In this paper, a distributed learning leader-follower consensus protocol based on Gaussian process regression for a class of nonlinear multi-agent systems with unknown dynamics is designed. We ...propose a distributed learning approach to predict the residual dynamics for each agent. The stability of the consensus protocol using the data-driven model of the dynamics is shown via Lyapunov analysis. The followers ultimately synchronize to the leader with guaranteed error bounds by applying the proposed control law with a high probability. The effectiveness and the applicability of the developed protocol are demonstrated by simulation examples.
Federated learning is the distributed machine learning framework that enables collaborative training across multiple parties while ensuring data privacy. Practical adaptation of XGBoost, the ...state-of-the-art tree boosting framework, to federated learning remains limited due to high cost incurred by conventional privacy-preserving methods. To address the problem, we propose two variants of federated XGBoost with privacy guarantee: FedXGBoost-SMM and FedXGBoost-LDP. Our first protocol FedXGBoost-SMM deploys enhanced secure matrix multiplication method to preserve privacy with lossless accuracy and lower overhead than encryption-based techniques. Developed independently, the second protocol FedXGBoost-LDP is heuristically designed with noise perturbation for local differential privacy, and empirically evaluated on real-world and synthetic datasets.
The increasing amount of nanotechnological products, found in our environment and those applicable in engineering, material sciences and medicine has stimulated a growing interest in examining their ...long-term impact on genetic and epigenetic processes. We examined here the epigenomic response to nm-SiO(2) particles in human HaCaT cells and methyltransferases (DNMTs) and DNA-binding domain proteins (MBDs) induced by nano-SiO(2) particles. Nm-SiO(2) treatment induced global hypoacetylation implying a global epigenomic response. The levels of DNMT1, DNMT3a and methyl-CpG binding protein 2 (MBD2) were also decreased in a dose dependent manner at mRNA and protein level. Epigenetic changes may have long-term effects on gene expression programming long after the initial signal has been removed, and if these changes remain undetected, it could lead to long-term untoward effects in biological systems. These studies suggest that nanoparticles could cause more subtle epigenetic changes which merit thorough examination of environmental nanoparticles and novel candidate nanomaterials for medical applications.

AIM: To investigate the effect of c9, t11-conjugated linoleic acid (c9,t11-CLA) on the adhesion of human gastric carcinoma cell line (SGC-7901).METHODS: SGC-7901 cells were at first treated with ...different concentrations (25, 50, 100, 200 μmol/L) of c9,t111-CLA and 1 mL/L ethanol (as a negative control) for 24 h.Using adhesion assay and Western blot, we investigated the ability of SGC-7901 cells to adhere to intracellular matrix and examined the expression of E-cadherin (ECD), α-catenin,intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1) in these cells.RESULTS: The attachment rate to laminin of SGC-7901 cells treated with different concentrations of c9,t11-CLA (0,25, 50, 100, and 200 μmol/L) was 100.0±3.3, 95.7±4.0,89.2±4.6, 87.9±6.1, and 65.9±5.8, respectively. The attachment rate to fibronectin was 100.0±4.7, 96.8±3.8,94.5±4.1, 76.5±4.3, and 61.8±4.8, respectively. The attachment rate to Matrigel was 99.9±6.6, 91.4±6.8,85.5±7.4, 79.3±5.6, and 69.6±5.1, respectively. Besides,c9,t11-CLA could increase the level of ECD and α-catenin,and decrease the level of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 in SGC-7901 cells.CONCLUSION: c9, t11-CLA can reduce the adhesion of human gastric carcinoma cells to laminin, fibronectin and Matrigel. c9,t11-CLA can increase the level of ECD and α-catenin, and decrease the level of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 in human gastric carcinoma cells.
Semiconductor nanowires (NWs) are promising for realizing various on-chip nonlinear optical devices, due to their nanoscale lateral confinement and strong light-matter interaction. However, ...high-intensity pulsed pump lasers are typically needed to exploit their optical nonlinearity because light couples poorly with nanometric-size wires. Here, we demonstrate microwatts continuous-wave light pumped second harmonic generation (SHG) in AlGaAs NWs by integrating them with silicon planar photonic crystal cavities. Light-NW coupling is enhanced effectively by the extremely localized cavity mode at the subwavelength scale. Strong SHG is obtained even with a continuous-wave laser excitation with a pump power down to ~3 uW, and the cavity-enhancement factor is estimated around 150. Additionally, in the integrated device, the NW's SHG is more than two-order of magnitude stronger than third harmonic generations in the silicon slab, though the NW only couple s with less than 1% of the cavity mode. This significantly reduced power-requirement of NW's nonlinear frequency conversion would promote NW-based building blocks for nonlinear optics, specially in chip-integrated coherent light sources, entangled photon-pairs and signal processing devices.
AIM: During emergency period, infectious diseases can be a major threat to military forces. During field training in southern China, diarrhea is the main cause of nonbattle injury. To evaluate the ...causes of and risk factors for diarrhea in emergency period, we collected clinical and epidemiological data from the People's Liberation Army (PLA) during fieldtraining in southern China. METHODS: From September 25 to October 2 1997, 2636 military personnel were investigated. Fecal sample cultures for lapactic pathogens were obtained from 103 military personnel with diarrhea. In addition, a questionnaire was administered to 103 cases and 206 controls to evaluate the association between illness and potential risk factors. At the same time,another questionnaire of 1:4 case-case control was administered to 22 severe cases (each severe case paired 4 mild cases). RESULTS: The training troop's diarrhea incidence rate was significantly higher than that of garrison. The diarrhea incidence rate of officers was significantly lower than that of soldiers. A lapactic pathogen was identified in 63.1% (65/103) of the troops with diarrhea. Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (35.0%) and plesiomona shigelloides (16.5%) were the most common bacterial pathogens. All bacterial isolates were sensitive to norfloxacin and ceftazidine. However, almost all of them were resistant to sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole,oxytetracycline, doxycycline, furazolidone, ampicillin and cloromycetin to a different degree. Risk factors associated with diarrhea includediidrinking raw water, eating outside,contacting diarrhea patients, lacking sanitation, depression,lacking sleep, which were established by multiple-factor logistic regression analysis. In addition, the unit incidence rate was associated with the density of flies and the average daily boiled water available by regression and discriminate analysis. CONCLUSION: A series of risk factors are associated with the incidence rate of diarrhea. Our results may provide a useful basis for prevention and cure of diarrhea in emergency period of PLA.
Intelligent power grid custom service, providing power supply and consumption information directly to users, is the intermediary of direct communication between the power grid and users. In this paper, a term recognition method based on machine learning and statistical information is proposed to collect unregistered term components. Taking the advantage of both "conditional random field sequence labeling word segmentation algorithm" and "word-formation rules & improved mutual information & boundary entropy", this method indentifies terminology through the combination of correlated calculation and comprehensive evaluation. It is used to construct the intelligent power grid custom service term library, and ultimately to perform extraction experiments utilizing the power grid custom service work order, which lays the foundation for custom service artificial intelligence.
