This paper presents a methodology to transpose a physical game into digital and an application to a case study. The case study applied the methodology to teaching and learning for a Data Structures ...course. The data structures studied involved concepts of stacks, queues, and linked lists. One of the main goals of this research is to confirm that digitalization helps working-class students to learn even having less time to study and experiment. We chose two different private university courses in computer science and computer engineering to take part in this research. The students developed a digital version of a traditional card game. The research bolsters the idea of first understanding the actual game concepts by analyzing and manipulating a physical card game. Using these concepts, students apply their results to examine the data structures perceived in the card game. Later, students develop the same card game using a conventional algorithm. Afterward, the development takes place in the virtual environment, using the Java programming language - we inherited the choice for Java from top hierarchies. We developed the method for transposing the physical game to a digital version before applying this case study. Using this method, students could work and understand each of the data structures concepts. In the end, each student extrapolated its applicability, trying to solve society's problems. As a bonus, students also researched strategies for logical reasoning and critical thinking. Both are necessary for card game resolution and personal and professional development. The results presented show that the students who learned data structures developing this method were able to apply the concepts in the course's evaluations, in their work, in their homes, in their daily lives, and their personal lives. Some students' self-motivation led them to change their social position such that they found themselves improving their quality of life and those around them.

This work aims at discussing the roles that hypermedia codes, such as selfies, emoji and likes, have played as representations and readings of self and other in the digital age, and how the school ...has behaved on this new outlook in dealing with volatile information and communication. The roads previously experienced by unilineal paths give way to the establishment of misshapen interconnective roads surrounding cyberspace and become unstable records of us and the reading we make of another person, constantly re-enacted by new records and, consequently, for new readings. Ubiquity, mediated mainly by mobile devices – mobile phones, smartphones and tablets –, provides this constant updating and metamorphoses, uninterruptedly, our representation in cyberspace. In this framework, the school is challenged to think about how to deal with these new perspectives of reading, since this is a reality brought by the student to the field of formal education. Therefore, we use the literature and took as a basis some theorists such as Santaella (2004; 2007; 2013), Hall (2006), Lévy (1994), Malini & Antoun (2013), among others, to bring to the discussion concepts of liquid identities, volatile representations, information and communication technologies and education.
This study aimed to examine whether Sjögren syndrome (SS) is related to periodontal status.
A systematic review was performed on the basis of PRISMA (PROSPERO: CRD42017055202). A search was performed ...in the PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, Web of Science, and Science Direct databases. Hand searches and review of the gray literature were also performed. Three researchers independently selected studies, extracted data, and assessed methodologic quality. Studies that correlated primary and/or secondary SS with plaque index, gingival index, probing depth, and bleeding on probing were included. The risk of bias was estimated on the basis of the Newcastle-Ottawa scale.
Seventeen studies were included in the review and 9 included in the meta-analysis, with a total of 518 and 544 patients, with or without SS, respectively. The mean difference of plaque index (0.29; 95% confidence interval CI 0.17-0.41), gingival index (0.52; 95% CI 0.14-0.89), and bleeding on probing (9.92; 95% CI 4.37-15.47) were larger in patients with SS than in controls. In primary SS (0.47; 95% CI 0.10-0.83) and secondary SS (0.74; 95% CI 0.10-1.38), only the mean gingival index was larger compared with that in control group. The majority of the included studies were judged as having a high risk of bias.
The present review did not provide strong evidence that periodontal status is affected by SS.

There is a disproportionate burden and severity of heart failure (HF) among black patients (pts) who may be less responsive to treatment with an ACEi/ARB than other racial/ethnic groups. How black ...pts with HF respond to sacubitril/valsartan (S/V), an angiotensin receptor neprilysin inhibitor, has not been fully explored.
The PIONEER-HF trial was a prospective, multicenter, double-blind, active-controlled, randomized trial which enrolled 881 pts at 129 sites in the United States. Pts with or without a history of prior HF and an EF ≤40% and an NT-proBNP ≥1600 pg/mL or BNP ≥400 pg/mL were eligible for participation no earlier than 24 hours and after hemodynamic stabilization while hospitalized for acute decompensated HF (ADHF). Pts were randomly assigned 1:1 to in-hospital initiation of S/V (N = 440) vs. enalapril (E, N = 441) for 8 weeks. We performed a pre-specified subgroup analysis by self-reported race (i.e., black vs. other).
The study population was 316 (35.9%) black, 515 (58.5%) white, and 50 (5.7%) other. Black pts (Ratio of change ROC 0.72, 95% CI 0.57-0.89) experienced a similar improvement in NT-proBNP with S/V vs. E compared to white pts (ROC 0.68, 95% CI 0.58-0.80; p-value for interaction = 0.13). There was no statistical interaction between race and the effect of S/V on the composite of CV death or rehospitalization for HF (black: HR 0.47, 95% CI 0.24-0.94 vs. white: HR 0.60, 95% CI 0.35-1.01) (Figure). The incidence of worsening renal function, hyperkalemia, and symptomatic hypotension was comparable with S/V vs. E regardless of race. There was one confirmed angioedema event in the S/V arm (in a white pt), while there were six in the enalapril arm (all in black pts) (p-value = NS).
Among black pts admitted for ADHF, in-hospital initiation of S/V resulted in a greater reduction in natriuretic peptide levels, was safe and well-tolerated, and led to a significant improvement in clinical outcomes compared to enalapril. The effect of S/V vs. E on these outcomes did not differ by race. No angioedema event with S/V was observed in a black patient.

