Postoperative delirium (POD) is a common and serious complication after extensive surgery. Understanding the independent and potential modifiable risk factors leading to POD in patients with head and ...neck cancer (HNC) can provide information for future intervention trials aimed at reducing this risk.
To systematically analyze influencing factors of POD in patients with HNC and identify high-risk individuals for delirium.
PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, OVID, and Cochrane Library were searched for publications prior to June 2023. Comparative studies in which POD risk factors were investigated were identified following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to evaluate the study quality. Pooled odds ratios or mean differences for individual risk factors were estimated using the Mantel-Haenszel and inverse-variance methods.
This review included 17 studies with a total of 4188 patients undergoing HNC surgery. The pooled prevalence of POD was 15.44%. Based on pooled analysis, 8 significant risk factors were identified including age older than 70 years, male sex, history of smoking, history of psychiatric disorder, American Society of Anesthesiologists score, albumin level, postoperative insomnia, and fluid intake.
In the present study, 8 factors that correlated with POD were identified: 6 preoperative, 1 intraoperative, and 1 postoperative.
The influencing factors for POD in patients with HNC were identified that can provide a reference for improving the psychological state of the patient population and further development of effective treatment interventions.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to adopt the perspective of congruence to explore how organizational unlearning facilitates knowledge transfer in cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A).
...Design/methodology/approach
Drawing on the congruence theory, this study built a theoretical model and examined it with survey data from 212 firms in China.
Findings
Organizational unlearning has no direct influence on knowledge transfer. In contrast, it promotes knowledge and routine compatibility that facilitate knowledge transfer. Routine and knowledge compatibility have different mechanisms on knowledge transfer. Specifically, the higher routine compatibility, the more effective is knowledge transfer. When knowledge compatibility is at a medium level, the effectiveness of knowledge transfer is optimal.
Practical implications
Firms should regard organizational unlearning as a crucial facilitator to knowledge and routine compatibility that promote knowledge transfer.
Originality/value
This study provides a specific understanding of the relationships between organizational unlearning and knowledge transfer by focusing on knowledge and routine compatibility as the crucial links, and enriches existing literature regarding knowledge transfer.
In this study, the role of E3 ubiquitin ligase GmSNE3 in halosulfuron methyl (HSM) inhibiting soybean nodulation was investigated. GmSNE3 was strongly induced by HSM stress, and the overexpression of ...GmSNE3 significantly reduced the number of soybean nodules. Further investigation found that GmSNE3 could interact with a nodulation signaling pathway 1 protein (GmNSP1a) and GmSNE3 could mediate the degradation of GmNSP1a. Importantly, GmSNE3-mediated degradation of GmNSP1a could be promoted by HSM stress. Moreover, HSM stress and the overexpression of GmSNE3 resulted in a substantial decrease in the expression of the downstream target genes of GmNSP1a. These results revealed that HSM promotes the ubiquitin-mediated degradation of GmNSP1a by inducing GmSNE3, thereby inhibiting the regulatory effect of GmNSP1a on its downstream target genes and ultimately leading to a reduction in nodulation. Our findings will promote a better understanding of the toxic mechanism of herbicides on the symbiotic nodulation between legumes and rhizobia.

In the realm of condensed matter physics and materials science, charge density waves (CDWs) have emerged as a captivating way to modulate correlated electronic phases and electron oscillations in ...quantum materials. However, collectively and efficiently tuning CDW order is a formidable challenge. Herein, we introduced a novel way to modulate the CDW order in 1T-TaS2 via stacking engineering. By introducing shear strain during the electrochemical exfoliation, the thermodynamically stable AA-stacked TaS2 consecutively transform into metastable ABC stacking, resulting in unique 3a × 1a CDW order. By decoupling atom coordinates, we atomically deciphered the 3D subtle structural variations in trilayer samples. As suggested by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the origin of CDWs is presumably due to collective excitations and charge modulation. Therefore, our works shed light on a new avenue to collectively modulate the CDW order via stackingtronics and unveiled novel mechanisms for triggering CDW formation via charge modulation.

The paper experimentally investigates the effects of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) strengthening arrangements on the failure mechanisms ofCFRP-strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) beams ...without stirrups under impact loading, as well as the fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) contribution to shear strength. Five beams were tested under static loads and 10 beams under impact loads. The failure modes and the shear mechanism of CFRP-strengthened RC beams under impact loading were obtained. The failure process can be divided into two stages: the shear failure of the local part of the beams adjacent to the midspan section under impact loading; and the subsequent shear failure of the near-support section under reaction force. The test results showed that the arrangement and amount of CFRP as well as impact energy played an important role in the beam dynamic behavior. The CFRP contribution to shear strength at the first stage was discussed and verified by the experimental shear strength considering the strain rate and stress wave propagation effects. A dynamic failure criterion of RC beams was eventually proposed to assess the failure of FRP-strengthened RC beams under impact loading.
Computational thinking (CT) education has drawn increasing attention from educators and researchers. This study conducted a meta-analysis of 27 empirical studies to examine the effectiveness of ...game-based learning (GBL) for fostering students’ CT. The effects of various factors on the learning process for acquiring CT were also examined. The results showed that (a) conducting GBL can foster students’ CT, and the overall effect was at the upper-middle level (Hedges’ g = .600, 95% CI .465, .735, p < .001). (b) Furthermore, conducting GBL can improve students’ CT concepts (Hedges’ g = .916, 95% CI .410, 1.423, p < .001), CT skills (Hedges’ g = .494, 95% CI .389, .600, p < .001), and CT perspectives (Hedges’ g = .927, 95% CI .039, 1.816, p < .05). (c) Additionally, game mode, teaching context, and participant characteristics have positive effects on CT. Based on the findings, it is suggested that using more unplugged games and video games, designing collaborative game activities, and tailoring approaches according to gender difference and programming experience can effectively promote CT. The results have significance for fostering students’ CT in GBL; it is further suggested that instruction processes be rationally designed.

Drug combination is considered to be an effective approach to improve the efficacy of cancer therapy and chemoprevention. Selenite, a representative of inorganic form of selenium, and butyrate, a ...major short-chain fatty acid, are two well-documented colon cancer dietary chemopreventive agents with distinct molecular mechanisms. We hypothesized that combination of selenite and butyrate might produce improved outcome against colon cancer. This hypothesis was tested using both HCT116 human colon cancer cells and its xenograft mouse model in the present study. The in vitro study showed a synergistically inhibitory effect on HCT116 colon cancer cells but not on NCM460 normal human colon mucosal epithelial cells. Consistent with the in vitro study, results of the xenograft mouse model further demonstrated that combination of selenite and butyrate led to improved efficacy in comparison with each agent alone. Mechanistically, the induction of alanine-serine-cysteine transporter 2 (ASCT2) by selenite repressed its inhibitory effect on colon cancer cells, which was reversed by its co-treatment with butyrate. The findings of the present study denote the likely potential for developing selenite/butyrate combination remedy to combat against colon cancer.
