GRB 160625B, one of the brightest bursts in recent years, was simultaneously observed by Fermi and Swift satellites, and ground-based optical telescopes in three different events separated by long ...periods of time. In this paper, the non-thermal multiwavelength observations of GRB 160625B are described and a transition phase from wind-type-like medium to interstellar medium (ISM) between the early (event II) and the late (event III) afterglow is found. The multiwavelength observations of the early afterglow are consistent with the afterglow evolution starting at ∼150 s in a stellar wind medium, whereas the observations of the late afterglow are consistent with the afterglow evolution in ISM. The wind-to-ISM transition is calculated to be at s when the jet has decelerated, at a distance of ∼1 pc from the progenitor. Using the standard external shock model, the synchrotron and synchrotron self-Compton emission from reverse shock is required to model the GeV γ-ray and optical observations in the early afterglow, and synchrotron radiation from the adiabatic forward shock to describe the X-ray and optical observations in the late afterglow. The derived values of the magnetization parameter, the slope of the fast decay of the optical flash, and the inferred magnetic fields suggest that Poynting flux-dominated jet models with arbitrary magnetization could account for the spectral properties exhibited by GRB 160625B.
Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are bright radio transients with millisecond duration at cosmological distances. Since compact dark matter/objects (COs) could act as lenses and cause splitting of these ...kinds of very short duration signals, Muñoz et al. have proposed a novel method to probe COs with lensing of FRBs. In this Letter, we for the first time apply this method to real data and give constraints of the nature of COs with currently available FRB observations. We emphasize that the information from dynamic spectra of FRBs is quite necessary for identifying any lensed signals and find no echoes in the existing data. The null search gives a constraint comparable to that from galactic wide binaries, though the methods of redshift inference from the dispersion measure would impact a little. Furthermore, we make an improved forecast based on the distributions of real data for the ongoing and upcoming telescopes. Finally, we discuss the situation where one or more lensed signals will be detected. In such a case, the parameter space of COs can be pinned down very well since the lens mass can be directly determined through the observed flux ratio and time delay between split images.
Abstract
As a novel X-ray focusing technology, lobster-eye micropore optics (MPO) feature both a wide observing field of view and true imaging capability, promising sky monitoring with significantly ...improved sensitivity and spatial resolution in soft X-rays. Since first proposed by Angel, the optics have been extensively studied, developed and trialed over the past decades. In this Letter, we report on the first-light results from a flight experiment of the Lobster Eye Imager for Astronomy, a pathfinder of the wide-field X-ray telescope of the Einstein Probe mission. The piggyback imager, launched in 2022 July, has a mostly unvignetted field of view of 18.°6 × 18.°6. Its spatial resolution is in the range of 4′–7′ in FWHM and the focal spot effective area is 2–3 cm

, both showing only mild fluctuations across the field of view. We present images of the Galactic center region, Sco X-1, and the diffuse Cygnus Loop nebular taken in snapshot observations over 0.5–4 keV. These are truly wide-field X-ray images of celestial bodies observed, for the first time, by a focusing imaging telescope. Initial analyses of the in-flight data show excellent agreement between the observed images and the on-ground calibration and simulations. The instrument and its characterization are briefly described, as well as the flight experiment. The results provide a solid basis for the development of the present and proposed wide-field X-ray missions using lobster-eye MPO.
ABSTRACT
Very high energy (VHE) γ-rays ($\gtrsim\!\! 0.1\rm ~TeV$) and neutrinos are crucial for identifying accelerators of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs), but this is challenging especially ...for UHECR nuclei. In this work, we develop a numerical code to solve the transport equation for UHECRs and their secondaries, where both nuclear and electromagnetic cascades are taken into account self-consistently, considering steady UHECR accelerators such as radio galaxies. In particular, we focus on Centaurus A, which has been proposed as one of the most promising UHECR sources in the local Universe. Motivated by observations of extended VHE γ-ray emission from its kiloparsec-scale jet by the High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.), we study interactions between UHECRs accelerated in the large-scale jet and various target photon fields including blazar-like beamed core emission, and present a quantitative study on VHE γ-ray signatures of UHECR nuclei, including the photodisintegration and Bethe–Heitler pair production processes. We show that VHE γ-rays from UHECR nuclei could be detected by the ground-based γ-ray telescopes given that the dominant composition of UHECRs consists of intermediate-mass (such as oxygen) nuclei.