Gekkonid field studies are hampered by the difficulty to individually recognize individuals. In this study we assess the feasibility of using their variegated iris pattern to photo-identify Tarentola ...boettgeri bischoffi, a threatened Macaronesian endemic. Using a library of 924 photos taken over a 9-month period we also evaluate the use of the pattern matching software Interactive Individual Identification System (I3S) to match photos of known specimens. Individuals were clearly recognized by their iris pattern with no misidentifications, and using I3S lead to a correct identification of 95% of the recaptures in a shorter time than the same process when conducted visually by an observer. The method's feasibility was improved by increasing the number of images of each animal in the library and hindered by photos that deviate from a horizontal angle.

Two new Colombian species of Quindina Roewer, 1915 are here described based on genital morphology and external characters. Quindina hermesi sp. nov. (type locality: Bolívar, San Jacinto) can be ...diagnosed externally by having a combination of colored tubercles on the ocularium, the anterior margin, areas I, II and IV of the dorsal scutum, and the free tergites; Q. discolor sp. nov. (type locality: Magdalena, Ciénaga) shows a different combination of colored tubercles on the ocularium and lateral margins. Phylogenetic analyses were performed by adding both new species to an existing matrix for Nomoclastidae. The analyses resulted in various topologies for the relationships among Nomoclastes Sørensen, 1932, Napostygnus Roewer, 1929, Kichua Pinto-da-Rocha Bragagnolo, 2017, Callcosma Roewer, 1932 and Quindina Roewer, 1914, but all analyses recovered the monophyly of Callcosma and Quindina. This constitutes the first record of the family in northern Colombia.
Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPEs) are one of the multidrug-resistant microorganisms of greatest public health concern because they are a major cause of nosocomial infections, leading to higher costs, hospital stays, and increased mortality. This problem is increasingly frequent in the pediatric population with mortality rates due to associated infections of up to 50%. With this paper we would like to present and describe our experience in the implementation of a CLD detection and control program in our PICU.
A system of detection and screening through a search policy that defines the groups at risk and detects patients at risk of colonization by CLD, makes timely isolation of patients colonized with positive CLD and patients considered at risk of colonization pending the results of the culture, finally the control and monitoring of patients colonized by CLD.
During the period from 2017 - 2020, 1548 patients were admitted to the PICU of the Hospital Universitario Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá and it was determined that 6.1% of these met at least one risk factor for colonization by CLD; consequently, 95 screenings were performed in 4 years. At the end of the period studied, a cumulative incidence of CLD colonization of 18.94% was obtained among patients with risk factors.
We cannot analyze the factors associated with survival or find a significantly lower or higher survival rate by age; but at the end of follow-up we can affirm that this active surveillance strategy favors the rapid stratification of patient risk and the timely initiation of adequate antimicrobial therapy in early stages of infection. Also, timely and targeted treatment has been shown to improve clinical outcomes in high-risk patient populations, including patients with hematologic pathologies, and allows the development of personalized sepsis care plans.
Biodiversity conservation is a world challenge that needs attention and efficient strategies for its success. Modeling of geographic distributions of species is used in assorted applications related ...to biodiversity conservation. Maximum entropy (maxent) is a technique recently applied to modeling of geographic distributions of species and is being largely used by biologists. The aim is to evaluate different viewpoints of this technique. The first evaluation is concerned with the performance of the algorithm. A parallel version of the maxent-based algorithm available in openModeller is presented. openModeller is a set of tools provided for researchers interested in modeling of geographic distributions of species. The second evaluation is focused on tuning the regularization parameter, since it can severely affect the performance of the algorithm and can take a long time to be adjusted. In addition, the algorithm was evaluated without the use of a regularization parameter and with an adaptive maximum entropy approach. This approach was evaluated as a replacement of the regularization parameter. The validation of the assessments was based on a dataset with 20 species. The results show: an improvement in the algorithm performance using parallelism, considering only the running time; the regularization parameter does not depend on the number of samples, or on the number of iterations in training; species with the same number of samples fit better with different values of the regularization parameter (different magnitude order); the adaptive approach cannot replace the regularization parameter.

—Because of the limited energy of wireless sensor nodes, the energy loss of communication process affects network performance. In order to prolong the network lifetime and combine the fast ergodicity ...of the quantum particle swarm, this paper proposes a wireless network routing optimization method to improve the quantum particle swarm, aiming at the leach problem of the wireless sensor network WSN Classic Clustering protocol. The optimal routing speed is accelerated, and the optimal routing and energy consumption of the network are balanced as far as possible, and adjust the parameters of the cluster head election threshold to obtain the most suitable clustering structure for the current environment adaptively, so as to balance the network energy consumption and improve the network life. The experimental results show that compared with the LEACH-EP protocol, GA and PSO, the proposed protocol has better performance in network lifetime and network latency.
