The way of functioning in everyday life and the style of coping with the challenges encountered, including the situations of financial difficulties, are shaped by various adaptation mechanisms ...conditioned by the state of psychophysical health, as well as social and cultural factors. They are related to the intrapsychic features, among which the personality plays a key role.
The research sample consisted of 2 groups - 50 patients with mobility impairment resulting from chronic pathologies of the locomotor system hospitalized in the Department of General and Neuro Rehabilitation, Institute of Rural Health in Lublin, and 50 healthy people. The research was carried out using the NEO-FFI Personality Inventory, Perceived Stress Scale, Self-Esteem Scale, General Self-Efficacy Scale, Impulsiveness Inventory and the APSZ Questionnaire.
In the group of patients with impaired mobility resulting from chronic pathologies of the locomotor system, the leading correlate of the tendency to seek help in the situation of indebtedness was extraversion. In the healthy group, the leading correlates of the tendency to undertake this type of activity were the intensity of perceived stress, neuroticism, self-esteem, self- efficacy and empathy.
In the group of patients with impaired mobility resulting from chronic diseases of the locomotor system, extroversion was the factor conducive to seeking help in the situation of indebtedness. In the group of healthy people, self-esteem, self- efficacy and empathy were the factors conducive to taking such actions, whereas intensity of perceived stress and neuroticism were the risk factors.
Introduction
The image of a politician primes people to judge his/her personality traits. Voters are looking for such qualities as honesty, intelligence, friendliness, sincerity, and trustworthiness. ...Most studies, however, concentrate on the evaluation of faces, and only some take into account the candidate’s attire.
Material and methods
The research included 320 participants between 18 and 78 years. It aimed to assess whether the parliamentary candidate’s attire affects voters’ evaluation of his personality traits. A description of his program was also presented to determine whether it affected the candidate’s evaluation. Participants observed four versions of a fictional candidate’s election materials: the candidate dressed in a formal suit or dressed casually and dressed formally or casually but bearing a doctor’s degree. We used a self-constructed questionnaire to evaluate selected traits of the candidate’s character.
Results
The findings revealed that participants believed an individual in casual wear to be more active, attractive, open to people and the world, friendly, honest, and reliable, and only more smart, and effective while dressed formally. Also, the academic degree proved to be of importance. Accordingly, the same person with a doctorate was additionally evaluated as competent, responsible when dressed casually, and responsible when wearing a suit. It confirms the assumption that the informal dress and academic degree are most influential. The program description proved to be of no significance.
Conclusions
Our study shows that the way the candidate was dressed affected the evaluation of his personality characteristics. The participants attributed the casually dressed candidate the traits expected from a politician.
We examined a retrospective assessment of their parenting style and its relation to procrastination. Most studies focus on parents’ reports; therefore, we sought to determine how children see it. The ...association between parenting style and the behaviour of their offspring seems obvious. Nevertheless, reports on associations between parenting styles and procrastination raise questions. All the more so because procrastination results in academic and work failures, the disruption of family life, and mental and health problems. The target group encompassed 130 Polish high school students (92 girls and 38 boys), all aged 17, and came from middle-class families. We used two tests: the Parental Authority Questionnaire and the Pure Procrastination Scale. The correlation analysis did not confirm the relationship between procrastination and gender or the number of siblings. The study showed that parenting style is essential for children’s well-being, self-regulation, and academic achievements, which are closely linked to procrastination behaviours. The coupled parenting styles of both parents have a greater impact on children’s well-being, self-regulation, and academic achievements than the mother’s and father’s styles considered separately. It shows a need to offer parents support in the raising of their children, which should be taken into consideration by educators and policymakers.
Studies concerning emotional changes following brain damage neglect the emotional responses that might arise in reaction to the stimuli used in their examination of such patients. Yet those reactions ...may be quite forceful often provoking feeling of anxiety or panic and dismay.
A questionnaire designed to reveal associations and emotional attitudes was presented to 96 extramural students. Four categories of products and the products within those categories were selected. The categories included: sweets; alcohol; transport, and consumer electronics. In addition, 174 participants of various ages and professions produced associations linked to emotionally loaded words.
A list of associations and their dominance scores were created. It revealed that transport (4.9) and consumer electronics (5) were given the highest mean scores. Also, the terms car (5.3) and mobile phone (5) aroused the highest levels of emotion. The significance of the emotional attitudes of the participants to objects were determined within particular dimensions that measured likableness, interest, goodness, and attractiveness. The terms beer, chocolate, car and mobile phone were reported to be most acceptable in all four dimensions. The above data suggests that the emotional attitude awakened by a particular object finds its expression in all of the dimensions examined.
