Chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH) promotes the development of Alzheimer's pathology. However, whether and how CCH impairs the synaptic vesicle trafficking is still unclear. In the present study, ...we found that the hippocampal glutamatergic vesicle trafficking was impaired as indicated by a significant shortened delayed response enhancement (DRE) phase in CA3-CA1 circuit and decreased synapsin I in CCH rats suffering from bilateral common carotid artery occlusion (2VO). Further study showed an upregulated miR-153 in the hippocampus of 2VO rats. In vitro, overexpression of miR-153 downregulated synapsin I by binding the 3′UTRs of SYN1 mRNAs, which was prevented by its antisense AMO-153 and miRNA-masking antisense oligodeoxynucleotides (SYN1-ODN). In vivo, the upregulation of miR-153 elicited similar reduced DRE phase and synapsin I deficiency as CCH. Furthermore, miR-153 knockdown rescued the downregulated synapsin I and shortened DRE phase in 2VO rats. Our results demonstrate that CCH impairs hippocampal glutamatergic vesicle trafficking by upregulating miR-153, which suppresses the expression of synapsin I at the post-transcriptional level. These results will provide important references for drug research and treatment of vascular dementia.

In order to counteract the adverse effects of biases in direct inertial navigation system/global navigation satellite system integration, a novel robust partly strong tracking consider ...state-dependent Riccati equation filter (PSTCSDREF) algorithm is proposed. A nonlinear 'consider' approach is utilized to incorporate bias statistics into a state estimation error covariance of the state-dependent Riccati equation filter (SDREF), and a new consider SDREF (CSDREF) is proposed. Next, the prediction covariance of the state is partly multiplied by a strong tracking factor, which does not include bias covariance, so as to mitigate the adverse effects of model uncertainties on navigation performance. Numerical simulation demonstrates that the proposed PSTCSDREF demonstrates better navigational accuracy as compared with the extended Kalman filter, SDREF, and CSDREF.
Background: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation (IABP) on the prognosis of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods: We identified and ...included in this study AMI cases treated with IABP from January 1970 to May 2014. For statistical analysis, we utilized RevMan 5.0 software. Results: Fourteen RCTs with a total population of 2538 were included in this study. The in-hospital and 30-day mortality rate in the IABP group was not significantly lower than those in the non-IABP group. Subgroup analysis according to the type of revascularization, OR values of TT subgroup, PCI subgroup, and CABG subgroup were 0.64 (95% CI 0.25-1.61, p = 0.34), 0.85 (95% CI 0.65-1.11, p = 0.23) and 0.46 (95% CI 0.13-1.63, p = 0.23). And OR values of AMI patients in the before and after PCI subgroup were 0.43 (95% CI 0.21-0.91, p = 0.03) and 1.36 (95% CI 0.76-2.41, p = 0.30). The 6-month mortality in the IABP group was not significantly lower than that in the non-IABP group. And OR values of 6-month mortalities of the before and after PCI subgroup were 0.47 (95% CI 0.26-0.86, p = 0.01) and 1.40 (95% CI 0.57-3.45, p = 0.47). Conclusions: IABP did not reduce the in-hospital and 30-day mortality of AMI patients, and did not reduce the 6-month mortality. But IABP used in AMI patients before PCI was associated not only with reduced in-hospital and 30-day mortality, but also reduced 6-month mortality.

