Background
This study was designed to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of metallic clips assisted with foreign body forceps closing the gastric wall defect after endoscopic full-thickness ...resection (EFR) for gastric submucosal tumors (SMTs).
Methods
Eighteen patients with gastric SMTs originated from the muscularis propria were treated by EFR between September 2012 and June 2014. Twelve patients underwent endoscopic closure of the gastric wall defects after EFR with endoloop and metallic clips (endoloop string suture method, ESSM), and six patients with clips and foreign body forceps (clips assisted with foreign body forceps clip method, CFCM).
Results
No significant differences existed between the two groups in terms of demographics, clinical characteristics, and the size of the gastric wall defects. The average time spent in closing the gastric wall defects (14.83 ± 1.94 min for the CFCM group and 22.42 ± 5.73 min for the ESSM group) and hospitalization fees of the CFCM group were significantly lower than those of the ESSM group. The average hospitalization time of the two groups had no statistical significance. No single case had surgical intervention or complications, such as gastric bleeding, perforation, peritonitis, or abdominal abscess.
Conclusion
The CFCM and the ESSM are safe and effective techniques for gastric defect closure after EFR for gastric SMTs. Because of the “chopsticks effect,” the CFCM more suitable for the lesions located at the gastric fundus, the greater curvature or anterior wall of the gastric body and gastric antrum.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection is associated with strong infectiousness and has no effective therapy. We aimed to explore the efficacy and safety of
nebulization in the ...treatment of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, we included 31 adult patients with moderate COVID-19 who were admitted to the Fourth People's Hospital of Nanning (Nanning, China) between January 22, 2020 and February 17, 2020. Patients were randomly divided into two groups: group A (standard care group) and group B (
in combination with standard care group). The primary outcome was the time interval from admission to viral RNA negative conversion (oropharyngeal swabs were used in this study). Secondary outcomes included chest computed tomography (CT), mortality, length of hospital stay, complications during treatment, and so on. Patients were followed up to 4 weeks after discharge (reexamination of viral RNA, chest CT, etc.).
Nucleic acid test negative conversion time in group B was shorter than that in group A (2.9 days 2.7-8.7 vs. 6.8 days 3.3-13.8;
= 0.045). No death and no conversion to severe or critical cases were observed in both groups. Two weeks after discharge, neither "relapse" nor "return to positive" cases were found. Four weeks after discharge, it was found that there was no case of " relapse " or "return to positive" in group B, and 1 patient in group A showed "return to positive", but there was no clinical manifestation and imaging progression. No adverse reactions related to
were found during observation period.
treatment might shorten the time interval from admission to viral RNA negative conversion, which might be beneficial to the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.

Background
As lung impairment is an indicator of increased morbidity and mortality in patients receiving continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD), the risk factors associated with impaired ...lung function are of great significance. The aim of this study is to elucidate the effects of inflammatory biomarkers and dialysis adequacy on pulmonary function, in CAPD patients.
Methods
101 patients undergoing CAPD, 30 CKD5 patients and 30 healthy subjects were enrolled. Spirometry and serum biomarkers were evaluated in each subject. Pulmonary function was compared among patients and control groups. Pearson analysis was used to analyze the correlation between serum biomarkers, dialysis adequacy and pulmonary function.
Results
Lower vital capacity, maximal voluntary ventilation (MVV), forced vital capacity (FVC), peak expiratory flow (PEF), maximal mid-expiratory flow rate (MMEF), and diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (DLCO) were observed in the CAPD group (all
P
< 0.05) when compared with control subjects. DLCO % was negatively correlated with CRP (
r
= −0.349,
P
= 0.007) and positively correlated with albumin (
r
= 0.401,
P
= 0.002). Total Kt/V was associated positively with MMEF % (
r
= 0.316,
P
= 0.019), and MVV % (
r
= 0.362,
P
= 0.007). nPNA was positively correlated with FVC % (
r
= 0.295,
P
= 0.049) and MMEF % (
r
= 0.381,
P
= 0.010).
Conclusion
The results suggest that lung function decline was directly related to higher CRP level, hypoalbuminemia, and dialysis inadequacy. These findings provide the evidence that inflammation and dialysis adequacy play a role in predicting outcomes of CAPD patients with pulmonary impairment.

Objective The objective of this study was to investigate the efficacy of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) in the treatment of arthritis. Methods Mesenchymal stem cells were injected intravenously into ...mice with collagen-induced arthritis (CIA). Arthritic indexes were evaluated, and the levels of the pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-10 (IL-10), gamma interferon (IFN-γ)-inducible protein 10 (IP-10), chemokine (C-X-C motif) receptor 3 (CXCR3), interleukin-17A (IL-17A), and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) in serum or splenic cells were determined using real-time RT-PCR, Western blotting, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The proliferation of dendritic cell line D2SC cells was determined using ³H-TdR incorporation assay. Results Upon injection of MSCs, overall arthritis symptoms were significantly improved in the CIA mouse models as indicated by the paw edema. Consistent with this observation, serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF-α and inflammatory cell infiltration decreased significantly 12 days after MSC injection, while the expression of anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-10, IP-10, and CXCR3 was increased in splenocytes. In addition, we provided evidence that MSCs may directly promote the proliferation of D2SC cells and the expression of IP-10 in D2SC cells in vitro. Conclusion Mesenchymal stem cells significantly enhance the efficacy of collagen-induced arthritis treatment, likely through the modulation of the expression of various cytokines.

