Background
Acupuncture is used to treat chronic functional constipation (CFC) in China, despite limited evidence. We aim to assess the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture in managing CFC.
Methods
...A multicenter randomized controlled trial was performed involving 684 patients with CFC; the patients were randomly allocated to receive He acupuncture (n = 172), Shu‐mu acupuncture (n = 171), He‐shu‐mu acupuncture (n = 171), or oral administration of mosapride (n = 170). Sixteen sessions of acupuncture were given in the treatment duration of 4 weeks. The primary outcome was the change in spontaneous bowel movements (SBMs) at week 4 (at the end of treatment) compared to baseline. The secondary outcomes included stool consistency (Bristol scale), the degree of straining during defecation, and adverse events.
Key Results
The SBMs increased in all the four groups at week 4, and the magnitude of increase was equivalent in the four groups (He acupuncture, 2.7 95% CI, 2.3‐3.1; Shu‐mu acupuncture, 2.7 95% CI, 2.3‐3.0; He‐shu‐mu acupuncture, 2.2 95% CI, 1.9‐2.5; and mosapride, 2.4 95% CI, 2.0‐2.9; P = .226). However, the change in SBMs at week 8 was significantly smaller in mosapride group (1.4 95% CI, 1.0‐1.8) than the three acupuncture groups (2.4 95% CI, 2.1‐2.7, 2.3 95% CI, 1.9‐2.7, 2.1 95% CI, 1.7‐2.5 in He, Shu‐mu, and He‐shu‐mu group, respectively, P = .005).
Conclusions & Interferences
The three acupuncture treatments were as effective as mosapride in improving stool frequency and stool consistency in CFC, but the magnitude of the treatment effect is unknown due to the lack of sham acupuncture control.
The effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of chronic functional constipation is unknown. Our study result showed that acupuncture treatments are as effective as mosapride in improving stool frequency and stool consistency.

Cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are key stroma cells that play dominant roles in tumor progression. However, the CAFs-derived molecular determinants that regulate colorectal cancer (CRC) ...metastasis and chemoresistance have not been fully characterized.
CAFs and NFs were obtained from fresh CRC and adjacent normal tissues. Exosomes were isolated from conditioned medium and serum of CRC patients using ultracentrifugation method and ExoQuick Exosome Precipitation Solution kit, and characterized by transmission electronic microscopy, nanosight and western blot. MicroRNA microarray was employed to identify differentially expressed miRNAs in exosomes secreted by CAFs or NFs. The internalization of exosomes, transfer of miR-92a-3p was observed by immunofluorescence. Boyden chamber migration and invasion, cell counting kit-8, flow cytometry, plate colony formation, sphere formation assays, tail vein injection and primary colon cancer liver metastasis assays were employed to explore the effect of NFs, CAFs and exosomes secreted by them on epithelial-mesenchymal transition, stemness, metastasis and chemotherapy resistance of CRC. Luciferase report assay, real-time qPCR, western blot, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry staining were employed to explore the regulation of CRC metastasis and chemotherapy resistance by miR-92a-3p, FBXW7 and MOAP1.
CAFs promote the stemness, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), metastasis and chemotherapy resistance of CRC cells. Importantly, CAFs exert their roles by directly transferring exosomes to CRC cells, leading to a significant increase of miR-92a-3p level in CRC cells. Mechanically, increased expression of miR-92a-3p activates Wnt/β-catenin pathway and inhibits mitochondrial apoptosis by directly inhibiting FBXW7 and MOAP1, contributing to cell stemness, EMT, metastasis and 5-FU/L-OHP resistance in CRC. Clinically, miR-92a-3p expression is significantly increased in CRC tissues and negatively correlated with the levels of FBXW7 and MOAP1 in CRC specimens, and high expression of exosomal miR-92a-3p in serum was highly linked with metastasis and chemotherapy resistance in CRC patients.
CAFs secreted exosomes promote metastasis and chemotherapy resistance of CRC. Inhibiting exosomal miR-92a-3p provides an alternative modality for the prediction and treatment of metastasis and chemotherapy resistance in CRC.

