--Eric Montgomery is based in East Lansing, MI --Christian Vannier is based in Flint, MI --Tim Landry is based in Hartford, CT -- The editors of this volume are early in their careers but are making ...clear and valuable contributions to the field. They are rising stars in a field where it is difficult to make a mark, and they are generous in their inclusion of precariously-positioned scholars and docrotal candidates in this work. -- As religious systems, Vodún, Vodu, and Vodou share an open adaptability which encourages creativity, experimentation, and integration. This adaptability allows the conversation in this collection to move beyond "Africanness" and "European influences" to instead examine how political economies, histories, ritual practices, and migrations produce and reproduce the spirits and the values and practices that surround them. -- The collection will appeal to scholars and students of anthropology, sociology, Atlantic and diasporic history, African studies, Caribbean studies, anthropology of religion, and global studies. While there are few courses which focus particularly on Vodún and Vodou throughout an entire semester, each chapter has been written to appeal to course instructors and to upper-level undergraduates for inclusion in course packets. For this reason, the collection would also appeal to those with a general interest in the topic.
The possibility to introduce cerium in the perovskite-type titanate with formula La0.33Sr0.67TiO3+δ (LST) was investigated. Pure-phased La0.23Ce0.1Sr0.67TiO3+δ (LCST) was only obtained by synthesis ...at high temperature in reducing (diluted hydrogen) atmosphere. The material exhibits the same orthorhombic symmetry with Immm space group as LST and nearly the same cell volume. When exposed to oxidizing atmosphere at 1200 °C, Ti3+ and Ce3+ oxidation leads to the decomposition of LCST and the growth of several nanoscaled Ce-rich phases, as highlighted by backscattered electron microscopy. Shifting the gas back to a reducing atmosphere, but at lower temperature, only involves partial reversibility, ensuring the presence of nanoparticles of (electro)catalytically active phase within an electronically conducting n-type network. The catalytic tests in methane steam reforming at 900 °C (CH4/H2O = 10/1) show that the properties of the partially decomposed phase are greatly improved, what could make it a promising anode material for SOFC operating on slightly wet methane.

Alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) is a devastating complication of alcohol use disorder (AUD). Once it develops, ALD is exceedingly difficult to treat; it therefore is critical to identify ways ...to prevent ALD. By treating the causes of increased alcohol consumption, psychotherapy may offer prophylactic benefit against the development of ALD for patients with AUD.
In this retrospective cohort study, we used International Classification of Diseases, 9th and 10th revision, codes to identify 9635 patients with AUD in the Mass General Brigham Biobank. The mean follow-up period from AUD diagnosis was 9.2 years. We used Cox regression models to generate hazard ratios (HR) for the development of ALD given the receipt or nonreceipt of psychotherapy, adjusting for a range of other contributors including the receipt of medication-assisted treatment.
In our cohort, 60.4% of patients were men, 83.5% of patients were white, the median age was 57.0 years, and 3544 patients (36.8%) received psychotherapy. ALD developed in 1135 patients (11.8%). In multivariable analysis, psychotherapy was associated with a reduced rate of ALD (HR, 0.59; 95% CI, 0.50-0.71; P < .001). This association held for both individual psychotherapy (HR, 0.70; 95% CI, 0.56-0.86; P < .001) and group psychotherapy (HR, 0.76; 95% CI, 0.61-0.94; P = .01). Among patients with cirrhosis, psychotherapy was associated with a lower rate of hepatic decompensation (HR, 0.68; 95% CI, 0.48-0.95; P = .03).
The receipt of psychotherapy in the setting of AUD is associated with reduced incidence and progression of ALD. Given the safety and potential benefit of psychotherapy, clinicians should consider using it to prevent the development of ALD.
Background
Guidelines recommend the use of genomic assays such as OncotypeDx to aid in decisions regarding the use of chemotherapy for hormone receptor–positive, HER2‐negative (HR+/HER2−) breast ...cancer. The RSClin prognostic tool integrates OncotypeDx and clinicopathologic features to predict distant recurrence and chemotherapy benefit, but further validation is needed before broad clinical adoption.
Methods
This study included patients from the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB) who were diagnosed with stage I–III HR+/HER2− breast cancer from 2010 to 2020 and received adjuvant endocrine therapy with or without chemotherapy. RSClin‐predicted chemotherapy benefit was stratified into low (<3% reduction in distant recurrence), intermediate (3%–5%), and high (>5%). Cox models were used to model mortality adjusted for age, comorbidity index, insurance, and race/ethnicity.
Results
A total of 285,441 patients were identified for inclusion from the NCDB, with an average age of 60 years and a median follow‐up of 58 months. Chemotherapy was associated with improved overall survival only for those predicted to have intermediate (adjusted hazard ratio aHR, 0.68; 95% confidence interval CI, 0.60–0.79) and high benefit per RSClin (aHR, 0.66; 95% CI, 0.61–0.72). Consistent benefit was seen in the subset with a low OncotypeDx score (<26) and intermediate (aHR, 0.66; 95% CI, 0.53–0.82) or high (aHR, 0.71; 95% CI, 0.58–0.86) RSClin‐predicted benefit. No survival benefit with chemotherapy was seen in patients with a high OncotypeDx score (≥26) and low benefit per RSClin (aHR, 1.70; 95% CI, 0.41–6.99).
Conclusions
RSClin may identify high‐risk patients who benefit from treatment intensification more accurately than OncotypeDx, and further prospective study is needed.
Although developed to predict distant recurrence rates, RSClin predictions correlate well with overall survival for patients receiving endocrine therapy with or without chemotherapy. RSClin may better identify high‐risk patients who benefit from chemotherapy than OncotypeDx score alone, and further prospective study is needed.

