Objectives
HIV‐associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND) is an independent predictor of early mortality and is associated with many difficulties in activities of daily living. We sought to determine ...the prevalence of and risk factors for HAND in HIV‐infected Koreans. In addition, we investigated the performance of screening tools and components of neuropsychological (NP) tests for diagnosing HAND.
Methods
HIV‐infected patients were enrolled consecutively from two different urban teaching hospitals in Seoul, South Korea between March 2012 and September 2012. Participants completed a detailed NP assessment of six cognitive domains commonly affected by HIV. The Frascati criteria were used for diagnosing HAND. Four key questions, the International HIV Dementia Scale (IHDS) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA)‐K were also assessed as potential tools for screening for HAND.
Results
Among the 194 participants, the prevalence of HAND was 26.3%. Asymptomatic neurocognitive impairment and minor neurocognitive disorder accounted for 52.9 and 47.1% of the patients with HAND, respectively. In multivariate analysis, haemoglobin (Hb) level ≤ 13 g/dL (P = 0.046) and current use of a protease inhibitor‐based regimen (P = 0.031) were independent risk factors for HAND. The sensitivity and specificity of the IHDS were 72.6 and 60.8%, and those of MoCA‐K were 52.9 and 73.4%, respectively. The IHDS (P < 0.001) and MoCA‐K (P < 0.001) were both useful for screening for HAND. Among NP tests, the sensitivity and specificity of the Grooved Pegboard Test were 90.2 and 72.0%, and those of the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test were 61.2 and 84.4%, respectively.
Conclusions
HAND is a prevalent comorbidity in HIV‐infected Koreans. Active screening and diagnosis with effective tools, such as the IHDS, MoCA‐K and Grooved Pegboard Test, could be used to identify this important complication.

Anti-interferon- γ (IFN-γ) autoantibodies (anti-IFN-γ Abs) have been increasingly recognized as an important cause of disseminated nontuberculous mycobacterial (DNTM) infection, and identification of ...this immunodeficiency impacts clinical management. However, the protean disease manifestations and inaccessibility to diagnostic tests in clinical settings hamper its early diagnosis. Here, we sought to determine whether QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-tube (QFT-GIT), a commercialized IFN-γ release assay, could be used to screen for neutralizing anti-IFN-γ Abs among previously healthy adults with DNTM infection.
Non-HIV patients with DNTM infection were prospectively enrolled for the QFT-GIT assays. We measured their plasma concentration of anti-IFN-γ Abs and their neutralizing capacity through enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and flow cytometry. We then analysed the correlation between QFT-GIT results and the presence of neutralizing anti-IFN-γ Abs among patients with and without previously recognized immunosuppression, respectively.
Irrespective of the autoantibody concentration or disease activity, all patients with neutralizing anti-IFN-γ Abs (100%, 30/30) had indeterminate QFT-GIT results because of extremely low or undetectable IFN-γ levels in the mitogen tubes. None of the four DNTM patients who were previously healthy and tested negative of anti-IFN-γ Abs had an indeterminate QFT-GIT result, and their IFN-γ levels in the mitogen tube were significantly higher than those of the patients with anti-IFN-γ Abs (8.28 IU/mL vs. 0.05 IU/mL, p 0.001).
An indeterminate QFT-GIT result because of undetectable or extremely low IFN-γ level in the mitogen tube suggests the presence of neutralizing anti-IFN-γ Abs in a previously healthy patient with DNTM infection.

Objectives. The effect of shockwave in osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is poorly understood. The purpose of this study was to investigate the regeneration effects of shockwave in ONFH. ...Methods. This study consisted of 14 femoral heads from 14 patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty for ONFH. Seven patients with seven hips who received shockwave prior to surgery were designated as the study group, whereas, seven patients with seven hips who did not receive shockwave were assigned to the control group. Both groups showed similar demographic characteristics. The femoral heads were investigated with histopathological examination and immunohistochemical analysis with von Willebrand factor (vWF), VEGF, platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1) also referred to as (CD 31) and vascular cell adhesion molecule (VCAM) for angiogenesis, and with proliferation cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), Dickkopf-1 (DKK1) and Winless 3a (Wnt 3) for bone remodelling and regeneration. Results. In histopathological examination, the study group showed significantly more viable bone and less necrotic bone, higher cell concentration and more cell activities including phagocytosis than the control group. In immunohistochemical analysis, the study group showed significant increases in vWF (P < 0.01), VEGF (P = 0.0012) and CD 31 (P = 0.0023), Wnt3 (P = 0.008) and PCNA (P = 0.0011), and decreases in VCAM (P = 0.0013) and DKK1 (P = 0.0007) than the control group. Conclusions. Shockwave treatment significantly promotes angiogenesis and bone remodelling than the control. It appears that application of shockwave results in regeneration effects in hips with ONFH.
As an inorganic cousin of graphene, MoS2 monolayer has attracted considerable attention. However, a full understanding of its structure and stability is still lacking due to its dependence on ...experimental synthesis conditions. Using first-principle calculations combined with Boltzmann transport equation, we have extensively studied the geometry, energetics, electronic structure, optical absorption, and carrier mobility of various phases of MoS2. We have not only identified the stable phases of a MoS2 monolayer, but also clarified the specific conditions under which different phases are formed. The possible pathways for transitions among different phases are also discussed.

