In this study, we aimed to determine systemic coagulation activity in patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis and to define determinants of a possible prethrombotic state. Peripheral venous plasma ...level of thrombin-antithrombin III complex was measured in 84 consecutive patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis who had no left atrial thrombus by transesophageal echocardiography. The patients had significantly higher thrombin-antithrombin III complex values (mean +/- SD = 9.6+/-15.9 ng/ ml) compared with the healthy subjects (2.1+/-1.8 ng/ml) (P<0.001). Among many clinical and echocardiographic variables, severe mitral regurgitation (odds ratio = 6.7, P<0.001) and left atrial spontaneous echo contrast (odds ratio = 22.8, P<0.001) appeared as significant predictors of the increased systemic coagulation activity in multivariate logistic regression analysis. In conclusion, systemic coagulation activity is increased in the patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis, and coexistence of severe mitral regurgitation and presence of left atrial spontaneous echo contrast are determinants of this increment.
In this paper; simulation, design, and implementation of three-phase to three-phase matrix converter using Venturini modulation algorithm have been presented. Furthermore, effects of input filter on ...stability of matrix converter have been examined. A Simulink model has been developed in such a way that it supports real time work with the use of DSP control card supported by Simulink. Simulation and experimental results for the input and output waveforms of the matrix converter using R-L load are given at various operating conditions. Good agreement was obtained between the simulation results and the results obtained from the prototype.
We present a method for converting 1-D Maxwell equation into a linear system using the Multivariable Output Error State Space (MOESP) method, a subspace system identification method. To show the ...efficiency of the method, we first apply it to a set of ordinary differantial equations. Input and output from the equation set are computed by numerical methods and the obtained data is used for building the required matrices. An appropriate Single Input Single Output (SISO) linear system is estimated by MOESP algorithm for the equation at hand. The goal of the research is to build a low order linear state space system model for the Maxwell equation. On the other hand the order estimation for the system can be used in other way. For example, with this estimation one can determine an appropriate order for the physical system, for which one of the well-known model order reduction techniques can be used to obtain a reduced order model.

Splenosis is the autotransplantation of splenic tissue following trauma. The presence of residual nodules following splenectomy has been investigated by a sensitive scanning method employing ...reinjection of 99Tcm-labelled, heat-damaged autologous erythrocytes. Splenosis was detected in 11 of 19 patients who had had splenectomy for traumatic rupture of spleen. Four of them had multiple nodules, the others a single nodule. In one case, the splenic nodule did not take up the sulphur colloid, although it could be visualised on selective splenic scan. We found no splenic nodules in 23 patients who had splenectomy for non-traumatic reasons. It is concluded that the key factor in splenosis is trauma.
We suggest a simple and an efficient iterative method based on both the Gerschgorin eigenvalue inclusion theorem and the deflation methods to compute a Reduced Order Model (ROM) to lower greatly the ...order of a given state space system. This method is especially efficient in symmetric state-space systems but it works for the other cases with some modifications.
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship of alpha1-acid glycoprotein (AGP, orosomucoid), which is an acute-phase reactant, in patients with Type 1 (T1DM) and Type 2 diabetes mellitus ...(T2DM), with the metabolic parameters and complications of diabetes mellitus. A total of 119 diabetic patients (89 T2DM, 30 T1DM) and 33 healthy controls were included in the study. The mean AGP level in the diabetic group was not different from the control group (82.4 +/- 28.9 and 81.6 +/- 16.6 mg/dl, respectively), but it was higher in T2DM than in T1DM subjects (86.6 +/- 28.3 and 69.7 +/- 26.9, respectively). AGP plasma levels showed a significant correlation with age and body mass index (r = +0.348 and r = +0.296, respectively). AGP plasma levels resulted higher in obese diabetic patients (97.7 +/- 28.0) than in non-obese diabetic patients (77.6 +/- 28.7 mg/dl) and controls (81.6 +/- 16.6), and also higher in diabetic subjects with poor glycaemic control (85.1 +/- 33.3 mg/dl) than in diabetic subjects with optimal glycaemic control (79.5 +/- 23.1 mg/dl). A relationship between AGP and macro- and microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus was not found. In conclusion, inflammatory findings were more prominent in obese diabetic patients.
We suggest a simple and an efficient way of selecting a suitable set of interpolation points for the well-known rational Krylov based model order reduction techniques. To do this, some sampling ...points from the frequency response of the transfer function are taken. These points correspond to the places where the sign of the numerical derivation of transfer function changes. The suggested method requires a set of linear system’s solutions several times. But, they can be computed concurrently by different processors in a parallel computing environment. Serial performance of the method is compared to the well-known H2 optimal method for several benchmark examples. The method achieves acceptable accuracies (the same order of magnitude) compared to that of H2 optimal methods and has a better performance than the common selection procedures such as linearly distributed points.
In this paper; simulation, design, and implementation of space vector controlled three-phase to three- phase matrix converter have been presented. A Simulink model has been developed in such a way ...that it supports real time work with the use of DSP control card supported by Simulink. Space vector control algorithm has been preferred to the other control algorithms since it is easy to implement and to control the input power factor with reduced switching loses. Simulation and experimental results of the input and output waveforms of the matrix converter for R-L load are given at various operating conditions. Good agreement was obtained between simulation and laboratory experiments.
