Puccinia striiformis causes wheat yield losses in all countries where wheat is cultivated. Virulence and diversity of the P striiformis were assessed in 2013-2018 in South Russia, and this showed ...that the North Caucasian population of the pathogen was diverse. One hundred and eighty two virulence phenotypes were identified in 186 P striiformis isolates. Among isolates collected in 2014, 2015, and 2018, all phenotypes were unique. In the 2013 and 2017 populations, phenotypes with few (one to eight) virulence alleles prevailed. In the 2014, 2015, and 2018 populations, most of the phenotypes contained greater numbers (nine to 19) of virulence alleles. Over the 5 years of research, the pathogen population lacked isolates virulent to the host Yr resistance genes 3, 5, 26, and Sp. Single (from 1 to 5%) occurrences of isolates virulent to host lines with Yr genes 3a, 17, 24, 3b + 4a + H46, and 3c + Min were identified. Differences in frequencies of virulence alleles between years in the P. striiformis populations (Ney indices, N) were generally non-significant (N = 0.11 to 0.23), with the exception of the populations in 2013 and 2017 (N = 0.37). The minimum N values was found for the populations of 2015 and 2018 (N = 0.10). Over the five years of this study, the dynamics of the virulence of the population and jumps in the frequency of isolates with respect to many Yr genes were identified. This feature of the P striiformis populations in South Russia, combined with high phenotypic diversity, indicates the ability for rapid race formation and morphogenesis in response to changes in biotic and abiotic factors.

Two synthetic routes-ion-exchange preparation from layered Na(3)Ni(2)SbO(6) at 300 °C and direct solid-state synthesis at 1150 °C resulted in layered Li(3)Ni(2)SbO(6), a cation-ordered derivative ...from the rocksalt type. The Fddd form reported earlier could not be reproduced. According to the XRD Rietveld analysis, Li(3)Ni(2)SbO(6) is a pseudohexagonal monoclinic structure, C2/m, with a = 5.1828(2) Å, b = 8.9677(3) Å, c = 5.1577(2) Å, β = 109.696(2)°. No Li/Ni mixed occupancy was detected. At high temperatures, the magnetic susceptibility follows the Curie-Weiss law with a positive value of Weiss temperature, ∼8 K, indicating a predominance of ferromagnetic interactions. However, Li(3)Ni(2)SbO(6) orders antiferromagnetically at T(N)∼ 15 K. The effective magnetic moment is 4.3 μ(B)/f.u. which satisfactorily agrees with theoretical estimations assuming high-spin configuration of Ni(2+) (S = 1). Electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra show single Lorentzian shape line attributed to Ni(2+) ion in octahedral coordination. The absorption is characterized by isotropic temperature independent effective g-factor g = 2.150 ± 0.005. In accordance with the layered honeycomb crystal structure determined for Li(3)Ni(2)SbO(6), the superexchange interaction between Ni(2+) ions through Ni-O-Ni pathways within Ni(2)SbO(6) layers are assumed to be ferromagnetic, while the dominant interaction between layers is antiferromagnetic.
Aim of study: To analyze the structure of P. triticina populations by a virulence survey in the North Caucasus region of Russia from 2011 to 2015.Area of study: The North Caucasus region is a leading ...grain production region in Russia where wheat leaf rust causes losses in yield.Material and methods: Uredinial samples of leaf rust were collected in all agro-climatic zones of the North Caucasus on the production sites of winter wheat and on the plots of official state trials. Single uredinial isolates (a total of 564) were tested for virulence with 41 ˈThatcherˈ near isogenic lines with Lr resistance genes.Main results: Clones virulent to Lr9, Lr42, Lr47 and Lr50 were not found. Isolates virulent to the Lr19, Lr24, Lr29, Lr41, Lr43 + 24, Lr45, Lr52 genes were characterized by low frequencies. The 564 fungal isolates studied were represented by 564 virulence phenotypes, the majority of them with a virulence complexity from 9 to 19. A high level of intrapopulation fungus diversity in virulence was noticed during the whole period of research (Shannon diversity index from 2.994 to 3.314). The differences in the frequencies of virulences in the years of research were small (Rogers distance from 0.001 to 0.160).Research highlights: Due to the fact that the North Caucasus region is a zone of epiphytotic danger and high variability of the P. triticina population, the analysis of the genetics of the fungus population is important for the strategy of varietal distribution in the region and development of rust-resistant varieties.

