Michael E. Serpe, a New Haven resident who previously held positions at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven and the Connecticut Business and Industry Association, started his new post earlier this ...month at the Waterbury-based council. He succeeds Donald A. Gray Jr., who will retire Oct. 7 after 31 years with the organization. Based on Holmes Avenue, the 150-member association represents manufacturers in New Haven, Litchfield, Fairfield and Hartford Counties. The council, which this year marks the 100th anniversary of its founding, provides information and consulting services to member companies, but also lobbies on behalf of its members on legislative issues. Most recently a private consultant, Serpe's background includes work in government relations, public affairs and communications. He served from 1998 to 2002 as vice president for college relations at Albertus Magnus, and from 1985-96 as director of public affairs for CBIA. In his new role, Serpe said, he can draw on his legislative, communications and public affairs experiences.
The region's second-largest increase in property values was in Racine County with 10.2 percent; followed by Waukesha County, 9.3 percent; Washington County, 9.1 percent; Ozaukee County, 8.7 percent; ...Milwaukee County, 8.2 percent; and Walworth County, 8.1 percent, according to the report. Statewide property values rose 8.5 percent last year over 2003 values. Kenosha County continues to reap benefits from the migration of Illinois residents to southeastern Wisconsin's border counties, where new home construction and demand for existing homes are strong, said Michael Serpe, administrative assistant to Kenosha County Executive Allan Kehl. Among the larger communities in the region, Kenosha posted an 8.8 percent increase in property values last year, the report says, with Milwaukee at 8.1 percent; Shorewood, 7.4 percent; Franklin, 11.7 percent; Wauwatosa, 5.6 percent; Mequon, 9.1 percent; Cedarburg, 9.2 percent; Racine, 8.9 percent; Mount Pleasant, 10.6 percent; Lake Geneva, 5.8 percent; West Bend, 8.3 percent; Germantown, 7.5 percent Hartford, 13.9 percent; Waukesha, 8.4 percent; Oconomowoc, 16.8 percent; Brookfield, 8 percent; and Menomonee Falls, 6.4 percent.
The sales and marketing professional by day spends evenings and weekends building his 5-year-old business. It's been known as My Personal Valet, but Kurt Serpe, who owns the company with his wife, ...Laurie, is changing the name to Valet Parking At Your Service. The switch is designed to better reflect the nature of the business and eliminate confusion. Serpe provides valet parking at events such as weddings, private parties, art gallery shows, community fundraisers and grand openings. Personalized valet service is typically found in larger cities and is similar to what's become the norm at upscale hotels, restaurants and country clubs. KRISTEN GOODE, THE GAZETTE - Julie and Don Smith were helped to their cars last week by Kurt Serpe, owner of Valet Parking At Your Service, during the grand opening of Colorado Springs Porsche.
"It's a very, very satisfactory compromise," said Door County Administrator Michael Serpe. "Private work is something we shouldn't be doing in the first place." "It's great to resolve an issue that's ...been burning for years," he said. "If an elephant's in the room and nobody's willing to talk about it, somebody's finally got to say, 'Look, there's the elephant.'" "I think in the end it could clear up what's been, for a long time, a gray area," he said. "I think the budget compromise, given the situation they (the Legislative committee) had, is positive. They found good common ground."
