Palinavir is a potent peptidomimetic-based HIV protease inhibitor. We have developed a highly convergent and stereoselective synthesis which is amenable to the preparation of multikilogram quantities ...of this compound. The synthetic sequence proceeds in 24 distinct chemical steps (with several integrated, multistep operations) from commercially available starting materials. No chromatographies are required throughout the process, and the final product is purified by crystallization of its dihydrochloride salt to >99% homogeneity.

This present report describes a patient with syncope in whom asystole was triggered by right carotid sinus massage and complete atrioventricular block with slight bradycardia by left carotid sinus ...massage. A dual-chamber, rate-responsive, permanent pacemaker with 'sudden rate drop' algorithm was implanted. The present report underlines the pathophysiology and the clinical utility of carotid sinus massage on both sides. Programming considerations to tailor the rate drop algorithm when two different physiological responses are triggered by carotid sinus massage are discussed. The importance of careful clinical assessment to detect all appropriate physiological responses as well as new pacing algorithms is depicted.
Abstract
Lewis rats were used to study the development of humoral and cell-mediated cytotoxic reactions, as measured against fibroblast colonies of August rats, after (L×A)F1 skin allografts. ...Unmanipulated Lewis recipients were compared with Lewis recipients having received an enhancing Lewis anti-August serum along with the graft. The development of serum cytotoxicity was barely modified. Lymphoid cell cytotoxicity, on the contrary, was markedly delayed, but this was followed by a late rebound of this cell-mediated cytotoxicity, soon after the disappearance of any detectable serum cytotoxic antibodies.

La littérature, ce n'est pas que de l'histoire littéraire ! Pour répondre à une attente qui s'était souvent exprimée, Textyles consacre cette fois sont attention aux lettres en train de se faire, à ...ce qui s'est joué ces dernières années et se joue aujourd'hui dans la création. Il s'agit, plus que d'établir une synthèse encore impossible, du moins de prendre la mesure de l'écriture et de son actualité. Entre autres, d'ajouter au dernier bilan publié - L'Alphabet des lettres belges, paru en 1982 - un panorama provisoire de ce qui s'est cherché, de ce qui s'est affirmé aussi depuis une quinzaine d'années. Dans tous les genres, bien entendu, du roman policier au théâtre en passant par l'historiographie de la littérature et l'écriture du sida. Le dossier Lettres du jour a été coordonné par Paul Aron et Jean-Pierre Bertrand.