•As graphene analogues, 2D monoelemental materials composed of elements from the group-IIIA to the group-VIA have rich and unique electronic and optical properties similar to and ...different from graphene.•As a method that is easy to be introduced experimentally, defect doping is also used to effectively regulate the electronic and optical properties of the system in the simulation calculation of materials.•Intrinsic defects as an inevitable means in the process of experiment and external defects as an artificial controllable control means, all of them have significant influence on the properties of single element two-dimensional materials, whether these systems are based on experimental or theoretical calculations.•Defective 2D Xenes materials excellent optoelectronic properties, so they have profound applications in optoelectronic devices, energy storage and conversion and catalysis. They are also expected to play positive and important role in many other fields.
From the group-IIIA (borophene), to the group-IVA (silicene, germanene and stanine), as well as the group-VA (phosphorene, arsenene, antimonene and bismuthene) and even the group-VIA (selenene and tellurene nanosheets), these two-dimensional (2D) monoelemental materials are highly similar to graphene in lattice structure, and they can also be collectively referred to as Xenes. However, the unique specific atomic arrangement of these materials gives rise to a vast diversity of properties, and these single element 2D materials as graphene analogues are the most chemically tractable materials for synthetic exploration, thus attracting widespread attention and research. Intrinsic defects, as an defects inevitably introduced in the of experimental preparation, and extrinsic defects, as an artificially introduced and controllable way, both of them can effectively improve the environmental stability of single element materials and regulate the properties of Xenes. Herein, a review of the historical work about the properties and application of defective 2D monoelemental materials is presented. Based on the structure and properties of original single element 2D materials, the change of electronic and optoelectronic properties of these materials from different main groups under the action of different defects are classified and compared. In addition, the existing methods of realizing defects of 2D Xenes-based materials are summarized, and the application of the defects engineering in the field of optoelectronic devices, energy storage and conversion, catalysts as well are also comprehensively searched and reviewed. Finally, this review provides the prospect and challenge for the preparation and application of defective 2D monoelemental materials on the basis of the current research and development.

In this work, we designed and synthesized a series of amide derivatives (1-13), benzoxazine derivatives (16-28) and amino derivatives (29-30) from xyloketal B. All 28 new derivatives and seven known ...compounds (14, 15, 31-35) were evaluated for their protection against H2O2-induced HUVEC injury. 23 and 24 exhibited more potential protective activities than other derivatives; and the EC50 values of them and the leading compound 31 (xyloketal B) were 5.10, 3.59 and 15.97 μM, respectively. Meanwhile, a comparative molecular similarity indices analysis (CoMSIA) was constructed to explain the structural activity relationship of these xyloketal derivatives. This 3D QSAR model from CoMSIA suggested that the derived model exhibited good predictive ability in the external test-set validation. Derivative 24 fit well with the COMSIA map, therefore it possessed the highest activity of all compounds. Compounds 23, 24 and 31 (xyloketal B) were further to examine in the JC-1 mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) assay of HUVECs using flow cytometry (FCM). The result indicated that 23 and 24 significantly inhibited H2O2-induced decrease of the cell mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm) at 25 μM. Collectively, the protective effects of xyloketals on H2O2-induced endothelial cells may be generated from oxidation action by restraining ROS and reducing the MMP.
Oridonin, which is an ent-kaurene diterpenoid isolated from traditional Chinese medicine Rabdosia rubescens, displays various bioactivities, including anti-inflammation, anti-bacteria and anti-tumor. ...This study aimed to investigate the effect of oridonin on apoptosis of triple-negative breast cancer MDA-MB-231 cells and its underlying mechanisms. The inhibitory effect of oridonin on proliferation of MDA-MB-231 cells was measured by MTT assay; Apoptosis was analyzed by flow cytometry with PI staining and Annexin V-FITC/PI staining; Intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) level was determined by ROS detection kit, and expressions of PARP, Bcl-2, caspase-3 were analyzed by Western blot. The results showed that oridonin exhibited a significant effect in inducing apoptosis of MDA-MB-231 cells, enhancing intracellular ROS level, down-regulating expression of Bcl-2 protein, and promoting cleavage of caspase-3 and its substrate PARP. These results indicated that the apoptosis-inducing effect of oridonin on MDA-MB-231 cells might be correlated with increase of intracellular ROS level, down-regulation of Bcl-2 protein and activation of caspase-3.
