Growth of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) as single crystals is extremely challenging. Inaccessibility of open‐structured single‐crystal COFs prevents the exploration of structure‐oriented ...applications. Herein we report for the first time a non‐interpenetrated single‐crystal COF, LZU‐306, which possesses the open structure constructed exclusively via covalent assembly. With a high void volume of 80 %, LZU‐306 was applied to investigate the intrinsic dynamics of reticulated tetraphenylethylene (TPE) as the individual aggregation‐induced‐emission moiety. Solid‐state 2H NMR investigation has determined that the rotation of benzene rings in TPE, being the freest among the reported cases, is as fast as 1.0×104 Hz at 203 K to 1.5×107 Hz at 293 K. This research not only explores a new paradigm for single‐crystal growth of open frameworks, but also provides a unique matrix‐isolation platform to reticulate functional moieties into a well‐defined and isolated state.

To address the challenge of assessing sedation status in critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), we aimed to develop a non-contact automatic classifier of agitation using artificial ...intelligence and deep learning.
We collected the video recordings of ICU patients and cut them into 30-second (30-s) and 2-second (2-s) segments. All of the segments were annotated with the status of agitation as "Attention" and "Non-attention". After transforming the video segments into movement quantification, we constructed the models of agitation classifiers with Threshold, Random Forest, and LSTM and evaluated their performances.
The video recording segmentation yielded 427 30-s and 6405 2-s segments from 61 patients for model construction. The LSTM model achieved remarkable accuracy (ACC 0.92, AUC 0.91), outperforming other methods.
Our study proposes an advanced monitoring system combining LSTM and image processing to ensure mild patient sedation in ICU care. LSTM proves to be the optimal choice for accurate monitoring. Future efforts should prioritize expanding data collection and enhancing system integration for practical application.

We report herein the use of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) to facilitate the energy transfer from sensitizer to the active sites for efficient photocatalysis. The results indicate that the ...photocatalytic efficiency can be apparently enhanced by using the layered COFs. The visible-light-induced hydrogen evolution rate (10.4 mmol g−1 h−1) for Pd0/TpPa-1 sensitized by Eosin Y was 10 times higher than that of Pd/C. The enhanced photocatalytic H2-production activity could be originated from the improvement of the photogenerated electron transfer in conjugated COFs. The important role of COFs in facilitating the transfer of photogenerated electrons was verified by the transient photocurrent response and the luminescence analysis. This research highlights the use of COFs to investigate the energy transfer process.
•COFs were used to improve the energy transfer from sensitizer to active sites.•Enhanced photocatalytic efficiency can be achieved by using COFs.•The role of COFs in facilitating the energy transfer was proposed.

In this study a graphite (Gr)/silicon (Si)/carbon (C) (Gr+C:Si = 85:15, wt.%) composite anode material was prepared through spray-drying and then subjected to wet-coating in an aqueous solution to obtain lithium polyacrylate (LiPAA)–coated Gr/Si/C composite anode materials. The thickness of the LiPAA coating layer of the 1 wt.% LiPAA-coated Gr/Si/C anode material was approximately 4 nm. The characteristics of the LiPAA-coated Gr/Si/C composite materials were examined using X-ray diffraction, micro-Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller method, scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The capacity retentions of CR2032 half-cells featuring the pristine Gr/Si/C composite electrode were ca. 74.0% at 0.2C after 100 cycles and 30.0% at 0.5C after 500 cycles; they improved markedly—up to 94.4% and 82.2%, respectively—for the cells prepared with the 1 wt.% LiPAA-coated Gr/Si/C composite electrode. The LiPAA polymer coating functioned as an artificial solid electrolyte interphase layer that stabilized the structural integrity at the interface between the electrode and the electrolyte during the cycling process. Our experimental results suggest that LiPAA-coated Gr/Si/C composites are promising candidate materials for use as high-capacity anodes in next-generation lithium-ion batteries.

Hepatitis A virus(HAV)is one of the most common infectious etiologies of acute hepatitis worldwide.The virus is known to be transmitted fecal-orally,resulting in symptoms ranging from asymptomatic ...infection to fulminant hepatitis.HAV can also be transmitted through oral-anal sex.Residents from regions of low endemicity for HAV infection often remain susceptible in their adulthood.Therefore,clustered HAV infections or outbreaks of acute hepatitis A among men who have sex with men and injecting drug users have been reported in countries of low endemicity for HAV infection.The duration of HAV viremia and stool shedding of HAV may be longer in human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)-positive individuals compared to HIV-negative individuals with acute hepatitis A.Current guidelines recommend HAV vaccination for individuals with increased risks of exposure to HAV(such as from injecting drug use,oral-anal sex,travel to or residence in endemic areas,frequent clotting factor or blood transfusions)or with increased risks of fulminant disease(such as those with chronic hepatitis).The seroconversion rates following the recommended standard adult dosing schedule(2doses of HAVRIX 1440 U or VAQTA 50 U administered6-12 mo apart)are lower among HIV-positive individuals compared to HIV-negative individuals.While the response rates may be augmented by adding a booster dose at week 4 sandwiched between the first dose and the 6-mo dose,the need of booster vaccination remain less clear among HIV-positive individuals who have lost anti-HAV antibodies.

Due to the unique three-dimensional spatial structure and special electronic properties, triptycene has been applied in dye-sensitized solar cells. Herein, two dyes JY76/JY77 featuring triptycene at the different substitution position of carbazole donor have been synthesized, and location effect of triptycene on the photovoltaic performance of devices has been investigated. Lateral derived triptycene endows JY77 much more enhanced capability of impeding the interface charge recombination than JY76 which triptycene was decorated at terminal. Finally, JY77-sensitized solar cells exhibit around 20% higher power conversion efficiency (PCE) than that of JY76. The photovoltaic properties are further tuned by co-sensitization strategy, and better PCEs are obtained. Under AM 1.5G irradiation, cells fabricated by the synergic adsorption of JY77 and JY75, achieve the highest PCE of 8.01%.

In this study, we demonstrate the effect of adding one-dimensional (1D) vapor-grown carbon fiber (VGCF) as a carbon additive to increase the electronic conductivity of LiFePO4 cathode. Because, the 1D VGCF structure can provide rapid and long-pathways for electron transfer and regulate a better phase transition effect on LiFePO4 cathode compared to the other-dimensional carbon additives. Here, the olivine-type LiFePO4/C composite (LFP/C) cathode is basically derived from a sol-gel method, followed by a spray-dry technique to obtain a homogenous spherical morphology. The carbon additives of 0D super P, 1D VGCF and 2D or 3D porous reduced graphene oxide (PGO) nanosheets containing cathodes-based, such as bare LFP/C, LFP/C/VGCF and LFP/C/PGO, half-cells were fabricated and tested at a cut-off voltage of 2.0 – 3.8 V (vs. Li/Li+). Interestingly, the LFP/C/VGCF showed better performance than the bare LFP/C and LFP/C/PGO. Especially at high-rate cycle-life, the LFP/C/VGCF cathode attained capacity retention of 100% for 100 cycles at 1C/1C and 98.83% for 100 cycles at 1C/10C. It is due to the higher electronic conductivity (ca. 2.36 × 10−4 S cm−1) and Li+ ion diffusion coefficient (ca. 2.56 × 10−13 cm2 s−1) of LFP/C/VGCF cathode than the other electrodes. It can also provide better reversibility in a phase transition of LiFePO4/FePO4 phases during the charge/discharge cycle, further confirmed by in-situ XRD and micro-Raman techniques. The results indicated that the LFP/C/VGCF cathode displayed much faster kinetics behavior than bare LFP/C cathode.
