This paper aims to bring up a discussion on the topic that most 20th-century eminent linguists used to ignore and marginalize as being considered peripheral and not serious and worthy of academic ...research.It is rather interesting that linguists, anthropologists, sociologists, and psychologists were neglecting this issue, sporadically and unsystematically dealing with it, although being aware that swearwords are one of the most common words and phrases in most languages. Thus, the lack of research and analyses goes in favor of the aforementioned statement.Indeed, swearword presents a linguistic polyfunctional phenomenon, and it has just recently started to be taken seriously, discussed, and researched on the world as well as the European linguistic scene. So, this paper contributes to this overall swearing research, as it is being based on a qualitative analysis of the collected examples found in the mass media, that have been chosen according to the censored swearword found in the online article’s headline. Fourteen online portals from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia,Serbia and Montenegro have been taken for the corpus, data monitored from October to December 2019.The main hypothesis is that swearwords, though more common in a conversational functional style, are omnipresent in written, online media, and thus journalistic discourse. This has been supported by the fact that the frequency of uncensored swearwords present in the media is almost the same as the frequency of censored swearwords, while descriptive swearwords happen to be an extremely rare occurrence. Obscene vocabulary in journalistic discourse is a complex linguistic, psychological, sociological, cultural, and ethnological phenomenon, and it can also be suggested that swearwords bear exceptional elasticity and adaptability features.
El uso de digresiones reflexivas no es exclusivo de la literatura, sino que también se da en los relatos periodísticos y es un ejemplo de que la subjetividad del/a narrador/a está presente. En este ...artículo se presenta una parte del análisis de la investigación sobre esta figura discursiva en los textos que componen Balón dividido del escritor y periodista mexicano Juan Villoro. En dichos relatos, el autor introduce sus consideraciones y opiniones sobre lo que narra a partir del uso de digresiones reflexivas de distintos tipos: pregunta, comparación, modalización, discurso ajeno e híbridas.
The use of reflexive digressions is not exclusive to literature, but also occurs in journalistic stories and is an example that the narrator's subjectivity is present. This article presents part of the analysis of an investigation on this discursive figure in the texts that make up Balón Dividido by the Mexican writer and journalist Juan Villoro. In these stories, the author introduces his considerations and opinions about what he narrates from the use of reflexive digressions of different types: question, comparison, modalization, alien discourse and hybrids.
O uso de digressões reflexivas não é exclusivo da literatura, mas também ocorre em histórias jornalísticas e é um exemplo de que a subjetividade do narrador está presente. Este artigo apresenta parte da análise de uma investigação sobre essa figura discursiva nos textos que compõem Balón Dividido do escritor e jornalista mexicano Juan Villoro. Nesses textos, o autor apresenta suas considerações e opiniões sobre o que narra a partir do uso de digressões reflexivas de diferentes tipos: pergunta, comparação, modalização, discurso alheio e híbridos.
Понятие дискурсивной практики как способа социально ориентированной речевой деятельности может быть применено к процессам создания и результатам (речевым произведениям, текстам) отдельной языковой ...личности, осуществляющей свою профессиональную деятельность в коммуникациях разного типа, жанра, адресной направленности и пр. Отдельные тексты такой личности можно считать своего рода дискурсивной практикой (по признакам социальной ориентации, реализации совокупности речевых жанров, проявлений субъектного начала, выраженности/невыраженности адресной направленности, тематической и семантической организации, когнитивной доминанты и пр.). Цель статьи – выявить дискурсивные параметры, связанные с тематическим, когнитивным, коммуникативным воплощением языковой личности автора (филолога), способами передачи информации, организации коммуникации с адресатом в художественно-публицистической речевой деятельности автобиографической направленности. На материале текста мемуарного типа «Автобиография», написанного красноярским филологом доктором педагогических наук В. Я. Булоховым, были показаны способы реализации языковой личности автора на структурном, тематическом, коммуникативном, когнитивном уровнях организации художественно-публицистического дискурса и типы проявления дискурсивной практики на основе применения регулятивов социального и персонального типа, обращающих внимание адресата на вписанность сообщаемой информации в социальной контекст «широкого» или «узкого» типа, взаимодействие хронотопов «там и тогда», «здесь и сейчас», «тогда как прогностическое сейчас». Применение анализа тематической и структурной организации текста, выявление режимов коммуникации, их чередования, особенностей актуализации когнитивного состава с помощью средств передачи информации на семантическом, прагмастилевом уровнях позволило установить ведущие речевые стратегии, маркирующие автобиографическую дискурсивную практику языковой личности, речевой деятельности которой присущи лексическая, синтаксическая, коммуникативная, стилевая вариативность, многообразие пространственно-временных и эгоцентрических компонентов дейксиса и текстообразования.
Proverbs are often used in argumentation to convey an epistemic or deontic point of view. While their argumentative potential has not failed to gain the attention of linguists, much remains to be ...done in terms of analyzing their pragmatic function in single argumentative contexts and languages. With a view to this desideratum, and embracing a contrastive perspective, I pose the question of the argumentative role of proverbs in Italian and French journalistic discourse. In a pragma-dialectical framework, I take the rhetorical perspective to pertain to argumentation as much as the dialectical one and show the potential of proverbs in both spheres. However, I then focus mainly the former perspective, showing how paroemiological argumentation can help mitigate the difference of opinion especially in the case of dissent and facilitate argumentative effectiveness thanks to protagonist-centered and antagonist-oriented strategies involving linguistic polyphony and non-directness.
In this paper we examine the discourse on political corruption, with a focus on accusations of corruption and the self-defence discourse of the accused person. For this purpose, we study the ...discourse of the corruption scandal related with the Greek ex-Defence Minister Akis Tsohatzopoulos in 2011, as presented in articles published in the newspaper I Kathimerini. We specifically discuss how the accused is presented in the newspaper, how the accused presents himself and rebuts accusations and the newspaper’s stance, including the recontextualization of his discourse. By using tools of corpus linguistics in combination with Critical Discourse Analysis notions, our analysis points to the discourse strategies used, the extended application of topoi (namely of burden, responsibility, the scapegoat, and reality/appearance) and the biased treatment of the accused’s discourse, which is not only underrepresented but also distorted and ironically treated, suggesting that traditional Press in the Greek context aligns with political parties and the powerful through an array of linguistic devices.