AIM: To investigate the expression of insulin-like growth factor binding protein-6(IGFBP-6) in a proliferative vitreoretinopathy(PVR) model and its effects on proliferation and migration in retinal ...pigment epithelial(RPE) cells. ·METHODS: A PVR Wistar rat model was established by the intravitreal injection of RPE-J cells combined with platelet-rich plasma(PRP). The expression levels of IGFBP-6 were tested by ELISA. ARPE-19 cell proliferation was evaluated by the MTS method,and cell migration was evaluated by wound healing assays. ·RESULTS: The success rate of the PVR model was 89.3%(25/28). IGFBP-6 was expressed at higher levels in the vitreous,serum and retina of rats experiencing advanced PVR(grade 3) than in the control group(vitreous: 152.80 ±15.08ng/mL vs 105.44 ±24.81ng/mL,P > 0.05; serum: 93.48 ±9.27ng/mL vs 80.59 ±5.20ng/mL,P < 0.05; retina: 3.02±0.38ng/mg vs 2.05±0.53ng/mg,P <0.05). In vitro,IGFBP-6(500ng/mL) inhibited the IGF-II(50ng/mL) induced ARPE-19 cell proliferation(OD value at 24h: from 1.38±0.05 to 1.30±0.02; 48h: from 1.44±0.06 to 1.35± 0.05). However,it did not affect basal or VEGF-,TGF-β-and PDGF-induced cell proliferation. IGFBP-6(500ng/ml) reduced the IGF-II(50ng/mL)-induced would healing rate 24h: from(43.91 ±3.85)% to(29.76 ±2.49)%; 48h: from(66.09±1.67)% to(59.88±3.43)%. ·CONCLUSION: Concentrations of IGFBP-6 increased in the vitreous,serum,and retinas only in advanced PVR in vivo. IGFBP-6 also inhibited IGF-II-induced cell proliferation in a not dose or time dependent manner and migration. IGFBP-6 participates in the development of PVR and might play a protective role in PVR.

The most common clinical manifestation was diarrhea in the 96 infants. The electronic colonoscopy results indicated that 40% of the infants had multiple small nodules, 26% showed focal erythema and brittle mucous membranes, 25% showed multiple superficial erosion, and 9% showed ulcers with surface exudates. The affected areas included the sigmoid colon (87%), rectum (24%), descending colon (13%), and transverse colon ascending colon and ileocecal junction (8%). The different fuels as pollution sources ...cause distinct particle pollution. This study offers an in-depth investigation of particle pollution and corresponding short-term exposures in port and urban areas. Field measurements were carried out to collect the data including particulate matter and traffic volume. Based on the data, firstly, the Pearson correlation analysis was performed to analyze the relationships between traffic volume and particles. Secondly, the Anderson–Darling test was adopted to identify the “best-fit” distributions on particles. Thirdly, comparisons of particle pollution levels in port and urban areas were analyzed. Finally, the pedestrian respiratory deposition doses of particles were estimated. The results indicate the importance and urgency of reducing air pollution, especially for port cities, and provide policymakers with a foundation for possible measures in the port city.

To investigate the diagnostic value and safety of single-balloon electronic enteroscopy in children with small intestinal bleeding.
Seventy children with clinically suspected small intestinal ...bleeding, including 38 males and 32 females aged 4-13 years, underwent single-balloon enteroscopy under general anesthesia. Twenty-six cases underwent the procedure through the mouth, 32 cases through the anus, and 12 cases through both.
Of the 70 children, 58 (83%) had small bowel disease according to the single-balloon enteroscopy results, including 24 cases of non-specific inflammation, 12 cases of allergic purpura, 8 cases of Crohn's disease, 8 cases of Meckel's diverticulum, and 6 cases of Peutz-Jeghers syndrome.
Single-balloon enteroscopy is a safe, effective means for the diagnosis of small intestinal bleeding among children.
Quantum chemical protocols explaining the crystal structures and the visible light absorption properties of 3,4:9,10-perylene tetracarboxylic acid bisimide (PBI) derivates are proposed. ...Dispersion-corrected density functional theory has provided an intermolecular potential energy of PBI dimers showing several energetically low-lying minima, which corresponds well with the packing of different PBI dyes in the solid state. While the dispersion interaction is found to be crucial for the binding strength, the minimum structures of the PESs are best explained by electrostatic interactions. Furthermore, a method is introduced, which reproduces the photon energies at the absorption maxima of PBI pigments within 0.1 eV. It is based on time-dependent Hartree−Fock (TD-HF) excitation energies calculated for PBI dimers with the next-neighbor arrangement in the pigment and incorporates crystal packing effects. This success provides clear evidence that the electronically excited states, which determine the color of these pigments, have no significant charge-transfer character. The developed protocols can be applied in a routine manner to understand and to predict the properties of such pigments, which are important materials for organic solar cells and (opto-)electronic devices.
