Due to the significant reduction in computational cost and storage, hashing techniques have gained increasing interests in facilitating large-scale cross-view retrieval tasks. Most cross-view hashing ...methods are developed by assuming that data from different views are well paired, e.g., text-image pairs. In real-world applications, however, this fully-paired multiview setting may not be practical. The more practical yet challenging semi-paired cross-view retrieval problem, where pairwise correspondences are only partially provided, has less been studied. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised hashing method for semi-paired cross-view retrieval, dubbed semi-paired discrete hashing (SPDH). In specific, SPDH explores the underlying structure of the constructed common latent subspace, where both paired and unpaired samples are well aligned. To effectively preserve the similarities of semi-paired data in the latent subspace, we construct the cross-view similarity graph with the help of anchor data pairs. SPDH jointly learns the latent features and hash codes with a factorization-based coding scheme. For the formulated objective function, we devise an efficient alternating optimization algorithm, where the key binary code learning problem is solved in a bit-by-bit manner with each bit generated with a closed-form solution. The proposed method is extensively evaluated on four benchmark datasets with both fully-paired and semi-paired settings and the results demonstrate the superiority of SPDH over several other state-of-the-art methods in term of both accuracy and scalability.

emissions (CPC) in China, as well as their determinants. We show that the CPC inequality index in China increased from 1.1364 in 2000 to 2.3688 in 2017, with the productive sector accounting for 91.42% of this expansion and households responsible for the rest. The production-side per capita output level, energy efficiency, energy structure, and industrial structure explain 69.01%, 12.81%, 5.57%, and 4.03% of these inequalities, respectively. Further, the household per capita energy consumption and energy structure explain only 8.12% and 0.46%, respectively. Therefore, future responsibility-sharing mechanisms for climate mitigation need to be formulated taking mainly the productive sector into account.

Autophagy maintains T cell development and survival by regulating the degradation of organelles and apoptotic proteins. The autophagic process also impacts the formation of memory T cells. Alteration of autophagy in T cells may lead to a variety of pathological conditions such as inflammation, autoimmune diseases and cancer. In this review, we discuss how autophagy impacts T cell differentiation, survival and memory, and its implication in immunotherapy for various diseases.

Burgess Shale-type fossil Lagerstätten provide the best evidence for deciphering the biotic patterns and magnitude of the Cambrian explosion. Here, we report a Lagerstätte from South China, the ...Qingjiang biota (~518 million years old), which is dominated by soft-bodied taxa from a distal shelf setting. The Qingjiang biota is distinguished by pristine carbonaceous preservation of labile organic features, a very high proportion of new taxa (~53%), and preliminary taxonomic diversity that suggests it could rival the Chengjiang and Burgess Shale biotas. Defining aspects of the Qingjiang biota include a high abundance of cnidarians, including both medusoid and polypoid forms; new taxa resembling extant kinorhynchs; and abundant larval or juvenile forms. This distinctive composition holds promise for providing insights into the evolution of Cambrian ecosystems across environmental gradients.
Nucleus accumbens‐associated protein 1 (NAC1), a transcriptional cofactor, has been found to play important roles in regulating regulatory T cells, CD8+ T cells, and antitumor immunity, but little is ...known about its effects on T‐cell memory. In this study, we found that NAC1 expression restricts memory formation of CD4+ T cells during viral infection. Analysis of CD4+ T cells from wild‐type (WT) and NAC1‐deficient (−/−) mice showed that NAC1 is essential for T‐cell metabolism, including glycolysis and oxidative phosphorylation, and supports CD4+ T‐cell survival in vitro. We further demonstrated that a deficiency of NAC1 downregulates glycolysis and correlates with the AMPK‐mTOR pathway and causes autophagy defective in CD4+ T cells. Loss of NAC1 reduced the expression of ROCK1 and the phosphorylation and stabilization of BECLIN1. However, a forced expression of ROCK1 in NAC1−/− CD4+ T cells restored autophagy and the activity of the AMPK‐mTOR pathway. In animal experiments, adoptively transferred NAC1−/− CD4+ T cells or NAC1−/− mice challenged with VACV showed enhanced formation of VACV‐specific CD4+ memory T cells compared to adoptively transferred WT CD4+ T cells or WT mice. This memory T‐cell formation enhancement was abrogated by forcing expression of ROCK1. Our study reveals a novel role for NAC1 as a suppressor of CD4+ T‐cell memory formation and suggests that targeting NAC1 could be a new approach to promoting memory CD4+ T‐cell development, which is critical for an effective immune response against pathogens.

