Little is known about the associations between long-term exposure to wildfire-related fine particulate matter (PM
) and mortality. We aimed to explore theses associations using the data from the UK ...Biobank cohort. Long-term wildfire-related PM
exposure was defined as the 3-year cumulative concentrations of wildfire-related PM
within a 10-km buffer surrounding the residential address for each individual. Hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using the time-varying Cox regression model. We included 492,394 participants aged between 38 and 73 years. We found that after adjusting for potential covariates, a 10 μg/m
increase of wildfire-related PM
exposure was associated with a 0.4% higher risk of all-cause mortality (HR = 1.004 95% CI: 1.001, 1.006) and nonaccidental mortality (HR = 1.004 95% CI: 1.002, 1.006), and a 0.5% higher risk of neoplasm mortality (HR = 1.005 95% CI: 1.002, 1.008). However, no significant associations were observed between wildfire-related PM
exposure and mortality from cardiovascular, respiratory, and mental diseases. Additionally, no significant modification effects of a series of modifiers were observed. Targeted health protection strategies should be adopted in response to wildfire-related PM
exposure, in order to reduce the risk of premature mortality.

Conference Proceeding
Skyrmion racetrack memory (SK-RM) has demonstrated great potential as a high-density and low-cost nonvolatile memory. Nevertheless, even though random data accesses are supported on SK-RM, data ...accesses can not be carried out on individual data bit directly. Instead, special skyrmion manipulations, such as injecting and shifting, are required to support random information update and deletion. With such special manipulations, the latency and energy consumption of skyrmion manipulations could quickly accumulate and induce additional overhead on the data read/write path of SK-RM. Meanwhile, injection operation consumes more energy and has higher latency than any other manipulations. Although prior arts have tried to alleviate the overhead of skyrmion manipulations, the possibility of minimizing injections through buffering skyrmions for future reuse and energy conservation receives much less attention. Such observation motivates us to propose the concept of skyrmion vault to effectively utilize the skyrmion buffer track structure for energy conservation through maximizing the lifespan of injected skyrmions and minimizing the number of skyrmion injections. Experimental results have shown promising improvements in both energy consumption and skyrmions' lifespan.
Recently, the requirement of storing digital data has been growing rapidly; however, the conventional storage medium cannot satisfy these huge demands. Fortunately, thanks to biological technology ...development, storing digital data into deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) has become possible in recent years. Furthermore, because of the attractive features (e.g., high storing density, long-term durability, and stability), DNA storage has been regarded as a potential alternative storage medium to store massive digital data in the future. Nevertheless, reading and writing digital data over DNA requires a series of extremely time-consuming processes (i.e., DNA sequencing and DNA synthesis). More specifically, among the two costs, the writing cost is the predominant cost of a DNA data storage system. Therefore, to enable efficient DNA storage, this article proposes an index management scheme for reducing the number of accesses to DNA storage. Additionally, this article introduces a new DNA data encoding format with VERA (Version Editing Recovery Approach) to reduce the total writing bits while inserting and deleting the data. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first work to provide a total data management solution for DNA storage. According to the experimental results, the proposed design with VERA can reduce the cost by 77% and improve the performance by 71% compared to the append-only methods.
Osteosarcoma is the most frequent bone tumor, characterized by a high metastatic potential. However, the crosstalk between chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 3 (CCL3), which facilitates tumor progression ...and metastasis. Vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A), an angiogenesis inducer and a highly specific mitogen for endothelial cells, has not been well explored in human osteosarcoma. Here we demonstrate the correlation of CCL3 and VEGF-A expressions, quantified by immunohistochemistry, with the tumor stage of human osteosarcoma tissues. Furthermore, CCL3 promotes VEGF-A expression in human osteosarcoma cells that subsequently induces human endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) migration and tube formation. Phosphorylation of JNK, ERK, and p38 was found after CCL3 stimulation. In addition, JNK, ERK, and p38 inhibitors also abolished CCL3-induced VEGF-A expression and angiogenesis. We noted that CCL3 reduces the expression of miR-374b and miR-374b mimic by reversing CCL3-promoted VEGF-A expression and angiogenesis in vitro and in vivo. This study shows that CCL3 promotes VEGF-A expression and angiogenesis in human osteosarcoma cells by down-regulating miR-374b expression via JNK, ERK, and p38 signaling pathways. Thus, CCL3 may be a new molecular therapeutic target in osteosarcoma angiogenesis and metastasis.

Lung cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in the world, and its incidence and mortality rate rank among the top malignant tumors worldwide, which has become an important killer ...threatening human survival rate and well-being. Modern medical treatment for lung cancer is mainly based on surgery and radiotherapy, with gene, targeted drugs and immunotherapy as auxiliary treatments, which are effective, but there are problems such as postoperative recurrence, resistance to radiotherapy, toxic side effects and poor compliance. In recent years, with the continuous development of TCM, TCM is popular among physicians and patients for its high efficiency, low toxicity, low side effects and economic benefits, etc. As a classical TCM formula, Qianjin Weijin Decoction(QJWJ) has certain value in the treatment of lung cancer. This paper summarizes and analyzes the clinical research, molecular mechanism, pharmacological effects and chemical composition of QJWJ in the treatment of lung cancer, in order to provide more ideas and theoretical basis for the treatment of lung cancer with QJWJ.

Varied seasonal patterns of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) have been reported worldwide. We conducted a systematic review on articles identified in PubMed reporting RSV seasonality based on data ...collected before 1 January 2020. RSV seasonal patterns were examined by geographic location, calendar month, analytic method, and meteorological factors including temperature and absolute humidity. Correlation and regression analyses were conducted to explore the relationship between RSV seasonality and study methods and characteristics of study locations. RSV seasons were reported in 209 articles published in 1973-2023 for 317 locations in 77 countries. Regular RSV seasons were similarly reported in countries in temperate regions, with highly variable seasons identified in subtropical and tropical countries. Longer durations of RSV seasons were associated with a higher daily average mean temperature and daily average mean absolute humidity. The global seasonal patterns of RSV provided important information for optimizing interventions against RSV infection.
To investigate the effects of soothing liver and invigorating spleen recipes on expression levels of Sterol Regulatory Element-binding Protein-1c (SREBP-1c) mRNA and SREBP-1c protein in hepatic ...tissue of rats with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Fifty-five SD rats were randomized into 5 groups: normal control group, model group, soothing liver group, invigorating spleen group and combination group. Except the normal group, the rats in model group and other treatment groups were fed with high-fat emulsion to induce NAFLD. The treatment groups were administered with respective traditional chinese medicine, the normal group and model group received correspondence volume distilled water. After treatment for 8 weeks, the rats were executed to obtain the liver for observing hepatic pathological changes. Expression levels of SREBP-1c mRNA and SREBP-1c protein in hepatic tissues were assayed using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry respectively.
