Amyloidosis is a disease characterized by the tissue deposition of autologous extracellular fibrillar proteins that can result in compression of adjacent tissues. Amyloidosis is well-recognized in a ... wide variety of animals, including mammals, birds, and reptiles. However, to date, there is only one report of amyloidosis in cetaceans. During 1999 and 2000, among 12 Stejneger's beaked whales (Mesoplodon stejnegeri) that were stranded along the Sea of Japan's coast, amyloidosis was found in two whales (case 1, 498 cm, male; case 2, 520 cm, female). For this study population, the prevalence rate of amyloidosis was approximately 17%. These two animals were considered physically and sexually mature based on body length, external features, gonad characteristics, and skeletal features. Livers were notably swollen, fragile, and pale (brownish yellow) on gross examination. A large deposit of amyloid was found in Disse's spaces along with marked atrophy of the hepatocytes. Numerous granulomas, including many nematodes (Crassicauda sp.), were found along with amyloid deposition in the kidneys. Amyloid was also detected in the heart, spleen, adrenal gland, and pancreas. Amyloid in both cases was identified by typical morphology on H&E and Congo red staining. Electron microscopy displayed a typical network of fine fibrils measuring about 11 nm in diameter. プロスタグランジンF2α（PGF2α），馬絨毛性性腺刺激ホルモン及びヒト絨毛性性腺刺激ホルモン（hCG）投与による排卵同期化法を用いた豚の定時人工授精（AI）技術の確立を目的とし，排卵同期化処置を施した豚の生殖内分泌動態，排卵時期及びAI適期を検討した．排卵後12日から排卵同期化処置を施した豚の血中プロジェステロン濃度は，PGF2α投与の翌日には有意に低下した．排卵前に起こる黄体形成ホルモンサージのピークは，hCG投与後26.0±1.2時間に認められ，排卵はhCG投与後44.8±2.3時間に観察された．発情終了後から処置を開始し，hCG投与後24時間あるいは36時間に1回のみAIを行った場合，すべての豚から正常な形態を示す胚盤胞が回収された．また，hCG投与後24時間あるいは36時間に1回のみAIを行った豚の繁殖成績は，自然発情中に複数回AIを行った豚と同等であることが明らかとなった．

La presente studio tratta del panorama generale dei vari aspetti che si riferiscono alla voga dell'opera nella societa veneziana del diciassettesimo secolo. I principi sulla espressione musicale ... della Camerata fiorentina, basati sugli studi della tragedia greca antica, avevano fatto nascere lo stile del recitar cantando, e i drammi per musica coi recitativi furono rappresentati nelle feste delle varie corti d'Italia. L'opera lirica di carattere aristocratico del primo periodo serviva come divertimento per la gente di corte, grazie alla sua letterarieta di alto livello e la bellezza stilisticamente elaborata. Ma, sin da quando l'opera venne conosciuta nella Serenissima Repubblica Veneta nell'anno 1637, situazione riguardante l'opera subi dei cambiamenti sostanziali. Il successo della "L'Andromeda" rappresentata al Teatro S. Cassiano Nuovo suscito l'interesse della classe dei borghesi della citta di Venezia che cercava una nuova forma di attivita economica. Di conseguenza furono costruiti altri nuovi teatri in un brevissimo spazio di tempo, si consolido una forma amministativa di base economica, e fino alla fine del diciasettesimo secolo furono rappresentate persino circa 360 opere in 16 teatri. A differenza dell'opera umanistica di corte, quella veneziana del secolo in questione veniva prodotta, tenendo conto sopratutto del gusto degli spettatori e dei guadagni economici, e in questa maniera si realizzarono dei cambiamenti rapidi e notevoli sotto vari aspetti, che cagionarono cosi una produzione in serie di bassa qualita e spingendola verso la decadenza stilistica. Era molto raro nell'Europa occidentale del diciassettesimo secolo, ove stave consolidandosi l'assolutismo nel campo politico, produrre opere artistiche, non quale forma di divertimento monopolizzata dalla classe privilegiata della societa, ma per soddisfare la domanda e il bisogno del popolo, e quindi mi sembra molto interessante esaminare a fondo la situazione che riguarda l'opera veneziana dell'epoca e seguire la storia della sua decadenza. I teatri pubblici a pagamento nati a Venezia, i palchi cumulativi, i nuovi tentativi in cerca di ampollosita nel meccanismo degli apparati e dei mutamenti di scene, il sipario, il proscenio, l'arco, l'orchestra, tutti questi elementi contribuirono molto alla diffusione dell'opera new vari paesi dell'Europa, quale mezzo lussuoso di divertimento D'altra parte, pero, l'incessante ricerca di una massima incivisita tramite la macchinosita scenografica e il fasto scenico, la tendenza eccessiva di frequenza di arie, spinsero oltre 50 mutamenti di scena durante una rappresentazione, spinsero la rappresentazione