The maker movement has been touted as a harbinger of the next industrial revolution. Through shared access to tools and digital fabrication technologies, makers can act as producers in the sharing ...economy and potentially increase entrepreneurship rates, catalyze advanced manufacturing, and spur economic development. We develop a model of the maker movement configured around social exchange, technology resources, and knowledge creation and sharing. We highlight opportunities for studying the conditions under which the movement might foster entrepreneurship outcomes and discuss how research on the maker movement can deepen our understanding of entrepreneurial teams and corporate entrepreneurship.

Chronic limb‐threatening ischemia (CLTI) is associated with significant morbidity, including major limb amputation, and mortality. Healing ischemic wounds is necessary to optimise vascular outcomes ...and can be facilitated by dedicated appointments at a wound clinic. This study aimed to estimate the association between successful wound care initiation and 6‐month wound healing, with specific attention to differences by race/ethnicity. This retrospective study included 398 patients with CLTI and at least one ischaemic wound who scheduled an appointment at our wound clinic between January 2015 and July 2020. The exposure was the completion status of patients' first scheduled wound care appointment (complete/not complete) and the primary outcome was 6‐month wound healing (healed/not healed). The analysis focused on how this association was modified by race/ethnicity. We used Aalen–Johansen estimators to produce cumulative incidence curves and calculated risk ratios within strata of race/ethnicity. The final adjustment set included age, revascularization, and initial wound size. Patients had a mean age of 67 ± 14 years, were 41% female, 46% non‐White and had 517 total wounds. In the overall cohort, 70% of patients completed their first visit and 34% of wounds healed within 6‐months. There was no significant difference in 6‐month healing based on first visit completion status for White/non‐Hispanic individuals (RR 95% CI = 1.18 0.91, 1.45; p‐value = 0.130), while non‐White individuals were roughly 3 times more likely to heal their wounds if they completed their first appointment (RR 95% CI = 2.89 2.66, 3.11; p‐value < 0.001). In conclusion, non‐White patients were approximately three times more likely to heal their wound in 6 months if they completed their first scheduled wound care appointment while White/non‐Hispanic individuals' risk of healing was similar regardless of first visit completion status. Future efforts should focus on providing additional resources to ensure minority groups with wounds have the support they need to access and successfully initiate wound care.

Advances in digital manufacturing technologies have not only altered R&D processes for new product development (NPD), but they have also opened new possibilities for user innovators to engage in ...traditionally closed innovation processes. However, incorporating external sources of user innovation—through design challenges or crowdsourcing, for example—can introduce competing logics into exploratory innovation processes. Using the lens of complexity, we conduct an ethnographic study of the competing logics at work in the NPD processes of a corporate makerspace launched by a large firm in the consumer appliances industry. The makerspace was founded with a hybrid logic, intended to combine the community logic of makers with the corporate logic of the parent organization. We analyze the conflicts that arose between logics and how the hybrid logic evolved through four iterations of the NPD process. We identify how managing multiple logics led to structural and identity changes, and we explain how two mechanisms—structural bridging and stakeholder identity linking—enabled the makerspace to innovate with a hybrid logic and overcome the constraints of a dominant logic on the NPD process. The results offer insights into dynamic organizational responses to complexity, how new business initiatives can be structured to act as exploratory units for corporate parents, and how corporate makerspaces can help incorporate external sources of innovation.

We present a measurement of R_{K^{*}}, the branching fraction ratio B(B→K^{*}μ^{+}μ^{-})/B(B→K^{*}e^{+}e^{-}), for both charged and neutral B mesons. The ratio for the charged case R_{K^{*+}} is the ...first measurement ever performed. In addition, we report absolute branching fractions for the individual modes in bins of the squared dilepton invariant mass q^{2}. The analysis is based on a data sample of 711 fb^{-1}, containing 772×10^{6} BBover ¯ events, recorded at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^{+}e^{-} collider. The obtained results are consistent with standard model expectations.

The enormous scale of suffering, breadth of societal impact, and ongoing uncertainty wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic introduced dynamics seldom examined in the crisis entrepreneurship literature. ...Previous research indicates that when a crisis causes a failure of public goods, spontaneous citizen ventures often emerge to leverage unique local knowledge to rapidly customize abundant external resources to meet immediate needs. However, as outsiders, emergent citizen groups responding to the dire shortage of personal protective equipment at the onset of COVID-19 lacked local knowledge and legitimacy. In this study, we examine how entrepreneurial citizens mobilized collective resources in attempts to gain acceptance and meet local needs amid the urgency of the pandemic. Through longitudinal case studies of citizen groups connected to makerspaces in four U.S. cities, we study how they adapted to address the resource and legitimacy limitations they encountered. We identify three mechanisms—augmenting, circumventing, and attenuating—that helped transient citizen groups calibrate their resource mobilization based on what they learned over time. We highlight how extreme temporality imposes limits on resourcefulness and legitimation, making it critical for collective entrepreneurs to learn when to work within their limitations rather than try to overcome them.

