W 1989 roku Polska znalazła się na drodze systemowych przemian polegających na wdrażaniu postfordowskiego, neoliberalnego kapitalizmu, który swym oddziaływaniem objął przede wszystkim świat pracy, ...czyniąc „elastyczność” kluczowym pojęciem opisującym zmiany w życiu zawodowym, głównie ludzi młodych. Celem artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na znajdującą się na przeciwległym biegunie, pomijaną, choć równie ważną kategorię „stabilności” poprzez odpowiedź na pytania: „W jaki sposób (i dlaczego) młodzi dorośli postrzegają stabilność na rynku pracy?” oraz „Jakie podobieństwa, a jakie różnice dostrzegają młodzi ludzie w postrzeganiu stabilności zawodowej przez siebie i swoich rodziców?”. Analizy indywidualnych wywiadów pogłębionych wykazały, że w zależności od dotychczasowych doświadczeń zawodowych młodzi dorośli dążą do osiągnięcia stabilności, definiując oraz redefiniując jej znaczenie, lub odrzucają stabilność, kwestionując oraz negując jej istnienie. Zarówno dychotomiczne podejście do stabilności zawodowej, jak i wielowymiarowość jej portretowania odróżnia młodych dorosłych od ich rodziców, których postrzeganie stabilności, na podstawie rozmów z ich dorosłymi dziećmi, wydaje się zdecydowanie bardziej jednowymiarowe i homogeniczne.
Wydłużająca się edukacja czy uelastycznienie się rynków pracy powodują, że poszczególne etapy wczesnodorosłego życia młodych ludzi oraz podejmowane role społeczne przenikają się (Wyn, Dwyer 2002; ...Mayer 2005; Biggart, Walther 2006; Kohli 2007; Du Bois-Reymond 2009; Heinz 2009; Mary 2014). Młodzi ludzie wchodzą w dorosłość coraz częściej w sposób nielinearny, doświadczając powrotów do etapów czy sytuacji z przeszłości, co w literaturze zostało opisane jako „tranzycja jojo” (Du Bois-Reymond, López Blasco 2003; Heinz 2009; Walther 2009; Hörschelmann 2011; Borlagdan 2015). „Jojoizacja tranzycji” dotyczy również procesu przechodzenia z edukacji do rynku pracy, które jest coraz bardziej rozciągnięte w czasie, zróżnicowane i trudne do przewidzenia (Walther 2006). Jednym z istotnych zjawisk towarzyszących inicjacji zawodowej współczesnych młodych dorosłych jest mobilność międzynarodowa (King 2018; Robertson, Harris, Baldassar 2018), która znacznie wpływa na kształt ścieżek edukacyjno-zawodowych młodych ludzi.Celem artykułu jest odpowiedź na pytanie o rolę migracji zagranicznych w występowaniu tranzycyjnego efektu jojo. Na bazie studiów przypadku ścieżek edukacyjno-zawodowych migrantów przedstawione zostaną tranzycje ludzi młodych na rodzimy i zagraniczny rynek pracy, zarówno w wymiarze obiektywnym, jak i subiektywnym. Jako metoda analizy posłuży jakościowa adaptacja analizy sekwencji społecznych (Cornwell 2015).
This paper compares the integration of third-country youth in Poland and Hungary in two Central Eastern European contexts characterized by a hostile sociopolitical environment for migrants, ...right-wing policies, illiberalism, and regression in various related policy areas. Our article is based on a three-year EU-funded research project that investigated the integration of migrant youth in precarious circumstances (MIMY). It uses data from qualitative interviews conducted with migrant youth and thus focuses on the migrant’s perspective while exploring how coping and navigating such hostile environments occurs. The analysis is based on the concept of migrant agency in extremely difficult and complex sociopolitical situations. Our findings highlight the particular importance of the latter in these hostile environments. We argue that while the withdrawal of the state from integration has created difficult contexts for migrant youth, they exhibit different forms of agency, enabling them to adapt to opportunity structures. While these forms of agency are important and real, the structural constraints imposed by hostile states’ anti-immigration and anti-integration attitudes significantly limit migrants’ options for coping with everyday life.
The key aim of this paper is to explore the impact of migration experiences on the career trajectories of Polish returning migrants. Focusing on the intersection between career and migration studies, ...we aim to answer the following research questions: (1) What are the shapes of returning migrants’ career trajectories?; (2) What is their sense of stability in the labour market? and (3) Are returning migrants able to transfer skills that they gained working abroad? If yes, which one and how it depends on the shape of their career trajectories? Based on the qualitative study of Polish migrants who returned from the UK, we have distinguished four types of career trajectories: ascending career, highly diversified career, fragmented career and steady career. Building a typology of returning migrants’ careers, we considered whole trajectories (the situation before, during and after migration) and both vertical and horizontal labour market mobility.

