ABSTRACT Demarcating soil management zones can be useful, for instance, delimiting homogeneous areas and selecting attributes that are generally correlated with plant productivity, but doing so ...involves several different steps. The objective of this study was to identify the chemical and physical attributes of soil and soybean plants that explain crop productivity, in addition to suggesting and testing a methodological procedure for defining soil management zones. The procedure consisted of six steps: sample collection, data filtering, variable selection, interpolation, grouping, and evaluation of management zones. The samples were collected in an experimental area of 12.5 ha cultivated with soybean during the 2013/14 crop in Dystrophic Red Latosol, in Mato Grosso, Brazil. A total of 117 pairs of plant and soil samples were collected. Student’s t-test was used (α = 0.02) to verify that the number of samples was adequate for correlation analysis. Results showed that only the P and Mn content in the grains explained (based on R2 values) the variation in soybean grain productivity the area. Based on the interpolation of these contents by ordinary kriging, the fuzzy C-means algorithm was used to separate them into groups by similarity. Division into two groups was the best option, which could be differentiated by Mann-Whitney test (P < 0.05), resulting in a map with 10 management zones.
RESUMO Zonas de manejo do solo são usadas, por exemplo, para delimitar áreas homogêneas, selecionando atributos que no geral correlacionam com a produtividade das plantas, mas, defini-las requer diferentes etapas. Objetivou-se neste trabalho identificar atributos químicos e físicos do solo e de plantas de soja que explicaram a produtividade de grãos da cultura e, também, sugerir e testar um procedimento metodológico para definir zonas de manejo do solo. O procedimento consistiu de seis etapas: coleta de amostras, filtragem dos dados, seleção das variáveis, interpolação, agrupamento e avaliação das zonas de manejo. As amostras foram coletadas em uma área experimental de 12,5 ha, cultivada com soja na safra 2013/14, em um Latossolo Vermelho Distrófico, em Mato Grosso, onde foram coletados 117 pares de amostras de plantas e de solo. Utilizando -se o teste de Student (α = 0,02), verificou-se que o número de amostras foi adequado para a análise de correlação. Entretanto, apenas os teores de P e Mn dos grãos explicaram (R2) a variação da produtividade de grãos de soja na área. Com base na interpolação destes teores por krigagem ordinária utilizou-se o algoritmo fuzzy C-means para separá-los em grupos por similaridade, em que a divisão em 2 grupos foi a melhor opção, que diferiram pelo teste de Mann-Whitney (P < 0,05), resultando em um mapa com 10 zonas de manejo.
ABSTRACT Mato Grosso, with a total area of 903357 km², does not have an official methodology for estimating soil potential acidity (H + Al), and determination of H + Al using the standard method is ...onerous and time consuming. The objective of this study was to compare estimated values of H + Al determined using the standard calcium acetate method with those obtained using three buffer methods, namely, the Shoemaker, McLean, and Pratt (SMP) buffer, Sikora buffer, and Santa Maria buffer (SMB) methods, with samples of the main classes of cultivated soils in the state of Mato Grosso. A total of 196 soil samples were collected from the arable layer (0-20 cm) in agropastoral and adjacent native systems. Statistical models were obtained and compared with models used by laboratories that are hypothetically inadequate because there is no calibration for soils in the state. After laboratory analyses, the paired H + Al and equilibrium pH values corresponding to the equilibrium of each buffer solution (SMP buffer, SMB, and Sikora buffer) were subjected to nonlinear regression analysis (P < 0.05). The SMB method, which does not release pollutant residues into the environment, was better than the Sikora and SMP methods for replacing the standard method used in state laboratories for soil analysis, that is, H + Al (cm3 c dm-3) = 51.189 -25.70 ln(pHSMB) (R2 = 0.88, P < 0.0001). Thus, if laboratories use uncalibrated equations to estimate soil potential acidity, the recommended limestone correction will be underestimated or overestimated, which may compromise crop productivity in Mato Grosso.
