability of prepared and treated quinine solutions.

Here, we review the function of FGF10 in morphogenesis of craniofacial organs. Genetic mouse models have demonstrated that the dysregulation or absence of FGF10 function affects the process of palate closure, and FGF10 is also required for development of salivary and lacrimal glands, the inner ear, eye lids, tongue taste papillae, teeth, and skull bones. Importantly, mutations within the
locus have been described in connection with craniofacial malformations in humans. A detailed understanding of craniofacial defects caused by dysregulation of FGF10 and the precise mechanisms that underlie them offers new opportunities for development of medical treatments for patients with birth defects and for regenerative approaches for cancer patients with damaged gland tissues.
Abstract
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects motor nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Etiological mechanisms underlying the disease ...remain poorly understood; recent studies suggest that deregulation of p25/Cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (Cdk5) activity leads to the hyperphosphorylation of Tau and neurofilament (NF) proteins in ALS transgenic mouse model (SOD1G37R). A Cdk5 involvement in motor neuron degeneration is supported by analysis of three SOD1G37R mouse lines exhibiting perikaryal inclusions of NF proteins and hyperphosphorylation of Tau. Here, we tested the hypothesis that inhibition of Cdk5/p25 hyperactivation in vivo is a neuroprotective factor during ALS pathogenesis by crossing the new transgenic mouse line that overexpresses Cdk5 inhibitory peptide (CIP) in motor neurons with the SOD1G37R, ALS mouse model (TriTg mouse line). The overexpression of CIP in the motor neurons significantly improves motor deficits, extends survival and delays pathology in brain and spinal cord of TriTg mice. In addition, overexpression of CIP in motor neurons significantly delays neuroinflammatory responses in TriTg mouse. Taken together, these data suggest that CIP may serve as a novel therapeutic agent for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

The western honeybee is the primary pollinator of numerous food crops. Furthermore, honeybees are essential for ecosystem stability by sustaining the diversity and abundance of wild flowering plants. However, the worldwide population of honeybees is under pressure from environmental stress and pathogens. Viruses from the families Iflaviridae and Dicistroviridae, together with their vector, the parasitic mite Varroa destructor, are the major threat to the world’s honeybees. Dicistroviruses and iflaviruses have capsids with icosahedral symmetries. Acidic pH triggers the genome release of both dicistroviruses and iflaviruses. The capsids of iflaviruses expand, whereas those of dicistroviruses remain compact until the genome release. Furthermore, dicistroviruses use inner capsid proteins, whereas iflaviruses employ protruding domains or minor capsid proteins from the virion surface to penetrate membranes and deliver their genomes into the cell cytoplasm. The structural characterization of the infection process opens up possibilities for the development of antiviral compounds.