Abstract
The quantum Hall effect, fundamental in modern condensed matter physics, continuously inspires new theories and predicts emergent phases of matter. Here we experimentally demonstrate three ...types of Chern insulators with synthetic dimensions on a programable 30-qubit-ladder superconducting processor. We directly measure the band structures of the 2D Chern insulator along synthetic dimensions with various configurations of Aubry-André-Harper chains and observe dynamical localisation of edge excitations. With these two signatures of topology, our experiments implement the bulk-edge correspondence in the synthetic 2D Chern insulator. Moreover, we simulate two different bilayer Chern insulators on the ladder-type superconducting processor. With the same and opposite periodically modulated on-site potentials for two coupled chains, we simulate topologically nontrivial edge states with zero Hall conductivity and a Chern insulator with higher Chern numbers, respectively. Our work shows the potential of using superconducting qubits for investigating different intriguing topological phases of quantum matter.
Hawking radiation is one of the quantum features of a black hole that can be understood as a quantum tunneling across the event horizon of the black hole, but it is quite difficult to directly ...observe the Hawking radiation of an astrophysical black hole. Here, we report a fermionic lattice-model-type realization of an analogue black hole by using a chain of 10 superconducting transmon qubits with interactions mediated by 9 transmon-type tunable couplers. The quantum walks of quasi-particle in the curved spacetime reflect the gravitational effect near the black hole, resulting in the behaviour of stimulated Hawking radiation, which is verified by the state tomography measurement of all 7 qubits outside the horizon. In addition, the dynamics of entanglement in the curved spacetime is directly measured. Our results would stimulate more interests to explore the related features of black holes using the programmable superconducting processor with tunable couplers.
Fatty acid biosynthesis is essential for bacterial survival. Of these promising targets, β-ketoacyl-acyl carrier protein (ACP) synthase III (FabH) is the most attractive target. FabH would trigger ...the initiation of fatty acid biosynthesis and it is highly conserved among Gram-positive and -negative bacteria. A series of novel amide derivatives bearing dioxygenated rings were synthesized and developed as potent inhibitors of FabH. These compounds were determined by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, MS and further confirmed by crystallographic diffraction study for compound 19. Furthermore, these compounds were evaluated strong broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. Some compounds with potent antibacterial activities were tested for their Escherichia coli (E. coli) FabH inhibitory activity. Especially, compound 19 showed the most potent antibacterial activity with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 1.56–3.13 mg/mL against the tested bacterial strains and exhibited the most potent E. coli FabH inhibitory activity with IC50 of 2.4 µM. Docking simulation was performed to position compound 19 into the E. coli FabH active site to determine the probable binding conformation.

Peroxynitrite, one of the most active reactive oxygen (ROS) and reactive nitrogen (RON) species, has been of wide interest because of its high oxidizing and nitrifying properties. As a vital physiological activator and signaling molecule, peroxynitrite (ONOO–) excess can damage proteins, nucleic acids, and amino acids in cells, thus causing inflammation and other serious diseases in living organisms. Fluorescence sensing and fluorescence imaging can label and track a wide range of biological activities and living molecules with excellent temporal and spatial resolution. As a result, many small molecule fluorescent probes have been developed for the detection and treatment of peroxynitrite. However, this interesting and cutting-edge topic has not been systematically summarized so far. Therefore, this review highlights the design strategies, reaction mechanisms, and imaging applications of organic fluorescent probes used for peroxynitrite detection in recent years. In particular, a detailed summary and description of the recognition sites for peroxynitrite (ONOO–) are provided, which can facilitate fresh ideas and inspiration for future research efforts. More meaningfully, we hope that the future developments of fluorescent probes for detecting ONOO– can overcome the current problems, such as limited water solubility, high biological toxicity, etc., and create a superior and safer fluorescent sensing technology.

Video hashing learns compact representation by mapping video into low-dimensional Hamming space and has achieved promising performance in large-scale video retrieval. It is challenging to effectively ...exploit temporal and spatial structure in an unsupervised setting. To fulfill this gap, this paper proposes Contrastive Transformer Hashing (CTH) for effective video retrieval. Specifically, CTH develops a bidirectional transformer autoencoder, based on which visual reconstruction loss is proposed. CTH is more powerful to capture bidirectional correlations among frames than conventional unidirectional models. In addition, CTH devises multi-modality contrastive loss to reveal intrinsic structure among videos. CTH constructs inter-modality and intra-modality triplet sets and proposes multi-modality contrastive loss to exploit inter-modality and intra-modality similarities simultaneously. We perform video retrieval tasks on four benchmark datasets, i.e., UCF101, HMDB51, SVW30, FCVID using the learned compact hash representation, and extensive empirical results demonstrate the proposed CTH outperforms several state-of-the-art video hashing methods.