Fatigue life scattering and prediction of Inconel 718 fabricated by selective laser melting were investigated using miniature specimen tests combined with statistical method and machine learning ...algorithms. The relationship between pore features and fatigue life of the selective laser melting-fabricated specimens was analyzed statistically. The results show that the increase in the size and/or the number of the pores in the specimens, and/or the decrease in the distance from a pore center to the specimen surface degraded the fatigue life. The machine learning and statistical analysis results reveal that the fatigue life are most closely related to the location of the pores compared with the size and the number of pores in the specimens. The finding may provide a potential way to get high-throughput statistical data helping in evaluating defect-dominated scattering and prediction of fatigue life of additive manufactured metallic parts using miniature specimen testing assisted by the machine learning approach.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in gastric cancer development and progression. However, the expression and role of miRNAs in gastric cancer stromal cells are still unclear.
The miRNAs differentially ...expressed in gastric cancer tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (GC-MSCs) relative to adjacent non-cancerous tissue-derived MSCs (GCN-MSCs) and in cancer tissues relative to adjacent non-cancerous tissues were screened using miRNA microarray and validated by quantitative RT-PCR. The impact of GC-MSCs on HGC-27 cells was observed in vitro using colony formation and transwell assays, and these cells were subcutaneously co-injected into mice to assess tumour growth in vivo. Exogenous downregulation of miR-221 expression in cells was achieved using an miRNA inhibitor.
miR-214, miR-221 and miR-222 were found to be commonly upregulated in GC-MSCs and cancer tissues. Their levels were tightly associated with lymph node metastasis, venous invasion and the TNM stage. Gastric cancer tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells significantly promoted HGC-27 growth and migration and increased the expression of miR-221 via paracrine secretion, and the targeted inhibition of miR-221 in GC-MSCs could block its tumour-supporting role. GC-MSC-derived exosomes were found to deliver miR-221 to HGC-27 cells and promoted their proliferation and migration.
Gastric cancer tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells favour gastric cancer progression by transferring exosomal miRNAs to gastric cancer cells, thus providing a novel mechanism for the role of GC-MSCs and new biomarkers for gastric cancer.

Particle trapping and binding in optical potential wells provide a versatile platform for various biomedical applications. However, implementation systems to study multi-particle contact interactions ...in an optical lattice remain rare. By configuring an optofluidic lattice, we demonstrate the precise control of particle interactions and functions such as controlling aggregation and multi-hopping. The mean residence time of a single particle is found considerably reduced from 7 s, as predicted by Kramer's theory, to 0.6 s, owing to the mechanical interactions among aggregated particles. The optofluidic lattice also enables single-bacteria-level screening of biological binding agents such as antibodies through particle-enabled bacteria hopping. The binding efficiency of antibodies could be determined directly, selectively, quantitatively and efficiently. This work enriches the fundamental mechanisms of particle kinetics and offers new possibilities for probing and utilising unprecedented biomolecule interactions at single-bacteria level.
Abstract
Tidal disruption events (TDE) have been considered as cosmic-ray and neutrino sources for a decade. We suggest two classes of new scenarios for high-energy multi-messenger emission from TDEs ...that do not have to harbor powerful jets. First, we investigate high-energy neutrino and gamma-ray production in the core region of a supermassive black hole. In particular, we show that ∼1–100 TeV neutrinos and MeV gamma rays can efficiently be produced in hot coronae around an accretion disk. We also study the consequences of particle acceleration in radiatively inefficient accretion flows (RIAFs). Second, we consider possible cosmic-ray acceleration by sub-relativistic disk-driven winds or interactions between tidal streams, and show that subsequent hadronuclear and photohadronic interactions inside the TDE debris lead to GeV-PeV neutrinos and sub-GeV cascade gamma rays. We demonstrate that these models should be accompanied by soft gamma rays or hard X-rays as well as optical/UV emission, which can be used for future observational tests. Although this work aims to present models of non-jetted high-energy emission, we discuss the implications of the TDE AT2019dsg that might coincide with the high-energy neutrino IceCube-191001A, by considering the corona, RIAF, hidden sub-relativistic wind, and hidden jet models. It is not yet possible to be conclusive about their physical association and the expected number of neutrinos is typically much less than unity. We find that the most optimistic cases of the corona and hidden wind models could be consistent with the observation of IceCube-191001A, whereas jet models are unlikely to explain the multi-messenger observations.
We present improved germanium-based constraints on sub-GeV dark matter via dark matter-electron (χ-e) scattering using the 205.4 kg·day dataset from the CDEX-10 experiment. Using a novel calculation ...technique, we attain predicted χ-e scattering spectra observable in high-purity germanium detectors. In the heavy mediator scenario, our results achieve 3 orders of magnitude of improvement for m_{χ} larger than 80 MeV/c^{2} compared to previous germanium-based χ-e results. We also present the most stringent χ-e cross-section limit to date among experiments using solid-state detectors for m_{χ} larger than 90 MeV/c^{2} with heavy mediators and m_{χ} larger than 100 MeV/c^{2} with electric dipole coupling. The result proves the feasibility and demonstrates the vast potential of a new χ-e detection method with high-purity germanium detectors in ultralow radioactive background.