), were obtained using Tauber pollen traps which were placed along a northwest to southeast transect in European Russia. The work was carried out within the framework of the Pollen Monitoring Programme (PMP). The data were analysed using both traditional interpretations of PAR (pollen accumulation rate) values and numerical methods (linear regressions and canonical correspondence analysis, CCA). The various vegetation zones: broadleaved-coniferous forest, broadleaved forest and forest-steppe, differ from each other by the absolute pollen values (PARs) of forest-forming taxa and several wind-pollinated herbs. However, no statistical support for zonal differentiation based on these PARs has been found. The only obvious difference was observed between the forest zone and the forest-steppe. The climatic gradient along the NW–SE transect is reflected by changes in pollen values, but is smoothed due to human influence during past centuries and as a consequence of the dominance of secondary vegetation formations. The highest total PAR, as well as PARs of all the forest-forming taxa, was observed in the southern part of the mixed broadleaved-coniferous forest zone (RU-ZV). The PARs of thermophilic taxa (

Peatlands cover 3% of the land, occur in 169 countries, and have—by sequestering 600 Gt of carbon—cooled the global climate by 0.6 °C. After a general review about peatlands worldwide, this paper ...describes the importance of the Great Vasyugan Mire and presents suggestions about its protection and future research. The World’s largest peatland, the Great Vasyugan Mire in West-Siberia, forms the border between the Taiga and the Forest-Steppe biomes and harbours rare species and mire types and globally unique self-organizing patterns. Current oil and gas exploitation may arguably be largely phased out by 2050, which will pave the way for a stronger focus on the mire’s role in buffering climate change, maintaining ecosystem diversity, and providing other ecosystem services. Relevant new research lines will benefit from the extensive data sets that earlier studies have gathered for other purposes. Its globally unique character as the ‘largest life form on land’ qualifies the Great Vasyugan Mire in its entirety to be designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance.
The effect of temperature and storage time at a constant temperature on the stability of poly-(o-aminophenylene)naphthoylenimide solutions in N-methylpyrrolidone has been analyzed using rotational ...rheometry. A temperature–time window beyond which an irreversible change in the viscoelastic properties of solutions due to cumulative reactions of continuous polymerization and possible intramolecular cyclization has been detected. The influence of polymer concentration and its molecular weight on the rheological properties of solutions determining the choice of methods for their processing into fibers and films has been investigated. The effect of non-solvents (water and ethanol) additives on the rheological properties of solutions and the kinetics of their coagulation has been studied. Dosed addition of non-solvent into the solution promotes a significant increase in the viscoelasticity up to gelation and phase separation. Non-solvent presence in the polymer solutions reduces the activity of the solvent, accelerates the movement of the diffusion front at coagulation, and minimizes the number of macro defects. The combination of parameters under investigation renders it possible for the first time to develop new principles modifying dopes for wet spinning into aqueous or ethanol coagulation bath and finally to obtain a heat- and fire-resistant polynaphthoylenebenzimidazole fibers.

The genomes of worldwide poultry breeds divergently selected for performance and other phenotypic traits may also be affected by, and formed due to, past and current admixture events. Adaptation to ...diverse environments, including acclimation to harsh climatic conditions, has also left selection footprints in breed genomes.
Using the Chicken 50K_CobbCons SNP chip, we genotyped four divergently selected breeds: two aboriginal, cold tolerant Ushanka and Orloff Mille Fleur, one egg-type Russian White subjected to artificial selection for cold tolerance, and one meat-type White Cornish. Signals of selective sweeps were determined in the studied breeds using three methods: (1) assessment of runs of homozygosity islands, (2) F
based population differential analysis, and (3) haplotype differentiation analysis. Genomic regions of true selection signatures were identified by two or more methods or in two or more breeds. In these regions, we detected 540 prioritized candidate genes supplemented them with those that occurred in one breed using one statistic and were suggested in other studies. Amongst them, SOX5, ME3, ZNF536, WWP1, RIPK2, OSGIN2, DECR1, TPO, PPARGC1A, BDNF, MSTN, and beta-keratin genes can be especially mentioned as candidates for cold adaptation. Epigenetic factors may be involved in regulating some of these important genes (e.g., TPO and BDNF).
Based on a genome-wide scan, our findings can help dissect the genetic architecture underlying various phenotypic traits in chicken breeds. These include genes representing the sine qua non for adaptation to harsh environments. Cold tolerance in acclimated chicken breeds may be developed following one of few specific gene expression mechanisms or more than one overlapping response known in cold-exposed individuals, and this warrants further investigation.

