Forests in the Tibetan Plateau are thought to be vulnerable to climate extremes, yet they also tend to exhibit resilience contributing to the maintenance of ecosystem services in and beyond the ...plateau. So far the spatiotemporal pattern in tree resilience in the Tibetan Plateau remains largely unquantified and the influence of specific factors on the resilience is poorly understood. Here, we study ring‐width data from 849 trees at 28 sites in the Tibetan Plateau with the aim to quantify tree resilience and determine their diving forces. Three extreme drought events in years 1969, 1979, and 1995 are detected from metrological records. Regional tree resistance to the three extreme droughts shows a decreasing trend with the proportion of trees having high resistance ranging from 71.9%, 55.2%, to 39.7%. Regional tree recovery is increasing with the proportion of trees having high recovery ranging from 28.3%, 52.2%, to 64.2%. The area with high resistance is contracting and that of high recovery is expanding. The spatiotemporal resistance and recovery are associated with moisture availability and diurnal temperature range, respectively. In addition, they are both associated with forest internal factor represented by growth consistence among trees. We conclude that juniper trees in the Tibetan Plateau have increased resilience to extreme droughts in the study period. We highlight pervasive resilience in juniper trees. The results have implications for predicting tree resilience and identifying areas vulnerable to future climate extremes.
Tree resilience is important for maintaining the healthy growth of forests, yet remains largely unquantified. The variation of tree resilience is associated with moisture availability, diurnal temperature range, and growth consistence among trees. The results have implications for predicting tree resilience and identifying areas vulnerable to future climate extremes.

Peptide‐based materials are one of the most important biomaterials, with diverse structures and functionalities. Over the past few decades, a self‐assembly strategy is introduced to construct ...peptide‐based nanomaterials, which can form well‐controlled superstructures with high stability and multivalent effect. More recently, peptide‐based functional biomaterials are widely utilized in clinical applications. However, there is no comprehensive review article that summarizes this growing area, from fundamental research to clinic translation. In this review, the recent progress of peptide‐based materials, from molecular building block peptides and self‐assembly driving forces, to biomedical and clinical applications is systematically summarized. Ex situ and in situ constructed nanomaterials based on functional peptides are presented. The advantages of intelligent in situ construction of peptide‐based nanomaterials in vivo are emphasized, including construction strategy, nanostructure modulation, and biomedical effects. This review highlights the importance of self‐assembled peptide nanostructures for nanomedicine and can facilitate further knowledge and understanding of these nanosystems toward clinical translation.

An assembly‐induced retention effect for enhanced tumor photoacoustic (PA) imaging and therapeutics is described. As one of the most important issues in the field of mobile robotics, self-localization allows a mobile robot to identify and keep track of its own position and orientation as the robot moves through the environment. In this work, a hybrid localization approach based on the particle filter and particle swarm optimization algorithm is presented, focusing on the localization tasks when an a priori environment map is available. This results an accurate and robust particle filter based localization algorithm that is able to work in symmetrical environments. The performance of the proposed approach has been evaluated for indoor robot localization and compared with two benchmark algorithms. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves robust and accurate positioning results in indoor environments, requiring fewer particles than the benchmark methods. This advance could be integrated in a wide range of mobile robot systems, helping to reduce the computational cost and improve the navigation efficiency.

The decreasing trend in diurnal temperature range (DTR) since the 1950s has been widely observed in many regions of the world, including the Tibetan Plateau (TP). However, scarce instrumental records ...on the TP before the 1950s limit the understanding of DTR variation on a longer timescale, and its internal forcing mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we present two regional records of May–June DTR since 1753 reconstructed from tree rings on the northeastern TP (NETP) and southeastern TP (SETP), respectively. The decreasing trend in DTR in the second half of the twentieth century also occurred in the time earlier than the 1950s, indicating that the reduction in DTR is not unique to global warming. Spatially, both the instrumental and reconstructed DTR show different modes on the NETP and SETP. Composite analysis and superposed epoch analysis reveal the linkage between El Niño‐Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the DTR on the SETP. La Niña (El Niño) winters are generally followed by the stronger (weaker) early Indian summer monsoon so that may lead to the decrease (increase) in May–June DTR. The positive correlation between Niño 3.4 index and the DTR on the SETP over the past two and a half centuries is accompanied by a stable response of the decreased DTR to La Niña events. These results suggest that ENSO is a crucial driver for the DTR variation on the SETP through oceanic‐atmospheric modulation.

