Following the discovery of the gravitational-wave source GW170817 by three Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO)/Virgo antennae (Abbott et al., 2017a), the MASTER Global Robotic ...Net telescopes obtained the first image of the NGC 4993 host galaxy. An optical transient, MASTER OTJ130948.10-232253.3/SSS17a was later found, which appears to be a kilonova resulting from the merger of two neutron stars (NSs). Here we describe this independent detection and photometry of the kilonova made in white light, and in B, V, and R filters. We note that the luminosity of this kilonova in NGC 4993 is very close to those measured for other kilonovae possibly associated with gamma-ray burst (GRB) 130603 and GRB 080503.
For the first time search for tetrodotoxin (TTX) and its analogues in the extracts of nemerteans using HPLC-MS/MS was performed. TTX analogues were detected in two nemertean species in addition to ...TTX: 7 analogues were detected in the extract of Cephalothrix simula, 3 analogues - in the extract 11-norTTX of Kulikovia manchenkoi. Presence of 5-deoxyTTX, 11-deoxyTTX, 5,6,11-trideoxyTTX and −6(R)-ol in nemerteans was shown for the first time.

Valence tautomer transition occurs mainly in 3d metalorganic complexes with redox-active ligands and makes them potential candidates for single-molecular switches. The transition occurs under ...temperature, pressure, or light-induced stimuli and is strongly affected by the intermolecular interactions. However single-crystal x-ray diffraction is not always applicable to such systems when crystal structure is destroyed upon transition or system is studied in the solution. Such an example is bis(o-semiquinonato) cobalt complex with TEMPO-functionalized iminopyridine ancillary ligand. In this work we apply two complementary techniques-ligand-sensitive Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and metal sensitive Co K-edge x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). In a solid state, a temperature hysteresis of magnetization larger than 40 K was observed upon cyclic cooling-heating. So, the temperature of phase transition upon cooling is about 40 K lower than that upon heating. In solution, the x-ray absorption spectra for high-temperature and low-temperature states were similar to that in the solid form, but the hysteresis was absent. Two methods are can probe valence tautomer transition, but XAS has an advantage for the liquid phase analysis and FTIR has larger sensitivity to the ligand related interactions in solid.
Abstract
This article presents the early results of synchronous multiwavelength observations of one of the brightest gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) GRB 160625B with the detailed continuous fast optical ...photometry of its optical counterpart obtained by MASTER and with hard X-ray and gamma-ray emission, obtained by the Lomonosov and Konus-Wind spacecraft. The detailed photometry led us to detect the quasi-periodical emission components in the intrinsic optical emission. As a result of our analysis of synchronous multiwavelength observations, we propose a three-stage collapse scenario for this long and bright GRB. We suggest that quasiperiodic fluctuations may be associated with forced precession of a self-gravitating rapidly rotating superdense body (spinar), whose evolution is determined by a powerful magnetic field. The spinar’s mass allows it to collapse into a black hole at the end of evolution.
ABSTRACT
We report on results of spectropolarimetry of the afterglow of the long gamma-ray burst GRB 191221B, obtained with SALT/RSS and VLT/FORS2, as well as photometry from two telescopes in the ...MASTER Global Robotic Network, at the MASTER-SAAO (South Africa) and MASTER-OAFA (Argentina) stations. Prompt optical emission was detected by MASTER-SAAO 38 s after the alert, which dimmed from a magnitude (white-light) of ∼10–16.2 mag over a period of ∼10 ks, followed by a plateau phase lasting ∼10 ks and then a decline to ∼18 mag after 80 ks. The light curve shows complex structure, with four or five distinct breaks in the power-law decline rate. SALT/RSS linear spectropolarimetry of the afterglow began ∼2.9 h after the burst, during the early part of the plateau phase of the light curve. Absorption lines seen at ∼6010 and 5490 Å are identified with the Mg ii 2799 Å line from the host galaxy at z = 1.15 and an intervening system located at z = 0.96. The mean linear polarization measured over 3400–8000 Å was ∼1.5 per cent and the mean equatorial position angle (θ) was ∼65°. VLT/FORS2 spectropolarimetry was obtained ∼10 h post-burst, during a period of slow decline (α = −0.44), and the polarization was measured to be p = 1.2 per cent and θ = 60°. Two observations with the MeerKAT radio telescope, taken 30 and 444 d after the GRB trigger, detected radio emission from the host galaxy only. We interpret the light curve and polarization of this long GRB in terms of a slow-cooling forward shock.
Hard X-ray absorption spectroscopy is a valuable in situ probe for non-destructive diagnostics of metal sites. The low-energy interval of a spectrum (XANES) contains information about the metal ...oxidation state, ligand type, symmetry and distances in the first coordination shell but shows almost no dependency on the bridged metal-metal bond length. The higher-energy interval (EXAFS), on the contrary, is more sensitive to the coordination numbers and can decouple the contribution from distances in different coordination shells. Supervised machine-learning methods can combine information from different intervals of a spectrum; however, computational approaches for the near-edge region of the spectrum and higher energies are different. This work aims to keep all benefits of XANES and extend its sensitivity towards the interatomic distances in the first and second coordination shells. Using a binuclear bridged copper complex as a case study and cross-validation analysis as a quantitative tool it is shown that the first 170 eV above the edge are already sufficient to balance the contributions of Cu-O/N scattering and Cu-Cu scattering. As a more general outcome this work highlights the trivial but often overlooked importance of using `longer' energy intervals of XANES for structural refinement and machine-learning predictions. The first 200 eV above the absorption edge still do not require parametrization of Debye-Waller damping and can be calculated within full multiple scattering or finite difference approximations with only moderately increased computational costs.

