The aim of the present study was to assess the direct effect of lithium on cAMP dependent phosphorylation. The results show that lithium, but not rubidium, at therapeutic and high concentrations ...significantly decreases the cAMP stimulated MAP2 endogenous phosphorylation in microtubule fraction. An inhibitory effect of lithium has also been found using purified heat stable microtubule proteins phosphorylated by the catalytic subunit of PKA. These data suggest a direct effect of lithium on the cAMP dependent protein kinase.

Objective: The frequency of endometriotic lesions in the right and left hemipelvis was analysed in 856 women with endometriosis. Eligible for the study were women with primary or secondary sterility, ...chronic pelvic pain, fibroids or benign ovarian cysts requiring laparoscopy or laparotomy consecutively observed between May 1991 and July 1992 in 23 obstetric and gynecology departments in Italy. Women with a previous diagnosis of endometriosis were excluded. A total of 3684 women entered the study. Of those, 856 had endometriosis and are considered in the present analysis.
Results: Five hundred and ninety four had bilateral lesions (including both ovarian and peritoneal lesions). Of the 262 women with unilateral lesions, 118 (45%, 95% confidence intervals (CI) 38–54) had the lesions in the right side of the pelvis and 144 (55%) in the left one.
Conclusions: From an anatomical point of view, these findings support the transplantation therapy in the pathogenesis of endometriosis.

We report a case of a young female patient with a rare and recently described form of brain tumor. This patient had a history of headache, hemiparesis and motor simple partial seizures. Her ...investigation revealed a brain tumor involving the left frontal and parietal lobes. The radiological images showed a cystic mass with multiple nodular masses and a rim of contrast enhancement extending from the right parietal cortex to the ipsilateral ventricle and corpus callosum. The patient underwent gross resection of the lesion and the histological analysis of the surgical specimen revealed a pseudopapillary structure formed by delicate vessels intermixed with a fibrillary pattern and bordered by intense astrocytic reaction with Rosenthal fibers. These features correspond to the recently described mixed neuronal-glial neoplasm, the papillary glioneuronal tumor. The patient has been followed for five years since the surgical treatment, without evidence of tumor recurrence, confirming the indolent behavior of this type of tumor.
In this work it was analyzed the validation of CBERS-1 (China and Brazillian Earth Resourses Satellite) data related to qualitative and quantitative parameters that define the precision of its ...georeferencing. A topographical survey was carried out for the acquisition of ground control points spatially well distributed in the study area, employing differential GPS, aiming at the georeferencing of the image. Tests with different numbers of sampling points and several methods of Geometric Transformation and Resampling were made during the georeferencing. These results were statistically analyzed to determine the best method to georeference CBERS-1 images. It was verified that the first-degree polinomial transformation with nearest neighborhood resampling presented the best result, showing a precision of 18,52m.
We propose techniques to handle potential disruption of active lightpath(s) due to crosstalk introduced by setup of new lightpath. Simulation results suggest that suitable RSVP-TE extensions are ...sufficient for deployment in real traffic scenarios.
BACKGROUND Abnormalities in the cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)–dependent phosphorylation system have been recently reported in patients with bipolar disorder. We evaluated the immunoreactivity ...of the regulatory and catalytic subunits of cAMP-dependent protein kinase (protein kinase A) and 1 of its substrates, Rap1, in platelets from untreated euthymic, manic, and depressed patients with bipolar disorder and healthy subjects. METHODS Platelets were collected from 112 drug-free patients with bipolar disorder (52 euthymic, 29 depressed, and 31 manic) and 62 healthy subjects. The levels of cAMP-dependent protein kinase and Rap1 were assessed by Western blot analysis, immunostaining, and computer-assisted imaging. RESULTS The immunolabeling of the catalytic subunit of cAMP-dependent protein kinase was significantly different among groups (P<.001), with higher values in untreated depressed and manic patients with bipolar disorder compared with untreated euthymic patients with bipolar disorder and healthy subjects. No significant differences were found in the immunolabeling of the regulatory subunits (type I and type II) of cAMP-dependent protein kinase. The immunolabeling of Rap1 was significantly higher (P<.001) in untreated euthymic, depressed, and manic patients than in healthy persons. CONCLUSIONS Levels of Rap1 and the catalytic subunit of cAMP-dependent protein kinase are altered in the platelets of bipolar patients. These findings may provide clues toward understanding the involvement of cAMP signaling in the pathogenesis of bipolar disorder.Arch Gen Psychiatry. 1999;56:248-253-->
