Aims
. We seek to provide abundances of a large set of light and neutron-capture elements homogeneously analyzed that cover a wide range of metallicity to constrain globular cluster (GC) formation ...and evolution models.
Methods
. We analyzed a large sample of 885 GCs giants from the SDSS IV-Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE) survey. We used the Cannon results to separate the red giant branch and asymptotic giant branch stars, not only allowing for a refinement of surface gravity from isochrones, but also providing an independent
H
-band spectroscopic method to distinguish stellar evolutionary status in clusters. We then used the Brussels Automatic Code for Characterizing High accUracy Spectra (BACCHUS) to derive metallicity, microturbulence, macroturbulence, many light-element abundances, and the neutron-capture elements Nd and Ce for the first time from the APOGEE GCs data.
Results
. Our independent analysis helped us to diagnose issues regarding the standard analysis of the APOGEE DR14 for low-metallicity GC stars. Furthermore, while we confirm most of the known correlations and anticorrelation trends (Na-O, Mg-Al, C-N), we discover that some stars within our most metal-poor clusters show an extreme Mg depletion and some Si enhancement. At the same time, these stars show some relative Al depletion, displaying a turnover in the Mg-Al diagram. These stars suggest that Al has been partially depleted in their progenitors by very hot proton-capture nucleosynthetic processes. Furthermore, we attempted to quantitatively correlate the spread of Al abundances with the global properties of GCs. We find an anticorrelation of the Al spread against clusters metallicity and luminosity, but the data do not allow us to find clear evidence of a dependence of N against metallicity in the more metal-poor clusters.
Conclusions
. Large and homogeneously analyzed samples from ongoing spectroscopic surveys unveil unseen chemical details for many clusters, including a turnover in the Mg-Al anticorrelation, thus yielding new constrains for GCs formation/evolution models.

Abstract Purpose The purpose of this study was to determine whether prenatal imaging parameters are predictive of postnatal CDH-associated pulmonary morbidity. Methods The records of all neonates ...with CDH treated from 2004 to 2012 were reviewed. Patients requiring supplemental oxygen at 30 days of life (DOL) were classified as having chronic lung disease (CLD). Fetal MRI-measured observed/expected total fetal lung volume (O/E-TFLV) and percent liver herniation (%LH) were recorded. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and multivariate regression were applied to assess the prognostic value of O/E-TFLV and %LH for development of CLD. Results Of 172 neonates with CDH, 108 had fetal MRIs, and survival was 76%. 82% (89/108) were alive at DOL 30, 46 (52%) of whom had CLD. Neonates with CLD had lower mean O/E-TFLV (30vs.42%; p = 0.001) and higher %LH (21.3 ± 2.8 vs.7.1 ± 1.8%; p < 0.001) compared to neonates without CLD. Using ROC analysis, the best cutoffs in predicting CLD were an O/E-TFLV < 35% (AUC = 0.74; p < 0.001) and %LH > 20% (AUC =0.78; p < 0.001). On logistic regression, O/E-TFLV < 35% and a %LH > 20% were highly associated with indicators of long-term pulmonary sequelae. On multivariate analysis, %LH was the strongest predictor of CLD in patients with CDH (OR: 10.96, 95%CI: 2.5–48.9, p = 0.002). Conclusion Prenatal measurement of O/E-TFLV and %LH is predictive of CDH pulmonary morbidity and can aid in establishing parental expectations of postnatal outcomes.

In this work, we make use of DR14 APOGEE spectroscopic data to study a sample of 92 known OB stars. We developed a near-infrared semi-empirical spectral classification method that was successfully ...used in case of four new exemplars, previously classified as later B-type stars. Our results agree well with those determined independently from ECHELLE optical spectra, being in line with the spectral types derived from the "canonical" MK blue optical system. This confirms that the APOGEE spectrograph can also be used as a powerful tool in surveys aiming to unveil and study a large number of moderately and highly obscured OB stars still hidden in the Galaxy.
Context.
Nearby young associations offer one of the best opportunities for a detailed study of the properties of young stellar and substellar objects thanks to their proximity (<200 pc) and age ...(∼5−150 Myr). Previous works have identified spectroscopic (<5 au) binaries, close (5−1000 au) visual binaries, and wide or extremely wide (1000−100 000 au) binaries in the young associations. In most of the previous analyses, single-lined spectroscopic binaries (SB1) were identified based on radial velocities variations. However, this apparent variation may also be caused by mechanisms unrelated to multiplicity.
Aims.
We seek to update the spectroscopy binary fraction of the Search for Associations Containing Young stars (SACY) sample, taking into consideration all possible biases in our identification of binary candidates, such as activity and rotation.
Methods.
Using high-resolution spectroscopic observations, we produced ∼1300 cross-correlation functions (CCFs) to disentangle the previously mentioned sources of contamination. The radial velocity values we obtained were cross-matched with the literature and then used to revise and update the spectroscopic binary (SB) fraction in each object of the SACY association. In order to better describe the CCF profile, we calculated a set of high-order cross-correlation features to determine the origin of the variations in radial velocities.
Results.
We identified 68 SB candidates from our sample of 410 objects. Our results hint that at the possibility that the youngest associations have a higher SB fraction. Specifically, we found sensitivity-corrected SB fractions of 22

