The main manifestations of Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) are a spherical expansion of the left ventricle or near the apex and decreased systolic function. TTS is mostly thought to be induced by emotional ...stress, and the induction of TTS by severe infection is not often reported. A 72-year-old female patient with liver abscess reported herein was admitted due to repeated fever with a history of hypertension and impaired glucose tolerance. Her severe infection caused TTS, and her blood pressure dropped to 80/40 mmHg. IABP treatment was performed immediately and continued for 10 days, and comprehensive medication was administered. Based on her disease course and her smooth recovery, general insights and learnings may be: Adding to mental and other pathological stress reaction, serious infections from pathogenic microorganism could be of great important causation of stress reaction leading to TTS, while basic diseases such as coronary heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes were be of promoting factors; In addition to effective drug therapies for TTS, the importance of the timely using of IABP should be emphasized.

noise of the sensor element was greatly reduced by three orders of magnitude after annealing at 400 °C for 7200 s, which was mainly due to the significant microstructural changes during the annealing. However, when the sensor element was applied to detect the magnetic signal of a magnetic code disk with 512 N–S magnetic poles, the output voltage signal of the sensor displayed a large fluctuation of ± 0.05 V. In order to reduce the voltage fluctuation, a magnetic sensor chip by using a parallelly arranged multi-path Wheatstone bridges and auto-gain compensation structure was designed, and magnetic sensor elements and the high-performance computing drive module were prepared. The output voltage fluctuation of the magnetic sensor was reduced by about 90% and approached to ± 0.005 V. These findings provide an important basis for the practical application of NiFe-based magnetic sensing film materials.

The fatty acid-binding protein (FABP) gene family, which encodes a group of fatty acid-trafficking molecules that affect cellular functions, has been studied extensively in mammals. However, little ...is known about the gene structure, expression profile, and regulatory mechanism of the gene family in chickens. In the present study, bioinformatics-based methods were used to identify the family members and investigate their evolutionary history and features of gene structure. Real-time PCR combined with in vivo and in vitro experiments were used to examine the spatiotemporal expression pattern, and explore the regulatory mechanism of FABP genes. The results show that nine members of the FABP gene family, which branched into two clusters and shared a conserved FATTYACIDBP domain, exist in the genome of chickens. Of these, seven FABP genes, including FABP1, FABP3-7, and FABP10 were abundantly expressed in the liver of hens. The expression levels of FABP1, FABP3, and FABP10 were significantly increased, FABP5 and FABP7 were significantly decreased, and FABP4 and FABP6 remained unchanged in hens at the peak laying stage in comparison to those at the pre-laying stage. Transcription of FABP1 and FABP3 were activated by estrogen via estrogen receptor (ER) α, whilst FABP10 was activated by estrogen via ERβ. Meanwhile, the expression of FABP1 was regulated by peroxisome proliferator activated receptor (PPAR) isoforms, of which tested PPARα and PPARβ agonists significantly inhibited the expression of FABP1, while tested PPARγ agonists significantly increased the expression of FABP1, but downregulated it when the concentration of the PPARγ agonist reached 100 nM. The expression of FABP3 was upregulated via tested PPARβ and PPARγ agonists, and the expression of FABP7 was selectively promoted via PPARγ. The expression of FABP10 was activated by all of the three tested PPAR agonists, but the expression of FABP4-6 was not affected by any of the PPAR agonists. In conclusion, members of the FABP gene family in chickens shared similar functional domains, gene structures, and evolutionary histories with mammalian species, but exhibited varying expression profiles and regulatory mechanisms. The results provide a valuable resource for better understanding the biological functions of individual FABP genes in chickens.