Tetrodotoxin (TTX) is a potent neurotoxin frequently occurring in marine organisms along with its numerous analogues. To determine the total TTX content, we developed an enzyme-linked immunosorbent ...assay (ELISA) technique utilizing polyclonal antibodies against TTX. The technique was tested using extracts of marine worms of the phylum Nemertea and confirmed by HPLC-MS/MS. It proved to be suitable for a preliminary assessment of the toxicity of marine organisms.
•ELISA technique for quantification of summed TTXs concentration has been developed.•Antibodies against TTXs were obtained by immunization with PHA-TTX conjugate.•The reliability of developed method was confirmed by its comparison with HPLC-MS/MS.

The influence of small amounts of low-density polyethylene, high-density polyethylene, and encapsulated manganese oxide nanoparticles on the mechanical properties and structure of polypropylene ...monofilaments was determined. It is shown that the introduction of small amounts of low-density polyethylene into polypropylene increases the degree of crystallinity of the polymer mixture and decreases the size of the crystallites. It is demonstrated that the strength and uniformity of the structure of monofilaments formed from a mixture of polyolefins do not deteriorate. A technology for creating complex filaments was developed based on polypropylene with a composite material based on low-density polyethylene and manganese-containing nanoparticles introduced into it as a filler. Comprehensive studies of the structure and properties of manganese-containing nanoparticles localized in the volume of low-density polyethylene were carried out. It was established that polypropylene filaments filled with manganese-containing nanocomposites based on low-density polyethylene have a set of improved characteristics: tensile strength increases, surface electrical resistance decreases, the ability to suppress the vital activity of gram-positive pathogenic bacteria and microscopic fungi appears.

We report early optical linear polarization observations of two gamma-ray bursts made with the MASTER robotic telescope network. We found the minimum polarization for GRB 150301B to be 8 per cent at ...the beginning of the initial stage, whereas we detected no polarization for GRB 150413A either at the rising branch or after the burst reached the power-law afterglow stage. This is the earliest measurement of the polarization (in cosmological rest frame) of gamma-ray bursts. The primary intent of the paper is to discover optical emission and publish extremely rare (unique) high-quality light curves of the prompt optical emission of gamma-ray bursts during the non-monotonic stage of their evolution. We report that our team has discovered the optical counterpart of one of the bursts, GRB 150413A.