The first annual Women's Vascular Summit highlighted sex- and gender-related knowledge gaps in vascular disease diagnosis and treatment. This finding suggests an opportunity for further research to ...improve care and outcomes in people who identify as women, specifically. The purpose of this study was to a large national dataset to identify all operations performed for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), carotid artery stenosis (CAS), and peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in the United States, and to provide data on sex-related disparities in treatment.
All hospitalizations of adult patients (≥18 years old) diagnosed with AAA, CAS, or PAD who underwent vascular surgery from 2000 to 2016 were identified in the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project National Inpatient Sample. Sex-stratified U.S. Census data and sex-specific population disease prevalence estimates from the National Institute of Health and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality were used to calculate the number of U.S. adults with AAA, CAS, and PAD. Sex-stratified rates of surgery and incidence rate ratios were estimated using Poisson regression. Among those undergoing surgery, multivariable logistic regression was used to assess differences in endovascular vs open approach.
Over 16 years, there were 1,021,684 hospitalizations for vascular surgery: 13% AAA (21% female, 79% male), 40% CAS (42% female, 58% male), and 47% PAD (42% female, 58% male). Females were older than males at time of surgery (median age, 71.3 years vs 69.7 years) and less likely to have private insurance (18% vs 23%); minimal differences were seen across race/ethnicity, comorbidities, and hospital characteristics. After accounting for disease prevalence, females were still 25% less likely to undergo surgery for AAA and 30% less likely to undergo surgery for PAD compared with males with the same disease. These results were consistent over time. After adjustment, females, compared with males, were less likely to receive an endovascular procedure compared with open for AAA or CAS, and more likely to receive one for PAD.
From 2000 to 2016 in the United States, females were less likely to undergo intervention for AAA and PAD than males. This finding is particularly significant for PAD, because the prevalence is the same for both sexes, indicating that females are likely undertreated for PAD. Additionally, females were less likely to undergo endovascular surgery for AAA and more likely to undergo endovascular surgery for PAD than males. These findings suggest that improvement in AAA and PAD identification and management in females may improve outcomes.

New products or services often misalign with customer preferences, and sometimes these initial offerings must be abandoned and replaced. Factors influencing these "complete pivot" decisions are ...poorly understood. We use behavioral decision theory to develop a theoretical model of pivot decisions that tests our predictions via a conjoint analysis experiment. We find that magnitude of the miss (revenues compared to plan), length of the runway (cash available/burn rate), and attribution for the miss (reason for customer misreads) significantly influence complete pivot decisions, and we simultaneously consider interactions. Individual grit and impulsiveness also shape the effects of some attributes.

Purpose of Review
This review aims to summarize the current burden of heart failure (HF) in the United States, specifically in patients with low socioeconomic position (SEP), and synthesize ...recommendations to prevent HF-related hospital readmissions in this vulnerable population.
Recent Findings
As treatments have improved, HF-related mortality has declined over time, resulting in more patients living with HF. This has led to an increase in hospitalizations, however, putting excess strain on our healthcare system. HF patients with low SEP are a particularly vulnerable group, as they experience higher rates of hospitalization and readmission compared to their high SEP counterparts. The Hospital Readmission Reduction Program (HRRP) was created to motivate interventions that reduce hospital readmissions across diseases, with HF being a primary target. Numerous readmission prevention efforts have been suggested to target the pre-hospitalization, hospitalization, and post-hospitalization phases, including addressing social determinants of health (SDoH), improving coordination of care, optimizing discharge plans, and improving adherence to follow-up care and medication regimens. Many of these proposed interventions show promise in reducing HF-related readmissions and issues surrounding adequate caregiver support may be particularly important to reduce readmissions among persons in low SEP.
Summary
Reducing HF-related hospital readmissions is possible, even in vulnerable populations like those with low SEP, but this will require coordinated efforts across the healthcare system and throughout the life course of these patients. Caregiver support is a necessary part of optimized care for low SEP HF patients and future efforts should consider interventions that support these caregivers.

Research Summary
This study explores how digital transformation can promote organizational resilience when incumbent firms face crises. We examine the intersection of digital transformation and ...resilience‐seeking processes through two longitudinal case studies of incumbent firms designated as “essential businesses” during the COVID‐19 pandemic. We analyze 72 crisis adaptations the firms implemented during the crisis to understand how previously underutilized digital capabilities upgraded each firm's ability to adapt to mitigate stakeholder risks and engage in resilience‐seeking rather than advantage‐ or opportunity‐seeking. We identify five digital capabilities—virtual access, virtual collaboration, data‐driven decision‐making, algorithmic reprogrammability, and assisted decision‐making—that arose from technologies acquired to enable digital transformation before the crisis. We discuss the concept of resilience opportunities and contribute to the literatures on digital transformation and organizational resilience.
Managerial Summary
While studying the digital transformation of incumbent firms, we found that digital capabilities helped firms adapt during the COVID‐19 pandemic in ways that crisis management plans did not anticipate. As a result, these adaptations accelerated digital transformation initiatives that years of strategic planning had failed to achieve. We explain why the quantum leap in digital transformation helped these firms not only adapt during crisis, but digital adaptation also enabled them to bounce back more resilient and competitive than before the crisis. We show how the pursuit of organizational resilience can be a vital justification for investments in digital transformation. Strategic leaders play a critical role in not only adopting new technologies, but also in helping firms become more adaptive by combining new and legacy technologies.
