Many fragile watermarking schemes for image authentication have been proposed to protect the integrity of digital images. However, these schemes still yielded unsatisfactory image quality of the ...watermarked images and low accuracy of tamper detection. In this paper, we propose a new, fragile watermarking scheme for image authentication based on the combination of discrete wavelets transform (DWT), singular value decomposition (SVD), and discrete cosines transform (DCT) algorithms. The feature coefficients are extracted and are used to embed the authentication code by using the quantization index modulation (QIM) process. To guarantee that the extracted authentication code is correct, the Gram-Schmidt process is used to adjust the feature coefficients. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed scheme provides good quality watermarked images and achieves high accuracy of tamper detection under different attacks, i.e., direct cropping and object insertion attacks.

Reversible data hiding is a technique for embedding secret data into a cover media. In this paper, a new reversible data hiding algorithm for videos H.264/AVC is proposed to improve the embedding capacity while the distortion drift is prevented. To embed the secret data into videos H.264/AVC without any intra-frame distortion drift, in our proposed scheme, the relationship of QDCT coefficients is explored. Then, a coefficient pair mapping mechanism in 2D histogram is introduced for embedding data. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed scheme obtains reversibility. The proposed scheme prevents intra-frame distortion drift on the marked videos. In addition, the embedding capacity of the proposed scheme is superior to that of existing schemes while guaranteeing the high visual quality of marked videos.

SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant caused a large number of COVID-19 cases in many countries, including Vietnam. Understanding mortality risk factors is crucial for the clinical management of severe COVID-19.
...We conducted a retrospective study at an intensive care center in Ho Chi Minh City that urgently built by Bach Mai Hospital during the COVID-19 outbreak in Vietnam, when the Delta variant predominated. Participants were laboratory-confirmed patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection, admitted in August 2021. Data on patients' demographic and clinical characteristics, radiographic and laboratory findings, treatment, and clinical time course were compared between survivors and non-survivors. Risk factors to mortality were assessed using logistic regression.
Among 504 eligible COVID-19 patients, case fatality was 52.2%. Unvaccinated patients accounted for 61.2% of non-survivors and 43.6% of survivors (p < 0.001). The time from onset to hospital admission was 8 days in non-survivors and 7 days in survivors (p = 0.004). Among non-survivors, 90.2% developed acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Oxygen therapy was administered for all patients, but antiviral agent was given to 51.7% of non-survivors. 54.2% of non-survivors tested positive for the bacterial infection using blood culture. The risk factors for mortality were diabetes mellitus, respiration rate, oxygen saturation, vaccination status, time from onset to admission, and older age.
Critical patients with COVID-19 owing to the Delta variant in Vietnam had delayed hospital admission, leading to ARDS and death. Early availability of vaccines and preventing bacterial infections are crucial for reducing mortality of COVID-19, especially in low- and middle-income countries.

A dietary exposure and health risk assessment of mycotoxins including aflatoxin B1, fumonisin B1, ochratoxin A, and zearalenone was conducted in 3 provinces in Northern Vietnam namely Hanoi, Thanh ...Hoa, and Ha Giang. Results of the analysis of samples of maize, rice, peanut, and sesame revealed the presence of these mycotoxins in all samples and sampling locations. Aflatoxin B1 was the most frequently detected (19.1%) and widely distributed among different types of samples, whereas the percentage occurrence of fumonisin B1, ochratoxin A, and zearalenone were 11.2, 5.9 and 6.3, respectively. The later three mycotoxins were detected mostly in maize. The exposure to aflatoxin B1 at detected levels could lead to 0.23, 0.65 and 21.0 cases of liver cancer per 100,000 adult people per year in Hanoi, Thanh Hoa and Ha Giang, respectively. The risk assessment also showed the unsafe exposure to ochratoxin A and fumonisin B1 in the highland region where the people consume a large amount of foods derived from maize. In Ha Giang, the mean exposures to fumonisin B1 were lower than its PMTDI (Provisional Maximum Tolerable Daily Intake), however, the 95th percentile values were 1.1–1.9 times of the PMTDI. The mean exposures to ochratoxin A in Ha Giang were about 2.4–3.6 times higher than its PMTWI (Provisional Maximum Tolerable Weekly Intake). There was no risk of fumonisin B1 and ochratoxin A in Hanoi and Thanh Hoa. The dietary exposure to zearalenone was within its PMTDI in all locations. The results pointed out the need for further improvement of the control of these mycotoxins in Vietnam, especially in some highland provinces.