Abstract
AH Her is a Z Cam-type dwarf nova with an orbital period of ∼0.258 days. Dwarf nova oscillations and long-period dwarf nova oscillations have been detected, but no quasiperiodic oscillations ...(QPOs) and negative superhumps (NSHs) have been found. We investigated the association between NSHs, QPOs, and outbursts of AH Her based on Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite photometry. We find for the first time NSHs with a period of 0.24497(1) days in AH Her, and trace the variation in the amplitude and period of NSHs with the outburst. The amplitude of the NSHs is the most significant at quiescence, weakening as the outburst rises, becoming undetectable at the top, rebounding and weakening at the plateau, and strengthening again as the outburst declines. The variation in the accretion disk radius can explain the NSH amplitude variation except for the plateau, so we suggest that the relationship between the NSH amplitude and outburst can be used as a window to study the accretion disk instability and the origin of NSHs. In addition, we find periodic variations in the amplitude, maxima, and shape of the NSHs ranging from 2.33(2) to 2.68(5) days, which may be related to the precession of the tilted disk. Finally, we find QPOs at the top of AH Her’s long outburst with ∼2800 s similar to those of HS 2325+8205, suggesting that the presence of QPOs at the top of Z Cam’s long outburst may be a general phenomenon.

Currently, the final destination of waste jujube shells from the deep processing of jujubes is usually burnt or simply thrown away, which has a significant impact on the natural environment. In this work, we established a strategy for the secondary use of waste jujube shells to solve the problems above. The jujube shell biomass carbon materials were prepared by using waste jujube shell residue after extraction of essential oils as carbon source, ZnCl2 as activator, boric acid and urea as dopants. In the three-electrode system, the specific capacitance of the boron-nitrogen co-doped carbon supercapacitor is 535F/g at the current density of 1 A/g, and the capacitance retention rate is 62.8%, Moreover, the assembled symmetrical two-electrode supercapacitor in an aqueous KOH electrolyte presented considerable synergetic energy–power output properties with an energy density of 13.97 Wh/kg at a power density of 250.0 W/kg, and 5.58 Wh/kg at 2.5 kW/kg.

Cerebral amyloid β-peptide (Aβ) accumulation resulting from an imbalance between Aβ production and clearance is one of the most important causes in the formation of Alzheimer's disease (AD). In order ...to preserve the maintenance of Aβ homeostasis and have a notable AD therapy, achieving a method to clear up Aβ plaques becomes an emerging task. Herein, we describe a self-destructive nanosweeper based on multifunctional peptide-polymers that is capable of capturing and clearing Aβ for the effective treatment of AD. The nanosweeper recognize and bind Aβ via co-assembly through hydrogen bonding interactions. The Aβ-loaded nanosweeper enters cells and upregulates autophagy thus promoting the degradation of Aβ. As a result, the nanosweeper decreases the cytotoxicity of Aβ and rescues memory deficits of AD transgenic mice. We believe that this resourceful and synergistic approach has valuable potential as an AD treatment strategy.
Although bioactive sphingolipids have been shown to regulate cardiometabolic homeostasis and inflammatory signaling pathways in rodents, population-based longitudinal studies of relationships between ...sphingolipids and onset of metabolic syndrome (MetS) are sparse. We aimed to determine associations of circulating sphingolipids with inflammatory markers, adipokines, and incidence of MetS. Among 1242 Chinese people aged 50–70 years who completed the 6-year resurvey, 76 baseline plasma sphingolipids were quantified by high-throughput liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. There were 431 incident MetS cases at 6-year revisit. After multivariable adjustment including lifestyle characteristics and BMI, 21 sphingolipids mainly from ceramide and hydroxysphingomyelin subclasses were significantly associated with incident MetS. Meanwhile, the baseline ceramide score was positively associated (RRQ4 versus Q1 = 1.31; 95% CI 1.05, 1.63; ptrend = 0.010) and the hydroxysphingomyelin score was inversely associated (RRQ4 versus Q1 = 0.60; 95% CI 0.45, 0.79; ptrend < 0.001) with incident MetS. When further controlling for clinical lipids, both associations were attenuated but remained significant. Comparing extreme quartiles, RRs (95% CIs) of MetS risk were 1.34 (95% CI 1.06, 1.70; ptrend = 0.010) for ceramide score and 0.71 (95% CI 0.51, 0.97; ptrend = 0.018) for hydroxysphingomyelin score, respectively. Furthermore, a stronger association between ceramide score and incidence of MetS was evidenced in those having higher inflammation levels (RRQ4 versus Q1 1.57; 95% CI 1.16, 2.12; pinteraction = 0.004). Our data suggested that elevated ceramide concentrations were associated with a higher MetS risk, whereas raised hydroxysphingomyelin levels were associated with a lower MetS risk beyond traditional clinical lipids.
