In view of the existing combination forecasting methods based on rough set theory that may not be able to weight individual individual forecasting models, the attribute importance in the original ...method is adjusted and combined with the root mean square error of the individual forecasting model to form a new attribute importance. The new attribute importance is used to determine the combination forecasting weight coefficients, which solves the problem that the original method cannot be weighted, and increases the consideration of forecasting accuracy. Weight coefficients are also determined according to the historical forecasting performance of the models, which reflects the forecasting stability of the models. The integrated weighting method is used to fuse the two kinds of weight coefficients. Based on a certain type of ship maintenance cost data example, the improved method is compared with the commonly used combined forecasting methods, and better results are obtained, the accuracy and stability of the forecasting are improved, and the effectiveness of the method is verified.
Breast cancer is a serious disease across the world, and it is one of the largest causes of cancer death for women. The traditional diagnosis is not only time consuming but also easily affected. ...Hence, artificial intelligence (AI), especially neural networks, has been widely used to assist to detect cancer. However, in recent years, the computational ability of a neuron has attracted more and more attention. The main computational capacity of a neuron is located in the dendrites. In this paper, a novel neuron model with dendritic nonlinearity (NMDN) is proposed to classify breast cancer in the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Database (WBCD). In NMDN, the dendrites possess nonlinearity when realizing the excitatory synapses, inhibitory synapses, constant-1 synapses and constant-0 synapses instead of being simply weighted. Furthermore, the nonlinear interaction among the synapses on a dendrite is defined as a product of the synaptic inputs. The soma adds all of the products of the branches to produce an output. A back-propagation-based learning algorithm is introduced to train the NMDN. The performance of the NMDN is compared with classic back propagation neural networks (BPNNs). Simulation results indicate that NMDN possesses superior capability in terms of the accuracy, convergence rate, stability and area under the ROC curve (AUC). Moreover, regarding ROC, for continuum values, the existing 0-connections branches after evolving can be eliminated from the dendrite morphology to release computational load, but with no influence on the performance of classification. The results disclose that the computational ability of the neuron has been undervalued, and the proposed NMDN can be an interesting choice for medical researchers in further research.
Geometrical, electronic, energetic and thermodynamic properties of the Cu-, Al- and O-terminated CuAlO2(0001) surfaces have been studied by first-principles density functional theory (DFT) ...calculations. The atomic displacements and surface relaxations of four different terminations were taken into account. According to the results of the surface electronic properties, the Cu-terminated and Al-terminated CuAlO2(0001) surfaces are metallic, and the OI and OII surfaces present the p-type semiconductor surfaces. The surface energies and thermodynamic stability of CuAlO2(0001) surfaces have been analyzed, indicating that the OI surface is the thermodynamically most stable termination.

How specific features of the environment are represented in the mammalian brain is an important unexplained mystery in neuroscience. Visual information is considered to be captured most ...preferentially by the brain. As one of the visual information elements, motion direction in the receptive field is thought to be collected already at the retinal direction-selective ganglion cell (DSGC) layer. However, knowledge of direction-selective (DS) mechanisms in the retina has remained only at a cellular level, and there is a lack of complete direction-sensitivity understanding in the visual system. Previous studies of DS models have been limited to the stage of one-dimensional black-and-white (binary) images or still lack biological rationality. In this paper, we innovatively propose a two-dimensional, eight-directional motion direction detection mechanism for grayscale images called the artificial visual system (AVS). The structure and neuronal functions of this mechanism are highly faithful to neuroscientific perceptions of the mammalian retinal DS pathway, and thus highly biologically reasonable. In particular, by introducing the horizontal contact pathway provided by horizontal cells (HCs) in the retinal inner nuclear layer and forming a functional collaboration with bipolar cells (BCs), the limitation that previous DS models can only recognize object motion directions in binary images is overcome; the proposed model can solve the recognizing problem of object motion directions in grayscale images. Through computer simulation experiments, we verified that AVS is effective and has high detection accuracy, and it is not affected by the shape, size, and location of objects in the receptive field. Its excellent noise immunity was also verified by adding multiple types of noise to the experimental data set. Compared to a classical convolutional neural network (CNN), it was verified that AVS is completely significantly better in terms of effectiveness and noise immunity, and has various advantages such as high interpretability, no need for learning, and easy hardware implementation. In addition, activation characteristics of neurons in AVS are highly consistent with those real in the retinal DS pathway, with strong neurofunctional similarity and brain-like superiority. Moreover, AVS will also provide a novel perspective and approach to understanding and analyzing mechanisms as well as principles of mammalian retinal direction-sensitivity in face of a cognitive bottleneck on the DS pathway that has persisted for nearly 60 years.

