Effective detection of electricity theft is essential to maintain power system reliability. With the development of smart grids, traditional electricity theft detection technologies have become ...ineffective to deal with the increasingly complex data on the users’ side. To improve the auditing efficiency of grid enterprises, a new electricity theft detection method based on improved synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE) and improve random forest (RF) method is proposed in this paper. The data of normal and electricity theft users were classified as positive data (PD) and negative data (ND), respectively. In practice, the number of ND was far less than PD, which made the dataset composed of these two types of data become unbalanced. An improved SOMTE based on K-means clustering algorithm (K-SMOTE) was firstly presented to balance the dataset. The cluster center of ND was determined by K-means method. Then, the ND were interpolated by SMOTE on the basis of the cluster center to balance the entire data. Finally, the RF classifier was trained with the balanced dataset, and the optimal number of decision trees in RF was decided according to the convergence of out-of-bag data error (OOB error). Electricity theft behaviors on the user side were detected by the trained RF classifier.

Vehicle exhaust is one of the major organic sources in urban areas. Old taxis equipped with failed three-way catalysts (TWCs) have been regarded as “super emitters”. Compressed natural gas (CNG) is a regular substitution fuel for gasoline in taxis. The relative effect of fuel substitution and TWC failure has not been thoroughly investigated. In this work, vehicle exhausts from gasoline and CNG taxis with optimally functioning and malfunctioning TWCs are sampled by Tenax TA tubes and then analyzed by a comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography-mass spectrometer (GC×GC–MS). A total of 216 organics are quantified, including 80 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and 132 intermediate volatility organic compounds (IVOCs). Failure of TWC introduces super emitters with 30 – 70 times emission factors (EFs), 60 – 112 times ozone formation potentials (OFPs), and 34 – 92 times secondary organic aerosols (SOAs) more than normal vehicles. Specifically, for the taxi with failed TWC, the total organic EF of CNG is 16 times that of gasoline, indicating that the failure of TWC exceeds the emission reduction achieved by CNG-gasoline substitution. A significant but unbalanced reduction of ozone and SOA is observed after TWC, whereas a notable “enrichment” in IVOCs was observed. Naphthalene is a typical IVOC component strongly associated with CNG-gasoline substitution and TWC failure, which is lacking in current VOC measurement. We especially emphasize that there is an urgent need to scrap vehicles with failed TWCs in order to significantly reduce air pollution.

Gene silencing is a natural antiviral defense mechanism in plants. For effective infection, plant viruses encode viral silencing suppressors to counter this plant antiviral response. The ...geminivirus-encoded C4 protein has been identified as a gene silencing suppressor, but the underlying mechanism of action has not been characterized. Here, we report that Cotton Leaf Curl Multan virus (CLCuMuV) C4 protein interacts with S-adenosyl methionine synthetase (SAMS), a core enzyme in the methyl cycle, and inhibits SAMS enzymatic activity. By contrast, an R13A mutation in C4 abolished its capacity to interact with SAMS and to suppress SAMS enzymatic activity. Overexpression of wild-type C4, but not mutant C4R13A, suppresses both transcriptional gene silencing (TGS) and post-transcriptional gene silencing (PTGS). Plants infected with CLCuMuV carrying C4R13A show decreased levels of symptoms and viral DNA accumulation associated with enhanced viral DNA methylation. Furthermore, silencing of NbSAMS2 reduces both TGS and PTGS, but enhanced plant susceptibility to two geminiviruses CLCuMuV and Tomato yellow leaf curl China virus. These data suggest that CLCuMuV C4 suppresses both TGS and PTGS by inhibiting SAMS activity to enhance CLCuMuV infection in plants.

Viruses interfere with and usurp host machinery and circumvent defense responses to create a suitable cellular environment for successful infection. This is usually achieved through interactions ...between viral proteins and host factors. Geminiviruses are a group of plant-infecting DNA viruses, of which some contain a betasatellite, known as DNAβ. Here, we report that Cotton leaf curl Multan virus (CLCuMuV) uses its sole satellite-encoded protein βC1 to regulate the plant ubiquitination pathway for effective infection. We found that CLCuMu betasatellite (CLCuMuB) βC1 interacts with NbSKP1, and interrupts the interaction of NbSKP1s with NbCUL1. Silencing of either NbSKP1s or NbCUL1 enhances the accumulation of CLCuMuV genomic DNA and results in severe disease symptoms in plants. βC1 impairs the integrity of SCFCOI1 and the stabilization of GAI, a substrate of the SCFSYL1 to hinder responses to jasmonates (JA) and gibberellins (GA). Moreover, JA treatment reduces viral accumulation and symptoms. These results suggest that CLCuMuB βC1 inhibits the ubiquitination function of SCF E3 ligases through interacting with NbSKP1s to enhance CLCuMuV infection and symptom induction in plants.

