The automotive industry is one of the main drivers of industrial production and is well known for high-quality criteria. In the past, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) pushed forward the main ...processes of new vehicle production. Today, OEM transfers a great deal of high-level engineering tasks to suppliers. As automotive industries are highly automated robot lines, constituting serial production in millions, the smallest error in a delivered product/component causes the downtime for the whole line. In these situations, it is necessary to validate another supplier of the same component, which can last a very long time. This paper presents a quality management model for incoming components in the automotive industry which can recognize possible risks in the early phase of the component prototype development. The model is successfully applied in a company that produces components for OEM, which will be presented in the second part of the paper.

This paper presents an effective product design and manufacturing process based ontology for manufacturing knowledge reuse. While a number of related efforts exist in the literature, there lacks a ...granular, interconnected product design and manufacturing process based ontology that can lead to greater industry adoption and knowledge reuse. In particular, the proposed ontology leverages an established industry standard to connect product design and manufacturing process knowledge in a logical and effective manner. The resulting effort is a general ontological framework that can be widely employed by the manufacturing industry. Additionally, the feasibility of implementing the ontology enabled knowledge reuse framework is demonstrated through a real-world case study.
In the final assembly stage of military aircraft, there are problems of high control cost caused by the disconnection between quality control and business process and the lack of advanced quality ...planning. To solve these problems, insufficient quality planning and high control costs in the military aircraft final assembly stage,APQP(Advanced Product Quality Planning)application guide suitable for the military aircraft final assembly stage is proposed by improving the APQP guidance material of the IAQG(International Aerospace Quality Group),including theoretical models, core content and key elements, etc. The application effect of the military aircraft assembly APQP in process optimization and management, risk identification and control are verified on the aero-engine installation. The results show that the military aircraft assembly APQP is beneficial to predict and reduce risks, reduce process changes, improve military aircraft quality and delivery efficiency.

The different methods for the generation of hydrogen are well known, as well as their applications, advantages and complications for their use. Every day it is essential to replace fossil fuels, so ...it is necessary to improve and take advantage of the different devices that we already have. The alkaline electrolyser is one of the best options, due to the simplicity of its components and its simple assembling; it is a relatively inexpensive device for the production of hydrogen. In this article, three different alkaline electrolyser stacks are presented, ECH-001 model. The difference between them lies in the fact that the configuration of the electrode changes with the number of drill holes. This has the purpose of optimizing the maximum productivity of the oxyhydrogen gas (OH2G) with respect to input power and the performance with different operation parameters, like the number of serial plates, geometry and the distance between them. The performance curves of parallel and serial arrangements are shown. The performance of a DEKTM diesel engine (monocylinder of 406 cc) with and without OH2G was evaluated, with flows of one, two and three sL min-1. Tests for CO, CO2, HC and NOx emissions were measured using the exhaust gas analyzer and varying the engine speed. The results show that the electrolyser assembly with four holes electrodes achieved the best performance with an OH2G productivity of 2 sL min-1 when using; 7 serial plates at the anode (which is called arrangement 1, 5–10), 3 mm gap and a 5% solution of NaOH. The results also shows a 14% reduction in fuel consumption, 22% reduction in HC, 23% reduction in CO, 7% reduction in CO2 and 15.5% NOx reduction with 2 sL min-1 of OH2G all this for 2500 rpm. The obtained results show a great advantage for the use of dual combustion with the diesel-hydrogen combination.

The article discusses the content of the methodology for assessing the technological state of the machine tool system based on the method of planning experiments for cutting pre-designed and ...manufactured for special precision characteristics of automotive components of product samples. Using the example of an internal landing hole, the finding of diagnostic components of a special characteristic that are the result of the action of preknown technological factors is considered. Their finding is designed for the use of both shop and coordinate measuring instruments. The obtained regression models of diagnostic components make it possible at various stages of the APQP process to determine the intervals of the cutting process parameters that provide a predetermined margin of accuracy of a special characteristic, or to conclude that the accuracy of the machine system is inadequate. The application of the methodology together with statistical methods of quality management allows to ensure the maximum achievable level of stability of special characteristics in cutting operations, starting with the release of the first serial samples of products. The methodology can be used when selecting and evaluating the technological accuracy of newly purchased equipment in the APQP process of preparing the production of a new automotive component, acceptance of existing equipment after modernization or repair, as well as the audit of the technological process by the auditors of the supplier.
Headlights’ development for the automotive industry is gaining a lot of volatility due to frequent changes in features, styling and design, hardware interfaces, and software upgrades required by the ...OEM, supplier, or new trends in regulations. Standard development models based on V-cycle compliant with CMMI are not responding with reactivity on constant changes. The article proposes an approach based on mixed development strategies over the different core domains with Lean, Scrum, Feature-Driven Development, and VDI to satisfy the APQP milestones, with a proposal of a canvas-type model, the rapid delivery of headlights is portrayed. The efficiency and effectiveness of the model are assessed based on the assumed number of changes for new high-end headlights, based on experience and real cases. A delivery baseline LED-based Headlight development—planned versus actual—chart is presented and explained.
Measurement System Analysis (MSA) comprises a set of methods aiming to identify and assess variation of measurement results that can be assigned to a measurement system (gauge, personnel, procedure, ...standard, ambient conditions, etc.). It became a requirement of quality management systems in automotive industry, according to ISO/TS 16949. Moreover, most of automotive suppliers have to meet OEMs requirements specified in APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) and MSA manuals. Many other industries adopted the same approach, expecting their suppliers to perform MSA in compliance with the above guidelines. The basic requirement regarding MSA scope is that it should be carried out for all measuring instruments referred to in Control Plans. Among methods available, gauge R&R seems to be the most popular method of measuring system capability assessment. However, although the assessment has to be performed periodically, none of the above mentioned guidelines suggest any method for MSA planning. The paper describes a few propositions on how the problem can be practically resolved basing on a risk associated with each measurement system. The first proposed method is based on simple risk analysis, which can be easily run together with developing a Control Plan. It uses process capability index (required or achieved) and characteristics impact on product/process function for making a decision on MSA frequency and scope. The variant of the method uses gauge robustness assessment as another risk factor. The other proposition assumes that a process FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) is developed. The method uses performed FMEA to establish priorities for MSA. Basing on the priorities, frequency and scope of MSA can be planned.
Today are used a lot of quality tools, essential for the continuous improvement of the quality of products and processes. The use of quality tools and techniques bring benefits to the growth of the ...industry. The growth of the aerospace industry depends very much on the quality and reliability of the products made. In order to produce high quality products, it is necessary to maintain the highest quality throughout the entire supply chain. With this in mind, the aerospace equipment manufacturers expressly request suppliers to improve product quality by implementing basic aircraft tools - advanced product quality planning (APQP), failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), statistical process control (SPC), measurement system analysis (MSA) and production part approval process (PPAP) or obtaining ISO/AS certification - which in some cases is an entry level requirement. The standard of the quality management system in the aerospace industry, AS9100, involves the use of the basic tools APQP, FMEA, MSA, PPAP and SPC. At the present, it is important to meet the specific requirements of the clients. In this paper, the importance of implementing advanced product quality planning in the aerospace industry will be addressed and argued in the form of a way of improving the quality management. In the conclusion, the own points of view on the subject will be highlighted, and also which are the benefits of the approach of improving the quality management using these quality tools and techniques.
