...SPTpol survey to the SPT-SZ three-frequency 2540 deg

survey, we substantially reduce the uncertainties in these bands. These power spectra include contributions from the primary cosmic microwave background, cosmic infrared background, radio galaxies, and thermal and kinematic Sunyaev–Zel’dovich (SZ) effects. The data favor a thermal SZ (tSZ) power at 143 GHz of
and a kinematic SZ (kSZ) power of
. This is the first measurement of kSZ power at ≥3
σ
. However, different assumptions about the CIB or SZ models can reduce the significance down to 2.4
σ
in the worst case. We study the implications of the measured kSZ power for the epoch of reionization under the Calabrese et al. model for the kSZ power spectrum and find the duration of reionization to be

The Lucy Mission to the Trojan asteroids in Jupiter’s orbit carries an instrument named L’Ralph, a visible/near infrared multi-spectral imager and a short wavelength infrared hyperspectral imager. It ...is one of the core instruments on Lucy, NASA’s first mission to the Trojans. L’Ralph’s primary purpose is to map the surface geology and composition of these objects, but it will also be used to search for possible tenuous exospheres. It is compact, low mass (32.3 kg), power efficient (24.5 W), and robust with high sensitivity and excellent imaging. These characteristics, and its high degree of redundancy, make L’Ralph ideally suited to this long-duration multi-flyby reconnaissance mission.

Studying potential dietary exposure to antimicrobial drug residues via meat and dairy products is essential to ensure human health and consumer safety. When studying how antimicrobial residues in ...food impact the development of antimicrobial drug resistance and disrupt normal bacteria community structure in the intestine, there are diverse methodological challenges to overcome. In this study, traditional cultures and molecular analysis techniques were used to determine the effects of tetracycline at chronic subinhibitory exposure levels on human intestinal microbiota using an in vitro continuous flow bioreactor. Six bioreactor culture vessels containing human fecal suspensions were maintained at 37 °C for 7 days. After a steady state was achieved, the suspensions were dosed with 0, 0.015, 0.15, 1.5, 15, or 150 µg/mL tetracycline, respectively. Exposure to 150 µg/mL tetracycline resulted in a decrease of total anaerobic bacteria from 1.9 × 107 ± 0.3 × 107 down to 2 × 106 ± 0.8 × 106 CFU/mL. Dose-dependent effects of tetracycline were noted for perturbations of tetB and tetD gene expression and changes in acetate and propionate concentrations. Although no-observed-adverse-effect concentrations differed, depending on the traditional cultures and the molecular analysis techniques used, this in vitro continuous flow bioreactor study contributes to the knowledge base regarding the impact of chronic exposure of tetracycline on human intestinal microbiota.
This paper describes a rapid and robust method utilizing microwave-assisted derivatization, automated SPE, and LC-MS/MS for the quantitation and confirmation of chloramphenicol (CAP) and nitrofuran ...metabolites in various aquaculture matrixes. The use of equipment presented in this work allowed extractions to be completed on average within 6 h, with quantitation accuracy ranging from 89 to 107% and RSD≤8.3%. The demonstrated detection limits for all the nitrofuran metabolites of interest in three different matrixes were ≤0.06 ng/g, with a quantitation limit of ≤0.2 ng/g. Additionally, the method exhibited a CAP detection limit for all matrixes≤0.01 ng/g and an LOQ of ≤0.03 ng/g.

The use of veterinary drugs in honey bees for the prevention of infectious disease is ever increasing due to the spread of colony collapse disorder around the world. The United States Food and Drug ...Administration is concerned about the presence of these drugs residues in honey as they often lead to health concerns or potential antibiotic resistance. Currently there is a need for a rapid screening method for the detection of veterinary drugs in honey. Herein is a method that utilizes automated solid-phase extraction that is directly coupled to a mass spectrometer for the quantitative screening of 12 different regulated sulfonamides in honey. Identification of the residues was performed using tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) with a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. The acquisition method developed for this analysis can extract with the automated solid-phase extraction system and analyze a single sample on the mass spectrometer in approximately 20 s, with minimal sample preparation. A target testing limit of 10 ng/g in honey for the sulfonamides was used based upon action limits set for other food commodities regulated by the United States Food and Drug Administration. A complete method validation procedure was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of this quantitative screening method.

The Balloon Experimental Twin Telescope for Infrared Interferometry (BETTII) is a new balloon-borne far-infrared interferometer, being designed to provide spatially-resolved spectroscopy in the far ...infrared (30-90 μm). The combination of an 8-meter baseline with a double-Fourier Michelson interferometer allows the identification and separation of closely-spaced astronomical sources, while also providing a low-resolution spectrum for each source. In this wavelength range, BETTII will provide subarcsecond angular resolution, a capability unmatched by other far-infrared facilities. This paper provides an overview of the entire design of the BETTII experiment, with a short discussion of the predicted performance on flight.

This paper describes a rapid and robust method utilizing a single liquid-liquid extraction for the quantitation and confirmation of chloramphenicol, florfenicol, and nitrofuran metabolites in honey. ...This methodology combines two previous extraction methods into a single extraction procedure and utilizes matrix-matched calibration standards and stable isotopically labeled standards to improve quantitation. The combined extraction procedure reduces the average extraction time by >50% when compared with previously used procedures. The drug residues were determined using two separate LC-tandem MS conditions. Validation of all the analytes was performed, with average quantitation ranging from 92 to 105% for all analytes and the RSDs for all analytes being ≤12%.

Background
An interlaboratory study was conducted to test a published, peer-reviewed manuscript in the Journal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL Vol 98, No. 3, 2015, “Quantitation of Chloramphenicol and ...Nitrofuran Metabolites in Aquaculture Products Using Microwave-Assisted Derivatization, Automated Solid-Phase Extraction, and LC-MS/MS.”
Objective
The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the performance of the method in shrimp, cobia, and croaker matrices.
Method
Three U.S. Food and Drug Administration laboratories participated in the collaborative study. The laboratories tested matrix blanks and laboratory-fortified matrix blanks at various levels in three separate matrices. The method evaluation included determination of the LOQ, accuracy, and precision.
Results
The reproducibility and repeatability of the RSD, % levels for matrix spikes fortified below the action level were < 10% for all residues in shrimp, < 13% for all residues in cobia except for 3-amino-2-oxazolidinone which was ≤ 22%, and < 16% for croaker. The RSD, % levels for all other spikes in the study were < 14%. Average percent recoveries for all matrices ranged from 81.6% – 102%.
Conclusions
The study demonstrated that the method is acceptable for use for the combined determination of chloramphenicol and nitrofuran metabolites in the study matrices.

We present evidence that the optically unidentified radio source FIRST J121839.7+295325 may be strongly lensing a background galaxy. We estimate the redshift of the assumed gravitational arc, ...discovered in parallel imaging with HST, from MMT-Blue Channel spectroscopy to be image. We present lens models with an Einstein radius of image which contains a mass of image M sub(image), where the uncertainty reflects the range of possible lens redshifts. The putative lens is not detected to image mag and image mag in our MMT-SWIRC imaging. Using the flux limits from WFPC2 and SWIRC, we estimate that the dynamical mass-to-light ratio of J121839.7+295325 is image M sub(image) image for image mag, and this lower limit could be as high as 30 M sub(image) image for image mag. Since the radio source is optically unidentified (image mag) and has a radio flux of image mJy, it is likely a massive early-type galaxy which hosts a radio- loud AGN at image. However, the present data cannot uniquely determine the mass-to-light ratio of the lensing galaxy, and hence the possibility that this system may be a reasonably dark lens is not ruled out.