Background
Previous evidences have been proved that age, N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), and ejection fraction are tightly associated with the long-term outcomes in patients ...suffered from coronary artery disease (CAD). Therefore, the present study aimed to assess the prognosis value of age, NT-proBNP, and ejection fraction (ABEF) score in CAD patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Methods
Observational cohort methodology was used in this study which enrolled totally 3561 patients. And the patients were followed up regularly for 37.59 ± 22.24 months. Patients were classed into three groups based on the tertiles of ABEF sore: first tertile (<5.06, n = 831), second tertile (5.06-6.25, n = 839), and third tertile (≥ 6.25, n = 834). The ABEF score was calculated as follows: age (years)/ejection fraction (%) + NT-proBNP (NT-proBNP<177pg/mL was 1, 177≤NT-proBNP≥524pg/mL was 2 and NT-proBNP > 524pg/mL is 3). The association between ABEF score and adverse prognosis, including all-cause death (ACD), cardiac death (CD), major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) and major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCEs), in patients who underwent PCI was analyzed.
Results
According to the risk category of ABEF score, the incidences of ACD (P < .001), CD (P < .001) and MACCEs (P = .021) among the three groups showed significant differences. Multivariate Cox regression analysis suggested that the respective risks of ACD and CD were increased 3.013 folds (hazard risk HR = 4.013 95% confidence interval CI: 1.922-8.378, P < .001) and 4.922 folds (HR = 5.922 95% CI: 2.253-15.566, P < .001) in the third tertile compared with those in the first tertile. Kaplan-Meier survival analyses showed that the cumulative risks of ACD,CD and MACCEs in patients with the high ABEF score tended to increase.
Conclusion
The present study indicated ABEF score was a novel biomarker suitable for predicting adverse prognosis in patients after PCI, which may be used for early recognition and risk stratification.

remains unclear. ...Here, we investigate the profitable role of biomimetic scaffolds on 3D intestinal epithelium models. Gelatin/bacterial cellulose nanofiber composite scaffolds crosslinked by the Maillard reaction are tuned to mimic the chemical component, nanofibrous network, and crypt architecture of intestinal ECM collagen and the stability and mechanical properties of intestinal tissue. In particular, scaffolds with comparable elasticity and viscoelasticity of intestinal tissue possess the highest biocompatibility and best cell proliferation and differentiation ability, which makes the intestinal epithelium models closest to their counterpart intestinal tissues. The constructed duodenal epithelium models and colon epithelium models are utilized to assess the immunobiotics-host interactions, and both of them can sensitively respond to foreign microorganisms, but the secretion levels of cytokines are intestinal cell specific. Exposure to adverse experiences in early life may profoundly reshape the neurodevelopmental trajectories of the brain and lead to long-lasting behavioral and neural alterations. One deleterious ...effect of early-life stress that manifests in later life is sleep disturbance, but this has not been examined in aged mice and the underlying neural mechanisms remain unknown. Considering the important role of the nucleus accumbens (NAc) in the sleep-wake regulation, this study aimed to assess the effects of early-life stress on the sleep behaviors in aged mice and the potential involvement of the NAc in stress-induced sleep abnormalities.
Twenty aged male C57BL/6 mice (>16 months, n = 10 per group) were used in this study. During post-natal days 2 to 9, dams were provided with either sufficient (control) or a limited nesting and bedding materials (stressed). When the mice were 16 to 17 months old, their sleep-wake behaviors were recorded over 24 h using electroencephalogram and electromyelogram. The amount of each sleep-wake stage, mean duration, and stage transition was analyzed. Then, five animals were randomly chosen from each group and were used to measure the expression levels of vesicular glutamate transporter-1 (VGluT1) and vesicular transporters of γ-aminobutyric acid (VGAT) in the NAc using immunohistochemistry. Group comparisons were carried out using Student t test or analysis of variances when appropriate.
Compared with the control mice, the early-life stressed aged mice spent less time awake over 24 h (697.97 ± 77.47 min vs. 631.33 ± 34.73 min, t17 = 2.376, P = 0.030), accordingly, non-rapid eye movement sleep time was increased (667.37 ± 62.07 min vs. 723.54 ± 39.21 min, t17 = 2.326, P = 0.033) and mean duration of rapid eye movement sleep was prolonged (73.00 ± 8.98 min vs. 89.39 ± 12.69 min, t17 = 3.277, P = 0.004). Meanwhile, we observed decreased VGluT1/VGAT ratios in the NAc in the stressed group (F(1, 16) = 81.04, P < 0.001).

Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), is a major cause of neurologic disorders in terms of neonates, with the unclear underlying mechanisms. In the study, triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining and Zea-longa score were performed to examine the neurologic damage in hypoxia and ischemia (HI) rats. The results showed that HI induced obviously infarct and serious neurologic impairment in neonatal rats. Then, protein chip was applied to detect the differential expression genes in cortex and hippocampus and found the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) down-regulated both in cortex and hippocampus. Moreover, low expression of BDNF after HI in right cortex and hippocampus was validate by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and Western Blotting (WB). Afterwards, overexpressing and interfering HSV vector were produced, then verified by immunofluorescent staining and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The results of Tuj1 staining indicated that overexpression of BDNF could promote axonal regeneration and inhibit neuron swelling, whereas BDNF interference take an opposite effect after Oxygen glucose deprivation (OGD) injury. Finally, the interaction network among BDNF and associated proteins as examined by Genemania and confirmed by qRT-PCR. We found that the expression of VDAC1 was decreased and Stx1b was increased when BDNF overexpressing, which indicated that BDNF promoted neurite regrowth after OGD might be related to downregulation of VDAC1 and upregulation of Stx1b. Our results might provide novel strategy for the treatment of neurological defects induced by cerebral ischemia and hypoxia.

Major depressive disorder is a major psychiatric disorder and a leading cause of disability around the world. Females have about twice as high an incidence of depression as males. However, ...preclinical animal models of depression have seldom investigated the molecular alterations associated with higher depression risk in females. In this study, adopting the early-life stress (ELS) paradigm of limited bedding and nesting material, we found that ELS induced depression-like behaviors only in adult female mice, as evaluated by sucrose preference and tail suspension tests. We then examined the ELS effects on monoamine neurotransmission (transporters for monoamine reuptake and release) in depression-related brain regions in female mice. We found that ELS resulted in widespread changes of the expression levels of these transporters in four brain regions. Moreover, systemic 21-day treatment with vortioxetine, a novel multimodal antidepressant, successfully reversed depression-like behaviors and normalized some molecular changes, including that of the norepinephrine transporter in the medial prefrontal cortex, vesicular monoamine transporter 2 in nucleus accumbens core, and serotonin transporter in amygdala. Collectively, these results provide evidence for the validity of using the limited bedding and nesting material paradigm to investigate sex differences in depression and demonstrate that the region-specific alterations of monoamine neurotransmission may be associated with depression-like behaviors in female mice.

What is the genetic aetiology of three resistant ovary syndrome (ROS) pedigrees from 13 Chinese Han families with non-syndromic premature ovarian insufficiency (POI).
The proband in each family was ...subjected to whole-exome sequencing. Bioinformatic and in-vitro functional analyses were performed for the functional characterization of the FSHR mutations.
Four novel mutations, two homozygous mutations (c.419delA, c.1510C>T), and a compound heterozygous mutation (c.44G>A and deletion of exons 1 and 2) of FSHR were identified in the three non-syndromic POI-with-ROS families. Bioinformatic analysis predicted that the three novel point mutations in FSHR are deleterious and associated with POI in the three families, which was confirmed by in-vitro functional analysis, in which FSH-induced adenosine 3′,5′-cyclic monophosphate production was abolished for all receptors.
The three novel point mutations in FSHR were all functional inactivating mutations, and were the genetic aetiology of the three non-syndromic POI-with-ROS families. The first FSHR frameshift mutation is reported here, and the first missense mutation in the signal peptide-encoding region of FSHR to be associated with POI. Women affected by ROS should consider undergoing mutation screening for FSHR.
