This acute toxicity study was conducted for ethyl acetate and ethanol (70%v/v) extracts of
as per OECD guidelines. The anti-diabetic activity of selected plant extracts were tested using alloxan-induced diabetes in a rat model.
No mortality was observed in the administered doses of
Span extracts. The tested extracts significantly (p≤0.01) restored the physiologic changes that occurred due to the alloxan-induced diabetes mellitus. The present work was carried out to identify the anti-oxidant and anti-diabetic activities of Aurelia aurita. The chemical profiling analysis showed that it possess different biologically active ...secondary metabolites like phenols, alakoids, steroids etc. The methanolic extract showed different free radical scavenging activity as ascorbic acid with IC50 values 202, 205, 153 µg on DPPH, hydroxyl and superoxide free radicals. The extract significantly reduced the hyperglycemic conditions with percentage of reduction 18.7 ± 1.3 to 53.5 ±1.5 of streptozotocin-induced animals and the positive result of in-vitro aldose reductase enzyme inhibition with IC50 value 163 µg suggests that A. aurita have potential to cure the diabetic complications.

To evaluate the antioxidant and thioacetamide induced liver toxicity using extracts of aerial parts of Balanites roxburghii (B. roxburghii).
The in-vitro antioxidant activity was estimated for ...different extracts on superoxide, hydroxyl and 1,1- diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl free radicals and the hepatoprotective activity of the selected plant extracts was evaluated by using thioacetamide-induced liver intoxication in rats model.
There were no visible signs of toxicity, mortality and no behavioral changes were observed for the selected plant extracts (hydroalcoholic, ethyl acetate and hexane) at 2000 mg/kg body weight. The plant extracts showed dose-dependent effectiveness in the inhibition of free radicals generation and hepatoprotective nature. The hydroalcoholic extract showed more scavenging activity as compared to other extracts with IC50 values of (332.50 ± 1.30) μg, (302.00 ± 1.50) μg and (230.40 ± 1.10) μg on superoxide, hydroxyl and 1,1- diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl free radicals. Aerial parts of B. roxburghii at three dose levels such as 125 mg/kg, 250 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg showed dose dependent percentage protection as standard drugs and on enhancement activities of serum biomarker enzymes (aspartate aminotransferase, alanine transaminase, alkaline phosphatase, total bilirubin and total protein) observed in thioacetamide-induced hepatotoxicity. The hydroalcoholic extract showed significant results at 500 mg/kg body weight as compared to other extracts (P < 0.05) with 65.65%, 62.39%, 59.89%, 55.90% and 54.61% on aspartate aminotransferase, alanine transaminase, alkaline phosphatase, total bilirubin and total protein levels.
It was observed that the B. roxburghii plant extracts are non-toxic and have capacity to restore the physiological changes caused by the hepatotoxic compounds.

Buchanania angustifolia, geleneksel tipta farkli hastaliklarin tedavisinde kullanilmaktadir. Bu calismada, folklorik bilgilere dayanilarak, B. angustifolia bitkisinin toprak ustu kisimlarinin antioksidan ve hepatoprotektif etkilerinin ve fitokimyasal bilesenlerinin belirlenmesi amaclanmistir. Gerec ve Yontemler: B. angustifolia ekstreleri uzerinde yapilan kalitatif fitokimyasal analizler, ekstrelerde steroit, terpenoit, flavonoit, alkaloit, glikozit, tanen, karbonhidrat, yag ve aminoasit yapisindaki bilesiklerin varligini ortaya koymustur. BA-1 ve BA-2 bilesikleri kromatografik teknikler kullanilarak sulu alkollu ekstreden izole edilmis ve linolenik asit ile stigmasterol ve beta-sitosterol karisimi olarak tanimlanmistir. Bulgular: Antioksidan aktivite, superoksit, hidroksil ve 1-(2,6-dimetilfenoksi)-2-(3,4-dimetoksifeniletilamino) propan hidroklorit serbest radikalleri uzerinde gerceklestirilmistir. B. angustifolia ekstreleri, serbest radikallere karsi doz-bagimli aktivite gostermistir. Sulu alkollu ekstrenin daha iyi aktivite gosterdigi belirlenmistir. Ekstreler sicanlarda tiyoasetamid-nedenli karaciger zehirlenmesinde hepatoprotektif etki gostermis ve sulu alkollu ekstre, tiyoasetamid-nedenli karaciger zehirlenmesine bagli olarak degisen biyokimyasal parametreleri anlamli derecede iyilestirmistir. Sonuc: B. angustifolia'nin test edilen ekstreleri arasinda sulu alkollu ekstrenin daha yuksek antioksidan ve hepatoprotektif etkinlik gosterdigi belirlenmistir ve stigmasterol ve beta-sitosterol bilesikleri izole edilmistir. Bu acidan, mevcut calismada, Zornia gibbosa Span'in anti-diyabetik etkinliginin degerlendirilmesi amaclanmistir.Gerec ve Yontemler: Akut toksisite calismasi OECD kilavuzlarina gore Z. gibbosa'nin etil asetat ve etanol (%70 v/v) ekstreleri icin yurutulmustur. Secilen bitki ekstrelerinin anti-diyabetik aktivitesi, sicanlar uzeinde olusturulan alloksan-nedenli diyabet modeli kullanilarak degerlendirilmistir.Bulgular: Zornia gibbosa Span ekstrelerinin uygulanan dozlarinda herhangi bir olum gorulmemistir. Ekstreler, alloksan-nedenli diabetes mellitus nedeniyle olusan fizyolojik degisiklikleri onemli olcude (pless than or equal to0.01) iyilestirmistir. 500 mg/kg konsantrasyonundaki sulu-alkollu ekstreler, standart ilac (glibenklamid) ile birlikte farkli konsantrasyonlardaki diger ekstrelerle karsilastirildiginda, daha yuksek aktivite gostermistir. Z gibbosa glukoz konsantrasyonunu onemli olcude dusurmus ve diyabetin degisik organlara hasar vermesi nedeniyle degisen enzim duzeylerini iyilestirmistir.Sonuc: Bu calismanin sonuclari, Z gibbosa'nin onemli anti-diyabetik etkiye sahip oldugunu gostermektedir.
