This paper addresses the problem of leader-following consensus for networked multi-agent systems subject to limited communication resources and unknown-but-bounded process and measurement noise. ...First, a new distributed event-based communication mechanism on the basis of a time-varying threshold parameter is developed to schedule transmission of each sensor's measurement through a communication network so as to alleviate consecutive occupancy of communication resources. Second, a novel concept of set-membership leader-following consensus is put forward, through which the true states of all followers are guaranteed to always reside in a bounding ellipsoidal set of the leader's state. Third, in the case that full information of followers' states are not measurable, a distributed observer-based consensus protocol is presented to provide a set-membership estimation of each follower's state. Then, based on a recursive computation of confidence state estimation ellipsoids and leader state ellipsoid, a delicate convex optimization algorithm in terms of recursive linear matrix inequalities is proposed to design desired consensus protocol and event-based mechanism. Finally, an illustrative example is given to show the effectiveness and advantage of the developed approach.
This paper focuses on the H ∞ fault detection (FD) problem for spring-mass systems (SMSs) over networks with distributed state delays, random packet losses, sensor saturation as well as ...multiplicative noises via unreliable communication channels. The output measurements are affected by sensor saturation which is described by sector-nonlinearities. The multiplicative noises are described as a form of Gaussian white noises multiplied by the states. A series of stochastic variables are introduced to describe the randomly occurring distributed state delays. Random packet losses are also introduced in unreliable communications. The purpose of this paper is to design an FD filter such that: 1) The FD dynamic system is exponentially stable in the mean square. 2) The error between the fault signal and the residual signal is controlled to the minimum. 3) The optimal H ∞ filtering performance index is achieved. A sufficient condition for the FD filter design is derived in terms of the solution to a linear matrix inequality (LMI). When the LMI has a feasible solution, the explicit parameters of the desired FD filter can be obtained. Finally, a simulation experiment is illustrated to show the effectiveness and application of the designed method.
This paper addresses the set-membership filtering problem for a class of discrete time-varying systems with sensor saturation in the presence of unknown-but-bounded process and measurement noises. A ...sufficient condition for the existence of set-membership filter is derived. A convex optimisation method is proposed to determine a state estimation ellipsoid that is a set of states compatible with sensor saturation and unknown-but-bounded process and measurement noises. A recursive algorithm is developed for computing the ellipsoid that guarantees to contain the true state by solving a time-varying linear matrix inequality. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this technical note, the problem of set-membership filtering is considered for discrete-time systems with nonlinear equality constraint between their state variables. The nonlinear equality ...constraint is first linearized and transformed into a state linear equality constraint with two uncertain quantities related to linearizing truncation error and base point error. S-procedure method is then applied to merge all inequalities into one inequality and the solution to the unconstrained set-membership filtering problem is provided. The set-membership filter with state constraint is finally derived from projecting the unconstrained set-membership filter onto the constrained surface by using Finsler's Lemma. A time-varying linear matrix inequality optimization based approach is proposed to design the set-membership filter with nonlinear equality constraint. A recursive algorithm is developed for computing the state estimate ellipsoid that guarantees to contain the true state. An illustrative example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed set-membership filtering with nonlinear equality constraint.
This paper is concerned with the problem of vertical attitude estimation of a two-degree-of-freedom quarter-car suspension system by designing a distributed filtering network, where several ...distributed filters estimate vehicle heave motion cooperatively under consideration of external disturbance, network channel noises, and measurement error. The sampled data are transmitted through wireless networks. In order to reduce network traffic load and save communication resources, a novel periodic event-triggered sampling scheme is proposed, under which data are transmitted only when the proposed triggering condition is violated. Codesign of event-triggered and distributed filters is derived to guarantee well H ∞ robustness to the system noises considered above. Finally, the experiments are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed filtering system.
Microgrids (MGs) have become an integral part of smart grid initiatives for future power system networks. Networked microgrids consist of several neighbouring microgrids connected in a low/medium ...distribution network. The primary objective of a network is to share surplus/shortage power with neighbouring microgrids to achieve mutual cost‐effective operation, utilising green energy from renewable energy resources in the network and increasing the reliability of customer service. This article classifies networked microgrids on the basis of network formation and provides an overview of recent research on control of networked microgrids. In addition, a state‐of‐the‐art review of optimisation methods is provided to solve the energy optimisation problem in networked microgrids. Furthermore, the advantages and challenges of the networked operation of microgrids are presented as for possible research directions in the future.

Most existing localization schemes necessitate a priori statistical characteristic of measurement noise, which may be unrealistic in practical applications. This paper investigates the variational ...Bayesian adaptive unscented Kalman filtering (VBAUKF) for received signal strength indication (RSSI) based indoor localization under inaccurate process and measurement noise covariance matrices. First, an inaccurate and slowly varying measurement noise covariance matrix can be estimated by choosing appropriate conjugate prior distribution for an indoor localization model with inaccurate process and measurement noise covariance matrices. By choosing inverse Wishart priors distribution, the state, predicted error and measurement noise covariance matrices are inferred on each time separately. Second, a parameter optimization algorithm is designed to minimize the localization error of VBAUKF until it less than the threshold set in advance. Finally, experimental validation is presented to demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed filtering method for indoor localization.

In this technical note, the robust control problem is investigated for a class of stochastic uncertain discrete time-delay systems with missing measurements. The parameter uncertainties enter into ...the state matrices, and the missing measurements are described by a binary switching sequence satisfying a conditional probability distribution. The purpose of the problem is to design a full-order dynamic feedback controller such that, for all possible missing observations and admissible parameter uncertainties, the closed-loop system is asymptotically mean-square stable and satisfies the prescribed performance constraint. Delay-dependent conditions are derived under which the desired solution exists, and the controller parameters are designed by solving a linear matrix inequality (LMI). A numerical example is provided to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed design method.
In this technical note, the problem of designing fixed-order robust H infin controllers is considered for linear systems affected by polytopic uncertainty. A polynomial method is employed to design a ...fixed-order controller that guarantees that all the closed-loop poles reside within a given region of the complex plane. In order to utilize the freedom of the controller design, an H infin performance specification is also enforced by using the equivalence between robust stability and H infin norm constraint. The design problem is formulated as a linear matrix inequality (LMI) constraint whose decision variables are controller parameters. An illustrative example demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed design methods.
