Two magnetic trackers are described in this paper. The first one is fully magnetic and has 1 meter range. This device can measure distance with 1 mm resolution and 1 cm total accuracy. The second ...system is a hybrid tracker using active magnetic ranger, three optical gyros and three micromachined inclinometers. It has 15 m range and for distances below 5 m the position accuracy is 50cm. The heading error is below 0.1 deg.
The paper addresses the problem of iterative soft-information measure supported synchronization. We use a subspace based model for the arbitrarily time-variant MIMO channel. The channel subspace can ...have arbitrary dimension allowing to model also a fast time-variant channel. The equivalence between expectation-maximization based iterative synchronizer and weighted least squares problem is demonstrated to hold for general MIMO system. We introduce the idea of adaptive subspace control during the iterative synchronization iterations using the order recursive solver. This allows to use a coarse subspace (low dimension) at initial iterations while fine subspace (higher dimension) for later iterations. We show that the asymptotic properties of the estimate (MSE) are not affected. The reduction of the dimensionality of the estimator at the beginning of procedure lowers substantially the complexity
In this paper, we present the extended transfer bound analysis for the error performance of a general trellis code in the channel with the overall correlated continuous valued nuisance parameters. We ...introduce proper parameter model and include it into a new extended form of the transfer function. In this way, both, the new additional parameter space and the original error space are incorporated into system error analysis. An example application with simple trellis code and Rayleigh fading channel is investigated in order to demonstrate the functionality of the principle. Computer simulation results are presented for two different codes and various fading scenarios, and comparisons are made among analytical and measured system error performances. We solve the problem of iterative expectation-maximization (EM) based information measure directed (IMD) synchronization in fast time-variant environment. We identified correspondence between the EM ...iterator and the weighted least squares (LS) problem. An order recursive form of the LS iterator reduces the implementation complexity. The channel coefficients are allowed to change arbitrarily up to the granularity of the symbol period. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is an important cause of worldwide morbidity and mortality. Its complex pathogenesis includes, on the one hand, sedentary lifestyle and high caloric intake, and, on the ...other hand, there is a clear genetic predisposition. PD (Polydactylous rat) is an animal model of hypertriglyceridemia, insulin resistance, and obesity. To unravel the genetic and pathophysiologic background of this phenotype, we compared morphometric and metabolic parameters as well as liver transcriptomes among PD, spontaneously hypertensive rat, and Brown Norway (BN) strains fed a high-fat diet (HFD). After 4 weeks of HFD, PD rats displayed marked hypertriglyceridemia but without the expected hepatic steatosis. Moreover, the PD strain showed significant weight gain, including increased weight of retroperitoneal and epididymal fat pads, and impaired glucose tolerance. In the liver transcriptome, we found 5480 differentially expressed genes, which were enriched for pathways involved in fatty acid beta and omega oxidation, glucocorticoid metabolism, oxidative stress, complement activation, triacylglycerol and lipid droplets synthesis, focal adhesion, prostaglandin synthesis, interferon signaling, and tricarboxylic acid cycle pathways. Interestingly, the PD strain, contrary to SHR and BN rats, did not express the
(acyl-CoA synthetase medium-chain family member 3) gene in the liver. Together, these results suggest disturbances in fatty acid utilization as a molecular mechanism predisposing PD rats to hypertriglyceridemia and fat accumulation.

Outcomes of total knee replacement in cases of hemophilic patients are worse than in patients who undergo operations due to osteoarthritis. Previous publications have reported varying rates of ...complications in hemophilic patients, such as infection and an unsatisfactory range of motion, which have influenced the survival of prostheses. Our retrospective study evaluated the data of hemophilic patients regarding changes in the development of the range of motion.
The data and clinical outcomes of 72 total knee replacements in 45 patients with hemophilia types A and B were reviewed retrospectively. Patients were operated between 1998 and 2013. All of the patients were systematically followed up to record the range of motion and other parameters before and after surgery.
The mean preoperative flexion contracture was 17° ± 11° (range, 0°-40°), and it was 7° ± 12° (range, 0°-60°) postoperatively. The mean flexion of the knee was 73° ± 30° (range, 5°-135°) before the operation and 80° ± 19° (range, 30°-110°) at the last follow-up. The mean range of motion was 56° ± 34° (range, 0°-130°) before the operation and 73° ± 24° (range, 10°-110°) at the last follow-up.
Statistical analysis suggested that the range of motion could be improved until the 9th postoperative week. The patient should be operated on until the flexion contracture reaches 22° to obtain a contracture < 15° postoperatively or until the contracture reaches 12° to obtain less than 5°. The operation generally does not change the flexion of the knee in cases of hemophilic patients, but it reduces the flexion contracture and therefore improves the range.
