Limited information is available concerning the coexistence of COVID-19 and opportunistic infections in people living with HIV. The possible association of COVID-19 with AIDS-related respiratory ...diseases should be considered, particularly in patients with advance immunosuppression. We report the case of a male patient with AIDS-related disseminated histoplasmosis associated with COVID-19.
This paper proposes a common mode (CM) electromagnetic interference active filter devised for application in automotive induction motor drives. The active filter is based on a feedback scheme and it ...is realized using linear amplifiers. It performs the compensation of the CM voltage at the motor input, allowing an increase of the drive reliability and a reduction of the harmonic content of leakage high-frequency CM currents that affect the vehicle electromagnetic compatibility. A size-optimized layout is proposed and the influence of the power linear amplifier performance on the CM voltage compensation is discussed. General guidelines for the active filter design are given and its experimental implementation is presented. Finally, the filter performance is assessed by simulations and experimental tests.
Shoulder dystocia is a rare but severe obstetric complication associated with an increased risk of brachial plexus palsies, fractures of the clavicle and humerus, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and, ...rarely, neonatal death.
Here we describe a fatal case of shoulder dystocia in a term newborn, although labor was uneventful, fetal heart rate tracing was normal until the delivery of the head and the head-to-body delivery interval (HBDI) occurred within 5 min. Full resuscitation was performed for 35 min without success. Hemoglobin concentration evaluated on the umbilical cord still attached to the placenta was within normal range, while neonatal venous hemoglobin concentration blood gases at 9 min of life showed severe metabolic acidosis and anemia.
As previously described by others, our case supports the hypothesis of a hypovolemic shock as the cause of neonatal death, probably due to acute placental retention of fetal blood.
The death of the newborn following shoulder dystocia is an event that still presents numerous gaps in knowledge. Further research should focus on:•Performing neonatal resuscitation with an intact umbilical cord.•Milking the umbilical cord before clamping.•Clamp the umbilical cord leaving a long portion attached to the newborn and squeeze its content simultaneously with the first resuscitation maneuvers.•Consider postdelivery volume replacement therapy sooner than expected from resuscitation algorithm.

This letter sets out to describe the first results of the design process that will lead to a new on-line partial discharge location method based on Electromagnetic Time Reversal theory and using the ...Transmission Line-Matrix method. A description of the basic steps of the method under design is given together with the modeling procedure used to describe time inverted signal propagation. Finally, the ability of the method to locate partial discharges on power cables both using two observation points and a single observation point is proved in simulation.
The aim of this study is to assess whether the touch of osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) can affect the endogenous production of oxytocin in full-term pregnant women and the assessment of ...well-being following the treatment.
In this study have been enrolled 57 pregnant women at full-term pregnancy (37th-41st week) for evaluation of the concentration of salivary oxytocin 2 minutes before and 2 minutes after a single session of OMT by an osteopath lasting for 30 minutes. Pre-OMT and post-OMT saliva samples were collected with the use of Salivette® salivary swabs. 7 salivary swabs were excluded from the analysis. 50 samples were analyzed with an appropriate ELISA kit.
The mean OT salivary concentration pre-OMT was 89.98±16.39, and post-OMT was 100.60±19.13 tends to increase with p=0.0000051. In multivariate analysis, two subgroups show interesting data in the mean difference in OT salivary concentration post-OMT: women with painful contractions (p=0.06) and women under 35 years (p=0.09).
The results of this study demonstrate that the effectiveness of OMT-increasing endogenous oxytocin is statistically significant in full-term pregnant women. The sensation of well-being found in most women indicates that there has been a predominantly central rather than peripheral oxytocin release after OMT.
Accurate methods of assessing food intake in infants are needed to assess the relationship between infant feeding practices and risk of childhood obesity. Current methods are either subjective or ...have limited ability for use beyond clinical research settings.
To assess the accuracy of the RFPM to evaluate simulated milk intake including energy, macronutrient, and micronutrient intake compared to direct weighing within a controlled study.
Individuals were recruited to prepare three 2 fl oz, 4 fl oz, 6 fl oz, and 8 fl oz servings of infant formula and to capture photographs at different stages of preparation (dry powdered formula, prepared formula, and liquid waste) using the SmartIntake® application. Gram weights of the bottles were obtained by the RFPM and direct weighing. Using the United States Department of Agriculture National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference, energy, macronutrient, and micronutrient values were generated from gram weights.
Intake of formula prepared from powder measured by the RFPM was equivalent to weighed intake within 7.5% equivalence bounds among all servings and each serving size. The mean difference between methods varied among servings sizes with the RFPM underestimating intake by 1.6 ± 0.4 kcals in 2 fl oz servings, 4.8 ± 0.6 kcals in 4 fl oz servings, and 6.2 ± 1.0 kcals in 6 fl oz servings, and overestimating intake by 0.1 ± 1.2 kcals in 8 fl oz servings. Bland-Altman analysis showed that the RFPM overestimated intake at lower levels food intake and underestimated intake at higher levels. Considering photographs of only the prepared formula bottle and the bottle with formula waste to simulate ready-to-feed formula and human breast milk, intake estimated by the RFPM was equivalent to the directly weighed intake within 7.5% for all servings.
The RFPM has higher accuracy than subjective methods and similar accuracy as compared to the objective methods in estimating simulated intake of milk and formula with lower burden to caregivers. The RFPM is a viable method for measuring intake in exclusively milk fed infants by caregivers in a controlled environment with potential for widespread use in research and clinical practice.
