Resumo: Neste artigo, abordamos a relação sujeito-língua no âmbito da educação linguística (Simões, 2006 ) e de políticas de ensino escolar de língua portuguesa no Brasil (Rajagopalan, 2013 ). ...Partindo de Bakhtin ( 1997 , 2010a , 2010b , 2015 ) e Volóchinov ( 2017 ), realizamos um diálogo teórico, sob o princípio de pesquisa interdisciplinar na Linguística Aplicada mestiça e ideológica (Moita Lopes, 2006 , 2013 ), com o objetivo de problematizar questões políticas e culturais em torno de língua e educação linguística (Rajagopalan, 2013 ; Simões, 2006 ; Bagno; Rangel, 2005 ; Guimarães, 2002 ). Tomamos para análise políticas de ensino de português, particularmente aquelas que se instituem no processo de escolarização do campo jornalístico: a Lei 5.692/1971, os PCN (Brasil, 1998 ) e a BNCC (Brasil, 2018 ).
This paper assesses the digital divide between and within the 28 member-states of the European Union. The analysis comprised four socio-demographic contexts: age, education, gender, and income. ...Because of the digital divide’s complexity, a multivariate approach was applied - factor analysis with oblique rotation, which resulted in two distinct dimensions: e-Services and Social Networks. To test the significant differences of European Union positioning and European Union disparities, Multivariate Analysis of Variance and Squared Rank Test were computed. Findings show that e-Services adoption is influenced primarily by the education level of individuals, while Social Networks adoption is more affected by individuals’ age.

Alpha-Synuclein (aSyn) misfolding and aggregation is common in several neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies, which are known as synucleinopathies. ...Accumulating evidence suggests that secretion and cell-to-cell trafficking of pathological forms of aSyn may explain the typical patterns of disease progression. However, the molecular mechanisms controlling aSyn aggregation and spreading of pathology are still elusive. In order to obtain unbiased information about the molecular regulators of aSyn oligomerization, we performed a microscopy-based large-scale RNAi screen in living cells. Interestingly, we identified nine Rab GTPase and kinase genes that modulated aSyn aggregation, toxicity and levels. From those, Rab8b, Rab11a, Rab13 and Slp5 were able to promote the clearance of aSyn inclusions and rescue aSyn induced toxicity. Furthermore, we found that endocytic recycling and secretion of aSyn was enhanced upon Rab11a and Rab13 expression in cells accumulating aSyn inclusions. Overall, our study resulted in the identification of new molecular players involved in the aggregation, toxicity, and secretion of aSyn, opening novel avenues for our understanding of the molecular basis of synucleinopathies.

The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively affected the mental health of the general population, and for healthcare workers (HCWs) it has been no different. Religiosity and spirituality are known coping ...strategies for mental illnesses, especially in stressful times. This study aimed to describe the role of spiritual-religious coping regarding fear and anxiety in relation to COVID-19 in HCWs in Portugal. A cross-sectional quantitative online survey was performed. Socio-demographic and health data were collected as well as the Duke University Religion Index, Spirituality Scale, Fear of COVID-19 Scale, and Coronavirus Anxiety Scale. Two hundred and twenty-two HCWs participated in the study, 74.3% were female and 81.1% were physicians. The median age was 37 years (Q1, Q3: 31, 51.3). Religiosity was neither a significant factor for coronavirus-related anxiety nor it was for fear of COVID-19. Participants with higher levels in the hope/optimism dimension of the Spirituality Scale showed less coronavirus-related anxiety. Female HCWs, non-physicians, and the ones with a previous history of anxiety presented higher levels of fear and/or anxiety related to COVID-19. HCWs' levels of distress should be identified and reduced, so their work is not impaired.
Liquid water at temperatures above the boiling point and high pressures, also known as pressurized hot water, or subcritical water (SBCW), is an effective solvent for both polar and nonpolar organic ...solutes. This is often associated with the decrease of water’s dielectric constant at high temperatures, apparently allowing water to behave like an organic solvent. The decrease of the solubility at high pressures, in turn, is explained by a mild increase of the dielectric constant of water. Nevertheless, the relationship among the dielectric constant of water, hydration, and the solubilities of polar and nonpolar molecules in SBCW remains poorly understood. Here, we study, through molecular dynamics, the hydration thermodynamic parameters and the solubility of nonpolar and polar aromatic model systems, for which a solubility increase in SBCW is observed. We show that the temperature dependence of the hydration free energy of the model nonpolar aromatic solutes is nonmonotonic, exhibiting a solute size independent maximum at ∼475 K, above which hydration becomes entropically favorable and enthalpically unfavorable. The monotonic increase of the solubility, separated here in hydration and vaporization or sublimation components of the pure liquid or solid solute, respectively, is, in turn, related to the temperature increase of the latter, and only to a minor extent with the decrease of the hydration free energy above ∼475 K, via the hydration entropy. A solubility increase or decrease is also found at high pressures for different solutes, explained by the relative magnitude of the hydration and the vaporization or sublimation components of the solubility. For the model solid polar system studied, the hydration free energy increases monotonically with the temperature, instead, and the solubility increase is caused by the decrease of the sublimation component of the solubility. Thus, despite the observed increase of the hydration free energy with pressure, related to the entropic component decrease, our results indicate that the dielectric constant plays no significant role on the solubility increase of nonpolar and polar solutes in SBCW, opposite to the dielectric constant picture. The structure of water next to the solutes is also investigated, and a structural enhancement at room temperature is observed, resulting in significantly stronger pair interactions between a water molecule and its third and fourth nearest water neighbors. This structural and energetic enhancement nearly vanishes, however, at high temperatures, contributing to a positive hydration entropy.