El artículo analiza los titulares de prensa de la revista Semana, con el fin de desentrañar la ideología promovida por esta con respecto al proceso de paz en los primeros cuatro meses del mandato de ...Iván Duque. Para ello, se identificó la forma como se presentaron y nombraron los diferentes actores del posconflicto, se analizaron las estrategias discursivas usadas en la revista, además del lenguaje retórico y sus implicaciones discursivas. El paradigma que guía el estudio es el sociocrítico con enfoque cualitativo. El tipo de investigación es el análisis crítico del discurso. El método de análisis e interpretación considera tres etapas: exploratoria del corpus, exploratoria descriptiva y exploratoria analítica. Se tomó un subcorpus de 23 titulares. Se concluye que en su discurso periodístico la revista crea una estructura ideológica sobre las creencias, las actitudes y los valores de diferentes actores, instaurando grupos de opinión a favor del proceso de paz y en contra de las posturas y decisionesdel presidente que perjudican el proceso.

This study seeks to understand "listening" as a practice and norm of journalism in the context of an eruption of journalistic discourse about listening surrounding the 2016 US election. An ...examination of US journalists' own discourse about listening pointed to an understanding of the need to listen more, better, and to a more diverse set of voices. The widespread criticism of journalism's performance frequently pointed to failures of listening as a root cause of the more general failure to adequately cover the campaign. Thus, listening involved a set of skills, but was also sometimes construed as a moral obligation. Overall, however, the discourse showed an anemic understanding of listening, often pointing to the public's inability to listen to journalists.

Taking the FIFA World Cup in Qatar as a point of departure, this article analyses the changing role of national associations of sports journalists in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Introducing the ...concept of meta-journalistic discourse and well-established media system theories, it is argued that Nordic sports journalism’s negotiations of professional practices and standards are shaped by a particular media systemic context with distinct Nordic welfare state-oriented features. One such feature is a tradition of using collective, organized social groups, like democratically based voluntary associations, as instruments for social change. The empirical study explores this through a qualitative thematic analysis of the changing structures, identities, and practices of the national associations of sports journalists across the three countries. This illustrates how the organizations in particular during the last two decades have started very similar processes of transformation away from being mainly social clubs. The associations have used their collective frameworks and bargaining power to ensure independent journalists’ access to sports organizations and athletes, and they have engaged in negotiations of what sports journalism is and what constitutes sports journalism in a sports media landscape shaped by strong combined forces of digitization and politicization.

El presente artículo estudia el papel de la prensa popular sensacionalista durante la campaña para la segunda vuelta elec-toral llevada a cabo en el Perú entre abril y junio de 2021. Para ello, se analiza del discurso periodístico en las portadas de los diarios Trome y Ojo, que son los dos diarios de corte popular del conglomera-do mediático más grande del país, el Gru-po El Comercio. El estudio identifica en el discurso de las portadas de dichos perió-dicos —cuyas agendas tradicionalmente están abocadas a noticias policiales, del espectáculo y del deporte— la presencia de lo que Noam Chomsky y Edward S. Herman (1988/1995) denominan la ideo-logía anticomunista. A través de ella, se buscó asociar al candidato Pedro Castillo con el «comunismo» o el «chavismo», y presentarlo como el peor de los males. El discurso de estos diarios populares estuvo orientado a relacionar su propia idea de comunismo con el terrorismo, la violencia y el odio; y, al mismo tiempo, a contraponerlo con las ideas de democra-cia, paz y libertad. Estamos viviendo un ciclo político en el que la ultraderecha en Europa está resurgiendo de forma innegable e imparable. Los nuevos partidos de derecha radical populista tienen un fuerte perfil ...xenófobo que extrae rédito de la crisis de los refugiados. Este estudio trata de averiguar, dentro de la multiplicidad de factores que contribuyen al comportamiento político, cuál es el papel de la prensa en este auge xenófobo-populista. Mediante técnicas cualitativas y cuantitativas, fundamentadas en el análisis del discurso y la estadística descriptiva, se pretende esclarecer la relación entre la crisis de los refugiados, la prensa, y la ultraderecha en tres casos comparados, a saber, España, Francia e Italia. Mediante un uso simbiótico de campos semánticos, regresiones y análisis cuantitativo, se logra confirmar la mayoría de hipótesis sobre los efectos del encuadre que utiliza la prensa sobre el comportamiento político.