Pictoris, in contrast to the five oldest associations we have sampled (∼35−125 Myr) which are ∼10% or lower. This result seems independent of the methodology used to asses membership to the associations.
Conclusions.
The new CCF analysis, radial velocity estimates, and SB candidates are particularly relevant for membership revision of targets in young stellar associations. These targets would be ideal candidates for follow-up campaigns using high-resolution techniques to confirm binarity, resolve orbits, and, ideally, calculate dynamical masses. Additionally, if the results on the SB fraction in the youngest associations were confirmed, it could hint at a non-universal multiplicity among SACY associations.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the enzymatic extract (EnzE) of native fungus Trametes maxima CU1 on the productive parameters and carcass yield of rabbits. A total of 36 rabbits, ...18 New Zealand and 18 California breeds were distributed randomly into two treatments: control (without EnzE supplementation) and EnzE2.5 (with 2.5% of enzymatic extract added to drinking water). All rabbits were fed with a commercial diet ad libitum. At 49, 71, and 91 d, data for body weight (BW), average daily feed intake (ADFI), feed efficiency, and average daily gain were collected. Moreover, dressing out percentage (DoP) and carcass fat yield (%CFY) were estimated. BW and ADFI were not different between treatments (P > 0.05). However, rabbits supplemented with EnzE2.5 showed higher values than the control. Rabbits EnzE2.5 and New Zealand males showed the best productive efficiency at 49 d (P < 0.05). On the other hand, EnzE2.5 showed greater DoP than control; furthermore, EnzE2.5 did not show any effect over %CFY. These results show the potential of T. maxima CU1 as a source of lignocellulases and amylases for the improvement of productive behavior and carcasses yield.
Introduction
Some local protocols suggest using intermediate or therapeutic doses of anticoagulants for thromboprophylaxis in hospitalized patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19). However, ...the incidence of bleeding, predictors of major bleeding, or the association between bleeding and mortality remain largely unknown.
Methods
We performed a cohort study of patients hospitalized for COVID‐19 that received intermediate or therapeutic doses of anticoagulants from March 25 to July 22, 2020, to identify those at increased risk for major bleeding. We used bivariate and multivariable logistic regression to explore the risk factors associated with major bleeding.
Results
During the study period, 1965 patients were enrolled. Of them, 1347 (69%) received intermediate‐ and 618 (31%) therapeutic‐dose anticoagulation, with a median duration of 12 days in both groups. During the hospital stay, 112 patients (5.7%) developed major bleeding and 132 (6.7%) had non‐major bleeding. The 30‐day all‐cause mortality rate for major bleeding was 45% (95% confidence interval CI: 36%‐54%) and for non‐major bleeding 32% (95% CI: 24%‐40%). Multivariable analysis showed increased risk for in‐hospital major bleeding associated with D‐dimer levels >10 times the upper normal range (hazard ratio HR, 2.23; 95% CI, 1.38–3.59), ferritin levels >500 ng/ml (HR, 2.01; 95% CI, 1.02–3.95), critical illness (HR, 1.91; 95% CI, 1.14–3.18), and therapeutic‐intensity anticoagulation (HR, 1.43; 95% CI, 1.01–1.97).
Conclusions
Among patients hospitalized with COVID‐19 receiving intermediate‐ or therapeutic‐intensity anticoagulation, a major bleeding event occurred in 5.7%. Use of therapeutic‐intensity anticoagulation, critical illness, and elevated D‐dimer or ferritin levels at admission were associated with increased risk for major bleeding.