In this work, we present the first AMBER observations, of the Wolf-Rayet and
O (WR+O) star binary system y2 Velorum. The AMBER instrument was used with the
telescopes UT2, UT3, and UT4 on baselines ...ranging from 46m to 85m. It delivered
spectrally dispersed visibilities, as well as differential and closure phases,
with a resolution R = 1500 in the spectral band 1.95-2.17 micron. We interpret
these data in the context of a binary system with unresolved components,
neglecting in a first approximation the wind-wind collision zone flux
contribution. We show that the AMBER observables result primarily from the
contribution of the individual components of the WR+O binary system. We discuss
several interpretations of the residuals, and speculate on the detection of an
additional continuum component, originating from the free-free emission
associated with the wind-wind collision zone (WWCZ), and contributing at most
to the observed K-band flux at the 5% level. The expected absolute separation
and position angle at the time of observations were 5.1±0.9mas and
66±15° respectively. However, we infer a separation of
3.62+0.11-0.30 mas and a position angle of 73+9-11°. Our analysis thus
implies that the binary system lies at a distance of 368+38-13 pc, in agreement
with recent spectrophotometric estimates, but significantly larger than the
Hipparcos value of 258+41-31 pc.
The DL5 sintering strand commissioneed on May 18, 1976, at the Ougree works of the Belgian Company Cockerill SA, is the second of the integrated type built by Delattre-Levivier in Belgium. The third ...strand, at Forges de Thy Marcinelle near Charleroi, has been commissioned in November 1977. Sintering with "integrated" or on-strand cooling is characterised by rapid and gradual cooling achieved without the break-up of the sinter cake after sintering. It yields a closely-graded sifter without too many large lumps at the discharge end and with a uniform reoxidation. This type of strand also makes it possible to achieve substantial main tenance savings and a lower sinter cost. The DL 5 strand at Ougree is capable of producing 12,000t/day, which corresponds to a productivity of 38.5t/m^sup 2^/day with an appropriate mix. During the year 1976 the output was limited at 8400t/day because of the bad economic conditions of the steel market.
75 eyes underwent intracapsular cataract extraction with primary Choyce Mk IX anterior chamber lens implantation. None of these eyes had a traumatic or a secondary cataract, and follow up ranged from ...3 to 27 months, 6 months or more for 80% of the eyes. Final visual acuity was 3/6 or better for 67 eyes (89,3%). The most frequent cause of poor final VA was cystoid macular edema in 4 cases (i.e., a 6,7% rate of significant CME). One lens was removed because it was too short and unstable with no adverse effect on the eye. One case of chronic severe corneal epithelial dystrophy occurred after uneventful surgery in a patient who had been treated for facial pain by chemical destruction of trigeminal nerve. Retinal detachment occurred in two eyes, and was successfully reattached by surgery. The presence of the implant posed no added difficulty in performing scleral buckling. In one eye, severe hypertension occurred post-operatively, this has been controlled by medical therapy and until now the eye retains very good vision. It is to be noted that in this case vitreous loss occurred at the time of lens implantation surgery. Growing experience helped us to deal effectively with the specific problems posed by these lenses, all of them in fact minor and easily controlled: iris tuck if the eye is too soft and the air bubble too large, propeller phenomenon if the implant is too short, and eye tenderness if it is too long. Our results ate very encouraging and remain good for those of our patients whose follow up is longer than 18 months.

AMBER is the first near infrared focal instrument of the VLTI. It combines three telescopes and produces spectrally resolved interferometric measures. This paper discusses some preliminary results of ...the first scientific observations of AMBER with three Unit Telescopes at medium (1500) and high (12000) spectral resolution. We derive a first set of constraints on the structure of the circumstellar material around the Wolf Rayet gamma Velorum and the LBV eta Carinae.

We report on interferometric AMBER/VLTI observations of the recurrent nova RS Oph five days after its outburst on 2006 Feb 12. Using three baselines from 44 to 86m, and a spectral resolution of 1500, ...we measured the extension of the emission in the K band continuum and in the BrG and HeI2.06 micron lines. The continuum visibilities were interpreted by fitting simple geometric models consisting of uniform and Gaussian ellipses, ring and binary models. The visibilities and differential phases in the BrG line were interpreted using skewed ring models aiming to perform a limited parametric reconstruction of the extension and kinematics of the line forming region. The limited uv coverage does not allow discrimination between filled models and rings. Binary models are discarded because the measured closure phase in the continuum is close to zero. The visibilities in the lines are at a low level compared to their nearby continuum, consistent with a more extended line forming region for HeI2.06 than BrG. The ellipse models for the continuum and for the lines are highly flattened and share the same position angle. Two radial velocity fields are apparent in the BrG line: a 'slow' expanding ring-like structure (v~1800km/s), and a 'fast' structure extended in the E-W direction (v~2500-3000km/s). These results confirm the basic fireball model, contrary to the conclusions of other interferometric observations conducted by Monnier et al. (2006).
Guanine rich regions of oligonucleotides fold into quadruple-stranded structures called G-quadruplexes (G4s). Increasing evidence suggests that these G4 structures form in vivo and play a crucial ...role in cellular processes. However, their direct observation in live cells remains a challenge. Here we demonstrate that a fluorescent probe (DAOTA-M2) in conjunction with fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) can identify G4s within nuclei of live and fixed cells. We present a FLIM-based cellular assay to study the interaction of non-fluorescent small molecules with G4s and apply it to a wide range of drug candidates. We also demonstrate that DAOTA-M2 can be used to study G4 stability in live cells. Reduction of FancJ and RTEL1 expression in mammalian cells increases the DAOTA-M2 lifetime and therefore suggests an increased number of G4s in these cells, implying that FancJ and RTEL1 play a role in resolving G4 structures in cellulo.
