This paper deals with an innovating pulsewidth modulation (PWM) strategy allowing reduction of the DC input current ripples in classical operating area of adjustable-speed drives, and also ...maintaining a good quality of AC current waveforms and limited switching losses in the inverter. Thus, such a strategy is an interesting solution within embedded systems. Theoretical principles of the proposed method are introduced. Then, simulation results highlight the benefits of this algorithm compared to classical PWM control. Finally, a DSP-base implementation has been performed, and effectiveness of this strategy is confirmed by experiments for a starter-generator application.
From January to April 2015, Réunion experienced a major outbreak of acute haemorrhagic conjunctivitis (AHC) caused by coxsackievirus A24, which heavily impacted the healthcare system. According to ...the general practitioners' (GP) sentinel network, the number of medical consultations due to conjunctivitis during this period was estimated at ca 100,000. This report describes the characteristics of the outbreak, which were obtained through several different yet complementary surveillance systems on the island. These included the network of hospital emergency departments (OSCOUR network), the GPs' sentinel network, an Internet-based population cohort ('Koman i lé') participating in a survey on distinct symptoms including 'red eyes' and the monitoring of eye drop sales. Overall the results of the different surveillance approaches were in good agreement regarding the outbreak dynamic. A peak of patients with conjunctivitis was detected in the first 15 days of March (week 10 and 11), coinciding with increased eye drop sales on the island. Strains recovered from outbreak cases belonged to genotype IV and were most closely related to strains identified in AHC outbreaks in China, Egypt and Japan since 2010. Continued surveillance of AHC in Réunion remains important not only locally, but also because frequent exchanges between the island and mainland France may lead to introduction of this virus in Europe.
Between August and November 2012 a severe outbreak of gastroenteritis occurred on Réunion Island, affecting more than 50,000 cases, particularly young children. Virological analyses showed that the ...virus responsible for this epidemic was rotavirus. Genotyping of stool samples indicated circulation of rotavirus type G3P8 but also G12P8, highlighting the risk of global emergence of this genotype in the coming years.

In March 2010, a new outbreak of chikungunya infection was detected in the west of Reunion Island. An investigation was launched to describe the incident cases occurrence and to raise hypotheses on factors that could explain the occurrence of this outbreak. All probable or confirmed cases detected by the surveillance system in the western area between March 1st and July 2nd, 2010 were included in the investigation. A standardized questionnaire was performed by phone, including sociodemographic, environmental and behaviour data. A total of 74 cases were described (i.e. response rate of 72%). They were mainly women (sex ratio M/F=0.7), all ages were represented. Most of them (76%) resided in a house; 31% had recently moved, including 22% from metropolitan France. They reported to have been more exposed to mosquitoes and to infected patients than during the major epidemic of 2005–2006. In addition, 41% reported to have reduced their protection against mosquitoes. The results suggest that several concomitant factors contributed to this outbreak: the reintroduction of the chikungunya virus in the island, the population characteristics and environmental factors.

The main task of the Target Tracker detector of the long baseline neutrino oscillation OPERA experiment is to locate in which of the target elementary constituents, the lead/emulsion bricks, the ...neutrino interactions have occurred and also to give calorimetric information about each event. The technology used consists in walls of two planes of plastic scintillator strips, one per transverse direction. Wavelength shifting fibres collect the light signal emitted by the scintillator strips and guide it to both ends where it is read by multi-anode photomultiplier tubes. All the elements used in the construction of this detector and its main characteristics are described.

A La Réunion, le risque d’émergence de maladies virales est constitué par plusieurs zoonoses virales qu’il convient de surveiller: infections à virus Sindbis, virus de l’encéphalite japonaise, ...virus Wesselsbron, virus Nipah, virus Zika, virus West Nile, virus de la fièvre de la vallée du Rift. La lutte contre ces maladies virales émergentes (MVE) passe par une détection précoce des cas et donc un système de surveillance doté d’un véritable réseau d’information, d’alerte et de prévention international.
SR 121463A, a potent and selective, orally active, nonpeptide vasopressin V2 receptor antagonist, has been characterized in several in vitro and in vivo models. This compound displayed highly ...competitive and selective affinity for V2 receptors in rat, bovine and human kidney (0.6 < or = Ki nM < or = 4.1). In this latter preparation, SR 121463A potently antagonized arginine vasopressin (AVP)-stimulated adenylyl cyclase activity (Ki = 0.26+/-0.04 nM) without any intrinsic agonistic effect. In autoradiographic experiments performed in rat kidney sections, SR 121463A displaced 3HAVP labeling especially in the medullo-papillary region and confirmed that it is a suitable tool for mapping V2 receptors. In comparison, the nonpeptide V2 antagonist, OPC-31260, showed much lower affinity for animal and human renal V2 receptors and lower efficacy to inhibit vasopressin-stimulated adenylyl cyclase (Ki in the 10 nanomolar range). Moreover, OPC-31260 exhibited a poor V2 selectivity profile and can be considered as a V2/V1a ligand. In normally hydrated conscious rats, SR 121463A induced powerful aquaresis after intravenous (0.003-0.3 mg/kg) or oral (0.03-10 mg/kg) administration. The effect was dose-dependent and lasted about 6 hours at the dose of 3 mg/kg p.o. OPC-31260 had a similar aquaretic profile but with markedly lower oral efficacy. The action of SR 121463A was purely aquaretic with no changes in urine Na+ and K+ excretions unlike that of known diuretic agents such as furosemide or hydrochlorothiazide. In addition, no antidiuretic properties have been detected with SR 121463A in vasopressin-deficient Brattleboro rats. Thus, SR 121463A is the most potent and selective, orally active V2 antagonist yet described and could be a powerful tool for exploring V2 receptors and the therapeutical usefulness of V2 blocker aquaretic agents in water-retaining diseases.
Since January 2012, 20 autochthonous cases of dengue virus (DENV) infection have been identified in Réunion. The first cases were detected on the western coast, but the two co-circulating viruses ...(DENV-1 and DENV-3) seemed to have spread later to different cities of the island. There is a non-negligible risk of increase in viral transmission over the following weeks, so health professionals and public health authorities in Réunion are preparing to face a potential epidemic.