Evidence suggests exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) can influence Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) risk in adults, but it is unclear if EDCs impact women during midlife. We examined if EDCs ...measured in adult women were predictive of MetS and its components 9 years later.
We measured urinary phthalate metabolites, phenols, and parabens collected in 2008 among 73 females from the ELEMENT study. MetS and its components (Abdominal Obesity, Hypertriglyceridemia, Cholesterolemia, Hypertension, and Hyperglycemia) were assessed in 2017. We regressed log-transformed EDC concentrations on MetS and MetS components using logistic regression, adjusting for age and physical activity.
At follow-up, the mean (SD) age was 46.6 (6.3) years; the prevalence of MetS was 34.3%. Sum of dibutyl phthalate metabolites (ΣDBP), monobenzyl phthalate (MBzP), and monoethyl phthalate (MEP) were associated with an increased odds of hypertriglyceridemia. 2,5-dichlorophenol (2,5 DCP) and 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4 DCP) were associated with increased odds of hypertriglyceridemia. We found EDCs measured in 2008 were marginally predictive of hypertriglyceridemia and hypertension 9 years later. Results suggest that lower exposure to certain toxicants was related to lower markers of metabolic risk among midlife women.
Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) exhibits a diverse outcome. Patients with acute/subacute HP usually improve, whereas patients with chronic disease often progress to fibrosis. However, the ...mechanisms underlying this difference are unknown.
To examine the T-cell profile from patients with subacute HP and chronic HP.
T cells were obtained by bronchoalveolar lavage from 25 patients with subacute HP, 30 patients with chronic HP, and 8 control subjects. T-cell phenotype and functional profile were evaluated by flow cytometry, cytometric bead array, and immunohistochemistry.
Patients with chronic HP showed higher CD4+:CD8+ ratio (median, 3.05; range, 0.3-15; subacute HP: median, 1.3; range, 0.1-10; control: median, 1.3; range, 0.7-2.0; P < 0.01), and a decrease of gammadeltaT cells (median, 2.0; range, 0.5-3.4; subacute HP: median, 10; range, 4.8-17; control: median, 15; range, 5-19; P < 0.01). Patients with chronic HP exhibited an increase in the terminally differentiated memory CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell subsets compared with patients with subacute HP (P < 0.05). However, memory cells from chronic HP showed lower IFN-gamma production and decreased cytotoxic activity by CD8+ T lymphocytes. Chronic HP displayed a Th2-like phenotype with increased CXCR4 expression (median, 6%; range, 1.7-36, vs. control subjects: median, 0.7%; range, 0.2-1.4; and subacute HP: median, 2.2%; range, 0.1-5.3; P < 0.01), and decreased CXCR3 expression (median, 4.3%; range, 1.4-25%, vs. subacute HP: median, 37%; range, 4.9-78%; P < 0.01). Likewise, supernatants from antigen-specific-stimulated cells from chronic HP produced higher levels of IL-4 (80 +/- 63 pg/ml vs. 25 +/- 7 pg/ml; P < 0.01), and lower levels of IFN-gamma (3,818 +/- 1671 pg/ml vs. 100 +/- 61 pg/ml; P < 0.01) compared with subacute HP.
Our findings indicate that patients with chronic HP lose effector T-cell function and exhibit skewing toward Th2 activity, which may be implicated in the fibrotic response that characterizes this clinical form.

Untargeted metabolomics was used to identify metabolites correlated with self-reported habitual alcohol intake in a discovery dataset from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC; n = 454). Statistically significant correlations were tested in independent datasets of controls from case-control studies nested within EPIC (n = 280) and the Alpha-Tocopherol, Beta-Carotene Cancer Prevention (ATBC; n = 438) study. Conditional logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for associations of alcohol-associated metabolites and self-reported alcohol intake with risk of pancreatic cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), liver cancer, and liver disease mortality in the contributing studies.
Two metabolites displayed a dose-response association with self-reported alcohol intake: 2-hydroxy-3-methylbutyric acid and an unidentified compound. A 1-SD (log2) increase in levels of 2-hydroxy-3-methylbutyric acid was associated with risk of HCC (OR = 2.54, 95% CI = 1.51 to 4.27) and pancreatic cancer (OR = 1.43, 95% CI = 1.03 to 1.99) in EPIC and liver cancer (OR = 2.00, 95% CI = 1.44 to 2.77) and liver disease mortality (OR = 2.16, 95% CI = 1.63 to 2.86) in ATBC. Conversely, a 1-SD (log2) increase in questionnaire-derived alcohol intake was not associated with HCC or pancreatic cancer in EPIC or liver cancer in ATBC but was associated with liver disease mortality (OR = 2.19, 95% CI = 1.60 to 2.98) in ATBC.
2-hydroxy-3-methylbutyric acid is a candidate biomarker of habitual alcohol intake that may advance the study of alcohol and cancer risk in population-based studies.
The damage caused by the combination of corrosion and wear processes on the materials that machine elements are produced causes huge losses in several industries such as mineral processing, chemical, ...petrochemical and power generation. Some devices that operate in harsh environments, such as centrifugal pumps for transportation of caustic liquor used in the industries of production of aluminum, undergo a rapid deterioration of their materials by the coexistence of corrosion and erosion at temperatures around 75°C. The aim of this work is to study new ways for the corrosive–erosive problems confronted by the aluminum and nickel industries. Several coating materials in powder or wire form applied by GMA welding and HVOF thermal spray techniques are compared in erosion and erosion–corrosion tests. Corrosion tests were performed for comparison. A solution of 1M NaOH was used as a corrosive medium to get the polarization curves The temperature of the electrolyte was 25°C. For pure erosion test, the slurry erosive agent was 4l of water and an erosive particle concentration of 400g/l. Particles of ferric oxide, HRC=40–50 and an average diameter of 600μm, were used as an erosive agent. The impact angle of 90° was tested, with an impact velocity of the abrasive particles of 31m/s. Tests were performed for each condition at a time of 2h at intervals of 20min. The results show that the best performance was that of the mixed stainless steel and cobalt alloys welded coating even though the general resistance to erosive–corrosive wear significantly favors cermets in relation to the other welded deposits.
•We applied carbides and iron alloy coatings onto low carbon steel.•Six different coatings were evaluated in erosion and erosion–corrosion tests.•The erosion resistance of the different WC coatings applied by HVOF was similar.•The welded coatings combining iron and cobalt alloys presented the best results.•The performance of chromium carbide coating was the worst of all studied samples.