International mobility has become a significant part of the life experiences of a growing number of Polish youths since the enlargement of the EU in 2004, influencing young people's transitions from ...education to work or transitions across different labour markets. The key aim of this paper is to explore socio-occupational sequences of young people considering spatial and temporal dynamism of the process of mobility. Focusing on the intersection between youth and migration studies, we aim to answer the following research questions: (1) What are the socio-occupational sequences of young people 'on the move'? (2) How mobility capacities and imperatives determine the flow of sequences and (3) How mobility patterns collocate with sequences' shapes? Based on Social Sequence Analysis, we have distinguished four types of 'mobile sequences' of young adults: (1) the 'upward sequence' when spatial mobility accelerates social mobility; (2) the 'yo-yo sequence', where transnational mobility causes 'return social mobility'; (3) the 'zigzag sequence', involving up-and-down patterns in social mobility; (4) the 'flat sequence', where spatial mobility has no impact on the objective dimension of socio-occupational sequences, but mobility strongly influences human capital.

= 544) who had spent at least a year in the UK, we aim to identify patterns in the socio-occupational sequences of people experiencing returning migration. Based on sequence analysis carried out in TraMineR (Life Trajectory Miner for R) covering the situation of returning migrants before migration, during migration and upon return, we have distinguished four clusters of sequences: (1) sequences with education, (2) sequences with employment, (3) sequences with unemployment and (4) sequences with self-employment. We compare those clusters in terms of demographic characteristics, as well as migration plans. We also take into consideration skills acquired and transferred throughout migration trajectories. With this typology based on the unique dataset of returning migrants, we supplement existing, primarily qualitative, research on returning migrants’ careers with the sequence analysis based on quantitative data.

The aim of this article is to investigate how young migrants' resilience manifests in different spheres of their lives. Adapting the Keck and Sakdapolrak's framework, we define resilience as being ...comprised of coping, adaptive and transformative capacities. While coping capacities are a post-crisis short-term response, adaptive and transformation capacities encompass more proactive and long-term planning. Drawing on interviews with young Third Country Nationals living in Poland, conducted within the framework of H2020 project MIMY, we analyse how the different types of resilience capacities intersect with different areas of integration. We also highlight that resilience is not only the ability to bounce back, but also the power to bounce forward, which implies the capacity to transform individual lives and their environments. Interestingly, in young migrants' narratives their personal resources, such as a positive mindset, persistence etc. play a crucial role. While community resources (family support and social capital) were mentioned, structural opportunities were largely absent in their narratives on resilience. Therefore, we can talk about a process of (self-)responsibilization of migrants for integration, which relates to the neoliberal discourse on newcomers' self-reliance.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie relacji między migracją zagraniczną a zjawiskiem prekaryzacji pracy młodych migrantów z wybranych miast średniej wielkości w Polsce. Autorki analizują, na ile ...migracja pozwala na zmianę a na ile utrwala prekarne warunki pracy, którym młodzi ludzie próbują sprostać, wyjeżdżając ze swoich społeczności lokalnych. Współczesna migracja przybiera charakter "migracji płynnej" opartej na tymczasowości, elastyczności i nieprzewidywalności trajektorii życiowych. W kontekście zawodowym „migranci płynni" muszą adaptować się do elastycznego, zderegulowanego i coraz bardziej transnarodowego rynku pracy, co wiąże się z określonymi wyzwaniami. Jednym z nich jest postępująca prekaryzacja pracy, która związana jest z ciągłym stanem niepewności zawodowej wynikającej z braku stabilnego zatrudnienia, okresowym brakiem pracy lub ze specyfiką formy zatrudnienia. W oparciu o materiał empiryczny pochodzący z projektu „Przejścia młodych z edukacji na rodzimy i zagraniczny rynek pracy: rola lokalności, grupy rówieśniczej i nowych mediów", autorki poszukują odpowiedzi na pytanie, jaką rolę w procesie prekaryzacji pracy ludzi młodych – zarówno w ujęciu obiektywnym jak i subiektywnym – pełni doświadczenie migracji zagranicznej.
The prolongation of education and the flexibilization of labor markets mean that the subsequent stages of early adult life and social roles are overlapping (Wyn, Dwyer 2002; Mayer 2005; Biggart, ...Walther 2006; Kohli 2007; Du Bois-Reymond 2009; Heinz 2009; Mary 2014). It is more and more often that young people reach adulthood in a non-linear way, experiencing returns to stages or situations from the past, which has been described in the literature as “yo-yo transition” (Du Bois-Reymond, Lopez Blasco 2003; Heinz 2009; Walther 2009; Hörschelmann 2011; Borlagdan 2015). The “yo-yo-ization of transitions” also concerns the school-to work transition, which is more and more extended over time, diverse, and difficult to predict (Walther 2006). One of the significant phenomena accompanying contemporary young adults getting into the labor market is international mobility (King 2018; Robertson, Harris, Baldassar 2018), which significantly influences the shape of educational and professional paths of young people. The purpose of this article is to answer the question about the role of international migration in the occurrence of the transitional yo-yo effect. Based on the case studies of migrants’ educational and occupational paths, transitions of young people to the domestic and foreign labor markets will be presented both in the objective and subjective dimensions. The qualitative adaptation of social sequence analysis (Cornwell 2015) will be used as the data analysis method.