Abstract Background The purpose of this study was to compare patient outcomes between immediate breast reconstruction (IBR) after mastectomy and mastectomy alone. Methods We conducted a comprehensive ...literature search of PUBMED, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library. The primary outcomes evaluated in this review were overall survival, disease-free survival and local recurrence. Secondary outcome was the incidence of surgical site infection. All data were analyzed using Review Manager 5.3. Results Thirty-one studies, involving of 139,894 participants were included in this paper. Pooled data demonstrated that women who had IBR after mastectomy were more likely to experience surgical site infection than those treated with mastectomy alone (risk ratios 1.51, 95% CI: 1.22–1.87; p = 0.0001). There were no significant differences in overall survival (hazard ratios 0.92, 95% CI: 0.80–1.06; p = 0.25) and disease-free survival (hazard ratios 0.96, 95% CI: 0.84–1.10; p = 0.54) between IBR after mastectomy and mastectomy alone. No significant difference was found in local recurrence between two groups (risk ratios 0.92, 95% CI: 0.75–1.13; p = 0.41). Conclusions Our study demonstrates that IBR after mastectomy does not affect the overall survival and disease-free survival of breast cancer. Besides, no evidence shows that IBR after mastectomy increases the frequency of local recurrence.

. However, the extent of the energy distribution towards the fainter end was not known. Here we report the detection of 1,652 independent bursts with a peak burst rate of 122 h
, in 59.5 hours spanning 47 days. A peak in the isotropic equivalent energy distribution is found to be approximately 4.8 × 10
erg at 1.25 GHz, below which the detection of bursts is suppressed. The burst energy distribution is bimodal, and well characterized by a combination of a log-normal function and a generalized Cauchy function. The large number of bursts in hour-long spans allows sensitive periodicity searches between 1 ms and 1,000 s. The non-detection of any periodicity or quasi-periodicity poses challenges for models involving a single rotating compact object. The high burst rate also implies that FRBs must be generated with a high radiative efficiency, disfavouring emission mechanisms with large energy requirements or contrived triggering conditions.

Background
Dopamine (DA) is a negative modulator of gut motility. Monoamine oxidase‐B (MAO‐B) is an important metabolic enzyme degrading DA. Rasagiline, an irreversible MAO‐B inhibitor, is used to ...treat Parkinson’s disease because of its neuroprotective effect and increasing central DA. However, it is unclear whether MAO‐B exists in the colon and rasagiline increases colonic DA, thereby affecting colonic motility.
Methods
Immunohistochemistry, western blotting, enzyme activity assay, colonic motility recording, gut transit test, and high‐performance liquid chromatography‐electrochemical detection were employed in this study.
Key Results
Monoamine oxidase‐B was distributed in the colonic muscular layers including neurons and glias of rat and human. When oral treatment of rats with rasagiline for 4 weeks, in vitro colonic motility was significantly reduced, but it was greatly reversed by SCH‐23390, an antagonist of DA D1 receptor. The rasagiline‐treated rats also manifested decreased MAO‐B activity and increased DA content in the colonic muscular layer, but no alterations were detected in the protein expressions of D1 and D2 receptors, and MAO‐A and MAO‐B, as well as in the content of 5‐hydroxytryptamine and noradrenaline. Moreover, acute administration of rasagiline did not affect the colonic motility in vitro and the colonic DA level in rats, although MAO‐B activity was significantly inhibited.
Conclusions & Inferences
Monoamine oxidase‐B is abundant in the colonic muscular layer including myenteric plexus of rat and human. Long‐term administration of rasagiline can increase colonic DA thereby inhibiting colonic motility, suggesting that colonic MAO‐B could be a potential drug target for colonic dysmotility.

The power battery thermal management problem in EV (electric vehicle) and HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) has been widely discussed, and EIS (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) is an effective ...experimental method to test and estimate the status of the battery. Firstly, an electrochemical-based impedance matrix analysis for lithium-ion battery is developed to describe the impedance response of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Then a method, based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurement, has been proposed to estimate the internal temperature of power lithium-ion battery by analyzing the phase shift and magnitude of impedance at different ambient temperatures. Respectively, the SoC (state of charge) and temperature have different effects on the impedance characteristics of battery at various frequency ranges in the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy experimental study. Also the impedance spectrum affected by SoH (state of health) is discussed in the paper preliminary. Therefore, the excitation frequency selected to estimate the inner temperature is in the frequency range which is significantly influenced by temperature without the SoC and SoH. The intrinsic relationship between the phase shift and temperature is established under the chosen excitation frequency. And the magnitude of impedance related to temperature is studied in the paper. In practical applications, through obtaining the phase shift and magnitude of impedance, the inner temperature estimation could be achieved. Then the verification experiments are conduced to validate the estimate method. Finally, an estimate strategy and an on-line estimation system implementation scheme utilizing battery management system are presented to describe the engineering value.