Human mitochondrial antiviral signaling protein (hMAVS, also known as IPS-1, VISA, or Cardif) is essential for antiviral innate immunity. The Chinese tree shrew (Tupaia belangeri chinenses), a close relative of primates, is emerging as a potential animal model for investigating viral infection. However, there is a lack of biological knowledge about the antiviral innate immunity of the tree shrew. In this study, we identified and characterized the function of the Chinese tree shrew MAVS gene (tMAVS). The cDNA of tMAVS was 2771 bp in length and encoded a polypeptide of 501 amino acids. Phylogenetic analyses based on the amino acid sequences revealed a closer affinity of tMAVS with those of primates. Quantitative real-time PCR analysis indicated that tMAVS mRNA was constitutively expressed in all seven tissues analyzed in this study. The tMAVS mRNA expression was rapidly and significantly increased after RNA virus infections. Ectopic-expression of tMAVS significantly potentiated the virus-triggered activation of IRF3, NF-κB and interferon-β (IFN-β), whereas knockdown of tMAVS displayed the opposite effect. Furthermore, tMAVS mutants lacking the caspase activation and recruitment (CARD) domains or the transmembrane (TM) domain were unable to induce IFN-β. Similar with hMAVS, mitochondrial localization of tMAVS was dependent on its domain. Collectively, this study revealed evolutionary conservation of the MAVS antiviral signaling pathway in the Chinese tree shrew.

The ...sulphur concentration effects on the structural and electronic properties of S-doped CuAlO2 have been investigated using the first-principles density functional theory. The calculated results show that the structural parameters increase with the doping concentration due to the S dopant. The obtained formation energies indicate that all S-doped CuAlO2 with different concentrations are structural stability, but the stability decreases with the S doping concentration. Electronic structure calculations present that the band gap decreases with the increasing concentration due to the better hybridization between Cu-3d and S-3p states and the downward shift of Cu-3p states in conduction bands. The covalence of S-doped CuAlO2 is enhanced and the localization is weakened, which are good for p-type conductivity.

As a byproduct of oil refining, petroleum coke with a high carbon content (about 90 wt%) has been shown to be a good raw material for porous carbons (PCs). PCs with high specific surface areas were ...derived from petroleum coke by KOH activation. The effect of KOH/coke mass ratio on the pore structure of the PCs and their electrochemical performance as electrodes of electric double layer capacitors were investigated. Results showed that the specific surface area and pore size distribution of the PCs could be efficiently controlled by the KOH/coke ratio. The pore sizes of the PCs increase with increasing KOH/coke ratio, and the largest specific surface area was as high as 2964 m2·g−1. A PC-5 electrode prepared with a KOH/coke ratio of 5:1 has a high specific surface area of 2 842 m2 ·g−1 and mesoporosity of 67.0 %, and has the largest specific capacitance at all investigated current densities among the PCs examined. This is ascribed to its high specific surface area and high mesoporosity. Hydrothermal modification of PC-3 (KOH/coke ratio at 3:1) in ammonia at 200 oC increases its specific capacitance, especially at high discharge current densities. This improved electrochemical performance can be attributed to nitrogen-doping that occurs during the process, and this can induce pseudo-capacitance and improve the hydrophilicity of the PC electrode to the electrolyte. KOH activation combined with ammonia hydrothermal modification is a simple yet efficient approach to prepare cost-effective PCs for supercapacitors with excellent electrochemical performance.

