Three nearly degenerate pairs of doublet bands are identified in 131Ba. Two of them, with positive-parity, are interpreted as pseudospin-chiral quartet bands. This is the first time that a complete ...set of chiral doublet bands built on the pseudospin partners π(d5/2,g7/2) is observed. The chiral bands with opposite parity built on 3-quasiparticle configurations are directly connected by many E1 transitions, without involving an intermediary non-chiral configuration. The observed band structures in 131Ba have been investigated by using the reflection-asymmetric particle rotor model. The energies and the electromagnetic transition ratios of the three pairs of doublet bands observed in 131Ba are reproduced and they are interpreted as chiral doublet bands with three-quasiparticle configurations. It is the first time that multiple chiral bands are observed in the presence of enhanced octupole correlations and pseudospin symmetry.

The electromagnetic character of the ΔI=1 transitions connecting the 1- to 0-phonon and the 2- to 1-phonon wobbling bands should be dominated by an E2 component, due to the collective motion of the ...entire nuclear charge. In the present work it is shown, based on combined angular correlation and linear polarization measurements, that the mixing ratios of all analyzed connecting transitions between low-lying bands in 135Pr interpreted as 0-, 1-, and 2-phonon wobbling bands, have absolute values smaller than one. This indicates predominant M1 magnetic character, which is incompatible with the proposed wobbling nature. All experimental observables are instead in good agreement with quasiparticle-plus-triaxial-rotor model calculations, which describe the bands as resulting from a rapid re-alignment of the total angular momentum from the short to the intermediate nuclear axis.

Two new bands have been identified in
137
Nd from a high-statistics JUROGAM II gamma-ray spectroscopy experiment. Constrained density functional theory and particle rotor model calculations are used ...to assign configurations and investigate the band properties, which are well described and understood. It is demonstrated that these two new bands can be interpreted as chiral partners of previously known three-quasiparticle positive- and negative-parity bands. The newly observed chiral doublet bands in
137
Nd represent an important support to the existence of multiple chiral bands in nuclei. The present results constitute the missing stone in the series of Nd nuclei showing multiple chiral bands, which becomes the most extended sequence of odd–even and even-even nuclei presenting multiple chiral bands in the Segré chart.

Several new bands have been identified in 130Ba, among which there is one with band-head spin 8+. Its properties are in agreement with the Fermi-aligned νh11/22, 7/2−523⊗9/2−514 Nilsson ...configuration. This is the first observation of a two-quasiparticle t-band in the A=130 mass region. The t-band is fed by a dipole band involving two additional h11/2 protons. The odd-spin partners of the proton and neutron S-bands and the ground-state band at high spins are also newly identified. The observed bands are discussed using several theoretical models, total Routhians surfaces (TRS), tilted axis cranking (TAC), particle rotor model (PRM) and projected shell model (PSM), which strongly suggest the coexistence of prolate and oblate shapes polarized by rotation aligned two-proton and two-neutron configurations, as well as prolate collective rotations around axes with different orientations. With the new results, 130Ba presents one of the best and most complete sets of collective excitations that a γ-soft nucleus can manifest at medium and high spins, revealing a diversity of shapes and rotations for the nuclei in the A=130 mass region.

A semi-thick target method has been used to measure the stopping power for recoils produced in the super(120)Sn( super(14)N, 5n) super(129)La, super(120)Sn( super(11)B, 4n) super(127)Cs and ...super(118)Sn( super(11)B, 4n) super(125)Cs reactions by gamma -ray lineshape analysis. The target quality and thickness (1.2 mg/cm super(2)) were determined by the Rutherford backscattering spectrometry technique. Electronic and nuclear stopping-power parameters were determined for Cs and La ions in Sn and compared with parameters measured with the same method for Pm, Sm and Nd ions in Cd and I ions in Ag. A comparison with the LSS theory was made for the energy range below 0.2 MeV/nucleon, where the Bethe-Bloch formula has no application.

Multi-fragment decays of
129Xe,
197Au and
238U projectiles in collisions with Be, C, Al, Cu, In, Au and U targets at energies between
E
A
= 400
and 1000 MeV have been studied with the ALADIN ...forward-spectrometer at SIS. By adding an array of 84 SiCsI(Tl) telescopes the solid-angle coverage of the setup was extended to
θ
lab = 16°. This permitted the complete detection of fragments from the projectile-spectator source.
The dominant feature of the systematic set of data is the
Z
bound universality that is obeyed by the fragment multiplicities and correlations. These observables are invariant with respect to the entrance channel if plotted as a function of
Z
bound, where
Z
bound is the sum of the atomic numbers
Z
i
of all projectile fragments with
Z
i
⩾ 2. No significant dependence on the bombarding energy nor on the target mass is observed. The dependence of the fragment multiplicity on the projectile mass follows a linear scaling law.
The reasons for and the limits of the observed universality of spectator fragmentation are explored within the realm of the available data and with model studies. It is found that the universal properties should persist up to much higher bombarding energies than explored in this work and that they are consistent with universal features exhibited by the intranuclear cascade and statistical multifragmentation models.

Evidence for chiral doublet bands has been observed for the first time in the even-even nucleus Nd136. One chiral band was firmly established. Four other candidates for chiral bands were also ...identified, which can contribute to the realization of the multiple pairs of chiral doublet bands (MχD) phenomenon. The observed bands are investigated by the constrained and tilted axis cranking covariant density functional theory (TAC-CDFT). Possible configurations have been explored. The experimental energy spectra, angular momenta, and B(M1)/B(E2) values for the assigned configurations are globally reproduced by TAC-CDFT. Calculated results support the chiral interpretation of the observed bands, which correspond to shapes with maximum triaxiality induced by different multiquasiparticle configurations in Nd136.

One new pair of positive-parity chiral doublet bands have been identified in the odd-A nucleus Nd-135 which together with the previously reported negative-parity chiral doublet bands constitute a ...third case of multiple chiral doublet (M chi D) bands in the A approximate to 130 mass region. The properties of the M chi D bands are well reproduced by constrained covariant density functional theory and particle rotor model calculations. The newly observed M chi D bands in Nd-135 represents an important milestone in supporting the existence of M chi D in nuclei.

The nature of two high-spin bands in Nd-136 built on the two-quasiparticle configuration pi h(11/2)(2), predicted by the triaxial projected shell model as good candidates of transverse wobbling ...bands, are investigated experimentally. The mixing ratio of one Lambda I = 1 transition connecting the one-phonon and the zero-phonon wobbling bands is established from a high-statistics JuroGam II gamma-ray spectroscopy experiment by using the combined angular correlation and linear polarization method. The resulting wobbling excitation energy and ratios of reduced electromagnetic transition probabilities are in good agreement with results of a new particle-rotor model which rigidly couples the total angular momentum of two quasiparticles to a triaxial core in an orthogonal geometry, confirming thus the transverse wobbling nature of the bands.