3. The results showed that higher temperature contributed to more hydrogen production, but too high a temperature lowered gas heating value. The LHV of fuel gas decreased with ER. Compared with biomass air gasification, the introduction of steam improved gas quality. However, excessive steam would lower gasification temperature and so degrade fuel gas quality. It was also shown that a smaller particle was more favorable for higher gas LHV and yield.

Context.
We investigate the use of saliency-map analysis to aid in searches for transient signals, such as fast radio bursts and individual pulses from radio pulsars.
Aims.
Our aim is to demonstrate ...that saliency maps provide the means to understand predictions from machine learning algorithms and can be implemented in pipelines used to search for transient events.
Methods.
We implemented a new deep learning methodology to predict whether any segment of the data contains a transient event. The algorithm was trained using real and simulated data sets. We demonstrate that the algorithm is able to identify such events. The output results are visually analysed via the use of saliency maps.
Results.
We find that saliency maps can produce an enhanced image of any transient feature without the need for de-dispersion or removal of radio frequency interference. The maps can be used to understand which features in the image were used in making the machine learning decision and to visualise the transient event. Even though the algorithm reported here was developed to demonstrate saliency-map analysis, we have detected a single burst event, in archival data, with dispersion measure of 41 cm
−3
pc that is not associated with any currently known pulsar.

Background
Treatment of chronic wounds using traditional surgical procedures is challenging because of the low graft take rates. This study investigated the combination approach of split‐thickness ...autografts with harvested skin cell suspension for chronic wound treatment.
Methods
This randomized clinical trial enrolled patients with chronic wounds between March 2012 and December 2013. Patients who were assigned randomly to the active treatment received a split‐thickness autograft combined with harvested skin cell suspension. Control patients received the split‐thickness autograft alone. The primary outcome was the rate of complete wound closure by postoperative day 28. Analysis was by intention to treat. Patients who achieved wound closure were followed up for a minimum of 6 months to evaluate the quality of healing.
Results
A total of 88 patients were included, 44 in each group. More patients achieved complete wound closure in the skin cell group than in the control group (41 versus 34 patients; P = 0·035). Complete wound closure was observed at a median of 14 (95 per cent c.i. 12·0 to 16·0) days in the skin cell group and 20 (15·7 to 24·3) days in the control group (P = 0·001). The skin cell group had significantly fewer complications (4 versus 11 patients; P = 0·047). The autografted sites displayed better physical attributes and a reduced tendency for wound recurrence in the skin cell group.
Conclusion
Complementary split‐thickness autologous skin grafting with autologous skin cells harvested using ReCell® (Avita Medical, Cambridge, UK) technology improved the healing rate of chronic wounds. Registration number: UMIN000011966 (http://www.umin.ac.jp/ctr).

Herein, we report a one-pot approach to produce HMF from aquatic microalgae (
Chlorococcum
sp.) with a yield up to 48.0% under mild reaction conditions (200 °C, 2 h) over the commercial cheap H-ZSM-5 ...catalyst. Conversion of microalgae to HMF involved three steps: (1) degradation of microalgae to carbohydrates; (2) hydrolysis of polysaccharides to glucose and mannose; (3) their isomerization to fructose on Lewis acid sites and its further dehydration to HMF over Brønsted acid sites. Proteins and lipids in microalgal cells play an important role in stabilizing HMF in water. Ball-milling pretreatment or addition of another organic solvent enhanced the productivity of HMF from microalgae. Besides, this cheap H-ZSM-5 catalyst also demonstrated excellent stability, and a slight loss of its activity can be easily recovered by simple calcination treatment.
A high yield of HMF is directly obtained from aquatic microalgae over a commercial acidic zeolite under mild conditions. Experimental results reveal that proteins and lipids in microalgal cells benefit the HMF stability in water.