Sequence-to-Sequence (S2S) models recently started to show state-of-the-art performance for automatic speech recognition (ASR). With these large and deep models overfitting remains the largest ...problem, outweighing performance improvements that can be obtained from better architectures. One solution to the overfitting problem is increasing the amount of available training data and the variety exhibited by the training data with the help of data augmentation. In this paper we examine the influence of three data augmentation methods on the performance of two S2S model architectures. One of the data augmentation method comes from literature, while two other methods are our own development - a time perturbation in the frequency domain and sub-sequence sampling. Our experiments on Switchboard and Fisher data show state-of-the-art performance for S2S models that are trained solely on the speech training data and do not use additional text data.
Comprehensive profiling of actionable mutations in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is vital to guide targeted therapy, thereby improving the survival rate of patients. Despite the high incidence ...and mortality rate of NSCLC in Vietnam, the actionable mutation profiles of Vietnamese patients have not been thoroughly examined. Here, we employed massively parallel sequencing to identify alterations in major driver genes (EGFR, KRAS, NRAS, BRAF, ALK and ROS1) in 350 Vietnamese NSCLC patients. We showed that the Vietnamese NSCLC patients exhibited mutations most frequently in EGFR (35.4%) and KRAS (22.6%), followed by ALK (6.6%), ROS1 (3.1%), BRAF (2.3%) and NRAS (0.6%). Interestingly, the cohort of Vietnamese patients with advanced adenocarcinoma had higher prevalence of EGFR mutations than the Caucasian MSK-IMPACT cohort. Compared to the East Asian cohort, it had lower EGFR but higher KRAS mutation prevalence. We found that KRAS mutations were more commonly detected in male patients while EGFR mutations was more frequently found in female. Moreover, younger patients (<61 years) had higher genetic rearrangements in ALK or ROS1. In conclusions, our study revealed mutation profiles of 6 driver genes in the largest cohort of NSCLC patients in Vietnam to date, highlighting significant differences in mutation prevalence to other cohorts.

The least-significant-bit (LSB) technique is one of the commonly used steganographic algorithms in the spatial domain. In most existing schemes, they didn’t carefully analyze the relationship between the image content itself. Hence, the smooth areas in the cover image will inevitably be contaminated after hiding even at a low embedding rate, thereby leading to poor visual quality and low security. In recent years, diverse steganography methods using edge detection have been proposed. However, their schemes employ certain pixels in the cover image for the sake of storing edge information, resulting in significant embedding distortion and low payload. In this study, a novel steganography approach based on the combination of LSB substitution mechanism and edge detection is proposed. To avoid the excavation of human visual system (HVS) when more secret bits are embedded into pixels, we classify the cover pixels into edge areas and non-edge areas. Then, pixels that belong to the edge area are used to carry more secret bits. In addition, to further increase the payload as well as preserve good image quality, we adopt a skillful way that the edge information is determined by most significant bits (MSBs) of the cover image so that it does not need to be stored. In the extraction phase, the same edge information is obtained. Therefore, the secret data can be correctly extracted without confusion. The experimental results demonstrate that our scheme achieves a much higher payload and better visual quality than those of state-of-the-art schemes.

Cobalt-promoted molybdenum sulfide (CoMoS) is known as a promising catalyst for H2 evolution reaction and hydrogen desulfurization reaction. This material exhibits superior catalytic activity as ...compared to its pristine molybdenum sulfide counterpart. However, revealing the actual structure of cobalt-promoted molybdenum sulfide as well as the plausible contribution of a cobalt promoter is still challenging, especially when the material has an amorphous nature. Herein, we report, for the first time, on the use of positron annihilation spectroscopy (PAS), being a nondestructive nuclear radiation-based method, to visualize the position of a Co promoter within the structure of MoS at the atomic scale, which is inaccessible by conventional characterization tools. It is found that at low concentrations, a Co atom occupies preferably the Mo-vacancies, thus generating the ternary phase CoMoS whose structure is composed of a Co-S-Mo building block. Increasing the Co concentration, e.g., a Co/Mo molar ratio of higher than 1.12/1, leads to the occupation of both Mo-vacancies and S-vacancies by Co. In this case, secondary phases such as MoS and CoS are also produced together with the CoMoS one. Combining the PAS and electrochemical analyses, we highlight the important contribution of a Co promoter to enhancing the catalytic H2 evolution activity. Having more Co promoter in the Mo-vacancies promotes the H2 evolution rate, whereas having Co in the S-vacancies causes a drop in H2 evolution ability. Furthermore, the occupation of Co to the S-vacancies leads also to the destabilization of the CoMoS catalyst, resulting in a rapid degradation of catalytic activity.