LL37 is a cathelicidin-derived antimicrobial peptide (AMP) with a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity and wound-healing potential. The enhancement of these characteristics was recently ...demonstrated for a cysteine (CYS)-modified cathelicidin-derived LL37-SH conjugated with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). Considering the potential of this peptide, we hereby report a computational study in which well-tempered metadynamics was applied to unveil the interaction of LL37-SH and LL37 with a AuNP with atomistic detail. A structural analysis combined with the free energy surface (FES) characterization allowed the assessment of the role of CYS residue during the formation of the conjugate, as well as to understand how the AuNP improves the antimicrobial activity of the peptide. It was found that CYS promotes a lower conformational entropy (before and after adsorption onto the AuNP) and a faster adsorption process when compared to the LL37 without CYS. The FES for LL37-SH is characterized by one global minimum, while for LL37 a potential metastable state was found. The presence of the AuNP leads to an elongation of the peptides along with the adsorption, which translates into the increase of the solvent-accessible surface area. This elongation combined with the greater availability of positively charged residues upon adsorption rationalizes the observed enhancement of the activity of the LL37-SH/AuNP conjugate.

Molecular simulation has become an integral and invaluable part of Chemical Product Engineering, as it provides fundamental and indispensable insights for a rational product design. Silica aerogels ...are materials with exceptional properties and correspondingly broad applications whose study has benefited from this new paradigm. The complex physical/chemical phenomena involved in their synthesis are hard to explain with experimental data alone. This document reviews relevant atomistic studies regarding silica aerogels, highlighting their contributions to the understanding of the microscopic phenomena inherent to the sol–gel process. Quantum mechanics calculations have provided a framework for investigating the mechanisms, energetics, and products of silica precursor hydrolysis and condensation reactions. Classical molecular dynamics simulations have proven to be suitable for modeling the nanoscale porous network structure of the aerogels, allowing the reliable estimation of structural, mechanical, thermal, and surface properties. Coarse graining models have allowed the extension of these studies to the mesoscale.

Recent studies have highlighted the importance of social media brand communities to brand loyalty. This paper aims to stress the role of the brand in that relationship, suggesting a conceptual model ...in mass-market products in which consumers’ engagement in social media brand communities, brand identity, and consumer-brand identification are related to brand outcomes, such as trust and loyalty. A qualitative analysis was conducted, through in-depth interviews with experts and focus group discussions with consumers, so as to evaluate their experience with brands on social media. The findings indicated that in mass-markets, consumers engaged in social media brand communities may develop positive attitudes towards the brand, such as trust and loyalty, and that consumer-brand identification may have a fundamental role in transforming consumer-brand community interactions into consumer-brand relationships.

With the prevalence of social media, a great deal of research has examined consumer engagement in social media brand communities. However, we lack a holistic understanding of the phenomena. Given the ...importance and relevance of this topic to Information Systems researchers, this study aims to summarise the current state of research on the topic and identify research gaps. Following the descriptive search approach, this study identifies and analyses 134 articles. Our analysis shows that prior studies adopted various research approaches and methods to study consumer engagement in social media brand communities. In addition, researchers adopted varied definitions and studied consumer engagement using the attitudinal, behavioural, and motivational dimensions. Our analysis also shows that Uses and Gratifications Theory and Social Identification Theory were the most referred theories in prior studies. Finally, we conclude our study by proposing an integrative framework and suggesting research opportunities and future research directions.

Decision makers must keep in mind that water services have an invaluable 'price' for the public budget and society's welfare. However, due to the specific features of the service, water utilities are ...prone to inefficiency. Thus, performance evaluation becomes indispensable to face this constraint. Besides the application of the traditional technique of Data Envelopment Analysis to evaluate the performance of Portuguese water utilities, this study also implements the robust technique of order-m to assess the influence of operational environment on water utilities' performance. In spite of several reforms, the Portuguese water sector still reveals significant levels of inefficiency, partially caused by an inappropriate operating scale. Concerning the operational environment, it was possible to observe a positive influence of private sector participation, economies of scope, and groundwater sources on efficiency. The influence of the 'quality of service provided' was also studied in this performance analysis.
