Objective
To analyze the early complications and causes of oblique lateral interbody fusion, and put forward preventive measures.
Methods
There were 235 patients (79 males and 156 females) analyzed ...in our study from October 2014 to May 2017. The average age was 61.9 ± 0.21 years (from 32 to 83 years). Ninety‐one cases were treated with oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF) alone (OLIF alone group) and 144 with OLIF combined with posterior pedicle screw fixation through the intermuscular space approach (OLIF combined group). In addition, 137/144 cases in the combined group were primarily treated by posterior pedicle screw fixation, while the treatments were postponed in 7 cases. There were 190 cases of single fusion segments, 11 of 2 segments, 21 of 3 segments, and 13 of 4 segments. Intraoperative and postoperative complications were observed.
Results
Average follow‐up time was 15.6 ± 7.5 months (ranged from 6 to 36 months). Five cases were lost to follow‐up (2 cases from the OLIF alone group and 3 cases from the OLIF combined group). There were 7 cases of vascular injury, 22 cases of endplate damage, 2 cases of vertebral body fracture, 11 cases of nerve injury, 18 cases of cage sedimentation or cage transverse shifting, 3 cases of iliac crest pain, 1 case of right psoas major hematoma, 2 cases of incomplete ileus, 1 case of acute heart failure, 1 case of cerebral infarction, 3 case of left lower abdominal pain, 9 cases of transient psoas weakness, 3 cases of transient quadriceps weakness, and 8 cases of reoperation. The complication incidence was 32.34%. Thirty‐three cases occurred in the OLIF alone group, with a rate of 36.26%, and 43 cases in the group of OLIF combined posterior pedicle screw fixation, with a rate of 29.86%. Fifty‐seven cases occurred in single‐segment fusion, with a rate of 30.0% (57/190), 4 cases occurred in two‐segment fusion, with a rate of 36.36% (4/11), 9 cases occurred in three‐segment fusion, with a rate of 42.86% (9/21), and 6 cases occurred in four‐segment fusion, with a rate of 46.15% (6/13).
Conclusion
In summary, OLIF is a relatively safe and very effective technique for minimally invasive lumbar fusion. Nonetheless, it should be noted that OLIF carries the risk of complications, especially in the early stage of development.

To investigate the clinicopathological value of the expression and amplification of P21-activated kinase 1 gene (PAK1) in colorectal carcinoma(CRC).
Immunohistochemistry (IHC), fluorescence in situ ...hybridization (FISH) and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end-labeling(TUNEL) methods were used to examine the protein expression, amplification of PAK1 and cell apoptosis in 80 cases of CRC and 30 cases of colorectal adenoma by tissue microarray.
IHC showed an overexpression of PAK1 protein in 26% of colorectal adenomas and 62% of CRCs. Significant association was found between expression of PAK1 and tumor histological grade as well as tumor clinical stage(P<0.05). In poor-differentiated(G(3)) CRCs, PAK1 expression in 90% carcinoma was up-regulated, which was significantly higher than that in tumors of G(1/2)(51%). With the LoVo cells as the target cells and human normal large intestinal mucosal epithelial cells as the absorber cells for subtraction biopanning from a c7c phage-display peptide library, the positive phage clones were identified by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and immunofluorescence detection. The amino acid sequences of the identified peptides were deduced by DNA sequencing.
After 3 rounds of screening, 5 positive phage clones showing specific binding to LoVo cells and containing conserved motif RPMP were obtained from the 20 randomly selected clones.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. The incidence of CRC in the Chinese population has increased dramatically during the last two decades; however, nonrandom ...chromosomal alterations in Chinese patients have not been described. In the present study, comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) was applied to detect recurrent chromosome alterations in 26 primary colorectal carcinomas and 21 colorectal adenomas from Chinese patients. In CRC, several recurrent chromosomal changes were found, including gains of 8q (14/26 cases, 54%), 20q (54%), 3q (50%), 13q (50%), 5p (46%), 7p (42%), 7q (42%), and 12p (38%) and losses of 18q (65%) and 17p (42%). From comparison with previous CGH studies, the frequent gains of 3q and 12p might be distinctive occurrences in Chinese patients. The distribution of frequently found chromosomal alterations in different locations was studied. The gain of 20q was more frequently found in colon cancer (
P<0.01) and the gain of 12p was more frequently found in rectal cancer. Chromosomal alterations were found in 19/21 of adenomas; the most frequent chromosomal alteration was the loss of 18q (9/21 cases, 43%). Background
In multiple myeloma (MM), impact of specific chromosomal translocations involving IgH (14q21 locus, including t(4;14), t(11;14), and t(14;16)) has been explored extensively. However, over ...15% MM patients harboring IgH translocation with undefined partners have long been ignored.
Methods
A prospective non‐randomized cohort study with a total of 715 newly‐diagnosed MM cases was conducted, 13.6% of whom were t(14;undefined) positive. The whole cohort was divided into four groups: no IgH split (47.7%); t(14;undefined) (13.6%); t(11;14) (17.6%); and t(4;14) or t(14;16) group (21.1%).
Results
Median OS for the four groups was 84.2, not reached (NR), 58.7, and 44.2 months, respectively, with P values for t(14;undefined) vs no IgH split, t(11;14), and t(4;14)/t(14;16) groups of 0.197, 0.022, and 0.001, respectively. In bortezomib‐based group, the survival advantage gained by t(14;undefined) group was much more significant compared to t(11;14) and t(4;14)/t(14;16) groups. Importantly, t(14;undefined) turned out to be an independent predictive factor for longer OS of MM patients in multivariate analysis, especially in the context of bortezomib treatment. Similar results were also observed in the PUMCH external validation cohort.
Conclusion
Collectively, our data confirmed and externally validated the favorable prognosis of the t(14;undefined) groups, especially in the era of novel agents.

In this report, the anti-hepatitis B virus (HBV) activity of dehydrocheilanthifoline (DHCH), a quaternary ammonium alkaloid isolated from the traditional Chinese medicine Corydalis saxicola Bunting ...(Papaveraceae), was determined in vitro. Following six days of treatment, DHCH efficiently suppressed the secretions of HBsAg and HBeAg in HepG2.2.15 cell cultures, with a half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC(50)) of 15.84 and 17.12 μM, and with a therapeutic index (TI) of 7.32 and 6.77, respectively. Further studies revealed that DHCH reduced the levels of extracellular DNA, intracellular DNA and covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA) of HBV in a dose-dependent and time-dependent manner, with IC(50) values of 15.08, 7.62 and 8.25 μM, respectively after six days of treatment. In contrast, the level of viral pre-genomic RNA (pgRNA) increased 6.13-fold after treatment with DHCH. Together, it was demonstrated for the first time that DHCH could significantly inhibit the replication of HBV, which warrants further studies on the antiviral mechanisms of DHCH, and suggests that it may be a promising candidate in the therapy of HBV infection.