Tan spot caused by Pyrenophora tritici-repentis (Died.) Drechsler, in recent years, occupies an increasingly large area on the territory of Russia. Due to the wide distribution and economic ...significance of this disease, the search for resistant plants to the pathogen is relevant. This paper presents the results of a field assessment for 2017–2019 of 34 regionally distributed winter wheat varieties of Russian selection for resistance to P. tritici-repentis in the North Caucasus region of Russia. Field resistance - the development of the disease up to 30% against the background of artificial infection for three years was shown by 20.5% of the studied varieties. Wheat varieties were assessed for resistance to isolates of tan spot identified as races 1, 3, and 4 in the greenhouse at the seedling stage. The number of resistant accessions for each race was different and ranged from 12 to 20. The 12 varieties showed resistance to race 1, 14 varieties to race 3, 20 varieties to race 4. This research showed that the resistance to tan spot of studied varieties was race-specific. A functional allele of the susceptibility gene Tsn1 to P. tritici-repentis isolates, producing the toxin Ptr ToxA, was diagnosed by PCR method. Of the analyzed 34 varieties, 13 had a dominant allele of the Tsn1 (Tsn1+), and 21 had a recessive allele in the tsn1tsn1 homozygous state. All Tsn1+ varieties, and most varieties with recessive alleles tsn1tsn1, were susceptible to tan spot in the field. Varieties Dolya, Gurt, Lebed and Sila, which showed field resistance, had the tsn1tsn1 genotype. The expected reaction of varieties with different allelic composition of the Tsn1 gene to inoculation with the isolate of race 1, according to the generally accepted model of “gene-to-gene” interaction, did not coincide with that observed in reality, which confirms the results obtained by other authors. Research results demonstrate the effect of weather conditions on the susceptibility of wheat varieties to tan spot. In years with higher humidity and higher average air temperatures, the susceptibility response to the disease was observed in more varieties than in drier years. The studies show that the main part (79.5%) of winter wheat varieties of Russian selection widely zoned in the North Caucasus region of Russia are susceptible to P. tritici-repentis. Varieties that have been resistant to the pathogen in the adult phase in the field for three years and to the pathogen races in which the recessive allele of the tsn1 gene has been identified may be of interest as sources of resistance for developing new disease-resistant varieties.

A new approach to the synthesis of polynaphthoylenebenzimidazoles and heat resistant fiber spinning has been developed using an environmentally friendly and energy efficient method, which operates ...with solutions of pre-polymers based on 3,3’,4,4’-tetraaminodiphenyl ether and 1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarboxylic acid dianhydride in N-methylpyrrolidone. Rheological properties of polymer reaction solutions and appropriate coagulant mixtures were investigated for further wet spinning process. The coagulation process was investigated through microscopic observation of solution droplets which imitate jet/fiber cross section surrounded with coagulants of different composition. For the case of the most optimal viscoelastic properties of dopes the best coagulant was found to be a ternary mixture ethanol/water/NMP (20/10/70). Fibers were prepared through the wet spinning from pre-polymers of various molecular weight characterized by intrinsic viscosity. As a result, complex yarns were spun, and their morphology was characterized and mechanical properties were measured. The strength of ~300 MPa and elastic modulus of ~2 GPa and elongation at break of ~20% were reached for the best fibers at average diameter of ~20 µm. After heat treatment “Lola-M” fibers do not burn and do not support combustion in open flame.

The relevance of this study lies in the fact that it addresses the lack of empirical data needed for evidence-informed policy-making in the social, economic, and demographic realms in Moscow and the ...Moscow Oblast. It aims to explore migrants’ emotional and evaluative attitudes toward their social reality, their role in it, and the unique demographic factors influencing their behavior. Specifically, the article seeks to characterize migrants’ social well-being, identify factors detrimental to well-being, and outline conditions that facilitate trust, cooperation, and respect among individuals. The ultimate goal is to enhance socio-demographic well-being, unlocking migrants’ full potential not only for socio-economic and demographic development in the Moscow agglomeration and society but also to help them achieve personal goals. The findings are based on a survey conducted in February–March 2023 in Moscow and Moscow Oblast, involving 766 migrants from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The article analyzes how the problem of well-being is discussed in contemporary academic literature, refines the definition of the key concept, and substantiates the factors influencing the formation of migrants’ social well-being and their demographic attitudes. The article provides an evaluation of the demographic situation in the Moscow agglomeration, along with some insights into the social well-being of migrants and their demographic attitudes. It also identifies problematic areas that pose challenges to the successful social adaptation of migrants.