RESUMO O estado de Mato Grosso, com uma área de 903 357 km², não possui uma metodologia oficial para estimar a acidez potencial do solo (H + Al), e sua determinação pelo método padrão é onerosa e demorada. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar os valores estimados de (H + Al) determinados pelo método padrão de acetato de cálcio com os obtidos por três métodos tampão, a saber, tampão Shoemaker, McLean and Pratt (SMP), tampão Sikora e tampão Santa Maria (SMB), considerando amostras das principais classes de solos cultivados no estado de Mato Grosso. Para isso, 196 amostras de solo foram coletadas na camada arável (0-20 cm) em diferentes sistemas agropastoris e nativos adjacentes. Os modelos estatísticos obtidos foram comparados com modelos hipoteticamente inadequados utilizados pelos laboratórios, pois não há calibração para solos no estado. Após as análises laboratoriais, os pares de valores determinados de H+Al e o pH de equilíbrio corresponde de cada solução tampão foram submetidos a análise de correlação e regressão não-linear (p < 0,05). Verificou-se que o método SMB, que não gera resíduos de poluentes no meio ambiente, foi melhor que os métodos Sikora e SMP para substituir o método padrão, usando a equação H + Al (cm 3 c dm-3) = 51.189-25.70 ln (pHSMB) (R2 = 0,88, P < 0,0001). Assim, se os laboratórios usarem equações não calibradas para estimar a acidez potencial do solo, isso implica subestimar ou superestimar a recomendação de calcário, o que pode comprometer a produtividade das culturas no Mato Grosso.

Os solos brasileiros, no geral, são muito intemperizados devido ao clima predominantemente tropical, resultando em elevada acidez, baixa saturação de bases e teores de fósforo limitantes. Sabe-se que ...a calagem e a fosfatagem melhoram as condições químicas do solo e a produtividade de forragem, mas se aplicados juntos no preparo do solo, a disponibilidade do fósforo às plantas tende a reduzir, sobretudo, fosfatos de maior solubilidade. Diante disso, como teores adequados de fósforo são essenciais no desenvolvimento inicial das raízes, objetivou-se avaliar o resultado da aplicação simultânea e espaçada no tempo do fosfato natural reativo de Bayovar de baixa solubilidade com a calagem, comparado ao fosfato monoamônico de maior solubilidade na produção do capim BRS Zuri. Verificou-se que a combinação dos fosfatos com calcário não apenas aumentou a altura das plantas e a matéria orgânica no primeiro ano como, também aumentou significativamente a produtividades de matéria verde e seca e de fibra em detergente ácido. A diferença é que o efeito do Bayovar é mais pronunciado no segundo ano, evidenciando sua importância como adubação de manutenção do capim BRS Zuri, comparado ao fosfato monoamônico que teve maior efeito no primeiro ano, destacando sua influência no arranque inicial. Portanto, recomenda-se a combinação de fontes de fosfatos com disponibilidade diferenciada, visando melhorar a qualidade química do solo para atingir maiores produtividades do capim BRS Zuri.
In 2014, the Upper Paraguay River Basin (UPB) plateau in Brazil maintained only 39.5% of its native vegetation cover, most of which was located in riparian zones that were generally degraded, in ...legal reserve areas, or in regions without agricultural potential. Due to the lack of practical results in the region, so that farmers could base their projects for the recovery of degraded areas, this work was designed to determine the long-term result of three revegetation techniques and their contributions to soil attributes and vegetative parameters, in the riparian zone of a watershed in the municipality of Campo Verde, located in the UPB. It was found that in only seven years, the technique of distributing a mixture of seeds rich in nitrogen-fixing plant species with washed sand and composted cotton tow, followed by incorporation with light harrowing, favored a rapid establishment of native plants. In this case, the number of species and the floristic diversity was the closest to those of the Tropical Cerrado, i.e., the control. In this technique, Brachiaria brizantha was not dominant, and the mean of total organic carbon storage in the soil (TOCS) was significantly lower, thereby indicating that riparian zones with higher TOCS do not necessarily have greater plant diversity. Therefore, the competition caused by B. brizantha can affect ecological diversity in areas undergoing ecological succession.
O uso sustentável do solo constitui-se numa preocupação crescente em função dos diversos manejos e usos agrícolas inapropriados. Apesar da expansão do conhecimento científico na área de solos ...verifica-se que o uso de indicadores, que estimam sua qualidade, de maneira independente não permite uma adequada avaliação para posterior diagnóstico de desequilíbrios em sistemas de produção. Diante disso, objetivou-se diagnosticar alterações sobre importantes indicadores físicos e microbiológicos em um Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo distrófico sob pastagem extensiva e vegetação nativa sob condições pantaneiras. Os resultados indicaram degradações físico-microbiológicas significativas no ambiente antropizado com reduções médias nos indicadores de 51,62%; 10,30%; 16,36%; para carbono microbiano, respiração basal, percentagem de agregados via úmida, respectivamente; e aumentos para a densidade do solo, resistência mecânica do solo à penetração, quociente metabólico de 184,68%; 142,18%; 88,31%, respectivamente. Com a inserção desses resultados em um Qualigrama permitiu-se obter um índice quantitativo da qualidade do solo sob a pastagem extensiva igual a -0,0814. Com base neste índice qualificou-se a sustentabilidade do manejo acumulativo sobre a pastagem como um "sistema em colapso" em comparação ao ambiente nativo.