operistiche verso un complesso di effetti sontuosi di scena e di esibizionismo della tecnica dei cantanti, che accelerarono il cambiamento dell'opera stessa. I codici musicali contariniani della biblioteca di S. Marco sono un vasto campo aperto alla ricerca melodrammatica, campo che offre piu comuni notizie storiche dei drammi musicali rappresentati in Venezia. A quell'epoca al compositore della musica era riserbato il terzo posto, non solo il poeta, ma talvolta anche il macchinista era tenuto da piu del compositore. Pertanto i gran parte di spartiti operistici sono scartiti dopo la sua rappresentazione. Quindi la mancanza dei spartiti rende piu difficile di chiarire al processo di crescita dell'opera veneziana del diciassettesimo secolo. I codici contariniani sono costituiti da ben 120 manoscritti che sono ricche documenti per stabilire le cause dell'evoluzione operistica. Dall'analisi dei codici musicali contariniani, l'autrice della presente tesi cerca di esaminare il ruolo storico effettuato dall'opera veneziana del Seicento, alla luce di suoi contributi per lo sviluppo dell'opera europea, sia dal punto di vista funzionale che(View PDF for the rest of the abstract.) more

This study was conducted to investigate whether oil-in-water (O/W) and water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions could be simultaneously obtained from the same raw materials via three-phase emulsification. The ... formation of both emulsion types was examined experimentally using the same hydrophilic nanoparticles and emulsion composition. Two different cases were considered. In the first case, only an O/W emulsion was formed, and in the other case, both O/W and W/O emulsions were produced depending on the interaction between nanoparticles and oil-water interface. These results were attributed to the location of hydrophilic nanoparticles at the oil-water interface. Only the O/W emulsion was obtained when nanoparticles were attached to the oil-water interface. Meanwhile, both types of emulsions were stably formed when nanoparticles partially penetrated the oil phase. Furthermore, even when the type of nanoparticles and emulsion composition were fully identical, the formation of both O/W and W/O emulsions could be independently controlled by varying the related non-thermodynamic parameters during preparation. For example, to produce the O/W emulsion, oil was added to the aqueous nanoparticle phase, and to prepare the W/O emulsion, the aqueous nanoparticle phase was poured into the oil phase. The findings of this work revealed that unlike conventional surfactant emulsification, the three-phase emulsification process mainly depended not on intensive parameters but on extensive parameters such as the masses and sizes of oil droplets and nanoparticles. Background It is now widely recognized that outcomes in cancer patients are not determined by their tumor characteristics alone. In this study, we retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of ... esophageal cancer patients to evaluate the impact of red blood cell distribution width (RDW), platelet distribution width (PDW), and mean platelet volume (MPV) on cancer-specific survival (CSS). Study design We retrospectively reviewed a database of 144 consecutive patients who underwent curative esophagectomy for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma at our institute between 2006 and 2014. Result In multivariate analysis, pathological stage (pStage) ( p  = 0.0002) and a high RDW ( p  = 0.0300) were found to be independently associated with poor survival. Patients with a high RDW had a significantly poorer prognosis in terms of CSS than those with a low RDW ( p  = 0.004). Among non-elderly patients, multivariate analysis demonstrated that pStage ( p  = 0.0120), and a high RDW ( p  = 0.0092) were independent risk factors for a worse prognosis. In addition, non-elderly patients with a high RDW had a significantly poorer prognosis in terms of CSS than those with a low RDW ( p  = 0.0003). On the other hand, univariate analysis demonstrated that pStage ( p  = 0.0008) was the only significant risk factor for a poor prognosis in elderly patients. Conclusions We confirmed that a high RDW was significantly associated with the CSS of esophageal cancer patients after curative esophagectomy. Furthermore, in non-elderly patients, a high RDW was a significant and independent predictor of poor survival. more