Enhancing gasoline detergency is pivotal for enhancing fuel efficiency and mitigating exhaust emissions in gasoline vehicles. This study investigated gasoline vehicle emission characteristics with ...different gasoline detergency, explored synergistic emission reduction potentials, and developed versatile emission prediction models. The results indicate that improved fuel detergency leads to a reduction of 5.1% in fuel consumption, along with decreases of 3.2% in total CO2, 55.4% in CO, and 15.4% in HC emissions. However, during low-speed driving, CO2 and CO emissions reductions are limited, and HC emissions worsen. A synergistic emission reduction was observed, particularly with CO exhibiting a pronounced reduction compared to HC. The developed deep-learning-based vehicle emission model for different gasoline detergency (DPVEM-DGD) enables accurate emission predictions under various fuel detergency conditions. The Pearson correlation coefficients (Pearson’s r) between predicted and measured values of CO2, CO, and HC emissions before and after adding detergency agents are 0.913 and 0.934, 0.895 and 0.915, and 0.931 and 0.969, respectively. The predictive performance improves due to reduced peak emissions resulting from improved fuel detergency. Elevated gasoline detergency not only reduces exhaust emissions but also facilitates more refined emission management to a certain extent.

Global warming not only affects biodiversity, but also threatens human health and wellbeing. As the main source of greenhouse gas emissions, enterprises play a critical role in carbon emissions ...reduction. However, only a small number of enterprises have disclosed their “low-carbon transition roadmap”, primarily due to the lack of immediate payoffs of green investment, which is disadvantageous to achieve net-zero emissions. First, through case analysis of carbon governance in typical countries around the world, we identify effective emissions reduction measures that firms can learn from. Next, this paper summarizes the multi-dimensional impact framework of corporate carbon emissions reduction. Last, we propose a carbon emissions reduction roadmap for companies from four aspects: companies should 1) actively engage in the carbon emissions trading system, 2) increase the application of green technology, 3) enhance corporate governance structure, and 4) ensure sufficient cash flow for low-carbon transition. This study contributes to the framework of corporate sustainable transition, providing practical references for balancing corporate environmental footprint and value growth.
Electrical power networks consist of numerous energy control zones connected by tie-lines, with the addition of nonconventional sources resulting in considerable variations in tie-line power and ...frequency. Under these circumstances, a load frequency control (LFC) loop gives constancy and security to interconnected power systems (IPSs) by supplying all consumers with high-quality power at a nominal frequency and tie-line power change. This article proposes employing a proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controller to effectively control the frequency in a one-area multi-source power network comprising thermal, solar, wind, and fuel cells and in a thermal two-area tie-line IPS. The particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique was utilized to tune the PID controller parameters, with the integral time absolute error being utilized as an objective function. The efficacy and stability of the PSO-PID controller methodology were further tested in various scenarios for proposed networks. The frequency fluctuations associated with the one-area multi-source power source and with the two-area tie-line IPS’s area 1 and area 2 frequency variations were 59.98 Hz, 59.81 Hz, and 60 Hz, respectively, and, in all other investigated scenarios, they were less than that of the traditional PID controller. The results clearly show that, in terms of frequency responses, the PSO-PID controller performs better than the conventional PID controller.

Flexible yet highly thermoconductive materials are essential for the development of next-generation flexible electronic devices. Herein, we report a bioinspired nanostructured film with the integration of large ductility and high thermal conductivity based on self-exfoliated pristine graphene and three-dimensional aramid nanofiber network. A self-grinding strategy to directly exfoliate flake graphite into few-layer and few-defect pristine graphene is successfully developed through mutual shear friction between graphite particles, generating largely enhanced yield and productivity in comparison to normal liquid-based exfoliation strategies, such as ultrasonication, high-shear mixing and ball milling. Inspired by nacre, a new bioinspired layered structural design model containing three-dimensional nanofiber network is proposed and implemented with an interconnected aramid nanofiber network and high-loading graphene nanosheets by a developed continuous assembly strategy of sol–gel-film transformation. It is revealed that the bioinspired film not only exhibits nacre-like ductile deformation behavior by releasing the hidden length of curved aramid nanofibers, but also possesses good thermal transport ability by directionally conducting heat along pristine graphene nanosheets.

Indoor pollutants change over time and place. Exposure to hazardous organics is associated with adverse health effects. This work sampled gaseous organics by Tenax TA tubes in two indoor rooms, i.e., ...an office set as samples, and the room of chassis dynamometer (RCD) set as backgrounds. Compounds are analyzed by a thermal desorption comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography-quadrupole mass spectrometer (TD-GC × GC-qMS). Four new chemicals of emerging concern (CECs) are screened in 469 organics quantified. We proposed a three-step pipeline for CECs screening utilizing GC × GC including 1) non-target scanning of organics with convincing molecular structures and quantification results, 2) statistical analysis between samples and backgrounds to extract useful information, and 3) pixel-based property estimation to evaluate the contamination potential of addressed chemicals. New CECs spotted in this work are all intermediate volatility organic compounds (IVOCs), containing mintketone, isolongifolene, β-funebrene, and (5α)-androstane. Mintketone and sesquiterpenes may be derived from the use of volatile chemical products (VCPs), while (5α)-androstane is probably human-emitted. The occurrence and contamination potential of the addressed new CECs are reported for the first time. Non-target scanning and the measurement of IVOCs are of vital importance to get a full glimpse of indoor organics.