Much of dry matter accumulation by plants comes from photosynthesis in the leaves. Therefore, analysis of leaf growth is useful for plant study under different climatic and soil conditions. Leaf area ...can be estimated with different methods and equipments, some of which are costly and time consuming, ineffective for common research conditions. However, there can be alternatives, economic and fast, through the use of imaging software, free or licensed. Thus, we aimed to estimate the area of the leaf blade of different plants based on linear and dry weight measures, calibrated with the free software ImageJ. The leaves of cotton plants (Gossypium hirsutum L) var. IMACD 6001, cashew (Anacardium occidental L) var. FAGA 10, soybean (Glycine max L) var. M-SOY 7639RR, and corn (Zea mays L) var. Penta TL were collected from the lower third, middle and top in different phenological phases. It was found that images with a resolution of at least 7.2 megapixels can be used to estimate the actual leaf blade area, processed with the ImageJ software till 324cm.sup.2. For larger surfaces, we recommend testing with higher resolution camera, or cut a large sheet into pieces up to 324cm.sup.2. We observed a good agreement in the estimation of the leaf blade area based on linear and dry mass measures and, therefore, it is recommended to estimate leaf area leaves with damaged pieces or measures from several samples of leaves collected at the field based on the dry weight of the leaves, as it is operationally viable.

The evaluation of land use and management by the measurement of soil organic matter and its fractions has gained attention since it helps in the understanding of the dynamics of their contribution to ...soil productivity, especially in tropical environments. This study was conducted in the municipality of Colorado do Oeste, state of Rondônia, Brazil and its aim was to determinethe quantity of organic carbon and total nitrogen in the light and heavy fractions of organic matter in the surface layers of a typic hapludalf under different land use systems: Native Forest: open evergreen forest, reference environment; Agroforestry System 1: teak (Tectona grandis LF) and kudzu (Pueraria montana); Agroforestry System 2: coffee (Coffea canephora), marandu palisade grass (Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu), “pinho cuiabano” (Parkia multijuga), teak and kudzu.; Agroforestry System 3: teak and cocoa (Theobroma cacao); Silvopasture System: teak, cocoa and marandu palisade grass; and Extensive Grazing System: marandu palisade grass. The experimental design was a randomized block in split-split plots (use systems versus soil layers of 0-0.05 and 0.05-0.10 m) with three replications. The results showed that relative to Native Forest, the Agroforestry System 2 had equal- and greater amounts of organic carbon and total nitrogen respectively (light and heavy fractions) in the soil organic matter, with the light fraction being responsible for storage of approximately 45% and 70% of the organic carbon and total nitrogen, respectively. Therefore, the light densimetric fraction proved to be useful in the early identification of the general decline of the soil organic matter in the land use systems evaluated.

O objetivo neste trabalho foi identificar as temperaturas basais e a exigência térmica para completar o processo de maturação de frutos de três clones de cajueiro-anão: FAGA 1, FAGA 10 e FAGA 11. ...Entre agosto e novembro de 2010, abril e novembro de 2011 e abril e agosto de 2012, em função da disponibilidade foram marcados semanal e aleatoriamente até dez frutos e pseudofrutos por clone, medidos e classificados quanto ao estádio de maturação até amadurecerem. Após obter os períodos de maturação, foram determinadas as temperaturas basais para cada clone utilizando o método do menor coeficiente de variação para a soma térmica (ST) e para as unidades fototérmicas (UF) acumuladas nos períodos. Verificou-se que o número de dias necessários para completar a maturação dos cajus foi menor nos meses com temperatura média do ar acima de 28 ºC e que as aproximações utilizando os métodos da ST foram mais úteis na previsão do tempo fisiológico necessário para completar a maturação do fruto do que a contagem do tempo cronológico em dias. As temperaturas basais inferiores determinadas pelo método da ST são iguais a 15,2; 13,8 e 10,0 ºC para FAGA 1, FAGA 10 e FAGA 11, respectivamente enquanto suas exigências térmicas foram de 437,3; 493,8 e 639,0 ºC dia. Devido o fotoperíodo não ter influenciado no tempo de maturação dos cajus, o método das unidades fototérmicas não foi ajustado.