The studies revealed the significance of primary subconscious affects for creating positive or negative attitudes. This should be taken into account by therapists since objects which evoke a negative affect may trigger a patient’s reluctance to take part in the rehabilitation procedure.
bBackground:/bThe differences between perception and the recollection of emotionally loaded, provocative, and neutral illustrations were mea sur ed. It was hypothesized that the provocative ...illustrations will be better remembered as they evoke emotions. bMaterial/Methods:/bThe program SMI Experiment Center was used, with the movements of the participants’ eye-balls being recorded on the Eye- tracker iViewX RED500. Two types of advertisements were presented to the participants: (1) those evoking emotions, and (2) neutral ones. In consequence, six illustrations were used. Three were of a provocative character and three were neutral. The neutral advertisements were modifications of the provocative ones. Forty four undergraduate students answered questions concerning individual elements of the presented pictures. This enabled an analysis of the relationships between the type of the advertisement watched and the number of elements memorized. The participants were also asked to select the answer concerning: the degree of a particular advertisement’s attractiveness, the strength of its emotional impact, and the types of evoked emotions (positive – neutral – negative). bResults: /bEmotionally loaded illustrations provoked participant interest increasing the amount of the information processed. However, only provocative advertisements of a positive nature were better memorized than their neutral counterpart. The study revealed that an examination of eye movements is a useful and desirable measure providing detailed information on the manner our brain processes perceived data. bConclusions:/b It was found that the intensity of such emotions as sadness, disgust, surprise, and anger were significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group. No significant differences in the degree of positive emotions were noted. This leads to the conclusion that we should be very careful while selecting the illustration to be presented to patients.
e13030 Background: IHC/FISH is currently the gold standard method of HER2 expression assessment on breast cancer (BC) cells. Recent studies regarding HER2-low category show that the semi-quantitative ...methods are inaccurate. False-negative results may have a negative impact on the prognosis and treatment outcomes. Methods: To determine the correlation between HER2 receptor levels assessed quantitatively with the use of an innovative diagnostic probe and traditional standard IHC/FISH we conducted an interventional, open-label, single-arm safety and efficacy part I/II clinical trial. In total 22 female patients aged 18 to 75 years with BC and known HER2 status were enrolled. We have developed a novel microprobe merging molecular biology with photonics technology for real-time, in vivo assessment of HER2 expression on BC. The concentration of the HER2 was measured using a diagnostic microprobe inserted in the tumor under ultrasound guidance. To assess the optimal puncture site the second probe examination was additionally performed at the same time in the immediate vicinity of the tumor. Results: Finally, 18 pts. were included in statistical analysis (6 pts. with HER2-positive and 12 pts. with HER2-negative BC). Neither baseline patients’ characteristics nor medical history or concomitant medications did include any potential factors that could affects efficacy or safety analysis. The primary endpoint was initial determination of HER2 receptor concentration ranges detected with microprobe corresponding to HER2 receptor status (positive/negative) identified by IHC/FISH. The study met its primary endpoint. Microprobe mean values in tumor ranged between 4.893 (SD ±10.125) (min) and 8.782 (SD ±12.509) (max), with mean value 6.497 (SD ±10.939) for HER2 IHC positive status and between -3.634 (SD ±6.360) (min) and 5.012 (SD ±2.685) (max), with mean value 1.178 (SD ±2.387) for HER2 IHC negative status. The difference was significant with use of Wilcoxon rank sum exact test. i.e. showed lower values for HER2-negative BC than for HER2-positive BC, p=0.041 for min values. For the remaining comparisons the p-values were not statistically significant; however, the analysis detected reasonable numerical tendency toward higher values in HER2-positive BC as compared to HER2-negative BC. It has been confirmed in analysis performed using linear mixed models for repeated measures. We suspect that HER2-negative group is heterogenous and possibly includes patients with truly HER2-negative (0), but also patients with HER2-low, which could falsely overvalue concentrations range in this group. Conclusions: The current standard IHC/FISH method for HER2 expression assessment could be questioned and challenged as too imprecise and advances in targeted therapy may require more detailed technologies. False negative results can have particularly important clinical and prognostic implications. Clinical trial information: NCT05415943 .

Plano-valgus foot is a common problem among children and adolescents. The problem is most often noticed in early childhood, as this is the period when the arches of the foot should achieve a normal ...structure through the disappearance of the fat pad that is present from birth. During this period, the child's skeletal system is very malleable and its remodelling can be considerably influenced by additional factors. This is due to the high amount of cartilage tissue present in a child's skeletal system. Plano-valgus foot can be treated with non-operative methods, such as physiotherapy or the use of orthopaedic supplies, such as suitable orthopaedic insoles. Unfortunately, non-operative treatment is not always sufficient. If physiotherapy does not achieve the expected results, a physician may opt for surgical treatment to restore a correct foot alignment. The most commonly performed plano-valgus foot procedure is subtalar arthroereisis. It is a minimally invasive procedure that takes approximately 10–30 minutes to perform. During the procedure, appropriate implants of various types and sizes are inserted into the tarsal sinus to reduce excessive foot pronation. Studies have shown that the procedure is beneficial to the patient, as it positions the foot correctly and children can return to performing physical activities without experiencing pain and/or rapid muscle fatigue in the foot area. The most commonly used measurements to assess the effects of plantar arthrodesis are those calculated from X-rays, such as Meary's angle, calcaneal inclination pitch angle (CP), talocalcaneal angle (Kite's angle), and surveys using The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society’s (AOFAS’s) ankle and hindfoot scoring system.