This study examines how the legal and regulatory changes in China affect the relationship between client economic importance and audit quality. At the individual auditor level, we find that the ...propensity to issue modified audit opinions (MAOs) is negatively correlated with client importance from 1995 to 2000. However, from 2001 to 2004, when the institutional environment became more investor-friendly, the propensity to issue MAOs is positively associated with client importance. These findings are corroborated by an analysis of regulatory sanctions. Although client importance measured at the office level is also negatively related to the propensity for MAOs from 1995 to 2000 without controlling for the auditor-level client importance, this result is sensitive to model specification and sample composition. Our results suggest that (1) institutional improvements prompt auditors to prioritize the costs of compromising quality over the economic benefits gained from important clients; and (2) the impact of client importance on audit decisions appears to be different at the individual auditor and office levels.

ABSTRACT
We report on the Insight-HXMT observations of the new black hole X-ray binary MAXI J1820+070 during its 2018 outburst. Detailed spectral analysis via the continuum fitting method shows an ...evolution of the inferred spin during its high soft sate. Moreover, the hardness ratio, the non-thermal luminosity and the reflection fraction also undergo an evolution, exactly coincident to the period when the inferred spin transition takes place. The unphysical evolution of the spin is attributed to the evolution of the inner disc, which is caused by the collapse of a hot corona due to condensation mechanism or may be related to the deceleration of a jet-like corona. The studies of the inner disc radius and the relation between the disc luminosity and the inner disc radius suggest that, only at a particular epoch, did the inner edge of the disc reach the innermost stable circular orbit and the spin measurement is reliable. We then constrain the spin of MAXI J1820 + 070 to be $a_*=0.2^{+0.2}_{-0.3}$. Such a slowly spinning black hole possessing a strong jet suggests that its jet activity is driven mainly by the accretion disc rather than by the black hole spin.
Using 9.0 f b − 1 of e + e − collision data collected at center-of-mass energies from 4.178 to 4.278 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we perform the first search for the radiative ...transition χ c 1 ( 3872 ) → γ ψ 2 ( 3823 ) . No signal is observed and the upper limit on the ratio of branching fractions B ( χ c 1 ( 3872 ) → γ ψ 2 ( 3823 ) , ψ 2 ( 3823 ) → γ χ c 1 ) / B ( χ c 1 ( 3872 ) → π + π − J / ψ ) is set at 0.075 at the 90% confidence level. Our result contradicts theoretical predictions under the assumption that the χ c 1 ( 3872 ) is the pure charmonium state χ c 1 ( 2 P ) . Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Using ( 10.087 ± 0.044 ) × 10 9 J / ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, the processes Λ p → Λ p and Λ ¯ p → Λ ¯ p are studied, where the Λ / Λ ¯ baryons are ...produced in the process J / ψ → Λ Λ ¯ and the protons are the hydrogen nuclei in the cooling oil of the beam pipe. Clear signals are observed for the two reactions. The cross sections in − 0.9 ≤ cos θ Λ / Λ ¯ ≤ 0.9 are measured to be σ ( Λ p → Λ p ) = ( 12.2 ± 1.6 stat ± 1.1 syst ) and σ ( Λ ¯ p → Λ ¯ p ) = ( 17.5 ± 2.1 stat ± 1.6 syst ) mb at the Λ / Λ ¯ momentum of 1.074 GeV / c within a range of ± 0.017 GeV / c , where the θ Λ / Λ ¯ are the scattering angles of the Λ / Λ ¯ in the Λ p / Λ ¯ p rest frames. Furthermore, the differential cross sections of the two reactions are also measured, where there is a slight tendency of forward scattering for Λ p → Λ p , and a strong forward peak for Λ ¯ p → Λ ¯ p . We present an approach to extract the total elastic cross sections by extrapolation. The study of Λ ¯ p → Λ ¯ p represents the first study of antihyperon-nucleon scattering, and these new measurements will serve as important inputs for the theoretical understanding of the (anti)hyperon-nucleon interaction.