Background
Postoperative recurrence impedes the curability of early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (E-HCC). We aimed to establish a novel recurrence-related pathological prognosticator with ...artificial intelligence, and investigate the relationship between pathological features and the local immunological microenvironment.
Methods
A total of 576 whole-slide images (WSIs) were collected from 547 patients with E-HCC in the Zhongshan cohort, which was randomly divided into a training cohort and a validation cohort. The external validation cohort comprised 147 Tumor Node Metastasis (TNM) stage I patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Six types of HCC tissues were identified by a weakly supervised convolutional neural network. A recurrence-related histological score (HS) was constructed and validated. The correlation between immune microenvironment and HS was evaluated through extensive immunohistochemical data.
Results
The overall classification accuracy of HCC tissues was 94.17%. The C-indexes of HS in the training, validation and TCGA cohorts were 0.804, 0.739 and 0.708, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that the HS (HR= 4.05, 95% CI: 3.40-4.84) was an independent predictor for recurrence-free survival. Patients in HS high-risk group had elevated preoperative alpha-fetoprotein levels, poorer tumor differentiation and a higher proportion of microvascular invasion. The immunohistochemistry data linked the HS to local immune cell infiltration. HS was positively correlated with the expression level of peritumoral CD14

Conclusions
The study established a novel histological score that predicted short-term and long-term recurrence for E-HCCs using deep learning, which could facilitate clinical decision making in recurrence prediction and management.
The severe damage to health and social burden caused by head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) generated an urgent need to develop novel anti-cancer therapy. Currently, drug repositioning has ...risen in responses to the proper time as an efficient approach to invention of new anti-cancer therapies. In the present study, we aimed to screen candidate drugs for HNSCC by integrating HNSCC-related pathways from differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and drug-affected pathways from connectivity map (CMAP). We also endeavored to unveil the molecular mechanism of HNSCC through creating drug-target network and protein-to-protein (PPI) network of component DEGs in key overlapping pathways. As a result, a total of 401 DEGs were obtained from TCGA and GTEx mRNA-seq data. Taking the intersection part of 27 HNSCC-related Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways and 33 drug-affected pathways, we retained 22 candidate drugs corresponding to two key pathways (cell cycle and p53 signaling pathways) of the five overlapping pathways. Two of the hub genes (PCNA and CCND1) identified from the PPI network of component DEGs in cell cycle and p53 signaling pathways were defined as the critical targets of candidate drugs with increased protein expression in HNSCC tissues, which was reported by the human protein atlas (HPA) database and cBioPortal. Finally, we validated via molecular docking analysis that two drugs with unknown effects in HNSCC: MG-262 and bepridil might perturb the development of HNSCC through targeting PCNA. These candidate drugs possessed broad application prospect as medication for HNSCC.

BackgroundHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is characterized by inflammation and immunopathogenesis. Accumulating evidence has shown that the cystathionine β-synthase/hydrogen sulfide (CBS/H2S) axis is ...involved in the regulation of inflammation. However, roles of CBS in HCC development and immune evasion have not been systematically investigated, and their underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Here, we investigated the roles of CBS in tumor cells and tumor microenvironment of HCC.Methods236 HCC samples were collected to detect the expression of CBS, cleaved Caspase-3 and paired related homeobox 2 (PRRX2) and the number of immune cells. HCC cell lines were employed to examine the effects of CBS on cellular viability, apoptosis and signaling in vitro. Cbs heterozygous knockout mice, C57BL/6 mice, nude mice and non-obese diabetic severe combined immunodeficiency mice were used to investigate the in vivo functions of CBS.ResultsDownregulation of CBS was observed in HCC, and low expression of CBS predicted poor prognosis in HCC patients. CBS overexpression dramatically promoted cellular apoptosis in vitro and inhibited tumor growth in vivo. Activation of the Cbs/H2S axis also reduced the abundance of tumor-infiltrating Tregs, while Cbs deficiency promoted Tregs-mediated immune evasion and boosted tumor growth in Cbs heterozygous knockout mice. Mechanistically, CBS facilitated the expression cleaved Caspase-3 in tumor cells, and on the other hand, suppressed Foxp3 expression in Tregs via inactivating IL-6/STAT3 pathway. As a transcription factor of IL-6, PRRX2 was reduced by CBS. Additionally, miR-24-3p was proven to be an upstream suppressor of CBS in HCC.ConclusionsOur results indicate the antitumor function of CBS in HCC by inactivation of the PRRX2/IL-6/STAT3 pathway, which may serve as a potential target for HCC clinical immunotherapy.
